Looks like we're low tier. Average party level of 6.16667

Okay guys, I am very new to Starfinder so please help me a bit. I assume I can make a computer check to take over the science officer roll?
Yep! Generally if you're hopping in a role, you're also choosing one of the options that role can do. So for a Science Officer (who do use Computers for their checks) you could try each turn to either attempt to Scan an opposing ship (which could give useful info about their shields, speed, weapons, and other details that'll help us make tactical decisions), Balance our own shields (moving them from one side of the ship into another that might be more exposed or damaged), or Target a specific enemy ship's system (making our attacks crit more easily, and deal more crit effects if we do). At your/most of our levles (6th+), most of the different starship roles also have an additional action that you can attempt, though these cost a Resolve Point to try.
You can change up each action you take every round, and even change what role you are from turn-to-turn (i.e. you can be a Science Officer one round, then decide to give commands as a Captain in the next). Any given turn, only one person can Pilot and one Captain, but the other roles can have multiple people trying different things simultaneously.
Feel free to speak up or ask if you have any more questions. Always glad to explain and break things down! (and Starship Combat can at times seem pretty complicated before you get the hang of it).

Question for the group: Krara slotted the Heavy Solar Cannon boon, which allows her to replace one of a starship's heavy wepaons with a Heavy Solar Cannon (medium range, 3d8 damage, +1d8 for each consecutive round it hits the same target).
Now with the Drake, the only Heavy weapons are the forward Particle Beam (which is better), and the Torpedo Launcher in the turret. The Lunacher is a better and more damagin weapon, but also only has 5 shots before it's out of ammo, and we lose our most flexble wepaon (turret).
Do we want to sub the Solar Cannon (a bit less damage, but more consistent over an extended combat) in on the turret, or keep the Torpedo Launcher (great if we can take them out quick, bad in a longer engagement)?
Desha Doash |
I agree. As much as the higher damage output is useful, that only works if we have shots to use. Plus, if we can get some consecutive rounds of hits going, the bonus damage might end up making up the difference in damage anyway.

So am I :)

I'm also participating in a game, but it's just the evening game tonight (7pm GMT-5). See you all on Monday and happy gaming!
Navasi - Iconic Envoy |
Guys, Navasi has watch out. If you want to use it then please just post that yourself and assume Navasi spent the reaction so you can spend the reaction.
Watch Out (Ex) When a foe makes a ranged attack against an ally within 60 feet of Navasi, she can warn the ally as a reaction. The ally can use a reaction to gain a +4 bonus to AC against that single attack and then falls prone.
Navasi - Iconic Envoy |
GM, if Navasi should ever be adjacenct to an enemy and shot at can you roll d20+14+d6 Bluff so we don’t have to retcon. Navasi uses:
Unfriendly Fire:
When a foe misses Navasi with a ranged attack and she is adjacent to a different target, she can attempt a Bluff check (DC = either 10 + her attacker’s total Sense Motive skill bonus or 15 + 1-1/2 × the attacker’s CR, whichever is greater) as a reaction to force the attacker to reroll the attack against the adjacent target. This feat can’t be used on any creature that has seen her use it previously.

So we're piloting the Drake:
Medium transport
Speed 8; Maneuverability average (turn 2); Drift 1
AC 15; TL 14
HP 100; DT —; CT 17
Shields medium 160 (forward 40, port 40, starboard 40, aft 40)
Attack (Forward) particle beam (8d6), coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Port) coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Aft) coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Turret) Heavy Solar Cannon (3d8)
Power Core Pulse Blue (200 PCU); Drift Engine Signal Basic;
Systems basic medium-range sensors, crew quarters (good), mk 2 trinode computer, mk 5 armor, mk 5 defenses
Modifiers +2 to any three checks per round, +2 Computers
---
That's including the basic mods we already had and the HP/Shield mods the Brakim gave us. We also, if I understand, can add a Light Plasma Cannon to any arc but the fore (since it already has two guns), can pick a weapon to double the damage die of, and can pick a weapon to add a base 4 damage too (which could be the same or different weapons).
IF so, I would propose we add the extra weapon to the turret (flexibility). As for the damage boosts, we could either double the turret damage dice and empower it making it a (6d8+4) weapon (since its the one that should be able to always fire), or could go all-in on the particle beam (16d6+4), to just try and devastate shields when we can get them in the forward arc.
Any thoughts? (And if I am misunderstanding our options GM, let me know).
'Draken' |
Thanks for that Krara ^^ - Draken will stick with Piloting which will increase our AC/TL by 7 and Speed by 1.
Put the Light Plasma Cannon on the Turret it has a range of 5 hexes and does 2d12 damage so flexibility would be best.
I think we should go for the particle beam - but I'm not a gunner but i just love the idea of rolling 16 dice for damage :P.
Merisiel DSG |
My vote is for particle beam Preferring second gunner duty (I have no ranks in piloting or computers as befits a pathfinder (jack of all trades gets me by)
Merisiel DSG |
So we're piloting the Drake:
Medium transport
Speed 8; Maneuverability average (turn 2); Drift 1
AC 15; TL 14
HP 100; DT —; CT 17
Shields medium 160 (forward 40, port 40, starboard 40, aft 40)
Attack (Forward) particle beam (16d6), coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Port) coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Aft) coilgun (4d4)
Attack (Turret) Heavy Solar Cannon (3d8+4) Light Plasma cannon (2d12)
Power Core Pulse Blue (200 PCU); Drift Engine Signal Basic;
Systems basic medium-range sensors, crew quarters (good), mk 2 trinode computer, mk 5 armor, mk 5 defenses
Modifiers +2 to any three checks per round, +2 Computers
Ok Thinking of hedging the bets and putting the plus 4 on the main turret weapon and double dice on the particle beam We should confirm our choices before making that piloting check
Krara |
That works for me.
I would also propose of the three 'floating' +2 checks we get every round, the Pilot use one for initiative every round (since one of our facings is way better than the others), and the other two used by the two best gunners that turn? That work for people?
Navasi - Iconic Envoy |
I am super sorry but I unfortunately have to drop out of this game.
I have a flu currently, work is crazy and I have to prioritize.
I am dropping as I know that I cannot participate properly here. Really sorry!
Thanks a lot GM and sorry for any inconvenience caused!
Desha Doash |
Sorry to lose you! Feel better soon!
phaeton_nz |
Sorry to hear that .... I think you've done enough to be eligible for a Chronicle if you want it.
'Draken' |
get well soon!
'Draken' |
Sorry all, I changed Internet provider and due to Covid stuff apparently my new provider had a delay setting up which turned it off for a week.
'Draken' |
Sorry just noticed i missed a ‘not’. Meant to say ‘not flatfooted and image popped’
Desha Doash |
Hey GM, when you say Merisiel can reattempt the checks does that mean anyone should be able to make two checks per 10 minute period? And if that’s the case, could Desha attempt another check since that second roll I made was a GM reroll?
phaeton_nz |
No .. according to my track - I believe Merisiel made her check in the second ten minute zone mark whereas Desha was at the third zone. Hence Merisiel gets another roll in the third zone.
Desha Doash |
Got it! Thanks for the clarification!
Desha Doash |
Hey folks! My wife is going into labor with our first child so I’m probably going to be afk for a couple days at least. Please feel free to bot me. Botting instructions should be up in my profile if there’s any excitement to get through.
phaeton_nz |
Congrats - hope it goes well - we're at the end anyway so all I'm going to need are dayjob rolls. Everyone may as well roll those now if you haven't already an I'll get the Chronicles out.
Thanks for playing.
'Draken' |
Congratulations Desha ^^. And big thanks to Phaeton and players for an ace scenario!
Desha Doash |
Thanks all! And thanks for a great game!
