This is the discussion thread.
Please check in and introduce yourselves to each other.
Roga is new in Torch.
Dilana lives in Torch.
As do Raktar & Figgy.
Jeremiah and Tybalt have been in Torch for a couple of years.
So most of you will know each other, at least slightly or by sight.

Jeremiah Johnston |

Well, glad to see Tybalt and I made the cut.

Tybalt Kosgrove |

Tybalt here. Tis a bittersweet moment, considering one friend of mine made it and another was left out... but I am excited to try this out, considering I've only ever played and ran games on Roll20 and Skype. Despite a year or two of experience (we've completed all 6 books of Hell's Rebels, 2 of Hell's Vengeance, 3 of Wrath of the Righteous, and I just got them through the first book of Skulls and Shackles), I've only had one group who've played pretty loosely with some of the rules (few worries about encumbrance, no random encounters, etc.) so if this is any different, it ought to be a decent and challenging change of pace.

GM_DBH |

I tend to err on the side of player enjoyment rather than the rules. Munchkins and cheating no, but trying new things and taking a chance will always get a look from me.
That said, while I've been roleplaying for 30 years I'm new to PBP, I'm running a Skull and shackles PBP now, but I'm always learning. So feel free to offer suggestions or advice.

This is gonna be a first PBP for me. As you could probably guess by our co-op'd backstory, Tybalt's owner and I are friends. (I run the Hell's Vengeance he mentioned and play(ed) in the others). Gotta say I'm looking forward to playing through this and doing it as a gunslinger. I'll try not to be a total murderhobo, play smart, and get along with the group.

GM_DBH |

I've played (live) most of the AP's. Iron gods is the one where the players changed the most from what they went in as to what they finished up being.
It contains a lot of good, fantasy roleplay and encounters, while throwing new equipment, skills and critters at you. Adjusting your character to take advantage of the new options is always fun.

Raktar Garnok |

Raktar checking in. This is my sixth PbP, but my first time with science fantasy. I was initially not a fan of Iron Gods or Numeria, but I've been persuaded to give it a go and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope Raktar doesn't let people down, he's my first time with an oracle.

GM_DBH |

I've only played an Oracle once, ironically that was in Skull & Shackles. That was a strapping Uflen lad with 2 levels of Barbarian and the rest Oracle of life. He had to leave the Linnorm kings because he thought being an Oracle of life meant creating it with as many willing women as possible. :)
What I discovered as I grew more familiar with the Oracle class is that planning your build, especially the Relevations you take is the key. Some relevations suit the more martial, others the more magic. So you can build your Oracle to fill many different roles.

Raktar Garnok |

Metal kind of lends itself towards more martial, but I can't afford to let my spellcasting slide so I'm aiming towards a second line melee approach. Bit of buffing, bit of healing, bit of smacking things with a big hammer.

Dilana Hemlock |

Checking in as well folks.
I have become pretty PbP active and am loving it. I do not have much time for IRL gaming at this point, the RotRL I am GMing gets together once ever two months at most, so PbP has been a god send.
I have never been able to play a witch but I love the class and cannot wait to see how she blends into a world that suddenly has crazy technology.

Roga, savage technologist |

Checking in and glad to be here.
I was lucky enough to have the GM save me a spot. I'm already playing in his S&S game.
I am also playing in five other PBPs and GM three games so needless to say this is my gaming outlet.
I've been playing RPGs since the 80s, engineer by trade, father and husband by vocation.
Looking forward to exploring science fantasy with you all.

Figgy Greasefitter |

Checking in, This is another PbP for me, I am loving the idea of PbP because it allows me to play more often and get a use out of the money I have dropped on Paizo stuff.
I have RPG'd since the early 00's, looking forward to this, I own the first 2 books I think but have never cracked them open.

Roga, savage technologist |

So Roga is new to Torch and was supposed to make contact and learn from the craftsmen that lived in Torch.
I don't want him to just come in the day the adventure starts.
How about he's been there for a couple of weeks doing odds and ends, maybe using his strength to help the local smithys go up and down the hill trying to become an apprentice?
How long has the Torch been out?
Could he have come in contact with any of the PCs?

GM_DBH |

If Roga was doing work at, and hanging around the smithy's then he would have easily encountered Raktar. Who is very noticable and hard to forget.
If he needed footwear he would have encountered Dilana. Torch is small enough for Roga to have met most of the party, if only by to recognize them by sight.

Dilana Hemlock |

I am assuming this is round 1 of combat so move distance is an issue? If not I would have moved in further.

Jeremiah Johnston |

For some reason, I can't see any of the posts in the gameplay thread and neither can my bro. Is this happening just to us?

Dilana Hemlock |

Board was glitched. All better now.

Roga, savage technologist |

You guys must all post while I sleep, I am EST time
I'm EST but I guess just get up earlier than you do. :)
Just curious, what is your little clockwork friend? A class ability? A familiar? Or just RPing?

Dilana Hemlock |

EST here. I post between 6am and 10pm (9 month old gets me up early).

Raktar Garnok |

I'm on GMT. Normally post in the morning if I'm at work, check at various times during the day if not.

Figgy Greasefitter |

I get up at 0600 and post about 0900 once I am done my morning Med Pass, I am a Nurse at a Long Term Care facility.
He is a class ability of the Tinkerer archetype for the Alchemist. At later levels I will be able to add more to him. I need to read more about him again though

Neat. I had no idea that even existed. Pathfinder has so many things that sometimes it's overwhelming.
Sometimes, I wish for a simpler RPG setting like Midnight with only 6 classes but oozing with RP goodness. :)

As I've heard from a comparison, if you were to compare Pathfinder to a car sales company, they hand you the parts and say 'Build your car.' If you're clever enough, you can walk out with a tank or a hover car.

Figgy Greasefitter |

I own the core books for Numenera, The Strange and The Cypher System all by Moonte Cook, never played but the system is 90% RP and 10% combat. 3 classes in each of the books, all similar

I love that game, even tried to GM a Numenera game but I had to close it down.
That was a big blow to my GMing ego because I went through something like 12 players and only two remained in the end. I can't GM a game with only two players. :)

Roga, savage technologist |

I'm waiting for Dilana to tell me I'm not poisoned! :)
Also, I'm down to 8/15 hit points and it's usually not a good idea to have one of your front-liners walk around injured...

Tybalt Kosgrove |

I'd use my CLW extract on you, but I can't use my 'spells' to help others until I pick up the discovery at level 3. =(

Jeremiah Johnston |

Raktar has CLW. He can help I think.

Dilana Hemlock |

Sorry I was slow on that. Posting quickly before Easter Egg Hunt with the family. You should have the info you need now.

Raktar Garnok |

Sorry, you went to Dilana first and I didn't want to butt in.
I'm happy to help with a bit of healing, but I'm not flush with spell slots at this point. If people need a CLW, let me know. The potions will help for now, but we should probably try and find a wand ASAP.

Jeremiah Johnston |

Wands are never a bad thing. XD

Figgy Greasefitter |

how are you doing the Technologist feat? Can we just take it or are you going to be selective or give it out at some point?

GM_DBH |

Take it when you want it. It's not like there isn't enough tech stuff around to play with. :)

GM_DBH |

Iron gods is an interesting AP for character development. When I ran it for my live group no ones character ended up where they thought they would.
The Rogue/Ranger/Gunslinger was originally going to just be a few levels of Rogue, the rest Ranger, and built as a robot slayer. She ended up being more machine than human, and reprogramming robots to work for her.
The Cleric of Brigh ended up with maximum ranks in Heal and Knowledge(Engineering), and had taken all the Craft Tech feats. He became the Cyber surgeon to the group.
The Technologist feat is very good to take early though, if you do end up choosing to go along the tech path it's the first step, with a lot of directions you can head to.
And a broad hint. You don't have to be a Wizard to take the Technomancer prestige class. :)

Roga, savage technologist |

Yeah, I'm taking a closer look at the barbarian class and it doesn't have a lot of options as you go up in levels. It seems to be rage/hit and rinse/repeat. The rage powers aren't that interesting either. Not too many options. And I like options.
I'll probably take a few levels in a spell-less ranger as Roga goes up in levels.
We'll see. :)

Tybalt Kosgrove |

I just built Figgy up to 12th and took all the Tech feats and the pharmaceuticals one as well instead of Implants. I didn't take the build robot feat
I was actually planning on crafting pharmaceuticals and cybernetics myself down the line.

Jeremiah Johnston |

I may retrain to an archetype with Tech items, but otherwise, I have no solid plans whatsoever.

Raktar Garnok |

I haven't really got any plans either, except take lots of levels in oracle and try to obtain a suit of mithril full plate!

Jeremiah Johnston |

Mithril Full Plate is best full plate. XD

And with the right revelations I can move at 40ft in it, and cut down ACP and max dex by up to 3. So really that's my main goal - move quickly in shiny armour and hit stuff with a big hammer while casting spells. It's not a particularly advanced goal, or very technological, but that's what I've got.

If you want to do that I can go Craft Robot instead, since I will be able to craft other Alchemy stuff regardless. No Poisons though but I get the feeling this game would be hard to poison someone.

Probably. Last I checked, robots can't be poisoned easily. And in my own case, poison doesn't seem like something a good character would use too often.
