It wasn't until Stella dodged the second attack from the cultist that she realized that Kokam had just fallen from the assault of the other two enemies. Gathering energy from her starstone, she shouted "Out of the way!" to the enemy in front of her as a shining bolt of energy shot from her necklace and seemed to curve in the air towards the cultist nearest Kokam's body. She then spoke a few quick words and sent a small amount of healing her way to hopefully get her back on her feet.

The magical balls smashed into Kokam's face...and all she could taste was the metallic taste of her own blood.
The blackness of her stupor was interuppted by the smell of flowers and grass, Ah, Stella....thank you she thought as her friend's healing magic brought out of the darkness.
Blinking, Kokam stood , getting her bearings just as a great ball of fire engulfed her friends and the cultists. Holding an arm up to shield her bruised face, Kokam saw her friends still stood...but Damon had fallen.
Her first instinct was to run to his side, but she hear the tiefling's depraved laughter, and so spun around and sprinted at the crazed spellcaster!

With a Dexterity save bonus of +0 and an incoming fireball, Damon would pull out all the stops -- use inspiration for advantage on the save and bardic inspiration as well if there is any doubt about making the save. Bless looks like it gave him a +4 on the save too...
Would be the same for lightning bolt or any other highly damaging spell like that requiring a Dex save. I would also say for Damon any death effects or such he would want to cash in all his bonuses.

Yes, though he wouldn’t necessarily know ahead of time if an effect would do that. I would also including death effects and, after some consideration, effects that would force him to attack his allies (compulsions, etc).

Stella opened her eyes surprised to still be standing after the ball fire materialized, only realizing afterwards that the dragon's magic had saved her once again. Seeing the charred remains of the cultists and her party struggling to recover, particularly Damon who appeared to take the worst of the blast, Stella grabbed her necklace and in a flash of light, sparkled with the energy of the cosmos. Then reaching her hands forward, she she sent some healing magic towards those closest to the mage who needed it most.

Regarding contingencies, I think Stella would use inspiration if an attack like that would get her below 25% health or do more than 50% in one turn. Also unless it would knock her out completely, I don't think she would use Lucky if she only had 1 use left for the day
Also Also, with the optional rules implemented by the release of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, a couple quick questions:
-Can we potentially use some of the optional rules for our characters? (In Stella's case, it would be for the expanded druid spell list from the Player's Handbook)
-With the Circle of Stars subclass becoming official, should I use the published version instead? (It looks like one subclass feature is changed but otherwise it's mostly similar to the UA version)
| Fabian Benavente |
OOC: Using Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is fine, encouraged even. I think the site I look at for rules (5eTools) already has the new stuff.
Everyone should do me a favor and write something on their PC sheet with regards to contingencies such that I can check to see how you want me to handle these things when they come up again.

The red light faded for a second time and Damon struggled to his feet slowly, looking around in a daze trying to understand what just happened, saying "What...is he dead?"

Stella gasped helplessly as she watched the tiefling engulf her friends in another inferno. Before she could react, she thankfully saw a ghostly tankard ram into the tiefling's head; sprawling the mage down on the ground permanently. Kokam scowled at her failure to lay a hand on the treacherous sorcerer, but squared up, gathering herself for another attack when a loud noise overcame her and darkness once again embraced her....
As she fell, a memory came to her; as a child, the hide tent above her snapping in the powerful winds, thunder pounding the very air , clutching her mother's arm.....then a bright summers day, rolling down a grassy hill with her brothers, her nose filled with the smell of earth and grass...
Kokam sat up , sighing as Stella's healing magic once again revived her. Looking about, she saw all of her friends, standing...including Damon , and sighed once more.
Holding her head, still sore from the thunder that had knocked her down, "I hate sorcerers...." she said simply as she got to one knee, then stood to assist the others.

"Agreed," replied Damon to Kokam, then he added to the othes,"Thank you, friends, for succeeding where I failed," upset at himself for being unable to reach the sorcerer himself. Taking inventory of the situation, Damon looked around the room and the belongings of the dead for anything useful, then settled in to bandage his wounds and try to recover somewhat from his ordeal.

Stella sat at the base of the stairs: sore, tired and frustrated at the seemingly superior ability of their enemy. After a little while though, she managed to cheer herself up at the thought that they were all still alive and in one piece. Standing, she commented to the others rather cheerfully, "I don't particularly enjoy them either but having all that power can't be that great if it doesn't actually help you stay alive!" She then walked around the space searching for any useful information or items.

Still rubbing her head, Kokam slid the bracers off of the tiefling's arms, wondering aloud, "Now where did he find these...." marveling at the feel of the dragon scales.
A bit later, she looked around the demonic room, "Should we destroy all this? So no others can use it?"

Methodically stripping arms and armor from the cultists, Damon said, ”Defender’s Heart can use all the supplies they can get—unless something here is useful for us directly.” Smiling as he saw Kokam find some bracers that may be useful for her, Damon quickly frowned as he noticed the demonic shrine in the next room, though the large chest gave him hope of further supplies that might be useful.
Actions 2:
Seeing the noxious vapor rise from the Minotaur head in the adjacent room, Damon said, ”Wait—don’t go in there yet. A foul presence lurks there.” Activating his Divine Sense, Damon tried to understand the source of the issue and perhaps think of a way to nullify the spewing vapor—from simply plugging up the Minotaur head’s orifices, to destroying it outright.

Turning to Stella, Damon said, ”The mask of the Minotaur is a relic of Baphomet, and it was spewing a supernatural poison into the air. Once we dismantle the shrine to the evil demon god, it will become nonfunctional.”
Pulling down the mask and putting it into a bag with whatever else might be of value from the shrine (that could be repurposed or scavenged for its raw materials), Damon nodded with satisfaction and replied to Hallvardr, ”We are clear for now—the power of the unholy shrine is broken, and we should be able to rest on this floor.”
