After looking again at his environmental protection from his armor, Eselar jumps out of ‘Bumpy’, sword in hand and heavy canon in two others.
He looks around to assess that no threat is visible and then tells his comrades, through the com, to follow him.

He starts moving toward the airlock door.

Moxie steps out of the vehicle and draws her weapons. In one hand she wields her thunderstrike pistol, in the other hand she wields a stainless steel baton.

Moxie looks over the door for any tell-tell signs of tampering or recent modification.

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

Taking a careful look at the airlock Moxie, Bugface, and Eselar find the entryway to be well-sealed. No indication of tampering or heavy scarring mar the door. The electronic keypad that once locked the door seems to have lost power some time ago, and it takes just a few strong turns of the manual opening wheel to have the 10-foot wide door swing open to reveal the Aresenal beyond.

In front of you you see a lobby. A wide reception desk dominates the space, its surface embedded with cracked and dusty vidscreens. Dim red emergency lights glow faintly along the walls and from the ceiling 15-feet above the room's floor. They clearly illuminate several maggot husks, each over a foot long, covering the scratched metal floor.

Of course your eyes are more immediately drawn to the thing crouching behind the reception desk - a gigantic red beetle-like creature whoseporous exoskeleton is crawling with tiny maggots. As the airlock opens, is squeals at you, causing the maggots to wriggle frenzily on its back...

Eselar rushes forwards to the large creature. He doesn't recognize it as anything unnatural Life Science to ID. It's not undead or extraplanar and from the denting his sword makes in its carapace is as vulnerable to the solarion's strikes as any.

Lucky Sevens' hit also scorches the creature, while its drone fire a line of acid up and beside the airlock entryway. In response, all of you see pair of tiny, vaguely wasp-like creatures fly down and towards the drone, their claws scratching against the drone's thick metal plating.

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

You recognize the large creature as an apari - a 'living hive' Vermin whose exoskeleton is composed of millions of tiny grey maggots that are extremely mutable. The Apari's maggots can repair, replace, and adapt themselves to constantly reconfigure its carapace, making it immune to critical hits. It can also split part of itself to spawn more dangerous constituents - this process weakens the central Apari, but those constituent could later be reabsorbed into the hive if needed.

Brock and Bugface move to the desk's computers to see what can be found, while Eselar gives the room a cautious scan. Maggot husks crunch under your feet as you walk, the floor covered in dried and spent vermin. They are especially thick in the room's south-western corners, where piles of rotting plants and a carcass sit. The kasatha can't make out exactly what the animal was, but it's been largely consumed.

There are also two thick security doors on either side of the room, with a touch panel next to each. Underneath the desk, he also notices a cabinet, with a sentinel staff, darksight goggles, and a tactical cluster launcher (loaded with four stickybomb grenades II, two ash grenades II, and two riot grenades III) within.

Poring over the computers installed into the reception desk, the hackers find the system to be mostly wrecked. The damage to the desk seems to have corrupted the information within, though you are able to extract a memo that seems to have been sent by the security team of the compound:

“PRIORITY NOTICE. Barachius squadron escalating access requests. Those pixel wings must think they run the place. Monitor and report all activity to security.”

Brock points with the staff in his hands to the "north" door. "Might as well head that way. One of you guys want to check to make sure it isn't trapped?" He turns toward Bugface. "Hear what?"

Eselar lays a hand on the panel, and the steel door slides up into the ceiling to reveal a small rectangular room. Inactive cameras and scanners cover the walls and ceiling, and single control console sits near a vidscreen next to both the door the kasatha stands by and another door at the other end. Unfortunately, glancing at the camera and surveillance equipment shows that the electronics’ circuitry is hopelessly corrupted.

Moxie scans the console room for danger and listens for any more noises coming from inside the room.

Brock taps the side of his helmet. "Hmm, nope, don't hear anything." He glances around the room as he moves to stand near the next door.

Moxie and Eselar don’t notice any clear threat in the chamber as you move through it. Based on the equipment here your best guess is that this was once some sort of surveillance and scanning room or checkpoint. The nature of its current state is unclear however.

The same is not true of the space beyond. At Brock’s touch the far door slides upwards to show a dusty room lined with computer terminals along most of the walls. Their vidscreens switch rapidly back and forth from blank screens, fritzes of static, and a series of error codes. Beneath the computer consoles sit a series of cabinets designed to house data drives, but they now stand in disarray as the drives have been ripped out. Frayed wires dangle and occasionally spark which rows and rows of data banks once stood.

Brock frowns, peering into the room. "Looks like someone's looted the place ..."

Eselar looks around for traps or hidden things in this new room.

He then asks to his more knowledgeable comrades do you know what happened here? Is there some logic in the way this place was tripped of any data?

Once the place have been searched, and his comrades have been able to take the time needed to make their conclusions, he opens the door in front of him.

A closer look and the cabinets from which the databanks were removed shows that the drives seem to mostly have been extracted with precision – albeit in a seemingly hurried fashion. The dangling wires and glitching vidscreens aside, no stray parts or broken circuit boards have been left behind. Whoever or whatever ripped out the processors took them to somewhere else.

Eselar’s opening of the next door unveils an L-shaped room with a massive metal hatch in the floor dominating its northwest corner. The rest of the space is crowded with computer terminals – all of them powered off. As the door slides up however, a figure standing in the new chamber calls out to you in anger as it raises a gleaming rifle at you!
