So, you control the Abyss?:

OK, this round you have control of the Abyss. These are the potential effects you can achieve. Valrar, let me know what you want to do, feel free to be creative.

Quake: Each creature standing in a 20-foot radius must attempt a DC 20 Reflex save or fall prone. Fissures open in the earth, and every creature on the ground has a 25% chance to fall into one (Reflex DC 20 avoids). The fissures are 40 feet deep. At the end of the round, all fissures grind shut. Treat all trapped creatures as if they were in the bury zone of an avalanche, trapped without air (Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook 429). In Subtier 14–15, increase the DC of the Reflex save by 2.

Meteor Strike: Two meteors strike the battlefield, as per the
spell meteor swarm.

Acid Bubble: An Abyssal bubble bursts, spraying acid on all
creatures within a 20-foot radius. This deals 10d6 points of acid damage (Reflex DC 21 half ). In Subtier 14–15, the damage increases to 13d6, and the saving throw DC increases to 23.

Abyssal Minions: The dirt of the Abyss squirms with life, as
a 20-foot-radius spread of grasping claws springs from the ground. This functions like a black tentacles spell (CL 15th, or CL 17th in Subtier 14–15).

Other: The PCs could potentially create other effects, such as altering terrain features or even creating crude structures from thin air. Allow them some leeway in how they decide to shape the Abyss, especially if it creates fun or cinematic effects.

So you drank the blood of a Demon Lord:

Abyssal Attunement: You no longer take penalties on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma based skill checks based on the difference between the Abyss’s alignment and your own. Additionally, you are particularly adept at manipulating the raw substance of the Abyss, an ability that will have mechanical benefits in your encounter with Koth’Vaul.

Initiative: You gain a +2 bonus on initiative checks.
Epic Strikes: Your attacks with natural and manufactured weapons bypass DR/epic.
Mythic Power: You gain two uses of mythic power per day. You can use this power in the following ways.
• Surge: After you fail any check that uses a d20 roll, as an immediate action you can expend one use of mythic power to roll 1d6 and retroactively add the result to the check.
• Extra Action: Up to once per round as a free action on your turn, you can expend one use of mythic power to take an additional standard action. This action cannot be used to cast a spell.

Koth'Vaul lashes out at Valrar with his greater reach but the claw is clumsy with the weight of negative energy and easily avoided.

No real way to get there without provoking

Koth'Vaul focuses his mind and glares up at Valrar. Power pulses from him and suddenly Valrar finds himself dropping to the ground and engulfed by Abyssal flame althiugh strangely it does him no harm.

Koth'Vaul dispels Valars fly

He then flies forward, soaring out of Valrars reach with an evil green before bearing down on the squishy casters. The remaining spores continue to do their work.

I can't find anything that says, I CAN'T cast dispel magic on myself to get rid of the confusion? Is this allowed, I want to stop at the confusion so as to leave the mage armor up, not that it will do much good against him. If not then cast summon monster.

You can totally use dispel magic to get rid of confusion. Dispel can be used to remove a specific magical effect and you defintely knoow you are confused. Unfortunately your roll does not succeed

Fortunately Bauble doesn't mind flying all over the place. But since it does seem to like attacking Vladek and Allie, he moves over to cover the nearest one.

Glitterdust doesnt allow for SR

Koth'Vaul shakes his head but manages to avoid becoming blind. Roaring in fury he unleashes all of his pent up anget at Alie! The first massive pincer lashes out, crushing her badly around the chest and neck. Alie goes limp and Koth'Vail roars in triumpb, ready to tear her unconscious form limb from limb. Before he can do so though he gasps, a rent appears in his flesh where shoulder and neck meet. It swiftly grows and cracks run all across his face and body.

The retribution curse tears the would be demon lord apart! Finally, he crashes to the ground and stops moving. Dead, or maybe just dying...

I am going to assume someone can get Alie stable. Bauble only has a few more d4's of spore damage which cannot kill him and the confusion only has 3 or 4 more rounds left which I dont see much point in rolling out.

In case anyone was interested, that was a 13 round PbP combat which took 8 weeks to resolve over 298 posts!

Incredible! I can’t believe we all sort of survived that one, lol! When he teleported next to me, I knew I was done for. Vladek was the clear MVP in that fight, between the damage, negative levels, retribution, and just messing with him! Thanks, everyone. THat fight will be one I always remember....

Those two critical hits on spells really came in clutch! Yeah, we probably wouldn't have had a chance otherwise.

Valrar looks hurt and annoyed that he wasn't able to do much more than distract. But he has a release handy. "I preferred him when he was a scared gnome stuck in a magic circle," he manages. He flies over to the body and holds his blade above the neck, clearly signalling intent. He waits for any dissent among the group.

Barring that, he plunges his weapon into Koth'Vaul's neck. He repeats himself until there isn't much more solid area there to stab.

Bauble continues flying about for a while until The Black Lord reminds him a few times that he should be looking for loot. With a pout, Bauble fires up a detect magic and checks out the bodies having totally put out of his mind where they are and why and how dang lucky he is to be alive.


Koth'Vaul wears a simple belt of braided human hair decorated with skulls. It also looks like it might be possible to remove the insect wing from his back and take that with you.

Its a minor str/con belt. The wing will be on your chronicle

Your task here is done, all that is left is to return to Nerosyan with the news of Koth'Vauls death. You think, with a little work you could create a short lived portal back to the Worldwound. Of couse you might consider also closing the existing portal that you entered through. Otherwise ucounted demons might enter into the world through it.

I am going to assume you create a gateway to get back to the place you entered from

Stepping through yuor portal you feel clean perhaps for the first time since you entered the Abyss and its swarming insects. All of you except Valrar, who, when he tries to step through the gate, is rebuffed.

Valrar is unable to leave the Abyss, it has claimed him as one of its own. You can throw whatever you have at the problem, dispels, teleportation effects, antimagic, nothing will let him leave. As a group, you are faced with the prospect of closing the only door that exists which gives you access to your friend and ally...

What do you do?

If you want to close the portal and leave Valrar (and tha Ambassador) in the Abyss for ever then I need one arcana, one geography, one religion and three planes checks. Each check can only be made onc so decide who is making them before rolling. You cannot aid on these. I can also tell you now that you cannot recover Valrar, he is about to be retired!

For Valrar:

Master of the Rasping Rifts: You devoured Deskari’s heart, becoming the new immortal master of the Abyssal realm known as the Rasping Rifts. Deskari expected you to serve him as his loyal steward, but he is not strong enough to command you from his grave. You will be unable to leave the Rasping Rifts for several centuries, but the direction the realm takes is now in your hands. This PC is permanently retired from play. However, he becomes a legal deity for your future Pathfinder Society characters. Include a copy of this Chronicle sheet with the records of any PC who worships this PC. You grant access to the same domains and favored weapon as Deskari.

Valrar doesn't look very surprised when he remains stuck in the Abyss. He sighs. "I figured this might happen. Well, I suppose it was what I wanted, in a karmic, roundabout way. I get to protect Pathfinders and kill demons in droves. And no one I like will be here when I go off the deep end and into a rampage, courtesy of boredom.

"What's important is that everyone's safe. I think I lost sight of that, at least a bit, somewhere along the way. Why didn't you try steering me onto the right path, you semi-sentient blob of gas?" Valrar pokes his blood-caked blade in the Ambassador's direction. He chuckles, looking surprisingly mirthful. "No, I'm just messing with you. You tried a lot harder than I noticed. Always pushing for 'cessation of submission to unstable forces with the potential for multiverse-wide threat,' right? Well, I think this incident proves you failed massively! But that's on me. Sorry, I think you're stuck down here too."

The man goes back to looking doleful after a second. With his hat, he's also changing his form rapidly, as if to distract himself or cope with the enormity of this situation. "You guys should go. You're not done yet. Neither am I, but I'll probably be here for a while. Maybe the longer-lived ones here will see me again. And if the damned Abyss doesn't interfere, we can exchange messages! I'll understand it that peters off or never happens, considering."

With that, Valrar sits down on the floor of the Rasping Rifts. He jams his weapon in the ground. He waits for his companions to respond, but it doesn't look like he'll move from this position for a while. A few weeks or months of contemplation and testing, and then he'll start up his plans - slaughtering demons wholesale, for all the good it'll do, when sinful dead souls like he might've ended up as just keep coming down to the Abyss.

Thats so cool for Valrar. I see to see him go, but becoming a diety to be worshipped is amazing!

He will enter the plains and take a day to perform a ritual to gain another great cat as a follower.

Bauble seems unconcerned with Valrar's fate, though he thinks it is WAAAYYY cool how he is able to manipulate the plane and promises to come visit one in a while to play and practice his flying. (obviously he votes to keep the portal open).

"If we get very lucky, maybe it'll happen again," Valrar puts on a grin he means at Alie's remarks. "In a while. Hopefully it's me, and not one of the others."

He does a poor job of covertly passing Alie something in their hug. Noticing this, he beckons her to show everyone else his Decimvirate seal. "I won't be needing that. Get someone good for the job."

Full disclosure to the higher-ups, we've learned our lessons about the Society keeping secrets. I don't know whether this will frighten or reassure the rank-and-file, though. I'll leave that up to you all." He scratches his head in thought. "Oh, I'd appreciate your finding a new head for my Lodge. Little place near Kalsgard, Two Matron's Lodge. Give it a better name, too, and put up a statue of me!"

Valrar claps Bauble on the back before the team leaves. "I hope you all can come over, only if you want to. But close the portal. If I get this right, I can open a new one. And until then, it's something I'll have to pay attention to to keep demons out of."

First, however, there is the matter of the portal....

Nope, you can make all of the checks. You are in no hurry so you can just take 10 if you want to.

Completing the ritual Vladek seals the rift, Valrars form slowly disappearing as it closes. With that your task is done. You return to Nerosyan to report to Venture Captain Jorsal. He is thrilled by your victory ans the people of Nerosyan hail you all as heroes. A statue is commissioned of you all.

CONCLUSION

PRIMARY SUCCESS CONDITIONS
The PCs fulfill their primary objective if they kill Koth’Vaul. Doing so earns each PC 1 Prestige Point.

SECONDARY SUCCESS CONDITIONS
The PCs fulfill their secondary success condition if they manage to close the portal to the Rasping Rifts in the Worldwound or if they spare any of Koth’Vaul’s mortal followers and convince them to return to Golarion to face justice or find redemption. Achieving either of these objectives earns each PC 1 additional Prestige Point.

And with that you complete both success conditions. Chronicles will come out in the next day or two.

Vladek's statue has the flowing base of his cloak supporting his spindly body as he hovers in mid-flight, his face fixed in an intense expression and his arms raised and contorted in an ominous arcane gesture.

Visitors to the statue are sometimes warned it is bad luck to stare for too long at the witch's eyes or hands; you don't want to catch whatever curse he destroyed a demon lord with, do you...?

On the other hand, they are also told they might possibly earn the witch's favor (or at least avoid his wrath) if they can manage to flick a coin from the base of the statue up to the top of his dragon familiar's grinning snout, or maybe a ring onto the magical scepter he carries, as he perches precariously upon the former's shoulder.

Fortunately, Valrar already relayed some preferences, statue-wise. His depicts himself in human form, less scruffy than he has looked in years. He sports a roguish grin and his blade is held high and at an angle, as if to block an unseen blow.

Alie’s statue has her normal sheepish grin etched on her face, once again not quite sure how she survived another day. Her pose was both hands outstretched as if she was casting one of her more powerful spells.

Before this mission, she might have chosen a pose at the wheel of a sailing vessel, where she earned her nickname, but that most happy memory was now gone from her mind for some reason.
