We need to see what happens when we take the offered ‘gifts’ before we buff, I think. It might help us in our Spellcasting. Same for casting remove curse on Bauble. We might get some groovy bonuses. At least that’s my thoughts.
Fendahl Silvermane |
Agreed. Fendahl was not casting any buffs until right before we are ready to 'jump'. Blood will come first...for whatever that brings.
Valrar Altimari II |
I'll pass on the sword. Even if it counted as a short sword for the purpose of swashbuckler abilities (which'd take a ruling), it still isn't as good for me as my scimitar most of the time.
Bauble |
Why would we want to? The sword seems geared towards frighting the wrong alignment. It's the scythe that might be useful in a battle I'm thinging.
Vladek Odradek |
Vladek is starting to wonder about that scythe, and Bauble's uncharacteristic fixation on it (not that fixation on shiny, sharp, magical things is uncharacteristic of Bauble at all, but that normally goes toward his own sword). He crumbles up a ball of myrrh and tries an old Osirian trick on the scythe and its wielder....
remove curse, Curse-Breaker, myrrh: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Vladek Odradek |
Unfortunately I don't think I do - but are you certain that's how remove curse works?
Vladek Odradek |
Therefore the above roll gets a CL of 12th, but okay. That seems to be the best I can do for now.
Alie Saechel |
This wouldn’t happen to qualify as a caster level check to overcome SR, would it? If so I’d get to roll twice on a greater dispel with my Fey Magic bloodline ability using my robe of arcane heritage.
Bauble |
I don't suppose he could use my reroll since this more profoundly affects Bauble than him?
Vladek Odradek |
This wouldn’t happen to qualify as a caster level check to overcome SR, would it?
If so, I'd get another +2.
Also, would break enchantment be any help?
I also have death knell prepared; can I/could I have cast that on the demon on his way (further) out?
Vladek Odradek |
Rogar, don't you have a greater dispel magic prepared?
Alie Saechel |
Doodle casts Greater Dispel Magic to try and rid Bauble from that horrid blade. First, she uses one scroll of Talisman of Reprieve to ignore the penalties from the awful plane.
Caster Level check 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
#2 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
#3 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
#4 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
We are just meant to be TPK’d. I don’t know what else to do.
#5 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
#6 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Welp, that’s all my 6th level spells gone. I could try and use a 7th or two if that last one doesn’t work.
Bauble |
Bauble is not quite sure of what to make of the fuss everyone is making. But when The Black Lord screams at him mentally, Bauble drops the scythe like a hot potato.
"Bauble not like The Black Stinker no longer. Stupid weapon not even talk. And too heavy for poor Bauble. Hmph."
And that sums it up nicely. Bauble doesn't even give it another look.
Bauble: Bauble sorry. And confused. Why Black Stinker seem so awesomely wonderful 1 minute and pathetic next minute, Bauble not understand. Bauble know about cursedly cursed things, but never been cursed.
The Black Lord: Hmph! You seem willful enough to ignore all my pleas for a decent home and yet you can't resist the compulsion from a two-bit demon blade. Hmph! I say you melt it down and make it into my scabbard.
Bauble: Oooh, Oooh! Bauble LOVE that idea!
"Um, Bauble have big favor he asks. When all bad demons dead and Black Stinker no longer needed, can Bauble have it? No worry, Bauble not want to use Black Stinker. Bauble want to melt bad blade and make black scabbard for Black Lord!"
Fendahl Silvermane |
Hrrmm. Being rid of the cursed blade is good. We will need all the help we can get. Once the others have decided their path, I will start my preparations before we port.
Bauble |
"Bauble remember that crusaders make Deskari Lord dead. How come you not dead? Did crusaders not make you dead? Not sure Deskari not dead better than new Demon Lord dead."
Qadathra |
Qadathra cranes his head to get a better look at the fossil-demon.
How about an apple? Do you have apples in the Abyss?
An...abyspal?
An appys?
An abypple...?
GMAndrewW |
The voice growwls angrily at Bauble's question, What does it look like? Treacherous mortals killed me! You would be wise to ask me no more of this matter.
As Valrar indicates that he wants to accept the heart Deskari causes it to emerge from the rocks before you. Eat it and it will reform you...
The rift around you fades away, its colors and sounds draining until you find yourself in total darkness and silence. Searing pain pierces your chest, and your heart beats wildly. The slimy, crunchy piece of demon flesh in your mouth writhes in time to the beating of your heart. Sound returns, in the form of skittering, chattering, and buzzing sounds of swarms of insects. In an instant, they engulf you, crawling over every inch of your flesh, pressing into your nose and mouth and attempting to burrow beneath your skin. With a simple exertion of will, you repel them all. Good, Deskari’s buzzing voice echoes. You are not too weak to survive this.
You are back in the Rasping Rifts, Deskari’s former realm. Here, the Abyss itself reaches out toward you, speaking into your mind. Someone must rise in his place. The demons in the distance stop their fighting, turning toward you. They are curious, and they are afraid. Deskari presses into your mind. He’s trying to be subtle, but you can feel his movements. You can also feel his shock and rage as you prove less pliable than he expected.
One thing is for certain—if you finish eating Deskari’s heart, you will become stronger than you ever imagined. But this strength will not come without great cost. You can stop now, or you can keep going. Tell your GM whether you decide to turn back now or to devour the rest of the heart.
Fair warning, consuming the heart will result in permanent and irreversible effects. Do you continue to eat?
Valrar Altimari II |
Valrar Altimari II |
I'll do it.
GMAndrewW |
As Valrar consumes the heart he doubles over in pain. His body is rocked with convulsions and his features begin to subtly shift and change.
If you wish you may make a Knowledge Planes check. Valrar, check your PMs
The rest of you accept the blood of deskari. You feel his power flow into you but it is not without a cost. Each of you begins to feel the lose of hope, joy and happiness as the stain of the demon Lord spreads through you.
Can each of you who drank the blood please describe your happiest in character moment. You have now forgotten that forever.
You have let Deskari’s blood flow through your veins, or you have stolen power from his heart on your own terms. Whatever the case, you have avoided the dire consequences that could have come from allowing more of the demon lord’s power to infuse you. You gain the following abilities
for the duration of this adventure.
Abyssal Attunement: You no longer take penalties on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma based skill checks based on the difference between the Abyss’s alignment and your own.
Additionally, you are particularly adept at manipulating the raw substance of the Abyss, an ability that will have mechanical benefits in your encounter with Koth’Vaul.
Initiative: You gain a +2 bonus on initiative checks.
Epic Strikes: Your attacks with natural and manufactured weapons bypass DR/epic.
Mythic Power: You gain two uses of mythic power per day. You can use this power in the following ways.
• Surge: After you fail any check that uses a d20 roll, as an immediate action you can expend one use of mythic power to roll 1d6 and retroactively add the result to the check.
• Extra Action: Up to once per round as a free action on your turn, you can expend one use of mythic power to take an additional standard action. This action cannot be used to cast a spell.
The voice returns, Yes, good, good, now you will be the instruments of my vengeance. Prepare yourselces, I will open the way to Koth'Vauls new realm. I do not know how close you will arrive but you should be ready to be challenged. Koth'Vaul will know you have arrived.
Valrar Altimari II |
Ambassador Planes: 1d20 + 28 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 28 - 4 = 41
Valrar doesn't entirely return from his hunched-over position. He draws his sword, speaking to everyone present without moving his lips. "We don't work for you. Just take whatever vicarious pleasure you get from us doing what you can't. Team, let's show Koth'Vaul who's boss."
I'll probably chug a few potions. Will fill out any details on the sheet.
Bauble |
Bauble feels a wash of despair come over him and tries to summon his happy moment, the day he first flew, but oddly it wasn't there. The Black Lord tries to remind him, with repeated promptings and the events surrounding it, but to no avail, which concerns him.
I don't really remember whether Bauble first flew because he learned the spell or someone cast it on him before that.
Alie Saechel |
Alie’s favorite memory was easy. When she survived the storm and captained the crew against all odds, gaining the nickname of “the Stormtamer.” Even when she struggled with missions after, she always was able to cling to the memory, reminding herself how strong she could be. Suddenly, it was gone.
Alie Saechel |
GM, has my Heroism expired? If so, I will refresh it. I will also cast True Seeing, Overland Flight, mirror image for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 extra images, and Haste on the party.
I will update the buff sheet. Anyone else want a buff?
Bauble |
Bauble will burn 2 more points from his pool to recall Mirror Image, a spell he had not prepared previously, and cast it on himself extended via his rod. He will also cast shield on himself from his wand.
Anyone want to do a resist energy thing? Bauble has resist energy communal prepared.
Fendahl Silvermane |
fendahl will start to cast his buff spells as listed. Communal resist fire was one, Bauble. But we can cover a different energy...acid or electric etc?
Fendahl shudders as he despairs as his fond memory of...the very first demon he helped vanquish as part of his first mission with the Society.
The last thing he does before going through the portal will be to summon a dire tiger and cast atavism upon it.
Let us proceed to victory and regain the honor we sacrificed with these demons!
Valrar Altimari II |
Valrar uses some consumables to keep himself safe and mobile.
UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Potion and wand use marked on the sheet. I will also load my medlance with a potion of displacement.
GMAndrewW |

Doesn't spell recall only work on spells you have prepared and already cast? Also, resist energy is not normally a magus spell. I dont see spell blending on your arcana list?

Heroism is still active. You have been in the Abyss now for just over two hours. If you are thinking about cross buffing then throwing heroism around like it is christmas is probably not a bad idea if you have the spell slots.
Alie Saechel |
GM is making a good point. Anyone want a heroism? My spells probably aren’t going to scratch him, so any buffing I can do for the group, please ask.
I also have two scrolls of stoneskin and one scroll of mass enlarge person, if these would help anyone.
Valrar Altimari II |
I'll gladly take Stoneskin and Heroism, thanks!
Bauble |

Using improved spell recall, which a magus gets at level 11, she can actually prepare any spell in her spellbook but it costs the full level cost instead of half. And once it has been prepared, she can get it back for the normal half! (at least that is how I read it). I had to reread it three times to make sure I got it right. I sure hope I did.
@Allie & Rogar
Any buffs would be appreciated. Both stoneskin and heroism would help greatly. No elnarge, though, since he is a dex fighter. Now reduce person would be nice!

Yep, that is fine. Still not sure how you have communal resist? Update will come tomorrow night now so if you are dropping any buffs make sure they are on the spreadsheet before then.
Alie Saechel |
Alie casts Heroism and Uses her scroll of Stoneskin on Bauble.
Bauble, will you please add your buffs to the sheet, and Valrar, you do the same. I’m marking of the spells and the scroll and the material component now.
Just to be on the safe side, Alie casts Echolocation on herself, readying for any dirty tricks from the demon.
Bauble |

Well, how about that! It is not on the magus spell list, is it! My bad. Consider it an open slot and money I wasted on copying or taking a spell Bauble cannot cast!
I'm adding a heightened awareness from his wand to the mix. So heightened awareness first, 10 minute duration; mirror image second, 22 minute duration due to rod, shield last, 1 minute duration. Just before they are ported. Buff sheet updated.
