Hi all!
I'm keen for us all to try to post regularly (aim for once or more per weekday and, at least once on weekends). Whilst adventures can be caught in 'conversation loops' back and forth, I will endeavour to keep things kicking along and get the gist of where a conversation is going and keep us pointed in the right direction.
Work, study, piracy on the Spanish main, and wild parties in Mexico have a way of getting in the way sometimes and if that is likely please leave a post in advance if you know that you are likely to have limited time/ability to post for a period of time (and when we can expect you back). I fully anticipate that we will probably have a bit of a go-slow over Xmas and New Years (at which point I will be posting from 2020 whilst you are all still in the wayback of 2019).
On that note, I am posting from Sydney, Australia. Most of you will be posting when I am asleep so when I get up around 0500 odd I usually do the catch up over a coffee, and then usually in the afternoon/evening each day.
I will generally roll Initiative (and any other rolls if really required), but not to shaft anyone or railroad them, more in the interest of giving you some sort of outcome to then respond to - I aim to complete a single round of combat within 24 hours.
When in combat, unless a PC has left botting instructions or made arrangement for another player to bot them, I will place any PC that has not posted within the past 24 hours (48 hours on a weekend) on delay.
If a single skill check has been called for, I will accept the PC with the highest skill bonus as the "primary" and all other attempts by PCs for the same check as aiding another.

Those are 5th element flight attendants aren't they? Nice detail. And lots of cyberpunk looking bystanders. Looks like Shadowrun guys to me.
I just noticed I made a mistake with my reporting info, listing it again with correction;

Hey all!
As you may know, a large chunk of Australia is burning.
I have just been called and informed to stand by for a call back from my break to redeploy to assist firefighting efforts. If this kicks off I may be out of comms for about 24 hours or so with little to no notice.
So just warning now in case I go silent.

![]() |

Good luck and thanks for letting us know ..although in this case I'm not sure the suspense of not knowing would have been worse then knowing you are off fighting forest fires.

![]() |

Shifty, is there any way of helping? My means are modest, but would the Australian Red Cross be something to google if I can make a modest donation? Or is there something more local to you?

Shifty |

Hi guys - I got called out today and into things in earnest for the next 24 hours.
I’ll then be ok to post again consistently but possibly just 1-2 times daily.
@doc - NSW Rural Fire service is bearing the brunt of the efforts and are s mostly volunteer organisation :)
I’m Defence Force (Army) so am taken care of, but those guys really cop it.

Gang, I did find this link that looks like it would help brave firefighters and their families local to Shifty (Shifty, if you have time, please confirm).
https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer/support-your-local-brigade
I plan on making a modest donation later this evening.

Just checking in.
The initial fire response is transitioning into disaster recovery, which is great. I am getting a break 28 Jan - 06 Feb, and jumping on a cruise ship for some R&R before going back to the Operation and into the cleanup piece. Fires are still burning, but mostly away from settled areas.
As you'll notice, I have managed to keep in comms every day, so things are progressing pretty well.
What we're doing - and where the damage is - pretty much 195 miles of wrecked coastal towns. Some are just fire-affected, some are just gone.

Good to hear things are not getting worse - if not exactly getting better.
I heard the rain finally came and the fires are more manageable now but you've got flooding because there's no root systeem left to keep the soil together and it's causing mud slides.

Shifty |

Yeeeeah there has been a bit of heavy rain come through which has really helped the fire issue (where the rain fell) but as you rightly note, mud slides become an issue.
Also, all those roads that were just reopened after being covered in burnt trees then end up with other trees that are burnt out but still standing getting wet, becoming heavy, and falling down - so another clean up. Also, the rain washes down off peoples ash-covered roofing, into their guttering, then into their rainwater tanks - so that can contaminate drinking water, as can excessive silt and ash washing into their creeks and dams (which also kills all the fish in the river).
Still, I prefer to deal with storms and storm damage than fire damage, and if it knocks down suspect trees so we can sort them now, it is better than a tree falling down on a road at some other date like a ticking time bomb and wiping out a vehicle.
Jeez.

One more day of work then I'm hopping on a cruise ship for 9 nights in the South Pacific. It's going to be a well-needed break, but also its my opportunity to have a look at the ship's facilities as I am hosting PaizoCon South-Pacific 2020 onboard the same ship at the end of the year.
Looking forward to my favourite boulangerie in Noumea, their croissants are the best you can get :)

Starship roles
Sully -- prefers aft guns (+9 or +10)
OP-1 -- Piloting +16, Gunnery +9, Engineering +9, Computers +9..only thing you don't want OP-1 to do is captain ;)
Doc Morvius -- captain, but can do a decent job with Science. In a pinch, he can be an engineer, pilot, or gunner. Bluff +9 , Computers +9 , Diplomacy +9 , Engineering +8 , Intimidate +8 , Piloting +5
Jack -- Bluff +6, Engineering +2, Intimidate +10,* Piloting +10, Sense Motive +10,
Quig -- +13 Engineering, +11 Computers, +5 Gunnery
My suggestions:
Pilot: OP-1
Engineer: Quig
Guns: Sully, Jack (Doc M or Quig if available)
Science: Doc M (or Quig if engineering's not needed)
Captain -- Jack or Doc M (situational swap?)

I like it so far. There's lots to do, and chances for everyone to act.
What do you guys think about the Remorhazz? The lack of stern armament in most ships is a pet peeve of mine because it makes running away that much harder, but I think they went too far. For a smuggler this would make sense because they would almost always want to run, but Starfinders want to be able to fight straight up sometimes. A couple ideas to make this a better Starfinder ship:
1. Upgrade turret and/or forward light laser cannon to coil guns just to add a little foward punch.
2. More speed. If aft is your strongest weaponry arc, you want to make sure you can put the enemy there.
3. Switch out the turret missiles for a direct fire weapon. This is mostly a playability concern, because if you're at longer range, managing the missiles is just another chore. And sometimes 5 shots is not enough.

![]() |

There are some very common boons that can give you more missile shots. I would want to make sure one player has one if possible.
I agree, a faster more maneuverable ship would be desirable, although I don't know if you could pull off such a design on a more maneuverable frame.

![]() |

Do we need to use a weapon each..or can we divide all 8 weapons so that someone has an extra?
I'm not sure everyone could use every variation present..I'd prefer a pistol, but I could use a sniper rifle instead
