Cautiously exploring - you open the north door.

Candles, scrolls, and bizarre statuettes fill the nooks lining the walls here, all facing toward an alabaster and jade altar near the room’s center. A stone stairway runs along the room’s outer wall, spiraling upward. Another door is set in the back wall near the entrance.

DC 15 Knowledge (religion) check:
You can identify holy symbols of Dahak, Lamashtu, and Urgathoa among other, more obscure deities.

DC 20 on same Knowledge (religion) check:

The room seems secure, and River does not spot anyone lurking above.

What River sees up the main staircase:
Ebony and red leather wash this apartment’s furnishings in darkness. A body swathed in red and black lies slumped over the altar dominating the room’s center. Many apparent holy texts line the walls, all filled with gibberish and childish scribbling. A tin and gold holy symbol of Asmodeus rests on the altar.

The body has been dead for countless centuries.

When the door is finally opened by Daedîn and Leosa, there is a rush of stale air. The hallway is lined with opened boxes, mostly empty but with a few stale and moldy foodstuffs.

From the cramped stairway beyond, you hear a voice. "You came! You finally came!" It takes you a moment to place it. It is the voice of the Dragon's cook - Biyo - who introduced you to the realm and this quest so many weeks ago in the Midnight Circus.

Assuming you want to go down to the voice you hear, please line up how you wish to traverse stairways in this fortress.

Sihir's recall about shadow demons:
SLAs = At will (deeper darkness, fear, greater teleport, telekinesis), 3/day (shadow conjuration and evocation), 1/day (magic jar, summon another shadow demon). The shadow demon also has moderate Spell Resistance and Darkvision

Note that Not-Trixie is in 2 places at once! Just wanted to show that the last step on the upper floor is next to the first step on the lower floor

Psycho flies upstairs and casts Echolocation on himself.

EcholocationYou can perceive the world by creating high-pitched noises and listening to their echoes. This gives you blindsight to a range of 40 feet. The echo-producing noises are too high-pitched to be heard by most creatures, and can only be detected by dragons, other creatures with this ability (such as bats), and creatures with hearing-based blindsense or blindsight. You cannot use this ability if you are deaf, and cannot detect anything in an area of silence.

Sihir's thin fingers reach over the stairway wall to touch Psycho, Not-Trixie, Leosa, and then himself - protecting each from the evil downstairs. Psycho zooms into the room and tries to summon a new sense to use. Daedîn creeps down to set an ambush.

The demon swirls its ways through the room ending in the center and causing a blistering wave of panic to fill the entire eastern side of the room. The casting of the spell forces it to become visible to all who can see it in the dark. River's stardust fills the area around it, but as it dissipates the demon remains unlit.

Not-Trixie's face goes white as a sheet, and she flees back up the stairwell in a blind panic.

Doesn't look like protection from evil prevents this since it's not exercising mental control over Not-Trixie, and the resistance bonus from the spell won't stack with her Cloak of Resistance. Since it's only one creature (that we know of), I don't think it's worth using the folio reroll. @GM, how long is she out of commission?

@Not-Trixie --- 10 rounds. You don't have to move any farther than you have, unless the red shadow demon shows itself up there.

Not-Trixie gasps and flees to the safety of the storeroom above while Leosa swings savagely through the petulant demon.

Leosa and Daedîn both feel a twinge of pain in their heads as their souls fight to remain. Leosa's protective warding is enough to diffuse the attempt on her, but Daedîn struggles to keep control and his soul barely succeeds!

River has the ability to see normally in any kind of darkness, even supernatural, so hopefully reading the scroll is not an issue

@Leosa You can take your remaining move action...

Also, I know Not-Trixie is panicked but didn't know if Vendalfek had any ideas

Vendalfek is too busy trying to cheer Not-Trixie up and get her back in the game to think about all the yelling going on downstairs.

Also, since the demon is slain, does that end Not-Trixie's panic? Uncertain how that would work, but you're usually only scared of the caster.

@Not-Trixie It will end it, but since it was killed after your turn, you have to wait til next turn to move downstairs again.
