And welcome All!

As more of us check in, I'll outline the ground rules and get us underway in Gameplay.

If you have played with GMs like GM Doom ‘n Gloom, GM Hawthwile or GM Tyranius, I doubt there'll be any surprises ;)

Dark Archive

M Wizard (Spellslinger) 1/Occultist (Psychodermist) 2 | HP 22/22 | AC 19.15.15 | R+6 F+5 W+7 | Init +4 | Perc +8 Darkvision | Active Conditions: Mage Armor

dot.

Have played with a few of those. Looking forward to it :)

Me too!

If it makes a difference, this scenario has Chronicle goodies for Dark Archive and Liberty's Edge PCs.

Aww, thanks for the shout-out GM!

I would prefer high-tier, as my Dark Archives characters are lvl 4-5. I'm fine to adjust if our lvl 3 characters are uncomfortable playing out-of-tier. My options from the recruitment thread have been copied here:

Reckum, Gnome Barbarian 2
- He's small, he's easily excitable, he's not the best at fancy dinner parties (not that it stops him from trying to participate). If there's something that could be ridden, he's always up to try!

Sieglinde, Human Archer Paladin 2
- Passionate for bringing justice to those who have escaped it for too long, usually from the point of an arrow.

Paltair, Half-Orc Warpriest 2
- He'll yell at you from across the room to participate in a challenge of strength, then cheer on all participants equally. Unfairness and cheating get him riled up and ready to use the large axe slung across his back (though he says he's always on the lookout for a larger one).

Angry Magic Tree, Leshy Bloodrager 3
- Basically tiny Groot, but with a larger vocabulary.

Brakkik, Ratfolk Alchemist 3
- If you'd like something exploded, this rat's the man for the job! He'd love to tell you about how the proper application of heat and pressure can break even the strongest locks, but you'd have to decipher his ramblings through what sounds like marbles in his mouth.

Orzworth, Oread Unchained Monk 3
- This man's fists are gently when treating injuries - and as hard as stone to those who inflicted those wounds. He himself is painfully shy, almost incapable of saying a word when meeting someone for the first time.

Torku, Tiefling Battle Host Occultist 4
- He'd much rather be reading than adventuring (or dealing with people), but experience and too many denials at the libraries of Absalom have taught this tiefling that the best books can only be bought with favors. An aged rapier hangs from his hip, moving in unison with the man's purposeful stride.

Lucky Luli, Dual-Cursed Oracle 4
- Adopted by a wolf after a lab accident cost him both his eyes and the use of his leg, this halfling doesn't let anything keep him down for long. Perhaps as karma's apology, the fates twist around him to aid his friends and hinder his foes.

Angoldir, Elf Familiar-Bonded Investigator 4
- Age has left this elf unable to effect change through direct action anymore, even as he continues to seek the truth (whether good or bad, flattering or uncomfortable). He has learned how to work effectively with those around him, aiding their efforts with both his trusty sword cane and his centuries of experience.

Reginald Gerbin III, Human Wizard Witch 5
- The most powerful wizard you've ever encountered, able to master magics no normal wizard could even dream of casting! He brings enemies to their knees with his spells - and apparently few minds are strong enough to handle such clever puns as his unfathomable intellect can produce from thin air.

All other things being equal, I'd prefer to take Luli or Angoldir. Both support characters, albeit in rather different ways. What's everyone else's first choice of character to bring?

GM Tyranius picked up a couple of games I had with GMs that couldn't finish. We all really appreciated his generosity.

I can play 3 or 5. Happy to go with the flow.

Silver Crusade

Female Half-orc Paladin/Bard

Since it looks like we are leaning up anyways, i’ll bring my vigilante. I just need to finish leveling her and she’s good to go. She’s a magical child so she has a familiar (with the sage archetype). She just hit 5 so it gets another form and I’ve only just figured out which one to pick.

Black Midknight is effective, but not the most optimized. I just had a concept and went for it. I wanted a vigilante themed around Desna/The Black Butterfly. She plays a ditzy celebrity actress in her social identity (complete with the Notorious Fool talent) and is a super serious Cassandra Cain-Batgirl type in vigilante identity. Her dad is also a superhero, a combo of Batman and Green Arrow as a slayer/inquisitor of Milani. She has made it her goal to surpass him in every way. She also has my chronicle form Iron Gods book 1 so she has some tech gear.

Sovereign Court

Male Half Orc Paladin 5 AC 21 {T:11/FF:19} HP 49/49 Init+1, Perception -1 / Fort +10, Reflex +6, Will +7

GM Doom 'n Gloom, why I resemble that remark!

Party so far (ish):
Wizard/Occultist (out of tier)
Fighter/Wizard
Vigilante
Hunter (out of tier)

I'll go with my paladin (out of tier), unless we need to fill a long-range DPS role.

The Exchange

Alas, my high-tier Dark Archive folks are spoken for, but I have a few low-tier Liberty's Edge characters. No deal? Oh well. I guess everyone will have deal with my Charisma 7, outlaw-biker-esque, Ulfen, viking, Shackles' pirate, ship's war wizard.

He gets along great with paladins!

Whom I kidding? Agirran doesn't get along with anyone. ;)

Hrothdane wrote:

I had thought about bringing my "unvigilante" but she's still stuck in the Mists of Mwangi. And I do have a magical girl (sort of) but she's a CORE paladin, and therefore can't come unless I deCORE her.

Agirran the Fury wrote:

Agirran, meet Korum. Korum -- Agirran. ;)

♡ ♡

Hrothdane, I am a big fan of the Desna/Black Butterfly duality(?)

James Jacobs nails fantasy gods, especially benevolent ones from deep space/entropic dimensions.

I look forward to meeting Rowena and Black Midknight.

Kala, I like to keep Pathfinder + Pet together in combat because I think it’s better for game-flow and easier on the player.

However, Kala & Stinky have different initiative modifiers.

I would prefer to average the pair’s Initiative modifiers (mean of +1, +4 = +2.5, rounded down in d20 games) => +2. Are you OK with that?

An alternative would be to roll separately and have Stinky delay to wait for a command from you before he acts. How has this been handled in other games you’ve played?

If the need arises, I will roll separate passive perception checks for both Kala + Stinky.

While I have everyone, let’s check our sub-tier calculator.

Conig, arcane casty 3
Can you confirm Conig is Dark Archive please, OG3?

Korum, paladin 3

Kala, hunter 3

Black Midknight, vigilante 5

Arrigan, fighter/magic user 4

Hawthwile, oracle or investigator 4

Handy Dandy sub-tier calculator: 3 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 4 = 22/6 = 3.67

The nearest whole number to 3.67 is 4, which means we are currently set to play high tier with no adjustment.

I am going to provide Faction Missions for this adventure. This is partly because there are formal handouts for Edgy Libertarians and Dark Archivists, which influence the Faction Chronicle boon their members may receive.

Seems only right that the other factions should also receive a mission. (Also I ♡ factions)

However, there is NO OBLIGATION TO ACTUALLY DO THE FACTION MISSIONS, in order to get the full Fame + Prestige awards for this scenario.

Questions? Ask me here or send me a PM.

In past games, the GMs have nearly always just used Kala's initiative bonus and put the two of them together. There was one game in which the GM did it separately, and it was rather clumsy. My preference is for them to go together, so I'm okay with averaging their bonuses if that's how you want to do it. :)

Kala probably won't do a mission, as she hasn't yet developed a real connection with her faction. She mostly joined the Society because it was something to do that would keep her busy doing many different things and thus not give her much time to think. She didn't much care about the factions at the time and hasn't given thought to them since. That said, if the mission aligns with her values, she may change her mind. Who knows: this may be the mission that gets her to care.

"I love paladins!" shouts the pirate.

I'm good with whomever but don't think you have to change characters because of a one or two level difference. If Conig was in the lower tier level range then probably yes.

Agreed - unless your character is planning to go toe-to-toe with opponents on a regular basis, they should be fine as a lvl 3 character in tier 4-5. Of course, play the character that you want to play.

That being said, I’ll probably take Luli the oracle if Conig comes and Angoldir the investigator if he doesn’t.

Cool! That’s what we’ll do then.

There is no obligation to do the Grand Lodge faction mission. I would suggest Dark Archivists and Edgy Libertarians at least read their faction mission because that letter does have some bearing on the Chronicle Faction boon they may be awarded at the end of the game.

I’ll post the ground rules now in case there are any questions.

♆ Please make it obvious what buffs you have active and what your AC is.
♆ Miss is always low if a miss chance applies. For example, if there is a 50% miss chance on a melee attack, a result of 1-50 on d100 is a miss.
♆ I roll group initiative and track character actions.
♆ If I make a mistake on the current combat round, please let me know and I will try to make it right.
♆ I generally prefer PCs to roll their own saving throws and Attacks of Opportunity (AoO). However …
♆ I like a relatively fast-paced scenario. I find when a game loses momentum, the fun is quickly sucked out of it.
As such, if you do not post an action within 24 hours from when I invite you to post, I reserve the right to take actions for your character.

♆ If at all possible, please let me know if something comes up that prevents you from posting.

Questions? Just let me know.

As we’ve pretty much decided on which PC we’re bringing, I’ll get us started in Gameplay shortly.

Team Stinky Discussion:
Agirran is a practical man, and is not inclined to hang around, and talk to strangers when he is supposed to be keeping his head down. There's a mission to accomplish if the team ever wants to leave before they are left behind by the Society like Olandil, and have to wait another 5 years for another group to come along and spring them. He sees more involvement in the turbulent environment as more chance to make enemies of the wrong people (like say the Galtans, or the Loyalists). This seems the sort of place where just being seen talking to the wrong person can get you shivved.

The sooner he's done, the sooner he's done.

Team Stinky Discussion:
Team Stinky has the freedom to make whatever decisions they like.

We all know decisions have consequences, and those consequences are not always the ones you expect.

A desire to keep your head down doesn’t prevent the game-world from carrying on around you. Your characters can react to those circumstances however you decide.

For what it’s worth, my aim is to provide an engaging, entertaining game for everyone.

I accept I cannot achieve this goal for every player.

Team Stinky Discussion:
No worries from me GM. I was just laying out Agirran's thought process to Kala and Stinky's player the way I might at a game table, or out in the kitchen while grabbing snacks.

Agirran does not have a G in his alignment.
Anyone already here has lived in this dump since the blockade began, and can probably find their own way home.
Because most people here have had no one to stare at for 5+ years than each other, the party already sticks out like a sore thumb, and therefore this might be some sort of Loyalist trap.
The lady seems a bit arbitrary and nosy--and she teased Agirran--it's not the biggest thing but Agirran nurses grudges like a mother grudge might.
The Loyalists are not his friends.
The Galtans are not his friends.
In fact, Agirran doesn't have any friends--and there may be some very good reasons for that, but he doesn't plan on making any here.

Team Stinky Discussion:
Fair enough, Agirran. Kala has realized that she's in way over her head on this mission, and is a little too desperate to avoid being the weak link. She's probably going to follow Agirran's lead for a while since she's messed up everything else so far. At least, that's how she sees it.

Oh, this is FANTASTIC!

Rowena or whomever you designate, please make an attack roll to fire this thing and tell me what you’re aiming at.

If you could draw a line on the map indicating the positions of the adamantine spike and the trailing steel cable, that would be ideal.

Then everyone please indicate how you’re using the steel cable to help you get across. If you want to make jump, climb, acrobatics or ‘something creative’ checks along with your description of how you’re using the cable, please do so.

I note there is only room for two Pathfinders between the trap and the door, until the door is opened.

Everyone here is a reasonably experienced Pathfinder. So let’s keep this moving, please peeps :)

My thinking is hitting the far wall and letting people climb across the line. I drew a blue line for the trajectory I'm thinking. Perhaps Conig can fly over to the other side then fire the line back. We do it that way, and we can just retract the line once we are all over.

@Conig, I understand you can Magic Trick your floating disk to ride it yourself. What is your CL for ✨casting the floating disk?

Based on Rowena’s attack roll and her positioning of the steel cable, I am ruling the grapple-spike has lodged in the stone wall/ceiling intersection, which is 10 feet high.

As such the “rifle-end” of the grapple will need to be anchored in order to make a DC 15 climb check to get across.

However, you can also swing across (Acrobatics DC 10) or leap across from the western side without a running start (Jump DC 10)

Based on the order posted, I will assume STR=14 Kala has anchored the cable allowing Rowena to climb across and then Korum has swung across.

There is room for two Pathfinders on the southern side of the trap.

@Conig, I understand you can Magic Trick your floating disk to ride it yourself. What is your CL for ✨casting the floating disk?

CL1 from a wand.

OK, so that's a maximum 100 lb you can carry on the disk.

I'm thinking Conig doesn't weigh much, right? Even so, he would not be able to transport Phelerosa at all.

He should be able to transport Stinky alone on the disk, but I'm thinking Conig + Stinky riding the disk together will exceed the 100 lb limit.

In that case, Kala will anchor the cable as you suggested, then she and Stinky will jump from the west side.
