Wow, thunderspirit, you're a tough guy, coming into the scenario with 8 out of 20 hp! (Might want to update your stat line...)
We're waiting on my friend Doug (local SF player), who Oladon and Chris Marsh have played with in PbP, I believe. I'll get us ready to start and we can get rolling once Doug dots in.

Chris, I so enjoy the name of this character, because it reminds me of the many hours I spent as a kid reading Asterix comics, and particularly this recurring bit in many of them.

Awesome! Asterix is great since it even comes in Latin! Indeed I took the lazy route and just altered a couple of letters from Vercingetorix so that I wasn't stealing it wholesale. :-)

Bah, healing is for the weak. ;-)

But they're sacred crocodiles! You can't just feed them any old thing! :-)

And we're off!
Biago, can I get you to put a character sheet in your profile, and pick a an avatar so I can put it on the map?
And Hampton, I couldn't agree more - I believe that was Ptenisnet who said that, right? Or at least he figured in that issue.

Edifis the architect, I think (it's been many years since I read it). But still. These Egyptians are crazy! :-)

Hey gang – I wanted to clarify how I’m trying to use spoilers for secret checks, and get any feedback you have to offer. On the Lore and Nature checks in my opening post, I asked for rolls and then gave a range of results, with the idea being that you’d check only the spoiler that applied to your result. This seems to have been unclear enough that one person followed the PF1 model and looked at their result and everything below it, and another got a crit fail and I wasn’t sure from their post that they checked it.
So – do you think this is a good way to handle these? If so, is there something I can do to make it clearer how to interact with them?
Another approach, which I have used before, is to check everyone’s character sheet and see who has which skills and roll for them in secret – but that means I have to look at everyone’s sheet, which takes time, and the players don’t even know what I’m rolling behind my screen. At a table, I can ask people for their bonus on a given skill and whether they’d like to make a check (they might not wish to risk a crit failure), and that would take a long time in PbP.
And, as Packet pointed out to me in a separate conversation, there’s also the Dubious Knowledge feat, which is great for RP, but requires a totally different approach than the one I’ve tried in this game.
Thoughts, y’all?

My thoughts:
1. The drastic increase in secret rolls puts too much of a burden on a GM. In PF1 (and honestly 3.0 and 3.5) there were crit fail false information results. Not every scenario/module had it, but they existed.
2. I think your system is awesome. In PbP it's not too bad to take 30 seconds to format the results into spoilers.
3. After I rolled mine, I realized that I should have rolled them in secret. That way the burden is shifted back to the player, but the secret is protected from all other players.
I think that combination leads to the best result.

I like your spoiler approach.
I'm steadfastly on the side of roleplaying your failures, and as a result I'm not at all a fan of the Secret Roll Society. I've had great fun roleplaying failed Bluff and Acrobatics checks in the past, and I find it's incumbent on the players to do that properly and not metagame with the "they rolled a 4, so I'll go ahead and roll for that."
But I'm also a grumpy grognard, so.

It's an interesting conundrum. Sadly it makes me not want to take Dubious Knowledge as a feat, because it seems more annoying than fun in this situation. I too like to role play failure.
Something we have done in other pbps is to have a google doc with the knowledge rolls already formatted and the players put in their bonuses, so that way the GM can easily copy and paste from it to make the rolls as needed. Obviously it would take an initial time investment.
I really don't want to disrupt things though, so I'll go with whatever we decide.

I will be traveling Tuesday to Friday of this week. I should still be able to post some, but will be less regular about it.

For those who don't know, I'll be on vacation (a real, honest-to-the-gods vacation) starting tomorrow through Friday, November 22. I don't know how available I will be, but my profile is up to date and if I can't post, anyone can feel free to bot me as needed.

![]() |

Due to American Thanksgiving, my posting will be spotty from Wednesday Morning until Sunday morning. I'll do my best! If I'm a player, bot me! If I'm the GM, DO NOT BOT ME.

Damn caveats. LOL

DM Khel |

You're done with combat now that Rax has killed the shrews - still a bit of exploration to do.

DM Khel |

I've got PFS character info from Packet, Rax and Hampton, still need it from Valeros and Biago.
And I need Earn Income checks (or other downtime activities) from everyone.
And here's my Earn Income check, for my fortune-telling gnome wizard, Tangent Polywhindle:
Fortune-Telling Lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 crit success!

Desert Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

With the Thanksgiving food coma behind me, I've finally managed to put the chronicles together. You can find them here.
Game has been reported. Thanks for playing, all!
