Looking to possibly try my hand at DMing as my home groups seem to have dissolved. I am looking to possibly run it with a chance to branch into even more adventures. As I am looking to get a really good group going.
Hoping the start will help me get a better understanding of the Rules and getting a good start to help build a nice interactive world!

I like the stat weights in 5th edition. The lower caps means that your attributes mean more.
It does take a bit of mental adjustment to the lower overall numbers when compared to something like first edition Pathfinder. Once you get used to it, I found that I prefer it much more than 5th edition.
Also, I love the advantage/disadvantage system. It's simple and elegant.

I think the kit rules just do 4 races (human, elf, dwarf, halfling) and 5 classes (bard, cleric, fighter, rogue, wizard). While that would no doubt be fun, it really wouldn't be a huge strain on someone who has played RPGs to just jump into the normal PHB.
Whichever way you go, I'd be interested as a player.

Always willing to help out to incorporate new DMs to the game!
Welcome!
Consider me interested as well.
Like it's been said, I am not sure what differences there are between regular 5e and the 'essentials kit' but we'll figure it out. I'm assuming it's a watered down version (as in less options) 5e.
While I'm no expert, I have DMed a few PBP games so feel free to ask me questions (even if you don't run a game or I don't get picked).
Game on!

Cool, I've DMed home campaigns as well as tried a few Pathfinder ones here. I found out that the rules I homebrewed for Pathfinder were far different from the rules for actual Pathfinder so I have decided that with my real-life game dissolving I'm gonna try DMing some cool 5e stuff here.
I would allow the PHB races and classes, alongside the various Archetypes allowed via the other books. Just no Non-PHB races for now.
And I am gonna try to run it more like the regular 5e with the 5e adventures. While I run it I'll have my second campaign in the works to hope to have a cool original campaign.
I'll look for about 5 to 6 people to have a party.

Glad there’s so much interest that’s awesome :D
If we’re talking party composition, I was thinking of a wizard going blade singer if that helps anyone else with what they’re considering playing!
Incidentally, loving the fact that classes seem so balanced, gives a chance to play what you want rather than being concerned that your PC won’t be able to contribute!

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it's the sign of a good balance that you can build a character different ways to get to the same concept, and 5e does this brilliantly.
I am going with a classic Human (non-variant) Fighter. I'm also doing some dice rolling for background (which you can find in Xanathar's Guide to Everything) tables to random up his character narrative. Hence the following dice rolls:
Knew my Parents: 1d100 ⇒ 88 I knew my parents.
Mother's Alignment: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) = 10 True Neutral
Mother's Class: 1d100 ⇒ 6 Barbarian
Mother's Occupation: 1d100 ⇒ 47 Farmer
Mother's Relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 4) = 9 Friendly
Mother's Status: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) = 13 Alive and Quite Successful
Father's Alignment: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14 Neutral Good
Father's Class: 1d100 ⇒ 56 Paladin
Father's Occupation: 1d100 ⇒ 75 Merchant
Father's Relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) = 8 Friendly
Father's Status: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7 Alive but doing poorly due to Financial Difficulties
Number of Siblings: 1d10 ⇒ 7 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 3
Oldest Sister's Alignment: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) = 13 Neutral Good
Oldest Sister's Class: 1d100 ⇒ 36 Druid
Oldest Sister's Occupation: 1d100 ⇒ 21 Guild Member
Oldest Sister's Relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 3) = 5 Friendly
Oldest Sister's Status: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) = 15 Alive and Quite Successful
Second Youngest Brother's Alignment: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) = 6 Neutral Evil
Second Youngest Brother's Class: 1d100 ⇒ 69 Ranger
Second Youngest Brother's Occupation: 1d100 ⇒ 60 Hunter
Second Youngest Brother's Relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7 Friendly
Second Youngest Brother's Status: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) = 8 Alive and doing poorly due to relationship difficulties
Youngest Brother's Alignment: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) = 8 Neutral Evil
Youngest Brother's Class: 1d100 ⇒ 75 Rogue
Youngest Brother's Occupation: 1d100 ⇒ 83 Politician
Youngest Brother's Relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) = 7 Friendly
Youngest Brother's Status: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) = 11 Alive and Well
My Birthplace: 1d100 ⇒ 88 Among people of a different race
Family Lifestyle: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) = 8 Poor
Childhood Home: 1d100 ⇒ 52 Apartment in a rundown neighborhood
Childhood Memories: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) + 1 = 15 I had several friends, and my childhood was generally a happy one.
I became a Soldier Because: 1d6 ⇒ 2 A relative of mine was a soldier, and I wanted to carry on the family tradition.
I became a Fighter Because: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Horrible monsters descended on my community, killing someone I loved. I took up arms to destroy those creatures and others of a similar nature.

SO just a review of what to apply with
Feats are allowed, Variant humans only and yes roll on the entire XGE background rolls.
When I make it through this campaign I will have another Homebrewed campaign to run in a world of my making, with feedback from the characters in the next stroll. Should be interesting.

As for Backgrounds. Like I said Any you can get that aren't Ravinca specific [I doubt you all come from such a place at such a low level]
Also, the random background generator will be helpful in fleshing out your stories, but in this first Campaign, I probably won't weave a lot of it in there.
The Essentials ends at 6th level, which I hope to end around there. Then I'll have my other Campaign pretty much set at least the first part. I am also currently working on the backdrop for the homebrew and hopefully with your guys background additions I can help craft a more interesting and eager story, to weave your backgrounds into something cool and far-reaching.
Like I said this is an attempt at me getting into DMing on here and building a good group to have some fun longlasting adventures.
AS for scheduling well I am a night worker and work 5 days a week currently with a second job on the weekends that works me Saturday days. I get off my primary job at 11 pm CST, My Saturday job is during the day and is random with the hours but I am off by 5 pm. Sundays are pretty much open unless things come up.
So I usually will post about once a day, maybe more if I have time. Here in a week or two I hope to be rid of my second job and have maybe a set time to have more rapid posts on Saturdays or Sundays.
AS for the players posting rate at least once a day. I'm not a big stickler on posts per day unless you have a current active role or you know its combat. Otherwise I am pretty mellow.
Feel free to throw out more questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can.

Hi, this is Virtual Tao's submission!
(and wow, after a ton of PG, SCAG and XGE reading I have to say I'm really impressed with 5E!)
parents: 1d100 ⇒ 4 You know who your parents are or were
tiefling parents: 1d8 ⇒ 7 One parent was a tiefling and the other was a devil
birthplace: 1d100 ⇒ 68 Barn, shed, or other outbuilding
siblings: 1d10 ⇒ 1 None
family: 1d100 ⇒ 4 Orphanage
absent parent father: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Disappeared to an unknown fate
absent parent mother: 1d4 ⇒ 3 Parent abandoned you
family lifestyle: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) = 7 Poor (-10)
childhood home: 1d100 - 10 ⇒ (70) - 10 = 60 Small House
childhood memories: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) + 3 = 14 I had several friends, and my childhood was generally a happy one
background: 1d6 ⇒ 6 After encountering a Harper, I was
so inspired that I immediately entered their service
class training: 1d6 ⇒ 5 My future patron visited me in my dreams and offered great power in exchange for my service.
life events at age 25: 1d4 ⇒ 1
event: 1d100 ⇒ 72 You met someone important. Use the supplemental tables to determine this character's identity and
how this individual feels about you.
class: 1d100 ⇒ 61 paladin
race: 1d100 ⇒ 93 tiefling
status: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) = 4 alive and well
relationship: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) = 5 friendly
personality: 1d8 ⇒ 6 I am tolerant of other factions and respect they work towards other goals
personality: 1d8 ⇒ 7 Having enjoyed something of the fine life whilst moving amongst the Harper elite, rough living now grates on me.
ideal: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Aspiration: I seek to prove myself worty of the Harpers by matching my actions to their ethos.
bond: 1d6 ⇒ 2 I will someday get revenge on the society that cast me out and branded me as evil
flaw: 1d6 ⇒ 4 I am somewhat inflexible in my thinking
The rolls were really useful in getting the creative ball rolling!
Given the rolls and as there seem to be many half-elves already present, decided to do something different to the original bladesinger concept I had and so have gone with a Tiefling Warlock (Hexblade) instead.
So party role would be melee in combat and face out of combat.

Loraas |

Hey GM,
This Fabian's wood-elf druid PC. His stats are in the alias (I may change that pic).
Loraas is past his prime and he knows it. His body is thin but wiry, his skin sun-kissed by many years of living outdoors. He normally carries a short bow and long, skinning knife (shortsword), and is dressed for outdoor travel.
The elf left his village once a new druid was trained and has wandered the wilds for some time. He is partial to small rural communities and people living off the land (hunters, loggers, trappers, etc.) as long as they respect the land that feeds them. To those hardy people, he offers his services (mending, cure wounds, general advice on the land, etc.) in exchange for company, a warm place to stay, and a home-cooked meal.
The elf speaks slowly and is slow to anger. He has seen many things and is not prone to making rash decisions. He is often seen talking to his pet rat as if expecting the animal to speak back to him.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Game on!
