Though a tech-savvy weasel person wouldn’t be completely out of place here, this particular tech-savvy space weasel certainly is.

Lol! I'm waiting for his reply of: "I'm Batman." in a deep, roughish voice. :)

Ralrae Arkmir |

I'm a tired new parent without enough sleep to notice when my default avatar doesn't match the game I'm in, of course.... If I were Batman I wouldn't need to work ;)
Apologies for the mixup there.

GM Coyote |

Work and holidays have been incredibly hectic. I’m going to be traveling internationally tomorrow morning, and plan to update by the 28th at the latest.

Javell DeLeon |

I know this is metagamey, but, seeing how the robot didn't roll an attack roll, I really don't get why you're shooting at it, Sprig. I mean let's be real here, if the DM doesn't roll an attack roll, the NPC isn't attacking.
I like this robot thing. It's cool. It's a fun challenge trying to figure out what it's trying to say and figuring out how we can possibly fix it.
And if it goes rogue and attacks us, then, we respond accordingly. But the reason Casey's totally unconcerned about it is because:
1. It hasn't attacked already and
2. Casey's got 5 other people backing him up.
It's 6 against 1 so he feels confident. And if you want to roll into metagamey bit again, it's 6 against 1! And the 1 is not a dragon or anything as magnificent as that so that would be quite a pointless combat.
Just sayin', bud.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Sprig thought it was threatening you and decided to shoot first. The way he sees it, it's better to fire first than to let it hurt you guys.
Though I suppose we can roll back a bit if the GM allows it and Sprig will continue his dinner scene.

Ralrae Arkmir |

Eh. Still being metagamey here... Sprigs shot is unlikely to actually kill the thing. I'd say roll with it. That's the joy of tabletop over other game types for me - you roll with things that come up and play free-form, without "save states". I'm fine either way, but I completely understood Sprig's in-character skittishness leading to firing first when startled.

Brindle Ghostfur |

I’m for rolling with it. Sprig did what Sprig did - he’s possibly a little scairt and mighty ready to end trouble quick-like.

Javell DeLeon |

The way I see it, it just reminds me too much of "Hey it's a bad guy(or whatever) that's doing something weird, let's kill it." Just starts to feel like a video game then. That to me just isn't fun.
This robot is a challenge due to the fact we can't quite figure it out and we have to work for it to try and do so is fun.
And I'd wager the shot probably would destroy it. You've got the crit to account for and on top of that it's already damaged. I'd be surprised if it doesn't wind up in pieces.
Anyhow, not really into to shooting everything that moves wrong. I do like story line as well and found this interesting. But that's just me. *shrugs*

Sprig Snaggletooth |

It is a critical threat, sure, but I don't think I rolled high enough to confirm. A pistol only has a range of 20ft and resolves against normal AC beyond that. The machine-man was pretty much a suit of plate, right?
Either way, there's several outcomes here.
1. It breaks down.
2. It's too broken to notice it was shot.
3. It notices it's been shot and tries to get away.
4. It notices it's been shot and tries to kill us.
Honestly, I thought the "loud and menacing" blaring was an indication that we were about to be under attack and Sprig was more than skittish enough to shoot first.
Even if it does break down, we're not stranded out of the storyline. We're might be able to salvage something from the body and get it repaired at an expert in Exchange or maybe even Payday. At least to me, this seemed like something we were supposed to come back to later with more knowledge anyway. We might have placed a rock in the current, but it flows around in new and exciting directions!

Saraon Duskdragon |

I mean, kobolds DO spook easily, it's in character for Sprig. I mean, honestly, we aren't even sure if this robot's important. Coyote might have just put it in as one-off worldbuilding encounter we just latched on to assuming it was something more.
I'm sorry I was kind of more quiet recently. Had some more holiday parties I was involved with and I'm back to work again.

GM Coyote |

To be completely clear, it was mainly a worldbuilding encounter. I was planning on having a fight with the bot when any sort of sustained interaction happened.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Thanks again for the save, Saraon!
I admit a scrawny kobold trying to seduce a woman three times his size just tickles me so much I couldn't resist (whether he succeeds or not). But, I think it was probably not a great time to do it and maybe a bit out of character. But I think we've turned it into something interesting, let's find what secrets this town holds.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

The way I see it, the bandits must have found something that lead them to the Iron Tree. They might have pawned off a few things at the store, lost something or maybe just spilled the beans to the saloon's girls. Getting our hands on what we can might be important.
And maybe, just maybe, we can plan a heist!

Brindle Ghostfur |

@Coyote: is the Bandit King an actual divinity or just such a badass warlord with the literal and figurative power over life, law and death that the peons in Payday attribute him with divine omnipotence?

GM Coyote |

Unfortunately, I recently heard from Casey that he’ll be leaving the game. The character wasn’t working out as he would’ve wanted it, and he didn’t have inspiration for a replacement.
I’ll work up a send-off post later today or tomorrow.

Brindle Ghostfur |

Sorry to see you go Casey/Javell. I thought Casey was an awesome fit for the genre, and I’m sorry if Brindle was problematic for your enjoyment of the game.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Alright, with Casey gone and Ralrae rather occupied (Good luck Ralrae!) Should we start looking for new blood?
I can ask around in some of my other games if anyone's interested, or the old recruitment thread. We can always start a new one too.
I'm ok with going on as is, but I figure we discuss!

Ralrae Arkmir |

I am definitely still interested and not walking away from the game at all, though as Sprig says I do have other things going on in life at the moment (lots of crying, for example) that cause me to occasionally miss new posts / the need for Ralrae to post, and my apologies for that - I'm trying not to disrupt the rhythm of posts.

GM Coyote |

I think for now I’m fine to continue as is. If it really does become a problem, I’ll start looking, but for now we’re all good.

GM Coyote |

You can buy pretty much any mundane equipment. There’s also the small selection of tech items, which you’ll have to ask about.

Ralrae Arkmir |

Stuff like this: Tech Items D20PFSRD, or is there a different tech list?

Aw shucks! That there picture is purtier than a lil red wagon goin up a hill!*
Honestly, that is one talented illustrator! And I’m glad Brindle has managed to cozy up close to your hearts. It’s all she wants in life...
Secret squirrel: Brindle is based on my real life rescue pet German Shepherd/Husky who has the brindle markings of a dutch shepherd - dutch shepherds general markings are listed as “brindle, gold brindle, silver brindle, salt and pepper, gray brindle....” and who apparently “ were used by shepherds and farmers who needed a versatile dog, with few demands, and a dog that was able to adapt to a harsh and meager existence”.
Although my woof is not nearly experiencing a harsh or meager existence, she does seem to be very cat-like.
*This line shamelessly stolen from an old Garfield strip where Jon visits his country relations. Ahm shure Sprig wouldn’t object mightily...

GM Coyote |

Neat! That’s some cool character art.

[Per Sprig:]
Holds up a flute. ”An this little baby...well...it’s fer pickin’ the lint outta yer musket bore. Yup, that’s what it does. [Looks inside it and holds it at arms length] Mhmm. The air holes prevent it from gettin stuck on th’ way out.”
Inspects a bar of soap, sniffs it. Ah, now this...this yew break up inta itty bitty pieces and sprinkle round yer campsite to deter vermin. They caint stand the odour and keep raht away...”

Sprig Snaggletooth |

While Sprig was never a slave, kobolds, being cowardly and naturally talented at mining are rather valuable slaves. Their tendency to bow to superior force certainly makes them easy pickings for mineral-hungry elitists. *cough*dwarves*cough*
Gnolls probably wouldn't find kobolds that useful though.

Brindle Ghostfur |

Though if memory serves, the old ADnD entry on gnolls mentions slavery to undertake particular jobs gnolls aren’t interested in doing themselves, mining being chief among them...
