GM Coyote |

Good to see you folks! Once Polyfrequencies has their alias up we can jump into things. I’m thinking the party can meet the new arrivals in Exchange unless anyone has objections/other ways they’d like to be introduced.
Some kind of connection between Hezekh and the folks from High Gulch (Saraon, Bas, and Sprig) could also be interesting to think about.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Now that Sprig's research has borne fruit, He'd like to meet the Halcyon Circle and learn about growing plants, as well as solve any possible problems that might prevent such things. I was originally looking into growing a Leshy as well, but that might be a bit farther out (how are the nature spirits doing?)
There's no reason not to resupply and gather information at Exchange though, especially since we promised to send the other caravan to Glowing Springs. At the very least stopping by the post office or what passes for such.

GM Coyote |

That can be arranged! I’ve marked the headquarters (if such a term can be applied to a druidic circle) of the Halcyon Circle on the map. It’s known as the Glade, and it’s up to the north along the Serpent’s Spine.

GM Coyote |

Ack! Glad you’re back and okay.

GM Coyote |

Hey folks, I’ll be out of town til Monday on a camping trip.

Saraon Duskdragon |

I just realized I never leveled Saraon up! GAH!
On a not quite unrelated note, how does retraining work for feats? Can you do it every level up, or only on levels you also get a feat on?

Saraon Duskdragon |

This has to be the fastest you've gotten us to like an NPC, GM! :P
Seriously, I've only known Gog for a few posts but if anything happened to him I'd kill everyone in this thread and then myself!

GM Coyote |

In part it’s because my new job gives me a lot more time to post…I also just like writing Gog’s dialogue a lot.

GM Coyote |

I’ve added a second slide onto the map of the Barrens, it’s roughly what I imagine Gog looking like.

Saraon Duskdragon |

My folks are going next month!
GM, I don't think I got an answer to that question: when retraining feats, can you do it any time you level up, or just on levels where you would also get a feat?

Ronan Del'Arte |

I haven't been to one of the Disney parks in over a decade, but I remember loving Disney World, yes even as an adult!
I should formally post my daily spell selections. I should have those chosen by the end of the day.

GM Coyote |

Slipped my mind to answer, I'll let you retrain 1 feat per level, if that sounds fair to you?

Saraon Duskdragon |

So leveling up now I'd be able to retrain one feat, right? It may take a little time for this to come online if I'm trying to wield that fire sword...unless someone else wants it? What are its stats, anyway?

GM Coyote |

It basically counts as a masterwork longsword that gets an extra d4 fire damage.

Ronan Del'Arte |

I'm sorry if anyone is waiting for me. I'll just stick with my current spell list and hope it's sufficient.

GM Coyote |

I was just generally waiting for any other prepping, but it seems like y'all are good to go! I'll move us along today.

Ronan Del'Arte |

On second thought, I have changed my mind!
If anything, I need to switch out Endure Elements, Entangle, and Call Lightning since we're inside and none of those will be useful.
Instead of those, I'll grab Barbed Chains, Obscuring Mist, and Bestow Curse. Eventually, my mystic past life will pop up some Irradiate, but not today.
Also, next time we're traveling, please someone remind me to spend my Level 1 spell slots on Goodberry so that we have some free healing stocked up.
So my spell list today is:
3rd – bestow curse, daylight (S), summon ancestral guardian
2nd – barkskin, hypnotic pattern (S), insect scouts, spiritual weapon
1st – barbed chains (2), bless (2), burning hands, color spray (S)
0th – create water, detect magic, guidance, light
Gonna go use those insect scouts...

Saraon Duskdragon |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Everybody! IT'S TIME!

Ronan Del'Arte |

My god this spider makes me so sad. I want to help the spider. Can we help the spider?

Ronan Del'Arte |

Anyone else going to roll initiative?

Ronan Del'Arte |

It's been about a week and only half the party has rolled Initiative. GM, could you please roll for Bas, Sararon, and Sprig so that we can determine who has a chance to go before the spider?

Ronan Del'Arte |

You can perform a coup de grace with a ranged weapon as long as you are adjacent to the target.

Hezekh Ironfist |

Hey folks. I’ve recently gone back to school, flight school. I’m hoping to be an airline pilot in a few years. I knew it would take a lot of commitment, but now that it’s underway I realize the commitment is going to be significantly more than I even realized. As much as I enjoy it, I’m not going to have time for gaming for a while. Maybe I can come back in a year or so when I’m done training and just trying to build up my hours. (I’m not asking you to hold a spot for me, to be clear), but for now I have to step away. It’s been fun, and I’ll miss it, but real life has to come first. I want this career, and in the short term that’s going to require some sacrifices. Hope I see y’all around some time. Best of luck, and happy gaming.

GM Coyote |

Sorry to see you go, and good luck!

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Good luck with the Flight school Hezekh!
I've had similar feelings given how my life is turning out, but for the time being I'll be sticking it out. This is the only game I'm playing and hopefully I can keep it up. I'm probably done for a while after this though.

GM Coyote |

Sprig’s idea to just shut the door reminded me of this comic.

Ronan Del'Arte |

That's amazing.
A few years ago I was playing through a game of Star Wars Saga Edition (Dawn of Defiance) where we were meeting with a client that was on the run from the Imperials. The Imperials burst into the bar, and we started our inevitable shoot-out but decided to make it a running shoot-out. We kept going through doors into the alleyway while my Scoundrel tried to jam the doors behind him. This cued up several rounds of combat that included the enemy using their turn to move up to a door and open it, only for that to trigger our readied action on the other side to close it.
Shenanigans.

Ronan Del'Arte |

If i can crit and sneak attack
Unlike in 3.5, undead are not immune to crits and sneak attack by default.
However, the bardiche is a reach weapon, so Bas can't use it to attack an adjacent creature...
A reach weapon is a melee weapon that allows its wielder to strike at targets that aren’t adjacent to him. Most reach weapons double the wielder’s natural reach, meaning that a typical Small or Medium wielder of such a weapon can attack a creature 10 feet away, but not a creature in an adjacent square.
There is a fighter archetype (polearm master) that lets you change your grip to attack adjacent foes. The feat weapon trick (for polearms) allows a similar maneuver. But those are just about the only RAW ways (aside from GM fiat) to attack adjacent foes with a reach weapon.
Finally, if you fail the Acrobatics check to move through a threatened square, you lose the movement action.
If you attempt to move through an enemy’s space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity.
So you're probably not in the room, are not flanking, and can't use the bardiche to attack. You might need to fall back on your brass knuckles or dagger instead while we're in close quarters.
Also, it looks like Saraon and Bas are both still using their level 4 character sheets. We have been level 5 since June when I joined.

GM Coyote |

That is unfortunately the case with the acrobatics. Bas could make another one as a second move action, but otherwise he couldn't get through.

GM Coyote |

I’ll move us along later today.

Sprig Snaggletooth |

Ronan, I'm not sure Evil Eye will work on the Rust Risen, undead are typically immune to mind-affecting effects.
We're in a pretty bad spot, hopefully Shifting Sand works so we can shuffle ourselves to better positioning.

Ronan Del'Arte |

Then Ronan did a bone-headed thing! That's fine, I'll switch tactics next round when it fails.
