GM Coyote |
Hey folks, Hezekh just let me know he's got the time to come back to the game! Would you all prefer he charge into the room to help with this fight, or wait until Davin's dead for him to come back?
Ronan Del'Arte |
I'd love to welcome him back in, even if it means that you re-balance the fight to add in another rust-risen or two. It might help narratively if we retcon an explanation of where he disappeared to while we explored the complex.
GM Coyote |
I’m thinking he went to keep watch outside. Good way to easily bring him back in.
GM Coyote |
So sorry for the delay, been pretty under the weather lately. Things are starting to get better so hopefully I’ll update sometime today or tomorrow.
Ronan Del'Arte |
Both my mental and physical states have been up and down for a while, so I fully understand. Take your time to be well especially, and cheers!
GM Coyote |
I noticed that...thought it was just the stat line, but glad you caught it!
Saraon Duskdragon |
Okay, I'm kinda dumb: I've never used Auto Bonus Progression before, and so in addition to being underleveled I never took that into account either.
What exactly do I need to do to get Saraon up to scratch?
Sprig Snaggletooth |
Right Now you with Automatic Bonus Progression We have:
One Armor you choose is a +1 for you. (Sprig's Clothes in my case)
One weapon you choose is a +1 for you. (Sprig's Pistol)
+1 Deflection bonus to AC (counts against Touch Attacks)
+1 Resistance bonus to All Saves
+2 Enhancement Bonus to a Mental score (Int/Wis/Cha) (Int for Sprig)
You can change whatever Armor or weapon you're attuned to once a day.
Next level (7) is a +2 to a Physical Score
It's probably best to choose your most important Score to get the boost as by the end we'll have +6/+4/+2 to our choice of scores with the Biggest bonus going to your first pick.
Ronan Del'Arte |
The rules for ABP in general are described here. By Level 6, you have the following bonuses:
Basically, you now have the equivalent of +1 armor, a +1 ring of deflection, a +2 headband of [mental ability score], a +1 cloak of resistance, and a +1 weapon. You didn't have to spend any gold on any of this--it's just part of your development as a character.
Better yet, you can equip other rings, headbands, belts, and neck/shoulder slot items instead of feeling like you need to default to the Big Seven.
Sprig Snaggletooth |
It's been a big reason why I've been spending our money on things like trade goods, Hiring NPCs and rebuilding infrastructure. We don't really need money to stay relevant!
GM Coyote |
All good! I've just started a new job too that has me working longer days than I'm used to. Super fun though, got to spend all day today tearing along some old Forest Service roads on an ATV...and getting paid for it!
GM Coyote |
You can sure spend it here.
Hezekh Ironfist |
Gm, how do you feel about the scaling item rules from Pathfinder unchained? I ran across the Galvanic Gauntlets on this page (you may need to ctrl+f, not sure why they don't have their own entry) almost by accident, but they look like something Hezekh could have fun with, if I can find a set around here. I'll confess to not quite understanding the variable pricing element of them myself, but I think I have the money for them, if I'm reading the chart right.
GM Coyote |
I’ve also had a hard time understanding how they work, but if you think you have it sorted and have the money they look fine by me. I’m going to add the caveat that I won’t let the touch attack portion of them work alongside spell strike, if that seems fair. I can explain my reasoning if not.
Ronan Del'Arte |
Scaling Items are interesting. After Unchained came out, Paizo started experimenting a bit more with items like this. They really came into their own with the Relics in War for the Crown and Tyrant's Grasp. In both of those APs, the relics scaled with the PCs as they accomplished specific goals. The key with the relics is that they were found rather than purchased and could not be sold.
The bit on Adapting Scaling Items on the final linked page could be useful.
So while Hezekh won't be selling the galvanic gauntlets (we hope), it might be worth figuring out whether there will be any costs associated with upgrading them every other level (i.e., 15% of Hezekh's WBL) or whether he'll eventually have an item worth 36,604 gp for only the original cost of 1,882 gp.
---
I have been trawling through the wondrous items to figure out if there's anything Ronan wants now or if he's saving up for a bigger purchase down the line. Is there a base value for the settlement, and should we roll a d100 to see if specific items are available?
Ronan Del'Arte |
So Ronan is looking for a Lore Needle, which will eventually allow him to use his Knowledge (Engineering) on any knowledge skill in which he is trained up to three times a day. It seems on brand.
He's also looking for Goggles of Minute Seeing, which also seem like that wonderful blurry line between magic and sufficiently advanced technology.
It comes out to a total of 6500, so if I could borrow against my future share, I'd love that.
And if I need to roll for them, here goes:
Lore Needle: 1d100 ⇒ 97
Goggles of Minute Seeing: 1d100 ⇒ 91
GM Coyote |
Both of those are good to go.
I have a few ideas for how to approach the gauntlets. One possibility is just upgrading through money. The other idea is that Hezekh could choose to sacrifice ABP features at those levels to get the upgrades for free.
Hezekh Ironfist |
I think I'd be more inclined to pay money to upgrade it over time. that it effectively gives Shocking on my Golem Arm at 9th and Shocking Burst at 13th is most of the appeal. If I was, for example, trading +1 of weapon attunement at those levels, it'd defeat the purpose.
GM Coyote |
That sounds good to me.
Ronan Del'Arte |
Welcome back! Did you see the Bean?
(I mostly insist on calling it the Bean because Anish Kapoor is a jerkface and any attempt to make him mad while still enjoying his art makes me happy.)
Saraon Duskdragon |
We didn't have time for the Bean unfortunately: one, there was an event going on in the park so we weren't sure if we needed tickets or something, and two, we had reservations for The Berghoff that evening and we were walking there, so we had to get going.
So to clarify, EACH of us has 6,000 to spend on stuff? I'm...not sure what to do with that. Given the Automatic Bonus Progression is to mitigate use of the standard items one might buy like magic weapons and the big six, I'm not sure what I'd buy...
GM Coyote |
Fair! I mostly wanted to give you folks the option to pick up some interesting magic items that you might not otherwise get to use without ABP.
Ronan Del'Arte |
Oooh, I've never been to the Berghoff! I'll have to try that one of the next times I get up to Chicago. (I'm only about 3 hours away.)
I can recommend some great items for druids!
Some of my go-tos are more for abilities that you don't have as a halcyon druid (animal companion: circlet of speaking, dire collar; and wild shape: druid's vestment, polymorphic pouch, ring of eloquence), but I still have some goodies!
Then for half-elves, there's:
Of course, if there's a specific bonus you're looking for, I'd recommend perusing either Greatest Grab for the Gold or The Armamentarium. They're both helpful resources that can cut down massively on time spent shopping around.
GM Coyote |
My new job has been kicking me in the behind. 10 hour field days under the hot prairie sun take a lot out of someone. I’ll update tomorrow!
Ronan Del'Arte |
This beast is a genthodaemon, a personification of death in pointless war and the despair of bloody, brutal stalemates, a being of malice and bloodshed and hate for all things, especially itself.
The ritual required murder by another, almost certainly, to pull the genthodaemon from the Far Reaches where it's dark masters used it as part of whatever cruel games they play.
Awesome. Given the rules on IDing monsters:
You can use this skill to identify monsters and their special powers or vulnerabilities. In general, the DC of such a check equals 10 + the monster’s CR. For common monsters, such as goblins, the DC of this check equals 5 + the monster’s CR. For particularly rare monsters, such as the tarrasque, the DC of this check equals 15 + the monster’s CR, or more. A successful check allows you to remember a bit of useful information about that monster. For every 5 points by which your check result exceeds the DC, you recall another piece of useful information. Many of the Knowledge skills have specific uses as noted on the below table.
How many questions do I get about the genthodaemon with a 25? Or can I just get 2-4 (I hope at least 2) useful bits of information?
GM Coyote |
Alright, you’d know they have DR/5 bypassed by good or silver, resistance to most common elements, as well as an aura that causes all critical hits to be confirmed inside it, barbed wire that deals damage to people attacking it with non reach weapons, and the ability to break off pieces of shrapnel to launch at enemies or into foes they critically hit.
GM Coyote |
Work’s been absolutely putting me through the ringer lately. Our new project is somehow even harder than our last one! That said, I hope to update sometime this week and am on track to finish work next week, so I should be able to get back to a better posting rate.
GM Coyote |
I’m finishing up my last few days of my summer job and getting packed and ready to make the long drive home to California. I might be able to get a post up in the next few days, but Tuesday or Wednesday is most likely.
GM Coyote |
Finally home after a long drive full of mishaps. I should be able to move us along today.
GM Coyote |
Thanks! My van's back tires decided they did not want to stay on the van, so for each of the two days I was driving for a different tire just...fell off. Both times I was near a town, so it wasn't as bad as it could've been, but it was still hectic and a huge pain in the ass.
