Feel free to make any purchases you would like while you are in town. You have earned the adventurer's discount, meaning that you receive a flat 5% discount off the price of all items and services purchased in Breachill. I'll move things along to Guardian's Way.

Don't forget to level up to 3 if you haven't done so yet!

Everybody has gained another Hero Point. You should each now have 3 unless you have spent some previously.

@DM Brainiac - looking at the battle map now. Can I just check that I've understood: Pril and GP saw three half-orcs on the platform at C2, with a half-orc archer at C3 and another one at C5, is that right?

Yes that is correct. I will add their icons tomorrow.

Male Medium Human Wizard 7 | HP: 63/63 | AC: 23/23 | F: +12, R: +14, W: +12| Lore +13, Per +10, Init +12, Nature/Society +13 | Speed 25ft | Focus 1/1 | Active Conditions:

LEVEL TWO TO THREE
General Feat: Improved Initiative
Skill Increase: Arcana (Trained to Expert)
+2 spells known: Dispel Magic, Summon Elemental
+2 lvl2 spells per day
+8 HP
+5 HP Familiar

Yay. I can summon mephits now!

So what is your plan?

Game Concluded

Unless she's overruled, Pril will have the group wait until nightfall and see what effect that has upon how many guards are stationed and alert.

They're half-orcs, aren't they? Darkness might work for them better than us.

Slightly concerned that none of Ervan, Lucius, Nell or GP have posted in gameplay for several days now. Have we lost momentum?

Game Concluded

Most of the games I've been in have been slow the last few days. Perhaps the holiday? Although I know that GP and Nell have had things keeping them busy lately.

Sorry. Just don't feel like ice had much to contribute and stillrecovering from unwellness so haven't had the oomph to sit down and get Lucius levelled. PF2 still hasn't gripped me so far...

Half-Elf Fighter 2 | HP 24/32 | AC 19 | Fort +8 Ref +8 Will +4 | Perc +6 Low Light Vision | Speed 30

Just checking in to apologize and say I’m still here. Going through some big stuff IRL right now, including helping move my family out of state, so I’ve been very mentally and emotionally drained with little time to catch up here. I’ll level up soon and check in when I can, but will most likely be absent for another week or two.

Just assume Nell is like, in the corner taking notes most of the time. ;)

Thanks for checking in. I'll bot you and Gull Peeper until you return.

I've added the half-orcs to the map. Note all are sleeping except the female one on the central platform.

Alright, so I'll assume Gull Peeper will join Pril to try to sneak up on the sentry. Note that half-orcs now only have low-light vision by default, not darkvision, so you have a decent shot at success. I'll post later this morning, but if Pril is on earlier, she can roll her Stealth check.

Game Concluded

You beat me by about five minutes. ;)

I forgot to add the bonus for Pril's incredible initiative. That puts her ahead of the hobgoblin so she may act again now. Lucius is up too.

And he calls me the Drama Queen.

sigh

You both love it, so stop whining :P

Especially in a thread that isn't even connected to that game

points at Lucius defensively

Since my none of my other characters are suffering tonight I've had some time.

Lucius level 3.

+1 to level stuff.
Expert fort (domain) and ref (feat).
Level 2 spells.
Better healing.

What spells should I be prepping for a night attack? Got Bless x2 and Magic Weapon for Level 1, any thoughts for Level 2?

That tells me that I'm not living up to my potential.

Have to do something about that. ;)

Edited: dispel magic is always a winner. Particularly when going up against a spellcaster. :)

Can't wait to see what they do with the oracle.

Think we're waiting on a response from Allandir, or failing that, a decision on which way to go.

Sorry. Work has killed me. Bot as needed.

Game Concluded

"Not kill you, Sir, never kill you."

Need Ervan's actions!

Allandir and Gull Peeper are up. I will bot on Monday if they haven't posted by then.

Allandir, if Bruynarth moves, the skeleton will take an attack of opportunity on him. Still want to proceed?

Just out of interest: Lucien/Ervan, what are your spell DCs? Somewhat lower than 23, I'm guessing?

Game Concluded

Yeah, that's a serious DC. :O

With a spellcasting modifier of +4, their spell DCs at level 3 should be 19. Enemies scale differently.

Thought I posted here, sorry to see that I hadn't. Been gone helping the in laws move up north, back and ready now; will catch up on reading and post in the next couple days. Thanks for the patience.

I'd noticed that. I would guess that Voz's saves are at least +9, in which case she would have a 50% or better chance of making her save against the party's spell DC of 19.

There's a lot that I like about PF2, but some of it - especially the numbers - really does feel like it was hastily scrawled on the back of a cigarette pack in the pub 1 day before the printing deadline.

Voz is also a level 5 creature, so her numbers are higher than a creature of your level. This is a tough fight.

Male Medium Human Wizard 7 | HP: 63/63 | AC: 23/23 | F: +12, R: +14, W: +12| Lore +13, Per +10, Init +12, Nature/Society +13 | Speed 25ft | Focus 1/1 | Active Conditions:

It makes sense to me that a tough boss would require throws of 14-15+ when buffs aren't taken into account. Since these are no longer 'save or die' throws, and you get to save again every turn, I can definitely see where the game designers are coming from.

Applying Frightened reduces the enemy's DCs, so having one or more characters with a decent Intimidation check goes a long way to bring down the enemy's effectiveness.

ps - hero points, they're a thing, and I keep forgetting about them -_-

Oh yes, hero points can definitely help swing things back towards the PCs' favor.

Ervan, I see where you're coming from but I remain unconvinced by the numbers. At our level, the absolute maximum Will save you can get is 11 (3rd level + 4 Expert + 4 Wis). Even someone with that maximum will save would need a 12 to save vs DC 23, meaning they will fail more than half the time. I can't help thinking that is wrong, because it means that even the most competent PC in a particular field (in this case, Will saves) is utterly dependent on a coin-toss.

And buffs are nice, but they don't stack as well in PF2 and they're mostly limited to +1 (note e.g. that the Inspire Courage bard ability doesn't scale with level any more: it's a flat +1 whether you're at level 1 or level 20).

I get that this is a CR 5 challenge, but I still think the numbers are hinky across PF2 as a whole. I know this is a roll-play game as well as role-play, but I would have made the odds a little better for the PCs*. The game designers seem to think that making even the most optimised Will-save PC fail a Will save more than half the time equals a "challenging" game. It strikes me as a game that is just going to frustrate people.

Which is annoying, because there's a LOT about PF2 that I really like.

*and I say that as someone who wears a DM hat quite often, too. There are better ways to challenge players than saying "at least half your dice rolls are going to fail, ha ha"

Still need Lucius's actions.

I will bot Lucius if he hasn't posted by tomorrow morning.

Monk 4

Class Feat:
Wholeness of body

Skill Feat:
Skill Training (Nature)

And skills all go up.

I think we discussed this, but I'll ask again.

Regarding the Feat, Animal Companion, would that work with one of the Worg Puppies?

Yes, you are nearing the end of this adventure. Once it is complete you can take a few months of downtime, during which time the puppies will grow large enough to be taken as companions.

Game Concluded

... or perhaps even as a steed? :) :)

... for us small folk.

Once you get high enough level to get the wargs to Medium size, then you can ride on one. :)

Ze new errata. Haven't read it yet, but saw a post about it on Reddit and figured I'd share it with you lovely people.

Will try and get my leveling up done later today!

Level 4

+10 hit points

+1 to everything

Class Feat (Companion's Cry)

Skill Feat (Natural Medicine)

and done?

Male Medium Human Wizard 7 | HP: 63/63 | AC: 23/23 | F: +12, R: +14, W: +12| Lore +13, Per +10, Init +12, Nature/Society +13 | Speed 25ft | Focus 1/1 | Active Conditions:

LEVEL THREE TO FOUR
Skill Feat: Recognize Spell (Arcana)
Wizard Feat: Counterspell
+2 spells known: Resist Energy, Comprehend Language
+1 lvl2 spell per day
+8 HP
+5 HP Familiar

Counterspell and Recognize Spell seem to be at odds with one another, as both cost you your reaction. It seems to be that way by design and it isn't until level 7 that I can recognize arcane spells as a swift action, so I know what I'm actually dispelling :')

If nobody else wants to do anything in town at this time, I'll move things along. Allandir and Pril can continue backposting their date night via spoilers.
