@DM Brainiac: what skill is it to identify these corpse-carrying turtles?

It is Nature.

Still need Ervan's actions!

Raising the pups requires a successful DC 16 Diplomacy check each day, and does not count as a downtime activity. After 10 successful checks, the warg puppies’ attitude toward a PC becomes friendly, and the creatures will follow a range of commands. The DC of this Diplomacy check is reduced to 14 for PCs with the Train Animal general feat, because the puppies are somewhere between a person and an animal in intelligence.

Two questions

1) Can I use Nature instead of Diplomacy? I have one but not the other, as you may have noticed ;)

2) Can I take one as an animal companion? I'm happy to use the wolf template and not the bestiary entry!

Yes and yes!

Because it makes so much sense in the symmetry of it.

Two warg puppies.

Twin dhampirs.

*shrug* :) :)

Oh, and Pril wants the warg bestiary entry. :)

A warg makes for so much more impressive of a mount, don't you think? :) :)

Alessandra Filosovici! Look me in the eye and tell me how long your previous pet lasted. Was it even a week?

That AP is no place for poor dumb animals. And before either you say "well Ellie's doing ok," she's in single digit hitpoints herself...so she really isn't.

That's because we got split up! You know Allie wouldn't let her Pet get that hurt if she was there to stop it!

Lucius: any chance that you could put a reminder on what your spells do in your posts? I'm still too used to the PF1 versions and it would save me a lot of swearing and fumbling around with the rulebooks.

Magic Weapon: The weapon glimmers with magic and energy. The target becomes a +1 striking weapon, gaining a +1 item bonus to attack rolls and increasing the number of weapon damage dice to two.

Thanks, Allandir. Now all I can picture is the warg with Grand Prince Stavian's face. :P

Bored this morning so I decided to play with numbers:

In this game, so far, Pril has attempted a d20 roll 33 times. That's certainly not a large enough sample to derive any real useful information, but I wanted to confirm what my gut said.

The die roll results have a mean value of 8.45. (10.5 being the norm).
The median value was 7.

A third of those rolls (11) resulted in a 3 or less. :(

There was only one roll that resulted in a 20 - and no 18's or 19's.

It doesn't really mean anything other than I'm not crazy in thinking the dice have been really crappy to her so far. :)

I wonder how the forum generates numbers ... I know plenty of 'random' generators are flawed and not quite as random as you'd want them to be ;o

Female Gnome Monk 2 | HP 19/30 | AC 19 | Fort +7 Ref +9 Will +8 | Perc +6 | Ki 1/1 | Hero 2/3

I'm sure it's not using cryptographic levels of randomness, but probably plenty sufficient for our usage.

I'm just whining. :)

Keep in mind the wargs won't be able to serve as full-fledged companions until they are a bit older. Likely after this first adventure when you take some downtime.

...not to be "that guy" so I promise I'll shut up about it after this, but the PF2E version of Animal Companion does say that you gain the service of a "young" animal.

(Dammit, this is totally the wrong avatar for making puppy-eyes at the DM!)

Uh, yeah. Those don't look like puppy-eyes at all. More like don't-turn-your-back-on-that-guy eyes.

This coming from the avatar with the are-they-talking-about-me? eyes.

...OK. I'm guessing that this scene was probably written as comic relief ("ha ha ha! Look at those wacky, zany, goblins!") - but it really doesn't do it for me.

Taking an animal out of its natural habitat and imprisoning it underground (and then abandoning it) doesn't make them wacky. It doesn't make them zany. It makes them assh0les.

(This isn't a criticism of you btw, Brainiac - I have no doubt you're playing it as-written)

I agree with you. It's perfectly within your rights to be upset about the situation, especially as a ranger. Rescuing and releasing the bear would definitely be the right thing to do.

Male Elf (Woodland) Ranger (Precision) 2 I HP 26/26 I AC 19 I F: +6(E) R: +10(E) W: +5(T) I Perception +7(E), Low-light vision I Speed 35 ft I Conditions: None

Oh, I'll rescue and release it, alright *evil grin*

More seriously, the issue I have is that if this AP is supposed to be the one that makes goblins more... sympathetic, it is going about it in a very odd way.

(And I'm not even going to touch on the racial tropes being evoked here. Suffice to say that Paizo have learned NOTHING from their previous blunders.)

To be fair, all of this might be perfectly normal and acceptable for regular run-of-the-mill murder hobo collectives :')

I'll give the other players time to react to the situation.

Before I post, just want to clarify something in case I misunderstood it.

My reading of DM Brainiac's post is that the goblins chose to capture the bear, and that it was the abandonment of the bear that was done out of need to survive (what with their home being invaded and everything).

My reading of Pril's post seems to suggest that the capture of the bear was out of need/trying to survive. Unless I've misread your post, Pril?

Things are messy enough without my posting on a misunderstanding so I'll hold off for now :)

The goblins lured the bear into their home as a poorly considered attempt to secure a clan mascot. They kept it locked up and fed it for several weeks until they were forced to leave Big Bumble behind when the cultists invaded.

Female Gnome Monk 2 | HP 19/30 | AC 19 | Fort +7 Ref +9 Will +8 | Perc +6 | Ki 1/1 | Hero 2/3

So that's my misunderstanding of it. Sorry. That can translate to Pril not paying enough attention. Feel free to correct her. :)

Level 2

+10 hit points

+1 to EVERYTHING (AC, saves, attacks, skills)

Skill feat: Battle Medicine

Still deciding on Class Feat.

@Brainiac: given that there's a bear handy, would it be ok to do the following?

1) take the animal companion feat now as my second level feat

2) hold off on actually getting a companion until we encounter the bear, at which point it would become my animal companion

3) once the warglets are old enough to be an animal companion, swap the bear (which goes back into the wild) for a warglet

Yes, that works!

Still need actions from Ervan and Gull Peeper. I will bot them if they haven't posted by later today.
