Fire Starters Loot

Jagrur, actually 'Dross's attack hit the cocoon! However, it didn't even scratch (or dent) the cocoon's surface - that thing looks hard! It's still wiggling, though.

Oz, remember you took 7 points of damage from the Uzorg before Choppy got it last round.

Meanwhile, having been tricked and shot, the bird creature, which Oz recognizes as a verimu, squawks and attacks! coming off of delay

Verimu at -5 hp.

It moves, squawking loudly, and tries to jump down to get on Oz's level.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

As Oz watches the verimu land awkwardly and fall, taking 1d6 ⇒ 2 nonlethal damage. He remembers that verimu can peck or kick with their talons as a natural attack. He also remembers that the birds have low light vision and aren't very good at will saves.

There's really nothing remarkable about this creature.

Verimu at -7 hp.

The verimu, slightly shaken, stands up and squawks again at Oz.

BotCroaker, seeing a chance to fire his gun again, blasts away, twice, over the small root at the verimu!

BotCroaker laser rifle shot 1: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 4 = 1
BotCroaker laser rifle shot 2: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 4 = 2

...but, again, misses terribly.

All the PCs are up (except BotCroaker)!

Just then finally the akata breaks out of its cocoon! It snarls and takes a bite at 'Dross.

Being immune to diseases right?, 'Dross does not feel any effects from the akata's void bite.

At this point Charlie's readied action would go off - go ahead and take a shot at the akata.

BotCroaker moves back to the left and takes a shot at the akata. "Surely this time," he says to himself.

Oz's needler takes down the akata with a needle straight into the head. The akata drops!

"And the Starfinders take down their last ingredient! Looks like it's time for our contestants to get into the kitchen and get to work!"

The cameras cut and Quell's stage-voice is replaced by one in a more normal tone.

"Alright, let's get the rest of the meat butchered. Move on over to the kitchen and we'll start the cooking there," he says, flying over the jungle toward the kitchen set on his floating overboard.

Charlie is able to butcher one piece of meat from the verimu. Taking ten is fine, but you get the sense that maybe there's more meat to be had if you can butcher it a little bit more skillfully. You can collectively make two more survival checks to get meat from the akata and uzorg.

At this point, your comm units beep with a list of available ingredients. Perhaps surprisingly, you'll have a full range of ingredients in your kitchen, with some stored in an area accessible by both teams. Odd ingredients are also on the list, like ready-to-eat rations.

After butchering your kills, you make your way over to the kitchen. The enemy team stands on their side of the kitchen, just finishing butchering their kills, which appear to be the same animals you faced earlier. The halfling makes a rude gesture as you approach, while the android waves in what seems like a warm greeting.

"Welcome back!" Lethea's voice sounds over the gathered groups.

"For the cooking part of today's combat cooking challenges, it'll be up to the teams to put away their weapons and put on their chef hats! We expect something extraordinary; it's not often we get the chance to sample food from the living!

At this point, the cooking challenge begins! You'll have the following options you can perform (one per character per dish, so three total over three cooking "rounds") during the cooking competition.

*Prepare meal* (Dexterity, Survival, Profession [artist, cook, herbalist]) This is the skill used to prepare your dishes. If multiple PCs make this check, we go with the highest result.

*Disable cooking range* (Engineering) A quick Engineering check will allow you to disable the other team's cooking range (located directly across from your own cooking range), forcing them to find another source of heat. How annoying! If you can wirelessly hack, add a +4 to this check.

*Knife toss* (Ranged attack roll) Throw a utensil at the other team! That'll definitely be a distraction and deal some damage, too.

*Swap ingredients* (Sleight of Hand) Switch out one of your opponents' appealing ingredients with something bland or gross!

"We're ready for our first dish: verimu. Good luck!" Lethea announces. Quell quips "Already smells delicious."

Croaker moves his whiskers as he smells the meat. He glances at the opponent team saying to the halfling:

"Keep your chubby arms to yourself or I will use you to season our dishes."

He looks at the kitchen and looks for a knife to allow him to do the work.

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

I think I had the highest mod.

As he slices the meat, Croaker weave a tale
"On Akiton when I was a small Ysoki the only person that was allowed to be in the Kitchen was my grandma. A terrifying woman, we suspected she was related to shobhad. Either way, whenever she was not able to cook guess who was doing the cooking for the whole our swarm?"

Hearing the half-ass answer: 'You' he responds:

"No, not me. My cousin, she was as ugly as she was strong and was working her knife like a chef. After she was gone it was my brother Nail and then Ghost, Gray, Lucy, Lily, and a few others. And after that whole bunch, I was in charge of the kitchen. And believe me, it was an achievement..."

As he speaks Croaker slice the bigs portions of meat, throwing out bones and skin to the side. At most, once he grabbed a piece of bone and thrown it at the general direction of the halfling.

"I think she is hitting on me."

Fire Starters Loot

With Charlie's help, Croaker cuts two pieces of meat off of the last animal.

Now we advance to "round" 1 of the cooking challenge. Please select one of the options for what your character is doing this round and make the appropriate roll. Remember for people cooking the best check of the group will count, so there's no need to explicitly assist unless you want to. However the more people that are cooking, the fewer there are to try to sabotage the other team.

"Whoa, things are really heating up!" Quell's voice sounds over the kitchen area. "Looks like the living are ready to kick it up a notch!"

Choppy, Charlie, and Croaker all try their hand at preparing the meal, but things aren't seeming to work out right. The verimu dish comes out particularly mediocre.

Meanwhile, Jagrur tries his hand at distracting the enemy team with a knife thrown across the kitchen. "How would you know? You can't eat!" Quell interjects.

"Teams," Lethea continues. "It's time for round 2: Uzorg! And try to play nice."

Quell sounds off again, "Not too nice! Too nice is boring!"

Fire Starters Loot

As Oz, Charlie, and Jagrur work on preparing the akata dish, Oz and Croaker both notice the other team's pahtra trying to sneak over and switch some of your ingredients out! With a shout, Croaker flings a knife at the intruder. The knife glances off the pahtra, dealing little damage but causing him to scowl and go back to his own side of the split kitchen.

Meanwhile, the cooking team manages to prepare what looks like a delicious meal!

As the cooking competition winds down, the perpetually grinning hosts direct their hovering discs to land near the field kitchen in a coordination motion. The two approach a table set with the contestants' various meals and take a seat. Quell inhales deeplyand speaks into his microphone. "Mmmmm, I smell- Who am I kidding, I can't smell anything."

"Of course you can't. You're dead." Lethea quips.

Quell turns to her in mock surprise. "You can't even hold a fork!" he counters, miming grasping for his utensils. "How do you plan to judge this challenge?"

"This wasn't in the script," Lethea giggles and considers the steaming plates of food before her. "It's not every day we get to sample cuisine cooked by the living."

She turns to the contestants. "Why don't you describe these delectable dishes."

Since the hosts can't judge the dishes by their taste, they're going to have to judge them by how good they sound! Please select a representative to attempt a Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, or Profession (cook) check to present your dishes!

Oz just sighs...this time with feeling, getting visibly exasperated again.

"Of course they don't care." Then to the judges, "all you need to know is that our dishes come from animals that will kill you...us...on their own, and if that doesn't do it alone, the sheer number of spices will do you in afterwards. Do you really need to know anything else?"

Jagrur does a couple of quick blinks...and sees where Oz is going with this.

"Oz is right. The way these items were cooked are dangerous to us 'living' life forms. So, they should be just fine with the undead. I hear that a friend of mine is looking at making a ghost pepper flavored lollipop for ghouls....think of that. That is similar to what we have prepared, things so strong that us weak living creatures would either get sick or die from, but some of the more 'corporeal' of the undead should at least taste something, and likely like the flavor to boot"

Lethea and Quell blink.

"Well, that's... a unique description. Let's try some..."

Quell begins chewing. "Yes, this definitely seems like a dangerous dish. Very good."

Lethea wafts some of the dishes' smell. "Yes, certainly very dangerous. How exciting!"

The other team presents an uzorg and verimu sausage and akata caviar. Lethea dramatically mimes tasting a dish while Quell grimaces as he takes large bites of food before spitting out the contents. Even while trying the other team's dishes, Quell and Lethea both steal a glance back over at Oz and Jagrur.

After trying both sides' dishes, Lethea and Quell briefly confer. After a moment they speak into their microphones.

"Well contestants, we've chosen a winner!" Quell begins. Lethea continues, "The best cooking in this combat cooking challenges came from... the Starfinders!"

"Let's update our point totals! It's a close one so far, folks!" Quell announces.

From behind one of the cooking stations, an electronic scoreboard rises. It displays the following:

Starfinders Round 1: 30; Round 2: 65; Total: 95
Team 2 Round 1: 35; Round 2: 55; Total: 90

"We'll be right back after these messages!" Lethea signs off before dismissing the teams back to their break rooms for another 30 minutes of downtime.

As you return to your break room, a table near the back of the room is laden with an exquisite buffet of food. Mountains of dumplings, a pot full of steaming soup, and a wicker basket piled high with fresh fruit cover the table's surface. A brown ceramic tea kettle rests on a red cloth, surrounded by enough cream colored cups to share a drink.

A stark white ysoki dressed in a well-cut grey business suit hops up from a chair in greeting. She waves an apology as she chews the last bite of an apple she's been snacking on. She sets the core carefully at the edge of the table and speaks.

"Oh hi! It's so nice to finally meet all of you," she says with a cheerful smile. "My name's Datch, and I've been watching your performance. Do you have a moment to chat?"

Datch's portrait is being added to the slides.

Croaker walks out of the kitchen commenting to Oz and Jagrur

"Wow! That was awesome! Who would have thought that Elebrian and Dwarf would be our spokesmen!"

He hit with his furry fist first Oz then Jagrur and then Charlie. Seeing the pain expression on Charlies face Croaker adds:

"Crap! I forgot about your wounds Charlie! We have some time let me patch you up!"

Sorry Revvy should have done it an encounter ago.

He quickly eyes the Ysoki.

Not really waiting for the answer he pulls out his medical bag and tries to help Charlie

Medicine, threat wounds, DC25: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 I am being an optimist here.

"Damn, my paws are still shaking from the emotions. Have a sit Charlie it will take a while."

Ysoki breathes in and out slowly and touches Charlie's wounds with his furry paws. At first, nothing is happening bus soon the wound begins to heal and disappear.

"At other circumstances, I would make a show out of it when I would ask you to sit in some weird pose and chant something while holding herbs. However, I am tired and want to relax a bit."

Using healing touch which takes 10 min and restore 10 HP.

Charlie nods his thanks to Croaker for the healing and goes to the sink to wash of some (most?) of the blood covering not only his fist but some other parts of his body as well.

Turns out not all the blood was from "tenderizing" the opposition.

He then rolls his shoulders and stretches his arm muscles

"Thanks mate, this cooking and roasting surrre is though. I feel betterrrr now"

No problem Croaker. I could have mentioned having hp damage myself as well (but I kinda maybe forgot about the healing touch option a tiny bit there..)

"Wow, thanks for taking the time," Datch smiles, taking another bite of the apple. "I'm here with the studio audience and am a really big fan. That first obstacle course looked like it was tough! What was it like climbing walls and running through all those traps and jumping over the lava? But then you guys really brought it back in the second challenge. I think you might've actually scared the hosts there! What was cooking like that on a live show like?"
