Fire Starters Loot

Round 14!

Charlie, as you approach the door slides open. Before you is a transparent tunnel that opens into a large, domed room with a floor of polished wood planks, providing an easy sprint to the checkered finish line.

"The first Starfinder is approaching the finish line! But they only have seconds to go! Can they make it in time?!" Lethea's voice belts out, as much as it can, from one of the drone's speakers. Two or three more drones have now taken flight to capture your last dash toward the tunnel and finish line from additional angles.

Everyone has all of their actions. Go!

Jagrur hears that the other belt is moving faster, but also it has a trap. Figuring he can with the help of the belt moving so fast jump over the trap he attempts so

The walkway with the trap is moving fast to give you 10ft for every 5 ft correct? If so I believe choppy can move his full 35 feet right past the trap. Move 10ft up to the fast walkway and then move the rest of his speed and end up right on the otherside of the door. Do you agree or am I not understanding the walkway correctly?

Round 14 update

As Charlie sprints to the finish line, out of the floor and walls lasers erupt, trying to blast him just before he reaches the finish line!

laser blast trap: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
laser damage: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) + 1 = 12

Charlie's hit with 12 fire damage as the lasers find their mark! Though scorched, he makes it across the the finish line! A dozen hovering camera drones buzz past, capturing the action from as many angles as possible.

"Our first contestant crosses the finish line!" Lethea's voice booms through the air.

Chuckling, Quell adds "The living never cease to amaze me. But the others still need to get to the end of the course very, very soon! Do you think they can do it?"

Not missing a beat, Lethea responds "Stay tuned to Pact World Warriors to find out! We'll be right back after these messages from our sponsors."

Choppy, that's how the walkway works. Please move yourself to that location to finish your Round 14 actions.

Round 15!

Charlie has successfully crossed the finish line. Everybody else, you're up!

Seeing Charlie running as fast as he can, and getting shot for it, Jagrur wonders if that is a prudent thought. Seeing that both Oz and Croaker are working to figure out where the trap is, Jagrur decides to book it at full dwarven speed.

Yelling, "I'm wasted all this acrobatic non-sense! We dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!"

Fire Starters Loot

BZZZZZZ

"Aaaaand time!" Quell announces as a loud buzzer goes off. "You tried your best, and I can taste that delicious disappointment from those that didn't finish, but don't worry, contestants! It's only round 1!"

A few balloons float down from above the finish line area.

Lethea begins "Let's see how our two teams are doing! For the Starfinders, they received 30 points! And for their opponents, they received 35 points! Folks, it's a close competition as we head into round 2. Stick with us!"

At this point four undead production staff, including a suited ghoul, enter the finish line area to escort you to back up an elevator to a break room. The room has a few couches, chairs, and a small table, but is otherwise empty. The ghoul states you'll have a 30 minute time period to rest, after which time it will be time to start the second round of challenges.

Feel free to do any resting/healing, or anything else you want, in the breakroom in the 30 minutes. For the sake of time I'll continue with the intro to the next challenge.

After about 30 minutes, the suited ghoul returns with a skeletal camera crew to escort you back to the elevator and down toward challenge #2. On the ride down, the ghoul explains "This challenge is called 'Combat Cooking Extravaganza'. There will be two parts: the combat phase, where you will acquire ingredients by defeating and butchering three tagged creatures in the enclosure. The second phase is cooking, during which you'll prepare the slain creatures into delicious dishes in a nearby field kitched along with your opponents. Lethea and Quell will explain further."

The elevator stops and opens to reveal a pristine jungle. Ferns carpet the ground beneath towering trees. Birds and insects flit through shafts of artificial sunlight. Only the transparent green dome 50 feet overhead breaks the illusion of leaving Eox behind for a lush, living world.

Stone walls artfully constructed to look like ancient ruins frame an odd scene: twin kitches complete with stainless steel countertops and electric cooking ranges stand amid the wildnerness. To the west, a clear pool laps gently in the artificial breeze. The opposing team stands nearby, looking like they've just come out of an elevator, too.

"Welcome to the Combat Cooking Extravaganza!" Quell calls from atop a floating metal disc. The disc zooms toward the kitchens as he speaks. "First, our contestants order their live ingredients by taking down three different animals! This isn't as simple as ordering take out at home, folks," Quell smirks as canned laughter plays through speakers.

"I'm afraid not," Lethea calls from an identical disc nearby. "These chefs will be working with fresh, wild-caught ingredients. Contestants, I'll be sending a recipe to your comm units once you take down your last creature. Collect your ingredients, then head to the kitchen to craft us a dish worthy of a Pact World Warrior!"

"But be warned," Quell adds. "This kitchen might be packing more heat than you can handle!"

Let me know what you're doing/did during the break and then we can get this Combat Cooking Extravaganza started!"

Oz will try to see about getting his rope back during the break. If the arena staff won't let him, he will not be kind in word to them about it. Otherwise, he'll keep an eye on any team members who need a rest, in case of unexpected "surprises" for the home audience at the Starfinders' expense.

As the second task is revealed, he'll look around at the team. "Anybody good at cooking anything other than MREs?"

Unfortunately I don't have Life Science on this character, so hopefully somebody does. My PC who is actually a chef (of sorts) was out of tier for this - once I read in armory that cooking was life sciences, I bought it up on him just for that, lol.

Jagrur sits down and does some light maintenance on 'Dross during the 30 minute time. Since neither really need anything major, they keep an eye on the others who are taking a quick cat nap.

"Anybody else felt like that obstacle course was set up for us to fail? Just wondering...it certainly felt that way to me."

When they are escorted into the....'jungle' looks around in semi-amazement. "Okay, not certain I like Zo!, but I have to say, his attention to detail is amazing."

Listening to what the job entails Jagrur nods. "Okay, I am probably decent at killing the critters...butchering not so much. And I am definitely not a cook. I can barely boil water."

In other words...survival skill sucks, so does my life science (as in non-existent). I hope somebody can save the day here.

I'm pretty sure I got a little hurt on that last run, esp in the first room. I'll spend a resolve to get my SP back up

Fire Starters Loot

Assuming you asked about how the cooking challenge would be scored on the elevator, the ghoul tells you:

"Contestants earn 10 points for each creature defeated and up to 10 points for each dish successfully prepared. The team that wins the final taste test challenge will receive an additional 20 points!"

For some other skill checks when we get there, butchering your kills will be Survival, or a more difficult Life Science or Medicine check. For the cooking itself, you'll be attempting either straight Dexterity, Survival, or Profession [artist, cook, or herbalist]. But, given the close proximity of the two kitchens to each other and the fact that both teams will be cooking at the same time, there will probably be some other options in addition to just cooking...

I'll hold on one more day for everybody to get caught up and then we'll jump into Combat Cooking Extravaganza!

Croaker looks with satisfaction that he does not have to run through the trap. The whole situation looks odd, a waster of both time and resources if you ask him. But as long as Starfinders are paying he can try to climb walls on TV.

Croaker looks at the ghouls speaking with excitement about cooking exercise, he shares with his team

"I am a Ysoki, I can prepare most meats but for the most parts, they taste the same. Who will taste the dishes? Do ghouls feel any taste? I was under the impression that they can't even eat, huh interesting."

I have Survival +5 and Life Science +4 via Hireling. Medicine is on +5

Fire Starters Loot

Before the competition, the ghoul in the elevator will tell Croaker that Lethea and Quell will be the judges for the final taste test. He doesn't explain further how that works, given their undead (and in one case, incorporeal) nature.

Back in the "jungle," Quell nods after he finishes explaining the rules. "Alright, contestants! Get ready...GO!"

The other team dashes off toward their half of the enclosure. For all of you, its initiative time!

Round 1 continues

Oz remembers the following information about Akatas:
*They are resistant to fire, and immune to cold, disease, poison, and starvation
*They have an ability called "void bite." They hold hundreds of microscopic larva in their mouths and spread their parasitic offspring to hosts through their bite. This can cause a disease called "void death."
*Akatas can enter a state of hibernation for an indefinite period of time when food is scarce. To do so, Akatas secret a fibrous material that hardens into a dense cocoon of the starmetal called noqual. The cocoon is immune to bludgeoning and fire damage and is very hard. The akata remains in a state of hibernation until it claws itself free from the cocoon, leaving the fragments behind.

Choppy's laser blasts the uzorg, hitting its side!

Oz attempts to back away from the Uzorg, but it tries to catch him with its hooves.

Uzorg hoof: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
B damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ouch! Oz manages to hit the Uzorg back though with his pistol.

Uzorg -5

The Uzorg snorts and moves back at Oz for another hoof attack!
Uzorg hoof: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
B damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The Uzorg's relentless hoof attacks continue!

Meanwhile, BotCroaker now has a clear shot at the creature. He takes aim and fires!

BotCroaker laser rifle: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Unfortunately, BotCroaker again fires wide. However, after shooting, he looks up on a plateau about 10 feet above the ground and notices a large, three-limbed flightless bird! It looks like it's trying to ambush anybody who would try to climb up the plateu. He tries to remember the name of the creature.

Untrained Life Science: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Unfortunately he fails the DC 6 check and can't recall what it is or anything about it!

Jagrur's up again!

I'd like to apologize to BotCroaker for those rolls. Brutal.

Fire Starters Loot

Actually the unnamed bird creature's just going to continue "hiding" on its turn and the Akata is going to continue trying to make its way out of the cocoon. We might have to do some slight retconning if you break the cocoon, but for now let's keep things moving. Everybody bolded go!

Building up some momentum Charlie does a running start into the rear of the Uzorg, trying to pin it between himself and Ozmin as he raises both armored fists to slam them into the creatures rump to beat it both onto submission and to a bloody pulp - ideal for making goulash

to hit KAC Uzorg: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 (+2 from flanking if Ozmin is wielding a melee weapon, not included in the roll)

..but Charlie ends up tripping over his own feet and slamming head - or rather luckily helmet - first into the creatures behind while making a soft sound not unlike a hammer hitting flesh wielded by a little girl.

Jagrur Moves a bit closer to the cocoon to get a better bead on it and fires. Meanwhile he tells 'Dross to whale (I made certain that was the right whale/wail/wale...feels weird though) on the cocoon.

"Akata egg might be better if it was a bit more tender 'Dross...nail it

edit: Man, a shot and a miss..and a swing and a miss....blech. Oz's contamination has gotten to me ;-)

I didn't know we wanted to release the Akata, for now I'll continue with the other animal

Oz only has a pistol drawn right now, Charlie - sorry :(

Oz nods his thanks to Choppy for taking down the Uzorg, then he turns to look at the avian thing.

Life Science: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 (Elebrian ability)

He'll share what he knows with the team, and will try to use the underbrush for cover to conceal himself from it...

(If successful, target is flat-footed for me this round)

...and then shoot it!
