Hello, everyone! I already have most of your pertinent information, so if you could do a few things for me:
@Mustachio: Looks as if you'll be out of tier, if you're okay with that.
@Ears: No worries, I trust you.

![]() |

Akkedis has played Commencement, and does have Star Sugar Heartlove!
Day Job - Prof (Orator): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Will finalize my Boons later tonight (in Eastern Time Zone here).

![]() |

Mustachio, The Player, played down in the last game I played with him. I imagine he'll be OK with it again. I hope so. Mustachio, The PC, is huge fun.
Ears is a freshly minted level 2 technomancer. Gotta remember to update his page on Paizo. I leveled him up last night.
Akkedis, I have a feeling that we're going to be great friends.

![]() |

Kato is here reporting for duty.
I have played the commencement but not with Kato.
Also, I am relatively new to Starfinder Society. Are boons a one time use or can they be reused if they don't say how many uses?
Either way, I will slot the Defender of the Fleet (starship boon) which I will use to upgrade our ship's computers.
And I will also slot Scoured Star Survivor, giving me an extra 1d6 ⇒ 4 HP.
Day Job: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

![]() |

Oda Umox reporting (Ietsuna). Female half-orc soldier.
1. I am GMing Commencement right now. I have not played it at all.
2. Fresh character so no boons to slot really
3. No day job
4. Fun is being had :)
Just as a note I am playing with a concept. We'll see how it goes. Oda has damaged her vocal cords and so does not speak. She communicates through her personal comm unit and types into it. If it does work I'll ditch it, but want to try it. If that is an issue please let me know and I'll not annoy anyone.
EDIT: Oh, one other thing, I still have to pick a feat for Oda. I will do that soon, just trying to find something that fits.

![]() |

I've played the Commencement, but not as Ears. The character who played did get the boon.

![]() |

Do I still get XP even when out of sub-tier? I don't mind about a few lost credits.
Another question: This is an Exo-Guardians mission. Does it matter if I don't have that and slot Wayfinders Champion?
player #:258259-702
Mustachio did do Commencement, but he already turned his Star Sugar Heartlove in during another scenario.
Day Roll: True Savior of Tasch
Wayfinders Champion (Faction Boon)
You’ve declared your allegiance to the Wayfinders and dedicate your missions to furthering the goals of that faction. A character with this boon slotted at the end of a successfully completed scenario gains Reputation as detailed in the primary and secondary success conditions of that scenario.
AbadarCorp Augmentations (Social Boon, Limited Use (3)): AbadarCorp has made you a special offer after you helped maintain the stability of their Freemarkets by keeping illegal augmentations off the streets. At the end of a scenario where you have this boon slotted, you can purchase one or more augmentations from the Starfinder Core Rulebook and receive a one-time 20% discount. If the item level of the augmentation is 8 or more, then you receive only a 10% discount. Only three uses.
Solar Powered Weapon System (Starship Boon): The files you retrieved from Brilliance also included blueprints for experimental innovations by the Arch Energy Consortium. When you slot this starship boon, select a single weapon on your starship with the word “laser” in its title; you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon. A gunner can spend a Resolve Point prior to firing the selected weapon to increase the bonus to 4 for 1 round. A starship weapon can be improved only by a single copy of this boon, but copies of this boon can be applied to different weapons.
Slotless: True Savior of Tasch, Marked Field Agent , Mobile Translator

![]() |

I think you still get the XP, it's just a Cred penalty. The Faction flag just means extra Rep with the listed faction if we meet special goals. The slotted faction is normal.
Looking forward to it Ears!
Social: Pact Worlds Defender
Starship: Star Monster Slayer
Slotless: Marked Field Agent; Star Sugar Heartlove!!!

![]() |

@Kato: Most boons are completely reusable. Some require you to cross them out to use once, or may have a limited number of boxes to check.
@Oda: Good to see you're already enjoying yourself! No worries from me. I've played my mute monk through some PbP to little trouble. Shouldn't be so bad, especially with a text-to-speech or something.
@Mustachio: You'll still get XP, just a bit less credits. Your faction isn't super important. Whether or not you're a member, you get another point of reputation with the Exo-Guardians should you do well.

![]() |

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification. This will be my 8th scenario but the faction thing was something that always confused me (and I never thought to ask before).

![]() |

A few more questions, now that I'm thinking about it:

![]() |

1. Not really fussy on ship.
2. Gunner please. The other roles scare me.
3. I shoot, stuff goes bang.

![]() |

Which ship would you like? I prefer the Pegasus, but I haven't been in a scenario where the extra science bits did anything...
What will everyone's roles aboard be? Akkedis is really only good at shooting. He could be a lousy second Engineer.
How are you all on starship combat? Pretty good, I've done 3 battles.
Before I change my inventory, are you ok with me picking up the Pulse Gauntlet? And side question, I'm guessing you can just wear the gauntlet and as long as it isn't powered on it's just a fancy glove? So you can still use it as a 'free' hand.

![]() |

I will state no preference on the ship.
Ears on a ship -- Pilot +6, Sci Off +7, Eng +9, Gunner +4.
I assume Mustachio is going to be Captain. He's a pretty good one.
I've played 4 or 5 space combats now, so I'm pretty solid. Flash cards are always appreciated though.
Slotted Boons
Faction: Acquisitive Champion
Starship: Solar Power Weapon System (+1 with "lasers", 1 RP for +4 )
Slotless: True Savior of Tasch ( Looking to check the second box instead of a day job roll)

![]() |

@Akkedis: Yeah, everyone's free to buy things. And I'm pretty sure you can still use your hand.
I found the document! It's up now, I think all DCs are the current ones.

![]() |

Kato gets a +9 piloting and engineering & computers +8
Looks like he will do better as a pilot

therealthom |

When I ran this, I ran into the same dilemma regarding order of fire and asteroids. A couple thoughts came to mind:
1. Roll a d2 to determine who takes out the astroid.
2. Closest ship firing takes out the astroid.
3. Only ships declaring fire on an astroid can hit it, but if you don't declare fire then all your shots are blocked even if the other ship clears the blocking asteroid.
There are probably other reasonable solutions as well.

![]() |

I've reported the game early, as per the post in the Flaxseed Lodge. Try slightly harder not to die now!
In case anyone knows, I ran into a problem reporting. I put in my character's fame (I don't remember having to do so before), it changed to 8, and now the game seems to be giving him 8 reputation. Any leads on that?
Edit: I put in 2 instead, now that's right but his total reputation is still too high. I'll probably talk with a support person about it.

therealthom |

As a practicing technomancer, it seems likely that Ears would recognize the monster as incorporeal. And that he would know that energy weapons would affect it with 50% of their normal power. Is it cool to trot out that tidbit?
If needed: Mysticism: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

therealthom |

Also, sorry I didn't reply to your last OOC post. I'm definitely not the guy to ask. I'm still running my first SFS game as GM.
Your idea to talk with Paizo support is what I'd do. If that doesn't pan out, try bringing it up with kuey in the Flaxseed Station Recruitment thread. He, or she, is a great person and should definitely have the leverage to help fix it.

![]() |

With that roll, yeah, Ears knows. Sure is a good thing those two force batons are on the ship, could be a problem otherwise....

![]() |

Would the trick attack damage be considered force damage if Kato used the baton. If so, I think he could use it. Otherwise, Mustachio can keep it.

![]() |

Trick attack says "additional damage," so I assume it's of the same type (or in this case, ability to hit incorporeal stuff). So I'd rule that it works.

![]() |

I'd be game!
Also, I was meaning to ask everyone, how was the starship combat? I'm not sure how well I ran it, but it felt fine.

therealthom |

Starship combat went well, by which I mean it went quickly. In my game the ship combat stalled. Neither side was actually hitting well. We got into a rinse and repeat cycle and I ended up calling the combat in favor of the Pathfinders a little early when it was clear they were going to win by sheer attrition.
In fact we are now ahead of my game, even though mine started a week or two earlier.

![]() |

I thought starship combat went well. Quick which is good (all hail the merciful dice-bot), solid RP from the group, you kept the turn rotation moving Crunch and played out the other ship well. Can't ask for more than that.

![]() |

Same, Starship was nice and smooth. Our good roles helped with that for sure.

therealthom |

Supercharge weapon is the best first level spell ever, my all time favorite buff. I think that's partly because damage for first level weapons is hair pullingly, frustratingly low in Starfinder so supercharge is a big swing.
I originally took it thinking Ears would cast it on his pistol then fire it himself next round, but in his first combat he missed his first shot, and I realized that was a stupid plan. It would halve his attack rate and his ranged attack bonus wasn't good. Then I noticed the party's ace pilot soldier's to hit bonus. Since then Ears finds a gun buddy or two in each adventure, preferably someone who can double as a big meat shield.
I like the teamwork aspect of this also. Bless was a go to cleric spell and inspire courage , a bard staple.
Of course, it is a big letdown if the shooter misses.
And I think it will hold up for at least a few more levels.

![]() |

Yeah, it's a great spell. I haven't actually been able to play my Society technomancer yet (and my AP one was a Hellknight melee fighter), but it'll be their bread and butter for a while.
Well, let this be a good reason to love it for any who doubted. Critical hits are fun. All praise unto the Church of Supercharge Weapon!
Although it wouldn't have been an instant kill had Oda not dealt 5 damage (it had 40 HP total). So as always, team effort secures the kill!

![]() |

Yeah, that made things a bit funnier. I liked the repentant angle, nicely done.

![]() |

They can always be useful!
Also, when writing the last post, I just realized I was doing it wrong that whole fight. I'm not going to change it, considering how far we got, but things could've gone differently. As I mentioned in this post, the force batons only work for those with 12+ Strength. So this is now the good timeline. But good job, everyone! This scenario has some lethal potential at times.

therealthom |

Wow. Kudos to the frontliners and Mystachio for staning in there and delivering the goods. Ears didn't actually do anything to help that last fight. He missed his first supercharge, and you all finished it off before FR10R could take the shot with the second one. Amazing work. Hats off to you.

![]() |

Good fight! Crunch, I guess that was karma's give back for the crit last fight?
Two hardest fights for a low-level party have always been flying creatures and incorporeal. Both take damage options that can be tough to come by until middle-low levels.

![]() |

Yeah, sure! (Bluff to feign innocence: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10)
I feel like most will buy one ranged weapon to start, so it's hit or miss as to whether it would be effective. And even so, not everyone is good with them, they just carry something around just in case.
I've started work on Chronicles now, shouldn't take too long.
Ears, do you still want to compare games? And if so, where at?

![]() |

Yea kato should not have been using the baton. Oh well, too late now I guess.
Thanks Crunch for a great game!
Let me know if you are running another game. Kato would love to come along.

therealthom |

GMC, thanks for the game. It was fun. I am happy comparing notes in this discussion thread, or we could PM.
Sorry about kind of disappearing the last couple days. Work lurched left.
Everyone, I enjoyed playing with you, and I hope to see you around the boards. Kudos to Mustachio and the frontliners for toughing out that last fight! Great job guys.

![]() |

I might run another SFS game. I'm not sure, though; I only have a few I can still GM and they're also earlier ones. If any, I'd most likely do 1-02.
This thread is fine for comparing, the scenario's mechanics don't really spoil anything. I'm curious, did we do anything super different?

![]() |

Good session all!
Is 'Into the Unknown' repeatable? I might be down for that...

![]() |

It is, and now I feel much more comfortable with starship combat in PbP. It's not really harder at all, just takes a little longer.

![]() |

Thanks for GM'ing. We appreciate you.
Mustachio just made level 4. At what level is it appropriate to become a real celebrity? :) In this case, probably never.
