Onjatan
|
In a hurry to get out of that furnace, Onjatan moves into the room. As he does, the spirits swirling about him lash out at the bearded devil.
Spirit Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29 vs Yellow
Negative energy damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
This mummy didn't seem bothered by being on fire. Was it soaking in water before they came in? Keep that in mind. For now, occupy the minion.
Onjatan closes the gap with the devil, hoping to prevent it from setting up a flank on Mykel. Most devils were immune to fire, and this one definitely had the right resistances... better stick with rock. Responding to the thought, a stone club forms in his hand as he swings.
Will draw an attack of opportunity from the glaive on the way in; AC 31
Attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 2 + 1 = 16 Good Hope, Haste, no Araga
And misses.
Araga
|
Um... why was everyone running into the sealed door? With footsteps coming at them from further in, and... probably some of the sylph's bombs?
And there goes Onjatan. Oh dear.
Araga burrows over a little, under where the wall stands, then up inside the wall towards the ceiling. She then carefully peeks out until she finds the edge of the wall.
Oh.
Move south 1 square, then west 1 square, then up to right under the ceiling height of the furnace room. Then peek out into the mummy room, moving down if the ceiling in there is lower. Intent is to be up near the ceiling, since floor space seems at a premium, but "inside" the room for purposes of being affected and affecting Onjatan.

Frankly, lobbing bombs when there is a large miss chance is not the best idea.

Why 2 4th level slots? I think you could do 1 4th level slot or 2 2nd level slots, as long as the total is 4 spell levels. The example in the ability description only has the charcter expending 1 3rd level slot to counter a 3rd level spell.

because I don't have a 4th level evocation spell yet. It's one spell if I match or two if I don't. 11th level my greater counterspell will let me counter 1 to 1 regardless of school.

Shiva, you can retcon the rest of your actions (counterspelling (recover both spells and rounds of raging song) and casting ear-piercing scream) as not having occurred due to the failed Will save. I'll let you know when the paralysis is no longer in effect. What happens to your performance since you are paralyzed? I assume no singing but perhaps it keeps working with Lingering?
spell dmg for Shiva (due to being a good outsider): 7d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 1, 3, 2, 2) = 20
Even paralyzed, Shiva is able to resist the worst effects of the unholy blight. Half dmg and not sickened due to successful save
Shiva fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The skald continues to burn but fortunately her natural fire resistance protects her.
Btw, you have all now been exposed to the Despair aura (and are therefore immune going forward) so I'm removing the notes from the init card to save some space.
Yarrix looks at her one remaining minion with disgust as he uselessly coughs and retches like some kind of ridiculous mortal.
The shadowy miasma that had accompanied her unholy blight finally fades away. The effect that caused 20% and 50% miss chances has ended, which is sure to delight Yanda!
"Hastur, make these foul do-gooders rue the day the chose to disturb the rest of your faithful servant!"

Onjatan cannot resist the foul power of the Great Old One. full dmg
Mykel also feels negative energy pulsing through his being. full dmg
Yarrix moves backwards a bit to get away from that ugly looking falcata and she also crouches behind her sarcophagus to try to give herself some protection from Yanda's bombs. Cover.
Onjatan, it's your turn before round 3 starts but for simplicity's sake I'm resolving the firefall now so that everyone in the party can act.
Start of Round 3
Outside on the landing, the seemingly endless rain of fire finally comes to an end, the oil in the trap's reservoirs at last exhausted.
Unfortunately, the smoke continues...
Now that the firefall is over, please just roll a DC 16 Fort at the start of your turn vs the smoke. If you fail, no actions for this round and 1d6 non-lethal (which you can roll yourself). Yanda doesn't need to roll due to air crystals (but note that you can't speak).
Shiva finds her powers of mobility restored to her! Lucky! I rolled just 1 round for the paralysis duration.
Pathfinders are up! The bold may act! Don't forget your Fort vs Smoke at the start of your turn.
Edit: oops, just realized that I missed that Yanda has moved within the aura of doom...
Yanda Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 reroll vs. control, talisman of freedom, greater pentacle talisman (2nd save)
Yanda too cannot resist the horror of the situation and becomes Shaken.
Btw, just since I know you will be wondering. I have been taking into account the +2 from Good Hope. You are all also unfortunately under the effect of a Prayer (cast before you entered) which gives you all -1 on saves/attacks, dmg rolls. I've just been applying this myself (though I think I've forgotten to reduce your dmg rolls). And in this case that's just enough to transform Good Hope's success into a fail...
Also, just to gripe, the author of this scenario did a terrible job of choosing Yarrix's spells and it's also really annoying to have multiple auras in effect with different radii. Yeesh!

I was thinking hasted gave an extra action, but it is only an extra attack on a full turn action. But when you move you can draw something so couldn't that be a vial? If not, then she will have to wait a turn (this turn) to deliver the oil.

RAW, when you move (if you have a BAB of +1 or higher) you can draw a weapon as part of the move action. But not other items. Hence the value of springloaded wrist sheathes. And also my appreciation for how 2e's action economy makes these kinds of questions so much easier.
Note that applying the oil (on the coming turn) will use your standard action, not a move action.

Mykel's strike doesn't do quite as much damage as expected (DR) but the cold appears to be particularly effective (vulnerability) and the fire doesn't seem to do anything. Note that all the "extra" damage is not multiplied on a crit. Total net dmg from Mykel including the Balm was 62.

Shiva resists the smoke, manages to put out the fire burning her clothes, begins a new performance after her brief bout of paralysis, and casts a spell aimed at the surviving devil's hearing.
Yellow Fort vs scream: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Shiva Caster Level check vs SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Chomper takes some damage from Shiva's silent scream, but less than she might have hoped for and he doesn't look dazed.
Her spirits, however, manage to connect a solid hit on the poor devil.
Chomper Fort vs smoke: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Chomper drops his glaive and reaches for Yanda with both claws!
Claw 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
B/S Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Claw 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
B/S Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Only one of the claws manages to connect and most of the damage from it is absorbed by Yanda's Ablative Barrier.
Yarrix once again calls upon her foul god for aid.
Channel negative energy: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 3) = 14
Yanda Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 reroll vs. control, talisman of freedom, greater pentacle talisman (2nd save)
Shiva Will: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 +4 vs. bardic performance, language-dependent, and sonic
Onjatan Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 +1 vs mind-affecting, extra +1 if spell or SLA (+2 if psychic source). +1 (morale) to allies within 10’ vs mind-affecting Onjatan isn’t already suffering from
Araga Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Elemental immunities
Mykel will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Yanda and Araga take the full force of the channel, with Yanda's Ablative Barrier once again absorbing some of the harm, while the others in the group resist the worst of it, and Shiva is able to emerge unscathed. Poor Araga is barely conscious, teetering on the edge of falling over. At 0 hp and now Disabled.
Yarrix steps back five feet.
Onjatan and Araga may act at the end of Round 3.
Start of Round 4
Yanda, Mykel, and Shiva may act at the start of Round 4. Note that Haste will expire just before Shiva's turn.
Don't forget Fort saves at the start of your turn vs the smoke!
Firewarden Yanda
|
Yanda floats forward 5 feet to close a bit with the antagonistic mummy. Finally free to unload a full salvo of her bombs she launches a rapid fire of them.
Onjatan
|
Fortitude vs smoke: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 2 - 2 = 31
Onjatan clears his lungs briefly. The spirits surrounding him tear into the only remaining living foe.
Spirit Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Negative energy damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Spirit crit confirmation: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Extra crit damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Onjatan's actual actions will depend on whether Green is still up; I suspect he's not. Since Onjatan acts before Shiva, he still has haste up

Mykel tries to clear his lungs before trying to close with his foe.

Yanda hurls bombs at Yarrix while hovering next to the bearded devil, provoking a strike from him.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
... but she is too hard to hit.
Both of Yanda's bombs hit! Though Yarrix's hearing appears to be unaffected.
Onjatan's spirits slay Chomper (the Yellow bearded devil)!
Mykel once again falls prey to the smoke and spends the round coughing and choking.
Shiva moves forward and stabs at the mummy but cannot get past her defenses.
Onjatan is up!
Onjatan
|
With the devil down, Onjatan takes advantage the last dregs of Shiva's spell to move in. He draws a dusty-looking katana on the way, swinging it one-handed at the mummy and calling "H e r e !"

Onjatan rushes forward and strikes poor Yarrix a deadly blow. A hit but not a crit. Much of the damage from his strike is absorbed by the mummy's bandages but the cold seems to be especially effective (vulnerable). She looks momentarily startled, as if this was the last thing she expected after millennia imprisoned in this tomb, but then, before she can make a villainous speech, she falls flat on her face, finally, truly, *dead*!
Combat over. Pathfinders are victorious!
Whew, y'all had me a little worried there! Nice work.
Firewarden Yanda
|
No worries. The dungeon likes to neutralize one or more of us to keep things challenging.
"A mummy resistant to fire and vulnerable to cold? What next? A good demon? I think we need to see what is inside the sarcophagus. And maybe examine the flaming room now that we have time. I'd like to leave this place as safe as we can before we leave it."
Onjatan
|
Fort vs smoke: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 - 2 = 26
"W a i t .." Onjatan steps between Yanda and the sarcophagus. he then reaches into his pack and retrieves two wands, helpfully tagged "Cure Light Wounds" and "Infernal Healing".
"A r a g a . f i r s t .."
Is Onjatan still shaken? Do we know how long that lasts?
Araga
|
An unsteady Araga makes her way through the wall and floor, to peek aboveground at Onjatan's feet.
Single-moves, so probably 3 rounds before she could get to the north side of the sarcophagus
Firewarden Yanda
|
"Sure, I'm in no hurry."
Onjatan
|
Onjatan holds the wands towards Shiva, since Yanda doesn't seem to be taking them.
Would prefer Infernal Healing (cheaper and I've got more charges left), but that takes time and it's not on the alchemist/bard lists. Other than that, I've still got 24 charges of CLW. Araga could use at least +30hp and Onjatan +50hp.
Mykel Therinor
|
Make sure they're first... Mykel says as he points to Araga and Onjatan.i have clw wand as well..lots of charges..feel free to use them on everybody...i dont care...lol
| GM Abraham |
Go ahead and heal up - we are out of initiative. All your various conditions (Shaken etc.) eventually expire and you feel as good as new.
It takes about 10 minutes for the smoke to finally clear from the room, but without any active threats this is merely an annoyance to the seasoned adventurers.
Exploring the sarcophagus and the rest of the chamber, the pathfinders find a magical staff. Yarrix was also wearing a magical ring though it's hard to imagine the graverobbers pathfinders would stoop to stealing from the dead undead.
In addition, a battered journal contains a page on which is drawn an Emerald Spire level sigil.
You also see the door at the far end of the tomb - the same that you unsuccessfully attempted to unlock earlier. You note that Yarrix has the key.
