Onjatan
|
Oh. Interesting.
"F i r s t . r o c k . d i s a p p e a r e d" Onjatan points out. He hadn't seem his burning pebble falling, so apparently the infinite pit wasn't passing everything through.
Onjatan carefully picks his way through the rubble to get back to the pit, then tries geokinetically grabbing the falling rocks. With the rocks, he scoops the falling eels out of the air and deposits them in the previous chamber. Those would hurt if they hit someone while climbing.
Use basic geokinesis to catch eels on a platform of rubble. Can handle 35lbs at a time, so ought to be able to clean the airspace eventually.
The remaining eels would probably be angrier than before, too, when the others started putting their hands and feet into the holes. Deal with that as it comes.
Firewarden Yanda
|
While Onjy is doing his thing, Yanda quaffs her fly extract figuring she is going to need it.
"It looks like things are being teleported from the bottom back up to the top, doesn't it?"
Firewarden Yanda
|
"Well, it's just that after raining down stones and obliterating a bunch of the eels, and after they fell for a while, stones and eels started raining down from the ceiling. Sure seems to me that at the bottom of this very deep pit, there is some kind of teleportation effect that sends things to the ceiling and they fall all over again. If I'm right, we would see another flurry of stones and eels in a bit if Onjatan had not intercepted them. But he is right, that first rock never appeared. It could have gotten caught on something or an eel might have intercepted it though. Odd. Maybe we did something that triggered the effect?"
Onjatan
|
After clearing the airspace as much as he can, Onjatan hammers a piton behind the door and ties his anchor line. He pulls out a green-tinted wayfinder and holds it out to Araga. Then, without a word, he climbs along the left wall of the pit.
Use Jade Wayfinder to cast guidance on Araga. Try to avoid poking the remaining eels as much as possible.

Araga rides on Onjatan's pack, keeping an eye out for falling olaggi and good handholds.

Onjatan advances to the edge of the pit and begins to use his kinetic powers to catch the falling rain of rocks and use them to scoop the flying eels out of the way. The surviving eels squawk angrily!
Yanda drinks an extract of Fly while considering that the rocks are perhaps magically circulating back to the top after they fall to the bottom. Everything that the pathfinders can see seems to comport with that theory. Perhaps.
Meanwhile Mykel prepares a rope to cross the pit.
Shiva utters some words of encouragement.
Eventually the rocks stop circulating through the pit. To keep things simple, I'm going to assume that you waited 9 rounds from when Jey cast Stone Call, at which point the spell expires and the rocks disappear. Otherwise it would be a mess - the spell specifically says that it only does damage once but given the nature of the magical pit it would be quite reasonable to make you all take damage from the stones every round!
And then Onjatan beings to climb across, together with his faithful Araga. Both of them find that the climbing is not too difficult, though the surviving eels do nip at them.
eels nipping Onjatan: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Onjatan, I'm going to assume that misses (or this is going to go south very quick!) but please a) give me a breakdown of your current AC (and its components) and b) add your basic info (AC, saves, hp, etc.) to your character header - it makes it much easier for me if I don't have to go digging through your character sheet every time). Note that by my calculation at present modifiers to your AC are: no shield bonus (climbing), no dex bonus (climbing), -4 to Dex (entangled).
The creature gnashes its mandibles in frustration at missing out on such a tasty morsel!
Both Onjatan and Araga recall that this creature is a Bebilith. The Abyss is a terrible place, yet even in this horrific realm there exist predators and wild beasts that prey upon the demonic horde—the bebilith being the most notorious, a creature evolved to hunt and slay demons. Far more intelligent than its verminous shape would suggest, it is perhaps a blessing that the bebilith is such a focused and devoted hunter of demons, for had these dangerous outsiders more of a mind to conquer and expand empires, their ability to plane shift would make them a menace indeed. Although, as an outsider, the bebilith has no biological need to eat, it does enjoy the sensation of chewing on demonic flesh (or, perhaps, oread flesh...)
Onjatan, two questions. I know you already stated your preferences but I want to give you the chance to revise in case anything that has happened has given you new interests.
Although it briefly crosses Onjatan's mind that perhaps the webbing entangling him is not real, it feels very real indeed!
Pathfinders are up! The Bold may act. Note that everyone can now see the creature but that it will have partial cover from Shiva and Yanda (please note that in any attacks you make).

is the critter in melee range? unsure if its exact location height wise...
It's 15' beneath you. It was 35' below but it climbed up to be close enough to attack Onjatan. (From your ringside view you could see that it has 15' reach). There is a text box on the map showing it's altitude but I moved it to the left a bit so it wouldn't be in your way.
Firewarden Yanda

It's only huge, so Yanda takes a chance and flies above Mykel and the others to the other side, keeping 20' away from the creature, and tosses a blinding bomb down on the hideous thing.
May miss if it lands an AoO on Yanda as she launches it, and I'm not sure if the bombs blinding effect is powerful enough to overwhelm the darkness. The splash will not hit the webbing around our good Oread as it is too far down the shaft. So does she make it across and is she struck?

Onjatan

Bebilith. Seems very accurate, but didn't resist flames.
"U s e . b l e s s e d . w e a p o n s .." If they had any, that is.
The ledge was too far away for Onjatan to get to quickly, and Mykel was standing on the near ledge. Rock launch would cause problems without his hands free, and the webbing could hold him back. Shiva's powers were focusing on his cestus, though, and webs usually burned away quickly.
Holding on one-handed, Onjatan uses the empowered cestus to remove the webbing from himself.
Attempt to use the flaming+frost cestus to destroy the webbing entangling Onjatan. Other actions depend on how quick or effective this is. If a standard action is enough, move-action 5' up and 10' over. If it takes a full-round, 5' step over (or up if allowed, but I doubt that)

Onjatan, you can attempt to get free of the webbing with an Escape Artist or Strength check. Alternatively you can try to destroy it (with damage), which is what it sounds like you are attempting. Go ahead and roll your damage for a single cestus strike (I'll say you automatically hit) and I'll let you know if that's sufficient to destroy it.

Onjatan eel dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Yanda eel dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 3 converted to non-lethal by Ablative Barrier and then absorbed by temp hp
Yanda Fort: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 +6 vs. poisons, +1 vs. acid and cold, lesser talisman of freedom, greater pentacle talisman (2nd save)
Fortunately the eels continue to be a minor nuisance.
Pathfinders are up!

Yanda begins her rapid fire of bombs at the creature.
"Gods I hate snakes."

probably doesn't matter, but there would have been a miss chance on the AoO. Also, does Shiva have line of sight now that it's moved up and over?

20% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 9Thanks to Shiva's spirits, the Bebilith missed Onjatan. (Onjatan gets 15 hp back)
Yanda launches three fiery bombs at the creature, all of which hit to its great displeasure! Adding insult to (significant) injuries, it catches fire!
Yanda hears a voice in her mind, "I'm a demon spider, not a snake!" It seems angry.

Yes, thanks for catching that. And yes, given the current angle you have line of sight.
