We're on 40 out of 80 once I put my dosh in. We could finish it if we threw all the hard at it. The Ayavah might have it done by the time we get out of the Peacock Sanctum.

Well I'll throw ten grand of my share of the cash into the golem - still wanting to save up for a better version of the physical perfection belt for Theo.

Keeping the other nine thousand-odd should give me enough to get the belt upgrade to a +4 one (if I'm remembering the crafting rules right, it'd cost 24,000 to upgrade it and Theo should have just over 25,000 after I finally add this new lot of cash to the sheet).

I don't think we have stone to flesh to fix Rudrik, but even if we did, I'd have to make a Fort save to survive the process.

Fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

So Rudrik is petrified, and even if he's somehow turned back, he's dead. I'll start making a new character.


Break enchantment is in the oracle spell list. Would it be possible to fall back and do a spell exchange, Brainiac? It's normally when gaining new spells at even levels, but Nime hasn't done it at all yet.

The biggest challenge to replacing Rudrik will be that, since we don't have Calendula any more, I have to both tank and trapfind, and putting those together well is a bit challenging. I could do it with a slayer or an assassin, perhaps. Alternatively we could just say "screw traps," eat the damage/curses/effects, and I can make a new tank. Or, if Theo thinks he can handle tanking, I can just do a skills monkey.


You can retroactively get break enchantment, Nime.


It's up to Rudrik, then. Which'll it be? Bring Rudrik back or bring in someone new?

Assuming, of course, that we survive the current combat.

At this point, breath of life can bring Rudrik back.


Even if not, Nime has raise dead.

And with a spell called breath of life how can I not take that literally. ;)

Next wrinkle: Failing my save to come back from petrification leaves me dead, but it doesn't specify how many hit points I have. Breath of life has a limit - it can't bring back someone whose hit points are at a negative total at or greater than their Constitution score. Since we don't know how many hit points Rudrik has when he dies from unpetrification, we don't know if he's able to be saved by breath of life.

Oh the vagaries of the system...

There doesn't seem to be any discussion about this, either. At least I couldn't find anything on Reddit or the Paizo boards.

Never mind, moot point anyway! Break enchantment doesn't work, and here's why.

PRD: Break Enchantment wrote:

This spell frees victims from enchantments, transmutations, and curses. Break enchantment can reverse even an instantaneous effect. For each such effect, you make a caster level check (1d20 + caster level, maximum +15) against a DC of 11 + caster level of the effect. Success means that the creature is free of the spell, curse, or effect. For a cursed magic item, the DC is equal to the DC of the curse.

If the spell is one that cannot be dispelled by dispel magic or stone to flesh, break enchantment works only if that spell is 5th level or lower.

If the effect comes from a permanent magic item, break enchantment does not remove the curse from the item, but it does free the victim from the item’s effects.

The problem is that break enchantment works against "enchantments, transmutations, and curses," "even instantaneous effects," and spells that can't be dispelled by dispel magic or stone to flesh if they are 5th level or lower.

The problem is, the medusa's gaze is not a spell (it's a supernatural ability) and it's not instantaneous (it's permanent). This means it doesn't meet the qualifications for break enchantment.


Let's say that an instant death effect like this leaves at you negative HP equal to you Con score. In this case, Nime's 37 healing is enough to bring you back.

I'll allow break enchantment to work on a medusa's gaze even though it is technically not a spell. It's effectively the same thing as flesh to stone, which break enchantment specifically works against.

I confess I'm a bit vague about where we are right now. On top of towers right? Can we go inside them?


You are about 80 feet away from the guard post. There are two towers and a bridge over the river, which the medusas emerged from. There's also a door leading into a small building attached to the towers.

I may have made a terrible mistake with antimagic field, but I've been kinda waiting for a chance to use it somehow.

What have we got in the way of sneaky spells?

I have DDoor and both kind of Invis, no sphere though.


The only things that Nime has that would contribute to our sneakiness quotient would be silence, obscuring mist, and her personal invisibility and gaseous form.
