Lleidr will make a bundle of the surgical tools to add to the treasure pile. If it's too big or unwieldy a pile, he'll Appraise them to pick the more valuable items.

"I think it is the key. Just when I was hoping we could find out what's up with those doors with the skeletons carved on them."

All told, the tools are 1 lb in weight. You estimate their value at 100 gp.

Nicholae tries the amulet as a key.

Fits like a glove. The door feels like it's now unlocked.

Nicholae makes an 'after you' motion to the halfling and steps back.

Brandishing his weapons, Lleidr will kick the doors open, the look on his face daring evil to challenge him.

Or, since they've already been check for traps and are now unlocked, he'll simply open the doors.

Hakak will make sure his axe is ready in case what they find on the other side of the door is less than friendly.

sorry for the gap computer issues. Also as I am two people unless something important is happening I will only post with one of them.

Jubrayl once again hefts his bastard sword as he gazes ready to end the foul monstrosities inside the caves riddled with Lamashtus essence.

[Morning, Thistletop, 9th Day After Goblin Raid, Thistletop Level Two]

This room is lit primarily by a 10-foot-long pit of f lickering fire that fills the room with a strange humid heat and the smell of burning hair. In the northern corners of the room, wooden risers each hold several dozen golden candles that burn without melting, while to the south the wall bears an immense carving of a seven-pointed star.

Pacing in a corner, a snarling, canine beast jerks its heads towards the newly opened door and pads forward on all fours, its slender front limbs looking more like hands than a wolf 's paws. You have achieved that which Nualia and the Thistletop goblins long failed to do: come face to face with Malfeshnekor.

He speaks, in a fell voice that would make lesser men tremble. Or perhaps it’s his thoughts and will being impressed upon your minds, “The door opens not for me … my despair shall dwindle in the quenching of my hunger, which has spanned centuries uncounted.”

Ooops - old habit.

He casts Protection from Evil.

You notice no lines or glyphs in the floor that would indicate some kind of arcane obstacle.

Just need actions from Ned, Hakak, Selia and Jubrayl, and then we'll proceed. Nich, who's the target for Protection from Evil? Yourself?

[Morning, Thistletop, 9th Day After Goblin Raid, Round 1, Thistletop Level Two]

From the dusty gloom of the hall, Nich cries out for aid from his god.

Hakak erupts into a volcanic fury and steps into the room; the axe blow comes down with tremendous force and Hakak digs horns deep into the monster’s hide. Blood is drawn, yet the creature’s remarkable hide shields him from great harm. Locked together in a martial embrace, Malfeshnekor whispers a small chuckle in Hakak’s ear. Hakak hears a growl from the beast’s belly.

Lleidr charges into the dank, fiery gloom, slinging his enchanted dagger towards the lumbering beast. The dagger bounces off Malfeshnekor’s hide, hits a shelf of the candles which all overturn, and then the blade flies back into the halfling’s hand.

Ned runs past the fiery pit and puts his back to the corner, his bow sings, and an arrow buries itself into a shoulder flank of the beast. Malfeshnekor roars in pain, and then the shaft gets pushed back out halfway.

Bravely trying to corner the massive beast, Jubrayl’s blade is battered aside by the barghest’s massive arm.

Her eyes closed in concentration, Selia begins a ritual prayer.

With Jubrayl’s sword-arm turned aside and unready for a parry, Malfeshnekor’s great head snaps forward into the opening past the paladin’s shield. Oversized teeth clamp down on Jubrayl’s leg (15 hp dmg). The monster’s head turns back, and a pair of his hairy paws rain down upon Hakak with unearthly speed (23 hp dmg). “Who offends me more, this pathetic emissary from a powerless god or this undersized half-orc with temerity to challenge me? Verily, I am a lieutenant of Lamashtu; I will strip the flesh from your bones, half-breed.”

[Morning, Thistletop, 9th Day After Goblin Raid, Round 2, Thistletop Level Two]

Nich bestows healing grace upon his friend, Hakak.

Hakak’s axe bites again, but the monster’s reeking hide prevents the blade from sinking as far as it should.

Lleidr lobs a fizzing blob of acid at the monster. You see him flinch in pain as the liquid hisses and bubbles on his hide, exposing a tiny patch of skin now hairless.

Ned loosens another arrow. It hits him square in the head, but the shaft immediately shatters.

Undaunted, Jubrayl swings again at the oversized fiend, but the beast’s arms parry the blade with ease. “You do have courage, aasimar. In all these empty centuries, long have I waited to be challenged.”

An eagle under Selia’s command bursts into the room, tearing and beating its wings at the beast. Selia immediately works to bring another into the fight.

The barghest slams another massive arm into Jubrayl (10 hp dmg). Simultaneously, another paw bashes Hakak and its teeth sink into the half-orc’s flesh (20 hp dmg total).

[Morning, Thistletop, 9th Day After Goblin Raid, Round 3, Thistletop Level Two]

Nich utters a blessing, and Hakak’s blade is burnished with blinding holy light.

Under a devastating assault from his enemy, Hakak makes a wild swing.

Right after a magic missile slams into the beast, the barghest raises an eyebrow at the monkey’s antics. “You do amuse me, halfling.”

Ned’s determined charge is a success, but the blade simply fails to penetrate far past the beast’s hoary coat.

Jubrayl administers a healing touch to himself again, but his sword again fails to hit Malfeshnekor.

Screaming and flogging your foe, the first eagle is able to peck and claw at the barghest, but you fail to see that either bird is having any effect on your foe. Selia also gives Hakak a blessing of health.
“Nuisances, weaklings, half-breeds. Imprisoned for countless centuries by the most powerful mages to walk this world, and these mongrels are the ones to find me and unlock my door? End these silly distractions and fight!”

Standing on his back legs, he stands. Arms lash out at the birds. One massive paw snatches an eagle from the air and he snaps the bird’s neck. He misses with his other arm, but his mouth is more than fast enough to snare the second bird. “Hunger still torments me.”

oh yeah, you definitely move prior to Ned in initiative, so there's no problem with moving adjacent to Ned & casting the spell.
