Cure Mod averages out to 12
Cure Serious averages out to 18
But sure, simple is good by me. Definitely use that for Am to figure out what he has used.
Amkarang the Unsinkable |
Sounds like a good solution to me. As for my stat line, I do most of my posting from my phone and can’t update it from there. I’ll update it to reflect my max HP rather than my current HP, and make a note of my current HP in my actions.
Benedict the Clever |
It looks like Amkarang took the following damage:
19 melee + 8 firebomb (Reflex made) vs the random encounter alchemist troop, so 27 damage.
We had plenty of time to heal up after that fight, so 1 CSW and 1 CMW from Party Loot would put him at 2 HP down.
Then, he took 0 damage from the miners, I think.
Followed by damage from the phalanx troop
17 (need to roll Ref DC 20 for half)
15 (need to roll Ref DC 20 for half)
Had some time to heal up here before we advanced on the building. Roll the saves and figure out how much of Amkarang's stash would be needed (3 CLW and 1 CMW), or maybe another from Party Loot.
And then from the alchemists
6 splash damage (Ref DC 16 for half)
13 direct hit
He then had a round or two to use Unbreakable Survivor for +12 HP before the golems emerged and maybe any remaining potions he had. But even if he were at or near full, the golems have hit him 4 times for 78 damage. Regardless of any prior healing, one more hit will put him down.
DM Stalwart |
Thank you, Benedict! I was going to get around to doing that breakdown today and you managed to beat me to it. Thanks again.
Reflex 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 8
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 15 = 23
So, one potion of CMW and two CLWs and he's down by 3.
Reflex 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 3 = -6
Direct hit -13 = -19
Unbreakable Survivor for 12, so he's down by 7 going into the golem fight.
That's 85 damage, or 7 hp left.
Benedict the Clever |
@Amkarang - it looks like we will be unable to save you before you bleed out. Benedict can't run into melee with the golem and spend a full-round action provoking an AOO to administer a potion to you. That just means 3 golem hits on him, which gets him killed.
BUT... did you count Toughness? You took that as a bonus campaign feat here but it isn't listed on your profile and doesn't seem to be factored into your stats.
Your Con is +3, and it looks like you have been putting your Favored Class Bonus into HP (+1), with Toughness being another +1. That would put you at 9d10+45 HP (103), which would have you now at -3 instead of -14.
Just grasping at straws here, though I think it might be valid.
(You'd also have a 9th-level bonus campaign feat from the list of Alertness, Athletic, Deceitful, Fleet, Magical Aptitude, Persuasive, Self-Sufficient, Stealthy, and Toughness).
If you already counted Toughness, then -14 is what you are at, and we'll have to see if anybody else can pull a rabbit out of a hat.
Amkarang the Unsinkable |
I don’t think I did! Looking through my drafts of him, an outdated version did but it must’ve not gotten factored in on further levels up. I’ll get that added to my profile when I’m back at my computer this afternoon, and I’ll roll my stabilization with that factored in.

My War for the Crown game might need another player, but we are late in Book 5. I don't want to spoil the AP for anyone who hasn't done it. But are there any among you who have done it (or most of it) and would want to join at this late stage?
Benedict the Clever |
It's a great AP.
I may choose to run it eventually, and if I do, I will keep you all posted.
But, in the meantime, Grum and William are up!
Aerel Truthseeker |
I am beyond capacity. I'm intrigued (no intented play on words there) because the description of the AP didn't grab my attention, but you say it's great and I respect your opinion.
Maybe someday.
Benedict the Clever |
As to the frustration with closed doors, Benedict can add Gloves of Reconnaissance to the list of things to craft. They are fairly inexpensive (therefore quick to craft) but only usable 1/day.

Also at capacity, but War for the Crown is a great, great AP, one of the best in my opinion.
Benedict the Clever |
Wow, that was a tough one.
A few faulty assumptions on our part, but also some tough matchups for us.
I assume a bit more XP for the tentacle-cloud, the trap, and maybe dealing with the explosives?
Then we can hopefully earn a bit more by improving Longshadow's walls and maybe some other tasks. Not sure if we will hit 10th before the battle begins but it may be close.
Benedict the Clever |
Benedict will try to attend to any remaining tasks to fortify town defenses.
Do we get XP for the last monster (tentacle-cloud thing) and the trap?
Benedict the Clever |
We had a few unidentified items that I had hoped either Navah or William could identify:
Mysterious jar of claylike substance
2 sets of crystal lenses
25 arrows
Benedict the Clever |
Sweet!
Aerel should get one set of the Eyes of the Eagle. Not sure who is best to get the other.
Aerel and William should split the arrows at 12 each, and give Benedict 1.
And given that we have run into a couple of petrifying enemies, we should save the Stone Salve for such a situation.
Aerel Truthseeker |
Don't fret about the missed crit, Aerel. Elementals can't be critted anyway!
I'd already forgotten, to be honest. Thanks for giving that RNG dagger another little twist...
Aerel Truthseeker |
My BFF and I are hitting the road to celebrate the latest of many anniversaries. If you feel it necessary to bot Aerel, please do so. He doesn’t have many options currently.
Benedict the Clever |
@GM, are you still tracking XP, or switching over to milestone?
Because we might have enough to level up.
Last time we got XP was in the middle of the munitions camp. Since then:
Tentacle-cloud monster
Trap
Explosives? Not sure if we get XP for blowing them up.
Increasing town's defenses (Aerel and Benedict on walls; Amkarang training reserves; Benedict training freed prisoners)
Rallying troops at beginning of battle?
Giant at the gate
Rallying troops after the giant fight?
Fire elementals
We would need another 7,240 each to level, which is another 36,200 before splitting. My guess is that we are probably there.
Benedict the Clever |
Yes, indeed. We are at 111,200 XP each, so level 10.
Benedict's Level-Up:
Class: Chevalier3
HP: +8 (new total 84)
Saves: +1 Fort, +1 Will
Skills (6): Bluff, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, Perception, Knowledge (Nobility), Acrobatics (plus the free rank in Disguise from Advanced Armor Training)
Deceitful improves to +4 Bluff/Disguise
Recklessness improves to +3
Poison Immunity
Smite Evil 1/day (based on character level)
Aerel Truthseeker |
Great news! Unfortunately, I will be AWOL a bit. Please bot Aerel as he is or bump him for his next fighter level and I will be back when I can.
Grum Bakison |
Lvl 10 Fighter
HP: +6 (class) + 3 (con) +9 =103
Saves: +1 Fort
Skills: +3 UMD (+16 total)
Feat: Greater Weapon Focus
Fearful Might: +1 intimidate to demoralize
Benedict the Clever |
I know William has had a lot of trouble finding time to post lately. Health issues, I think. He runs another game (all-paladin Wrath of the Righteous) and we haven't seen much of him in a while.
It would be good to know when Aerel might be able to rejoin us. I wouldn't really want us to have to bot two PCs.
Aerel Truthseeker |
Sorry, I’m here, just not in a good headspace. I have not attempted the level and will try to find time this evening.
Aerel Truthseeker |
Leveling up Aerel
Hawkeye ability improves to +3 total to Perception, +15' overall range for bow
Fighter bonus feat: Manyshot
Keeping Perception, Stealth, Survival at max
Put a point in Bluff for Benedict's feint plan, and a couple in Knowledge skills
Updating character sheet now
..... And done
Sorry for the delay.
Amkarang the Unsinkable |
GM, how would you rule the effortless dual-wielding advanced weapon training interacting with my metor hammer? Spoilering the ability description below.
The fighter treats all one-handed weapons that belong to the associated weapon group as though they were light weapons when determining his penalties on attack rolls for fighting with two weapons.
Benedict the Clever |
If we need to bot William, I might suggest Greater Weapon Focus as his level 10 fighter bonus feat. Simple and effective.
Makes him +18/+13 for 1d8+8 (counting Arcane Strike, but not PBS, Rapid Shot, or Deadly Aim). Full attack with all of those is +14/+14/+9 for 1d8+15.
He gets 2 more spells known, including potentially 3rd-level spells, but he doesn't yet have the spell slots to use them (once he has a 16 Int from a headband he will have a slot). So gaining those spells known won't make any difference at this point.
Benedict the Clever |
I'm really hoping we can get this going again - it is one of my favorite campaigns - but I don't think we are getting William back so I think we should prepare to move on without him.
Either bot him or replace him with a cohort (Benedict was going to take Leadership at level 11, but it could be sooner if I can retrain Cosmopolitan).
DM Stalwart |

** spoiler omitted **
I don't think it works, because the meteor hammer isn't a one-handed weapon.
================
All right. It's a shame William can't keep playing. I hope their player is doing better and wish them well.
Let's at least finish the invasion of Longshadow, then we can either have the players take on cohorts or maybe a permanent NPC companion from their numerous allies they've accrued to this point.
William Grove |
Sorry for disappearing guys. I enojoy this game as well and would like to continue. I am planning on getting down to 2 maybe 3 games and think I can handle that if you'll have me. It doesn't look like we have progressed much.
THank you all .
Benedict the Clever |
Hooray! William is back!
You get to level up!
