Duardlara Frostborn |
No harm in them not knowing how many of us there are, though...
Duardlara finds a place to hide away from Orgar's hiding place and waits quietly, rapier drawn but held point-down and behind her.
Stealth: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (3) + 24 = 27
DM Variel |
Time seems to pass slowly as a few of you hunch down into the corners of the alcoves in the room. some, like Helgash and Greta remain in open sight waiting for something...what though you don't know. After a few minutes though the door to the north opens up and you see nothing. No one there. That does not surprise you too much as you know the woman turned herself invisible once before. You were not expected though to be waiting here and you can hear the small expulsion of air as someone is caught off guard. Calling out to those visible you hear the woman's voice, Oh, why hello. I did not expect you to be here.If you will excuse me though I will be right back. I am looking for someone. Just wait here and I will come back for you.
You are well aware of the fact that she is acting and knew you were there. While telling the truth about looking for someone she is also trying to stall for time.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Sense Motive (take 10): 10 + 14 = 24
"The jig is up," says Cynehelm, standing. "She knows we're here and she's stalling for time."
Walking towards the voice, Cynhelm says "Enough, Madame. We are not here to harm you or anyone, and only seek to aid the great Baba Yaga and stop a terrible fate. Please talk to us or get out of our way."
Helgash |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
"I make my companion's words my own" - Helgash steps forward - "I can understand your wish for secrecy or privacy, but the matters are far to grave for us to cater to that wish" - he adds - "We need information and assistance"
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara remains hidden, watching and waiting.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
DM Variel |
Duardlara can hear the sounds of other creatures approaching. One of them is coming from the north while the other is coming from the hallway leading to the redcaps. The disembodied voice keeps talking to you though, I don't think I have been in your way yet. I stayed out of the fight as you slew my peaceful visitor, I let you take items from my room, how have I been in your way? IF anything I should be asking you to leave MY home and quit interfering in things that are beyond your understanding.
There are systems in place here that have been around for ages, delicate checks and balances that prevent the entire system from collapsing. Your presence alone could be enough of a force to disrupt everything. And yet you have the gall to accuse me of standing in your way?
She is still stalling as she knows others will be here in the next few seconds. you are pretty certain as well that this is not going to be peaceful as she vents upon you.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 Nope!
Believing diplomacy is still possible, Cynehelm keeps talking.
"Please. We do not wish to invade your home. But we must have information. Can't you help us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
DM Variel |
Coming form the north doorway you see Caigreal coming hurridly. As she enters the room and sees you she seems surprised. Looking around for anyone else Grishelmuk calls out from being invisible. I am hear sister and soon Silyzil will be as well.
Coming form the eastern doorway another voice calls our as the witchfire appears again. I felt the summons and am here. What is the meaning of bringing us all together?
AT this point Caigreal amiles evilly as she points to the three figures before her. These fine people have just brought the most delicious news to Grishelmuk. Apparently there is some serious problem and Baba Yaga is in trouble. In as mocking a voice as Caigreal could muster she says, Oh dear me, what should we do about that?
Laughter comes from the other two as Silyzil answers. Oh well, since we won't have Baba Yaga coming to interrupt us I think we should start by joining together as have in the past. It has been many many years since we were able to truly join our talents together into the coven we formed. It was just after Jadrenka was born by you that Baba Yaga put a stop to it.
Indeed sister, intones Caigreal dryly. That was when Baba Yaga took the mantle of Warden from me to eventually bestow upon my daughter. Well we will rectify that here shortly, but first...
Turning back to Helgash and Cynehelm who are present up front Caigreal asks, My precious messengers, I give you this one chance. Will you join with me to help me restore my rightful place as Warden of Artrosa and keeper of the Ring of Artrosa or must we waste our time in ridding us of you first?
Cynehelm, the only reason they are even giving you the option of joining with them is due to your diplomacy check. In essence, assuming you all say no, you can all take a surprise round action.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Still in hiding, the elf shudders slightly. Coven. Desna weeps.
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Sigh. Hags and witches. Well, Lady, I truly tried. Aid me now in cleansing evil with your holy fire, I pray.
"Madame, all our chances are past. Be cleansed by the power of Sarenrae!"
Cast empowered fireball.
Empowered Fireball, Spell Specialization, Primal, Varisian Tattoo (Reflex save DC 19): 15d6 + 30 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 1, 3, 5, 1, 6, 5, 2, 6, 3, 4, 3, 1) + 30 = 80

WOO HOO! Jetro fired at the front witch
Shocking Longbow,DA: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 271d8 + 14 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 14 + 16 = 35
Cynehelm of Orlov |
Cynehelm, assuming to hit Caigreal in the front and the fireball is targeted back in the hallway to exclude you, Helgash and Greta?
Ayup.
Orgar |
Round 1
"Goody! A fight! This I can understand!
Orgar enchantes his bow with his eldritch power and then shoots an arrow at the same witch Jetro shot:
olchur (+1 composite longbow, enhanced): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (4) = 13
• Good for two minutes
• Eldritch Pool is +3
• +2 of that goes to increased enchantment to make Olchur a +3 bow
• the other +1 goes to giving Olchur the flaming property
For now, Olchur will be
• +15/10 to hit
• 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 fire damage
DM Variel |
Cynehelm I need a spell resistance check as well please. I did not realize that Green hags and annis hags have SR. thanks
reflex save Caigreal 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
reflex save Grishelmuk 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Both Jetro and Orgar fires shots from their bows at Caigreal. Both of the arrows sink deep into her flesh but not as far as one would suspect.
Duardlara, Venja, and Helgash/Greta still for surprise round actions.
Greta Silvermane |
Greta doesn't care, and doesn't have anything to say - she lets the axe speak in her name, and wades in at the woman, swinging as hard as she can - "Die she dog!"
Vital Strike: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Damage if it hits: 2d12 + 7 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5, 12) + 7 + 3 + 3 = 30
Before Helgash acts - do we have a map Variel?
Helgash |
Got it Variel - thanks!
"We have come for assistance, and with nothing but truth in our hearts!" - Helgash roars, truly outraged at the treachery - "You respond with foul play, and deception!" - then steps ahead, his greatsword swinging in a wide arc - "You shall pay!
So Greta would have moved to M:19 to protect Cynehelm, and Helgash steps to M:17
Greatsword +1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Damage if it hits: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 5) + 16 = 22
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara steps out of hiding to add her arrow to the onslaught against Caigreal.
Sneak attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + (6, 2, 5) = 17
She attempts to duck under cover again, hopefully before they realize where her shot came from.
Hide after the shot: 1d20 + 24 - 20 ⇒ (17) + 24 - 20 = 21
DM Variel |
Both Helgash and Greta target the witch charging forward slightly to hit the one they can see. The front one was invisible but my marker was underneath it not on top. Still they manage to hit the creature Caigreal for solid damage but even they noticed that not all of the damage went through.
Duardlara shot at the witch but her arrow flies just wide of the mark.
DM Variel |
Venja bot...Hoping to end a threat quickly Venja casts lightning bolt on the witchfire in the doorway knowing full well after last time that magic is needed to even slightly overcome its incorporeal state.
lightning bolt 9d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 6, 1, 5, 4, 4, 6) = 32
reflex save Dc 201d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 takes 8 damage after incorporeal and save.
In return the coven joins forces as a wave of exhaustion springs forth from the Grishelmuk covering everyone but Orgar in its cone shaped burst.
No saving throw and everyone is exhausted but Orgar. Long live the power of the coven with a witchfire!
Good guys up
Cynehelm of Orlov |
EXHAUSTED: An exhausted character moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity.
Orgar |
@ DM Variel:
Which witch is which? (sorry, I just couldn't resist!)
Caigreal is the target Orgar would like to aim for...
Round 2
Orgar stays where he is and shoots more arrows at Caigreal:
olchur (+1 composite longbow, enhanced): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + (4) = 12
olchur (+1 composite longbow, enhanced): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + (2) = 10
• Good for two minutes
• Eldritch Pool is +3
• +2 of that goes to increased enchantment to make Olchur a +3 bow
• the other +1 goes to giving Olchur the flaming property
For now, Olchur will be
• +15/10 to hit
• 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 fire damage
Duardlara Frostborn |
Ouch. -6 to Strength nearly drops me. The bow takes a -2 from having insufficient strength to draw it back and -3 from the Dexterity reduction, for a bonus of +4.
Suddenly very weak, the elf considers her knowledge of the spell to see if there's anything that can be done to shorten its effects.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 or Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25?
Duardlara Frostborn |
I was afraid of that. Nice spell selection. If she still has an action after cogitating, Duardlara will cast vanish on herself.
Helgash |
Helgash almost swoons against the wave which threatens to topple him, but manages to hang fast, stepping closer to Greta to cast a spell on her.
Stepping to M:18. Casting Lesser Restoration on Greta. Which I believe turns Exhaustion into Fatigue?
"To me friends - I can do away with this pestilence!" - he roars.
Greta Silvermane |
Greta grunts, shaking the grogginess from her muscles, then bearing down on Caigreal - "My attacks aren't hurting her as much as they should! Why?!" - she roars.
I am not sure which one is Caigreal, but Greta will 5' step if needed.
Greataxe: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 12 - 1 = 31
Damage if it hits: 1d12 + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 19
Greataxe CRIT?: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 12 - 1 = 26
Additional damage if it crits: 1d12 + 1d12 + 7 + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (11) + (2) + 7 + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 45
Greataxe: 1d20 + 7 - 3 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 3 - 1 = 6
Damage if it hits: 1d12 + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 24
Helgash |
Crap, my bad on Lesser Restoration... Thought it would be faster...
For Greta, since she is now effectively Fighter lvl2, her BAB is +8, which means -3 on PA and +9 to damage. Correct?
Helgash |
Yeah, it was my bad Variel - I posted in Discussion what I was planning to do with her level up, but never updated the profile... I will take care of that.
As for the rest... I'm really at a loss regarding what to do. Neither Helgash nor Greta can do anything at all unless the Exhaustion is dispelled, so.... My LoH removes Fatigue, but I don't think it turns Exhaustion into anything else..
