Background::
The stories told by your parents of the wonders of the Third Imperium contrast to the reality of the old military base you have lived on all your lives. A leftover relic of a past age, it was once a waypoint for the IISS (Imperial Interstellar Scout Service) and a training and equipment depot for the Imperial Navy, Marines and Army. A small commercial repair depot was even installed during the period your parents called the “Hard Times”. It is said that a secret Imperial Laboratory also resides somewhere on the small moon, but no one seems to want to talk about it.

The year is 36TNE (The New Era), or 1196 by the old Imperial Calendar. Your group is made up of the sons and daughters of the staff and officers that manned the IISS Depot Thoth on the 3rd moon circling the Gas Giant Pyt-4. The system use to be home to a lush, technologically advanced planet of millions, Pyt-2, but not since the “incident” has anyone heard from them.

The “incident” as it has been called for the last 30 or so years, seems to have been empire-wide. Some sort of breakdown in technology turned the once helpful tech of the empire against its users. Before FTL communication ended, stories leaked through about computers turning off space station environmental controls, or warships firing on each other against the commands of the human passengers. It seemed the technological triumphs of the Third Imperium turned on their users…with deadly results.

Your family has lived on Pyt-4iii (Thoth) for all your life. Your parents use to belong to that great interstellar empire that you have read so much about, but no longer. Whatever they did in the “old” days is now moot…survival is all that matters. Pooling their skills, and with a huge amount of supplies located in the depot’s warehouses, the staff and officers of Moon Base Thoth were able to live and, to a very small extent, thrive. Society continued and people were taught what they needed to know to help live on the isolated and barren moon. Hydroponic farms were developed, environmental systems were maintained to supply the life giving air and water needed for the colony to survive.

As the years march on, the technology that keeps the moon base running has begun to breakdown. At first, with all the supplies in the depot’s storage areas, repairs were routine, but now as common items become more and more scares, certain functions within the base have ceased to be. Two ship’s boats sit in a hanger, parts cannibalized to keep systems within the base running. Other ships were taken in the early days of “The Incident”, never to be seen again.
Recently the heating exchanges that are used to moderate the temperature within the base have started to breakdown. Without replacements, the base will begin to cycle between periods of searing heat and icy coldness. The plant manager gives the current repairs only a few months before they too breakdown. You have been called into the office of the Base Commandant.

And so he does...the creatures have elongated nails (now claws) that they tear at their victim's with.

Ok then, moving on to the next round....the party can act.

I will be on the road Tuesday – Thursday please feel free to bot me as necessary. I do not foresee having any problems posting. However, tomorrow is going to be an 18 hour day and I might just hit the sack when I get to my hotel.

I've enjoyed the run so far and would love to continue on.

Whoot!

Sorry busy week. So it looks like we have 3 players. Do you want to try and recruit another one or two players, or go it alone? You may also adjust your characters slightly. Check with me for any changes you want to make. I am also giving you each 2 extra points to place in any skills you already have, or you can use the two points to open a new skill at level one

Sounds good, I'm fine going with three but wouldn't cry if we recruited another.

Can we run a second character?

I'm putting my points in:

Electronics: Computers 2->3
Gun Combat: Shotgun 1

Do we need a Doctor/Scientist?

I think we should recruit, and that person should be free to build their own character. However, yes, we could use a Doctor/Scientist.

I used my two points to improve Vacc Suit and Persuasion. I'm basically Guns and Talking. I hope there's some talking in our future. :-)

We should probably recruit then. I'll put point into:
pilot 1->2
not sure about the other one yet.

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Ok. all points look fine so far. I can open up the recruitment page again, unless one of you knows someone who might be interested in playing??

I asked around,no takers.

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

No problem...sorry work is kicking me around here for the next little while. I will try and post a new recruitment here later today and then hope to kick off the next section of the game in a week or so.

Some of you asked to alter your characters. Tell me what you are thinking of and I will give it some consideration. I think we cover most of the major areas, and with a new player it should help strengthen those skills, but if you still think you need to alter something, tell me about it and we shall see!

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Hey gang...sorry have been a busy week, but I do have a new player...he is just completing his character now and I hope should be ready to go shortly.

While we are still here at the base, is there anything you want to do? In game time you will have about a week before the next chapter begins.

Look for any information about "The Event" that might be hidden in some security documents?

Get a new ACR from the arsenal.

Go talk to Doc Beaumont and tell her how I feel because I'm not sure any of us have any more time to take it slow.

I'd be willing to roll up a second character to fill spots when needed, and sit quietly in a corner at other times...

That sounds like an option.

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

I would rather add an npc in that case. I will PM our new addition and see if he is still interested or not. If not, then we can just carry on, if that will work for you guys?

Fine by me.

Hey everyone, sorry for holding up the game : /

I hope it's ok with Daniel that I post this here.

First off, only 4 terms...you have 5. As for the connection skills, feel free to take whatever skills you want. The base is a pretty small place, so you will know the other players...your background write up can cover those connections. Finally you may take 1 bonus skill of your choice as part of the "group" package offered at the start of the game.

I think that is all....others please chime in if you notice anything out....and breaking up your science skill is fine with me, as it lists as "science" so you can chose the specific skill for it to go in...

    4. The players may choose 1 career to follow and will gain all Basic Training skills for that career, plus may advance 1 term in this career. Due to the primitive conditions, this constitutes training from either your parent or another adult who actually served in the career.
    5. The player next takes 3 more terms in one of the following careers:
Citizen (Worker only), Drifter (Scavenger only), Rogue (Thief only), Scholar (Physician only), and finally Army (Support & Infantry only).

Sorry, seems I misinterpreted this... that's ok. I'll get rid of the last term and probably drop my Medic skill by 1 so I can keep Engineer (Life support) at 2

It would be nice if you could blame Rho’s behaviour on a lack of parents or poor parenting, but his parents are solid citizens of Thoth, just doing their bit to keep things afloat.
Rho likes to cultivate that solid dependable image, rarely partying or socialising, enabling him to obtain a rather cushy job as quartermaster. It isn’t his fault that lack of production means some items are missing, or that the quality of a few of the items he distributes aren’t quite up to the same standard they were 5 years ago. Nothing that overtly endangers the small community on Thoth, that would be against his self-interests, but he has certainly improved his standard of living over the years.
All good things come to an end, and new procedures limit opportunities, so it’s time to see where else a quick buck can be made…

    Backstory :

Mum was a nurse in the small moon base hospital.
Father was an engineer, working to keep the base operational.

When Braydn was about 14 his father grew slowly ill with some kind of degenerative disease. Loosing the use of his legs was the first stage of the disease, and Braydn would often accompany his father in his work maintaining the base, learning as he fetched tools, reached high places, things like that...

By the time Braydn was 17 his father was basically bed bound and in the full time care of his mother. Braydn actually signed on with the medical department to to try and research his fathers disease while he learnt to be a Doctor... unfortunately his father passed away before he completed his training.

After hearing about the success of the expedition to the moon lab Braydn has volunteered to go on any future missions, the idea of leaving the moon base, seeing what has befallen the outside world, perhaps leaving his troubles and grief behind... well it has appeal.

    Connections:
Marcus Aurelius Carter: As part of signing up to any further missions Braydn thought it best to learn the basics of gun combat, so he sought out Marcus to show him the ropes. (Gun Combat: (Slug Weapons) 1)

Emilyene Shadye: Braydn actually knows Emilyene from when he used to work with his father in maintenance. He remembers many times when she corrected a diagnosis he'd made, or pointed out a mistake he'd made while putting something together...
    (Engineering (Life Support) 1)

    Group Skill: Stealth 1

So I think I'm done, apart from gear, but as I understand we only get supplied a few basics? I've changed a few of my skills around to hopefully complement the group better.

Get your characters finalized and post "FINAL" when you are all done so I know you have everything. I will open the Game Thread either later tonight or tomorrow.

One last thing to check, as late comers do we get this bonus skill rank?

So for Gear, can I procure a Vacc Suit, Snub Pistol, Medkit, Scientific toolkit, Engineering (M drive) toolkit, and possibly Light Intesifier Googles?

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the USA. Everyone else Happy Thursday!

    @Brayden

    I doubt it...

(Quote:Most non-personal equipment is property of the base, so other than your cloths and a few personal items, you "own" nothing. You can request equipment from stores, and while working, tools and such are made available to you so you can function at your given profession.

Vacc Suits are very precious and many are well worn and have been patched many times. Weapons are strictly guarded, and only security is ever armed (and even they have to return their weapons at the end of shift.) Tools are a little easier to obtain, and of course there is said to be a 'black market' for items like food, clothes, ect. but none of you would know anything about that....now would you...lol

To start you may each take 1 item from the book. It can be a weapon (pistol (slug) or melee only), a piece of equipment or tool kit. This represents what you personally have scavenged from the base stores, or perhaps received as payment for a 'off the books' job. Just check with me if you have any question about an item you might like.)

For the last mission, we were provided the vacc suit and weapon for the mission. Along with the first aid kit, and later some tool kits.

Emilyene's one personal item from the book is a hand comp with a couple of specialized programs. All of her other equipment has been returned to inventory.

I'm aware, I was more putting a list of stuff together that Braydn would want with him on a mission I guess.

Perhaps the Engineering (M Drive) Tool kit could be his personal item. Made up of tools his father accrued over his years of working with the tech department.

No worries Daniel, all the best!

If you want a game to drop off your campaign tab go to the gameplay subforum and find the gameplay thread of the game. Click the symbol (circle with a slash through it) on the right to 'hide' the gameplay thread. The campaign will no longer be displayed in your campaign tab.

Braydn, I don't want to use that method because then I won't see it if Daniel starts it back up.
