I wouldn't mind if this map was more blank of detail, mostly the well estabished trade-ports, etc, and if some of the small islands were "missing"
GM Nayr |
Agreed; check out the link at the top of the page above. This is a map you would have, as reputable pirates. Keep in mind that a member of the crew would typically be kept on board just to make and keep charts and maps. Rush will be your man for that, I'd think. So, most pirates would have a pretty good map of all reputable ports and places of interest/rumored treasure or shipping lanes. If you didn't know it, your crew would...so I'm good with you using the map I linked.

Sounds good. We can start using yours. Can you edit the permissions so we can add notes and such?

The thing I like about the other map version was its super high resolution, but I haven't been able to find an empty one of the same resolution. That said, this one isn't horrible, and will serve.
Now the Shackles seem more mysterious!

The rum ration keep em happy and sated. They have to drink it, or they might get up to mischief.
AryaSunyata |
Yikes Sunyata! Are you in the medical field perhaps?
Right, so what you have to weigh is:
Bigger the port, better chance to get a good price for loot and more items to sell, but higher visibility and the chance to run into Harrigan or someone equally distasteful
Smaller port, harder to sell loot, but less visibility
Not medical, I have my own tech startup. Given the industry... It's not strange. Trying to launch something massively big and world changing.

Well...I think we are going to be pirates.
This really isn't a great campaign for pondering moral quandary's; otherwise get off the boat :)
GM Nayr |
So....regarding Rickety's payment: since no one made arrangements when you where leaving, you default to this:
Third - I underwrite as a shareholder in The Oncoming Storm. That means I get one third of all your plunder till you've paid a third over the refitting cost total for squibbin' your ship. And, I'll throw in a five percent discount for any future refitting of ships in your fleet.
GM Nayr |
So...we have this:
Ship modifications:
Base refitting - 2000GP
broad rudder - 500gp; (+1 sailor checks)
Silk sails - 1500gp; (+1 bonus opposed sailing checks; waterborne speed is increased by 10%.)
Total = 4,000 GP, less 500 GP Rickety deducted for the ape problem = 3,500 Gold. As agreed upon per Rickety's deal below, he'll collect a total of 4,655 GP from your plunder till you're paid off
Everyone good with that?

Thanks.
A frustrating thing about this map was that it was super easy to move the map instead of the ship icon.
I copied the map and created a new google doc that uses the map as an inert background image..It is much better, IMO.
Consider updating your link to this one, which is editable by all with the link.

Normally I'd be in favor of a trading ship look. Let us sneak up on people. But this time I'm more looking at something distinct. Let our ship strike fear into the hearts of our prey. Let's be ruthless. So how about a kickass figurehead. Like a woman with lightning in her hands (for the Oncoming Storm) and grey sails? And a long, iron sheathed bow sprit?
Keep in mind, too, that any peculiarities in the ship or crew or whatnot, can easily be explained by saying we picked it up in Absalom. The city isn't far away (relatively) and EVERYTHING goes through there.

Perhaps that is why we named it thusly Mr Rush. I like it.

One day, let us sheath the hull in gold plate so the barnacles do not impede the flow of water, and we will appear with a fiery glow in the sunset.
xeyed-jack |
how about a good cop bad cop sort of thing. I am pretty good with the intimidate. I can paint a grim picture of the future, and the captain can do an act of persuasion to say that the alternative is 20 percent of all their treasure.
maybe a third option. To join our pirate league.

One point of plunder is worth about 1,000 gp, and
takes up 10 tons of cargo capacity, unless otherwise noted. Their ship holds 50 ton, so 1/5th is 1 plunder, or about 1,000gp.
Riches!
But if we can do this without fighting every time, then it will be better.
