FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

I wouldn't mind if this map was more blank of detail, mostly the well estabished trade-ports, etc, and if some of the small islands were "missing"

Agreed; check out the link at the top of the page above. This is a map you would have, as reputable pirates. Keep in mind that a member of the crew would typically be kept on board just to make and keep charts and maps. Rush will be your man for that, I'd think. So, most pirates would have a pretty good map of all reputable ports and places of interest/rumored treasure or shipping lanes. If you didn't know it, your crew would...so I'm good with you using the map I linked.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Sounds good. We can start using yours. Can you edit the permissions so we can add notes and such?

Yessir; should be good to go now

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

The thing I like about the other map version was its super high resolution, but I haven't been able to find an empty one of the same resolution. That said, this one isn't horrible, and will serve.

Now the Shackles seem more mysterious!

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

run rations ....

piratical punishments ...

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

The rum ration keep em happy and sated. They have to drink it, or they might get up to mischief.

Yikes Sunyata! Are you in the medical field perhaps?

Right, so what you have to weigh is:

Bigger the port, better chance to get a good price for loot and more items to sell, but higher visibility and the chance to run into Harrigan or someone equally distasteful

Smaller port, harder to sell loot, but less visibility

Not medical, I have my own tech startup. Given the industry... It's not strange. Trying to launch something massively big and world changing.

Nice! Good luck with it!

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Are we gonna be the moral pirates of the sea?

raiding villages? or bringing them under our uhh protection.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Well...I think we are going to be pirates.
This really isn't a great campaign for pondering moral quandary's; otherwise get off the boat :)

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

No village is going to trade with us after we raid them. So, I guess we'll have to do a cost-benefit analysis.

So....regarding Rickety's payment: since no one made arrangements when you where leaving, you default to this:

Third - I underwrite as a shareholder in The Oncoming Storm. That means I get one third of all your plunder till you've paid a third over the refitting cost total for squibbin' your ship. And, I'll throw in a five percent discount for any future refitting of ships in your fleet.

So...we have this:
Ship modifications:
Base refitting - 2000GP
broad rudder - 500gp; (+1 sailor checks)
Silk sails - 1500gp; (+1 bonus opposed sailing checks; waterborne speed is increased by 10%.)
Total = 4,000 GP, less 500 GP Rickety deducted for the ape problem = 3,500 Gold. As agreed upon per Rickety's deal below, he'll collect a total of 4,655 GP from your plunder till you're paid off

Rickety's deal:
Third - I underwrite as a shareholder in The Oncoming Storm. That means I get one third of all your plunder till you've paid a third over the refitting cost total for squibbin' your ship. And, I'll throw in a five percent discount for any future refitting of ships in your fleet.

Everyone good with that?

yep

Sorry guys, had to head out of town for a funeral, will update Monday

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Tap, the conversation I had with you was in the captain's cabin, a meeting of the officers, not a "public contradiction", or public suggestion of weakening the rum.

so, yeah.

:)

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

how likely is it that our ship would be recognized after having it squibbed?

The ship, probably not...crew, quite possibly

To Quent then?

I added a ship icon to your map. When you have chance, could you move it to the place that we are, approximately?

Good ship lollipop has been moved

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Thanks.
A frustrating thing about this map was that it was super easy to move the map instead of the ship icon.

I copied the map and created a new google doc that uses the map as an inert background image..It is much better, IMO.

Consider updating your link to this one, which is editable by all with the link.

Yeah, I agree; I changed the link above

Headed to GalaxyCon in Raleigh this weekend, so won't be posting till Sunday night or Monday, after today.

Seems like we got a bit stuck here; are you guys waiting on anything from me, or need anything to get us going? Do you want me to just figure that you stay the course, and roll for the various days till you get there?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Well, I think we decided on a destination. There doesn't seem to be an appetite for visiting/raiding the villages we saw.

Ok, I'll roll on then

I'll be on vacation this Saturday through next Friday; posting will be by phone and sporadic at best. Feel free to continue the RP;)

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

I think a hooker would be something like

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galway_hooker

capable of sailing into shallow water.

could be useful, actually.

Hooker ship stats (base is like a Keelboat):
Init +1
AC 17 Touch 6 Hardness 5
HP 600: Oars 80 / sails 80
Save +9
CMB + 15
CMD 25
Ramming damage 4d8
Min - 15 sailors
Cargo 50 tons
Up to 100 passengers

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Well that's a big bigger than a Galway Hooker!

and 50 tons of fish won't hurt us.

not cod, because cod like cold waters.

question: does our ship look like a trader ship, or are we very obviously something more?

That's sort of up to you, within certain parameters....probably something we should have established. Lets do that now; based upon the size and shape, a merchant/trader would make sense, but you could stretch it to be another type. If a trader, from where?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Best say that we're from where we're from, the city we all got kidnapped in. But, other than that, we bought up the ship from an old trader who needed the cash to pay her debts, after having lost her trade goods to pirates.

Farmageddon

Normally I'd be in favor of a trading ship look. Let us sneak up on people. But this time I'm more looking at something distinct. Let our ship strike fear into the hearts of our prey. Let's be ruthless. So how about a kickass figurehead. Like a woman with lightning in her hands (for the Oncoming Storm) and grey sails? And a long, iron sheathed bow sprit?

Keep in mind, too, that any peculiarities in the ship or crew or whatnot, can easily be explained by saying we picked it up in Absalom. The city isn't far away (relatively) and EVERYTHING goes through there.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

Perhaps that is why we named it thusly Mr Rush. I like it.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

One day, let us sheath the hull in gold plate so the barnacles do not impede the flow of water, and we will appear with a fiery glow in the sunset.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

or copper, if we be poor pirates.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

ha, if its gold, our own pirates will jump into the sea and start prying it away.

I like the back and forth. Are you inviting anyone else into that conversation, like Sandara or Fishguts?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

sure.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

I'm only a +4 sailor, because I sank skillz into cookin' you all some mad fish and chips. Maybe someone with better checks can roll?

Two more checks Rush!

My bad

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

so they're pirates, heh?

Or just have a very skilled pilot

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

how about a good cop bad cop sort of thing. I am pretty good with the intimidate. I can paint a grim picture of the future, and the captain can do an act of persuasion to say that the alternative is 20 percent of all their treasure.

maybe a third option. To join our pirate league.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

not my greatest roll ever.

FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map

One point of plunder is worth about 1,000 gp, and
takes up 10 tons of cargo capacity, unless otherwise noted. Their ship holds 50 ton, so 1/5th is 1 plunder, or about 1,000gp.

Riches!

But if we can do this without fighting every time, then it will be better.
