talking may be a free action, but using its greater teleport ability is a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity...
AoO: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 1 + 2 = 30, for: 2d4 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 16 + 2 = 24
Zagathoth's legs tighten to spring after the demon but at the priest's command he freezes to allow a quick check for trap. He takes a few deep breaths to finish releasing his rage, and recover so that he's ready to embrace it again...

Michael Johnson 66 |

Does this count as 'the end of the combat' for the purpose of my judgements?
"It seeks to lure us!" Lucius calls, his voice stern. "We must proceed, but be careful - it will likely have traps prepared. Zagathoth!" His voice cracks like a whip, to snap the raging orc out of his bloodlust. "We must fight this thing together! If you seek to fight in melee then surround the creature, let The Bear find room to use his claws!"
Who is packing a deflection bonus right now? Lucius can hand another one or two out as we move.
With his speech done and tactics planned Lucius strides forward, his new sword vibrating slightly in his grip.
[dice=Perceptionn]d20+13 The Cardinal is not a fool - if the demon teleported then there is something it didn't want to step on...
This is a running combat, still in initiative, so Cardinal Lucius’ judgement is still active...
Cardinal Lucius scans the corridor floor for signs of a trap, but it seems safe enough...

Zagathoth |

I have darkvision...
Also, if it didn't teleport away I'm assuming that Lucius didn't snap me out of my rage? And, I think there are still other people to act before I go again, right?

The Ogon Fox |

Whatever Johann's next move is, the Fox follows and moves to where he can place a hand on him to cast blur on the Bear.
Due to the initiative order, this happens after your turn, and any attacks of opportunity you might provoke. The spell lasts 4 minutes.

Arc held til the end of round 1 and then takes the ready action to follow Johann or Zagathoth if either moves west into the Damon's lair...
Arc remains at the corner of the northbound and westbound corridors, watching Zagathoth and Johann, and poised to dash after either of them if they give chase...or flee...

![]() |

So we can all act in round 2? Also what sort of distance between us and it?

Quinlan Ifrean |

Oops forgot about SR. I believe that the Vrock must remain within 20 feet of Quinlan due to the spell.
CL VS. SR: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Quinlan's arcane might is powerful enough breach the demon's defense.
two more rounds of haste for everyone
Round 2 of limp lash
Str damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 for a total of 4
Dex damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 for a total of 11
Con damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 for a total of 8
With his other hand he shoots a spray of dazzling colors over Zagathoth's head and into the Vrock's face.

DC 17 will or be stunned for 1 round.

Zagathoth |

...the vrock was unable to fly back...
how unfortunate, lol
With a satisfaction only known by those fulfilling the purpose for which the good Lord created them, Zagathoth hacks at the demon.

hmm... with -5 AC from the Dex penalty that might confirm? and, thanks to Boja, none of that should be subject to damage resistance...

Unfortunately, the vrock DID fly back, as the FAQ on limpid lash clearly state that the spell does not prevent the subject moving further than 20 feet and causing the spell to end... Which, of course, the vrock would do in round one. However, I willget allow Zagathoth, since he is hasted and can cover the distance to the vrock with a single move, to keepthe his first attack, which was the critical hit, if he chooses tothe give chase into area 5 and attack once...

Zagathoth |

well, I'll miss that extra 22 damage (from attack 2)... but I guess hitting him once for 45 is still pretty good.
***Retcon***
Zagathoth follows the demon down the hall and gives it a slash that may cause it to think twice about turning its back on him again...

This DID, in fact, happen on the demon's turn in round 1.
Thus, it has only taken 3 Str damage, 5 Dex damage, and 5 Con damage from Quinlan's limpid lash, and is 50 feet west of where it had been...In Abyssal: CRAAAWWW!!! COME, FOOLS! BEHOLD THE OTHER MESSIAH!!
Suddenly, a blur of lightning-fast green and glowing steel flashes in the demon's face as Zagathoth sprints with unnatural speed after his foe and splits its ugly beak open with a mighty blow of Doomcrescent!
NNNYYYYAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!
Down a total of 59 HP damage, 3 Str, 5 Dex, and 5 Con damage!

Zagathoth |

I think it should be down 69? With Boga's spell that attack shouldn't have been subject to DR, I thought?

Michael Johnson 66 |

So we can all act in round 2? Also what sort of distance between us and it?
All PCs should act in round 2, but the demon IS in area 5 at the start of round 2, about 80 feet of movement from Cardinal Lucius, 70 feet from Ogon Fox, 65 feet from Boga and Quinlan, about 60 feet of movement from Johann, 50 feet from Arc, and WAS 45 feet from Zagathoth until Zag ran up and attacked on his turn in round 2... See POSITIONS photo link above...

“Faithcarcass” the Vrock Demon |

Yes, you are correct, my bad... Boga did make Doomcrescent good-aligned temporarily, so that crit inflicted the full 45 damage, bringing the demon to 69 damage total...

I'm sticking with my choice of casting blur on Johann. Although if he moves too far for me to catch up with a single move action, I won't be able to. Johann, do you want to delay until after my turn?

![]() |

Since we have haste though...
Lucius moves forward in a blur of speed, enjoying the feeling of the magic pulsing through his veins as he chants another spell.
Move the full 60, gets me just inside the room I think? and cast Divine Favour on self. Now just gotta get a hit in!

Things are getting a little confusing. I think I can go?
Johann holds back a brief second to get Blur from his friend the Fox, and then takes off. With haste, he moves like the wind, covering 70 feet in a few seconds. He is able to approach and swing his claws, mostly interested in grabbing on and holding the demon still.

Michael Johnson 66 |

Now that Zagathoth, Dire Bear Johann, and Cardinal Lucius are standing in the chamber the demon withdrew to, they see that it is lit by a golden radiance that comes from the small statue of the infant Messiah lying in a manger filled with straw, within a classic divine nativity scene. The infant demigod-Messiah’s virgin mother is also represented, a beautiful young maiden untouched by mortal man, the Immaculate Mother of God... There, also, are life-sized statues of cows, mules, sheep, and goats in a broad recreation of a stable, plus herdsmen, a trio of magi, and a celestial messenger—an angel—carved of purest alabaster, and pointing out a star of purest gold hung via adamantine chain from the twenty-foot-high ceiling above the nativity scene...
The walls of this spacious chamber are painted with colorful, masterfully rendered murals depicting the life and miracles performed by the Messiah... Yet, while some are strikingly similar to the miracles and stories described in Christian scriptures, others are wholly unlike those found anywhere in the Bible...
Knowledge (religion) checks can be rolled to identify this Messiah, vs DC 20...

Boga |

Round 2
This takes place after the demon's actions. Posting now in case can't later. If something big happens, may need to retcon.
Boga follows the others into the room, stopping just outside the demon's reach. He is immediately struck by the demon choosing to retreat into a room celebrating the Savior's birth, but something just doesn't feel right.
Religion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Not good enough.
Boga feels uneasy, not recognizing what is actually being celebrated by the masterful art, but it does not deter him from calling upon his personal Savior, "Bless Zagathoth, guide his blows to end this demon here and now."
move, +2 sacred to attack for Zagathoth

The vrock demon spreads out its black wings, raises its taloned hands upward, and dances obscenely, horrifically, for several seconds, chanting in guttural Abyssal: From the toxic skies of the Abyss, I call thee, Brother Maggotwing!!
To the adventurers' horror, a large black cloud of stinking smoke expands next to the demon, and a second, almost identical vrock demon begins to materialize within it!
As a free action, Faithcarcass also releases a burst of spores that deal 1d8 ⇒ 3 damage to both Johann and Zagathoth...
A cloud of dark spores burst from the chanting vrock's body, enveloping Johann and Zagathoth, and penetrating their skins painfully! Immediately, the spores begin to sprout ugly green vegetation or fungus!

Arc strikes the demon with Sanguinelle, but the demon scoffs in Abyssal: Are you trying to tickle me, little red fool!?

Michael Johnson 66 |

"I will deal with the summon! Take down the foul originator!" Lucius bellows as he raises his new blade in a challenge to the new demon.

"Maggotwing" the Vrock Demon |

As the second vrock fully materializes, it crows to the first in Abyssal: You've summoned me to join you for supper, my brother! Then, noting the black, stinking ichor dripping from the summoning vrock's wounds, it adds: Or perchance, to save your diseased hide from certain slaughter! Who ARE these mortals!? They'd better not be those Lucky Fools we've been warned of, the ones even Duke Mephistopheles feared to attack in his own dungeon! If we get destroyed and return to the Abyss as quasits, I swear to Pazuzu, I'll feed you to the barlguras!!

Within the vast cavernous lair of Mosura, the kaiju known to westerners as Mothra, finally could ignore the annoying and familiar screeching, and with a monstrous and angry buzzing, gave answer to her old nemesis, Gojira:
BBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
BBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTT!!!
Rising from her nest, Mosura beats her mighty wings, stirring up hurricane-force winds that buffet Gojira in the face as she rockets out of the cave over the towering reptilian-feline head of the King of Kaiju!
