There is some hint of magical essence in the gems, but the statues seem to be just that. Each gem is of a different color. There is red, green, blue, light orange, violet, and dark orange. Silvash notices six holes in the door along the northern wall. The corners of the room are dark as there is no light except for a torch in a sconce in the southeast corner. The flame is laboring through the chilly air.
Khartelosch |
"Perhaps it is a challenge to our intellectual capacity. It may be necessary to place the gems in the door in a specific order to open it. Or to achieve some other effect. If so, may there be other consequences if we get the pattern incorrect? And I might just be blabbering from lack of rest."
Verrin Kord |
Verrin will look carefully at one of the statues to see if it is trapped and then weather all or part of it is movable.

The gems appear as if they can be removed from the hands of the statue. Ibrah inspects the statues thoroughly and determines that their is no mechanical danger from interacting with the statues.
Silvash inspects the heavy stone slab double doors and determines that the holes are indeed gem-sized and the door has no other hidden dangers.
Khartelosch |
With a sigh, Khartelosch takes up the light orange and violet gems and, after cocking his head to the side and seemingly listening to a short conversation, he places them in the top two spots, left to right. Below these he places the red and green gems, left to right. Finally, he places the dark orange gem in the bottom right slot and gestures for Ibrah to insert the blue gem in his hand in the remaining space at the bottom left. All the while he gives the impression of consulting someone unseen.
Ibrah Narishtahir |
Ibrah shrugs and places the blue gem in the last spot.

Unbelievable!
The gems glow softly as the heavy stone doors snap their seal and slowly scrape the floor as they swing open and reveal a dark corridor.
Khartelosch |
Khartelosch nods to his unseen adviser(s) and peers beyond into the dark corridor. If any of the others express wonderment or confusion, he merely shrugs at the vicissitudes of life and gestures for them to enter.
GM Gristle |
Khartelosch solved the sequence on the first try. Must be an artist. If you decide to move forward, I will be updating map tonight or tomorrow.
GM Gristle |
After the large stone door grinds open, you can feel the rush of a cold wind upon your face. You are in a dark room approximately 50 feet wide and 50 feet long. The floor is dusty and muddy. There is a simple stone altar in the middle of the room that is five foot by ten foot. It is also covered in dust. A faint glow eminates from the ceiling in the center. It appears to be glowing fungus. The corners of the room are pitch black. You enter into it and pause for a moment deciding exactly what to do next.
Khartelosch |
Khartelosch leans down to scan the floor for traces of passage other than Silvash's. Without looking directly at the roguish caster, he mutters aloud "A valiant effort my friend, but there is little to hide behind or beside in this room besides the altar-like piece of furniture in the center and I suspect that any denizens of these chambers, if they're watching, clearly do not need light to see by."
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Khartelosch |
At the moment, Khartelosch is at the door to the room, checking the floor for signs. If he doesn't find any, he moves into the room and up to the altar-like construction in the center and examines the growth on the ceiling.
GM Gristle |
The ground shakes as Silvash approaches the shadowy corner. A 9-foot tall humanoid approaches the group. It is caked in mud or perhaps made of wet, slimy clay. It is iron red and stands behind the old altar.
None shall pass! The creature exclaims loudly as it slams its fist upon the stone alter causing it to crack.
GM Gristle |
Silvash can't seem to recall the odd beast dripping in wet clay.
Turn around and go back!
Khartelosch |
Khartelosch looks around for any other exits that the creature might be guarding. "Silvash, why don't you step over to this side before that creature gets angry. Anyone recognize who this room might be dedicated to? A deity? Something else?"
Khartelosch |
Khartelosch looks for other exits to the room besides the door they came through while casting bless on the group in case combat erupts. "If there's a door there, perhaps I can distract it while you guys get it open." he suggests, drawing out his hammer and getting nervous after seeing the creature crack the stone altar with its fist.

Verrin also tries to recall tales of people encountering such creations. As it seems likely we will have to defeat the creature he also casts his last spell to shield himself from harm.
GM Gristle |
"You not have seal of Midnight Lord! Go back!" , the creature insists and then scans the group singling out Thaane. "You have broken seal and is upside down," the creature looks confused, staring intently on Thaane.
Silvash Auerial |
"Ok. We don't want any trouble. Let's step back gentlemen." As Silvash turns around he takes Thaane by the arm and pulls him back out of sight of the golem.
"Let me see that symbol please Thaane." Silvash then takes the symbol and casts mending on it seeing if that will fix it and then turns it around from the way Thaane is carrying it. "Lets see if this works now. If not we will have to fight it but, it is resistant to slashing weapons and magic, so blunt objects or poke it."
GM Gristle |
Silvash's ruse seems to work for Thaane, but then confuses the golem enough to ask, "Why do you all not have symbol?"
