The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Asch's shots connect solidly and penetrate the creature's hide leaving it a twitching mostly dead mass. However, you can see that it is slowly regenerating.

Nice job! Especially since it was going to spit magma next round. :)

Thanks. Apparently I need to add the PFSRD to the list of sites I frantically pull up looking for stats and such during combats. :)

"No you don't." Asch says as he loads a disintegrate shell in his gun and fires it at the creature.

.

"We may wish to move along now," Fei calls out as he observes the wounds on the creature start to heal.

touch1 d20 + 44 damage24 d6 dc: 19 for 5 d6

And it will now take longer for the ashes to form back into a crag linnorm. But it's still regenerating.

Male Kobold Expert 6/Slayer 8

Having chased a scared teacher out of a nearby room, Vakkler now returns to the task at hand. Deploying Slarrow to look around for concealed targets, he heads back to the cafeteria.

"Are you hurt at all Fei?"

"No - I am unharmed," he replies as he cautiously backs away from the creature's ashen remains, watching for any sign of it returning to cohesive form and consciousness.

"Then I think you're right. We should move away from here. We're lucky Dennis was the only one sent back this time."

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

He nods in agreement as he comes back over to the rest of the group.

"Are we going into the mountains, or skirting their edges through the forest?"

"I vote mountains! What? I mean, I'm not happy that Dennis got sent back, but since he isn't with us there's no reason why we can't go there now. And from what I've seen so far, the bad things there can't really be any worse than all the stuff that lives in the forest."

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

Fei looks up at the imposing heights above them.

"How many of us are versed in climbing? With avians like the one we saw yesterday, flight no longer seems a safe option for making the ascent..."

"Though we do need to be a safe distance from this creature when it finally awakens," he concedes as he looks back at the remains.

"I guess that calculated risk-taking is another lesson to be learned from our time on this island." (^.^)

"Okay. Um, Fei and Asch are the only ones without any flight options. I assume Fei will be alright if he slips since he's a monk, how about you Asch?" She asks as they start to make their way up the mountain.

The day is starting to warm up a bit as they climb up the mountain, and with the sun shining periodically through heavy cloud cover it's kind of pleasant here. At least for the brief period of time that nothing is trying to kill them.

After a couple of hours of climbing the group (predictably) runs into trouble. A very large bird indeed comes swooping down screaming angrily and its brought some friends. The first roc attempts to grab Fieri. The second one tries to snatch Fei and the third one goes after Amada.

To hit on Fieri:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Grapple: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (15) + 29 = 44

To hit on Fei: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
Grapple: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (10) + 29 = 39

To hit on Amada: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36
Grapple: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (4) + 29 = 33

Fieri screamed in outrage as the roc scooped her up. She was being held too tightly to shift into firebird form, but perhaps if she gave it a hotfoot...

She ignited a handful of flam spheres still in her hand so that they would be sure to effect the roc.
Damage: 20d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 2, 6, 3, 2, 4, 6, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 5, 3, 2, 3, 6) = 59

The roc screeched and clawed and bit at Fieri sending her careening into a rocky outcropping before she could transform breaking her arm/wing and abruptly sending her back to Avalon due to the nasty fall.

Male Kobold Expert 6/Slayer 8

After literally shouting down a first year who took a bit too long to follow him, Vakkler is forced to deal with another 'interfering' teacher.
*Shoots*
*Buries body out back*
*Comes back*

Once he's done so, Vakkler continues with the task at hand. There are now almost no students who aren't in detention. The kobold is no longer attempting to hide his sour mood.

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

Crap - well, that's what happens when I take a lunch break I guess ;)

I was going to question Fieri's plan, but I wasn't sure how high up she was. :P

You know, I've been thinking about the CR problem from earlier. CR is based around a group of 4 people(usually) with a certain amount of wealth on them. Since the students were not allowed to bring more than one or two weapons, the CR system is skewed.

Example: Remember Taron's fight with Jeran in the Snipe Hunt? Taron had no equipment and barely managed to win, but not before he took a lot of hits he could have avoided.

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

Okay...

Acrobatics check to not be flat-footed for climbing...
1d20 + 29 ⇒ (5) + 29 = 34

That should do it.

Fei leaps to the side at the last possible second as the roc takes out a chunk of the mountainside in its huge talon, spraying shards of stone all over him.

Seeing Fieri also get snatched and then fall, he focuses his ki, and then - using the momentum from evading the attack - catapults himself into the air to get onto the roc's back...

Spending 1 ki point (as a swift action) to power up his Acrobatics roll for the jump. Dice don't fail me now.... (o.O)

Acrobatics Roll: 1d20 + 69 ⇒ (13) + 69 = 82
[EDIT]: Oops - forgot the extra +10 bonus from Wind's Grace. Booyah...ANIME LEAP FTW!!! ;D

...and nails the landing (?!)

\m/_(^-^)_\m/

And that pretty handily eats up my actions for the round. Welcome to 'Roc n' Rodeo' kids. Come get some!! :)

I think that's a fair point. I was trying to use the lack of equipment as a balancing effect since most of the characters have powers above and beyond what their level would indicate or are races that would normally add a LA, but aren't really factored in. I think I may have been too limiting. I'm finding that the supposedly ECL 16 group can handle about a CR 12, and more often than not a CR 9 is still in the challenging but fun category. But they also occasionally absolutely dust a CR 20 without even breathing hard. Apparently high levels are really swingy. :)

7.4 Sorry, about that, the kobold judge is always cranky. ;P

In a stunning feat of acrobatics Fei manages to not only avoid getting snatched but is now riding a very confused roc.

Now to see how long he can stay on. Maybe he can even get an attack in before he gets bucked! (^.^)

Okay, so recap. Roc 1 has been injured, but then tossed Fieri into some rocks so she's been sent back to Avalon. Roc 2 is currently being ridden by Fei. And Roc 3 has just snatched up Amada unless she has a much higher AC and CMD than I realized. Waiting for Asch and/or Amada to respond before moving on to the next action.

Oh great, I get to be nagged by a fiery hen... if she can get up the courage to go into Addy's garden! (:<

Oh go fry yourself! XP

The RP of her going into the garden though.. think about it.

Amada glares up at the Roc that had just picked her up. She dips into innate abilities and attempts to take the Roc's mind

Will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

The roc shakes its head suddenly disoriented. Why was it trying to carry off the pretty lady to feed the younglings. Pretty lady was friend not food.

Great - now I want to stat out amphibious flying great white sharks... [sigh]

Fieri cursed her own stupidity as the healers quickly patched her up. She headed out into the hallway thinking she'd head back to her room and work on a new costume for their first stage performance when she spotted Professor Relkav rounding up students for detention. She quickly hid behind a locker only avoiding being taken in this roundup because he already had so many. She made a dash for it, heading for the nearest door...which led out into the gardens. She groaned. She avoided the gardens as much as possible, but on the other hand...was it worse than detention with Relkav? She picked her way carefully through trying extra hard not to step on any plants, and tripped over Taron instead.

I reject your 'Pokemon in Pathfinder' and substitute an Artificer from Tome of Secrets with the new golem options from Ultimate Magic. Iron Man, here I come... (^.^)

Sorry for the wee bit o' snark - just can't stand the idea of the Summoner (o.O)

Male Kobold Expert 6/Slayer 8

*Ribbit*
"What's that, boy? Someone--" Vakkler spots Fieri as she heads for the garden door. "Hey! STOP!"
He races towards her. He only notices where the door leads when it's too late to brake.
Vakkler does an odd sort of pirouette, trying to turn back, but ends up falling onto a tulip-like plant.
"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" The kobold springs up and races out of the garden, frantically picking off stray leaves and twigs. It appears that however much Fieri dislikes plants, Vakkler's tolerance is much lower.

"GetitoffgetitoffgetitoffgetitoffgetitoffgetitoffGETITOFF!"

"Uh-oh!" She fought to gain her balance and just barely saved herself from crushing a hydrangea. "Whew! That was close. Oh, stop laughing, at least I didn't run away screaming like Professor Relkav did." ^.^

Time runs short for me now, I fear... (;_;)

Do you want to have Fei's roc fly off so we can take care of it on Monday, or try to hammer it out now?

Image

Having lost its first prey the wounded roc swooped back around and attempted to grab Jiminy. And promptly had to try to dodge a line of force as a very frustrated young weredragon who was a bit miffed about his friend being hurt decided to cut loose a bit.

Line of force breath weapon, Ref CD 20 for half: 8d8 ⇒ (4, 6, 8, 5, 2, 5, 2, 1) = 33

I have to go pick up the kidlet now I fear. I'll be back in about an hour. So it's probably best to have his roc fly off and we can finish this on Monday.

Roc 1's Reflex save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

The roc managed to dodge some of the effect, but it was still hurt a bit. And it decided this prey was too dangerous. There were easier ways to feed the younglings.

All three rocs circled away and flew off, the only complication being that Fei was still on the back of the second roc.
