And then he meets Kamenwati for the first time...
I started mentally composing a list of all the people with shady backgrounds who have done bad things before coming to Avalon, and occasionally after coming to Avalon....and then decided not to include it because it was too long. The amazing thing is that Phaeze is the first of the lot to show signs of PTSD.
Kitty Tanaka |
"Aha! I just remembered the guest room I had carved out, and that Michael can sleep on tree branches!" Sylvia asks. "Besides, we can't have tonight's chef sleeping in the living room! I wouldn't feel right about that one bit."
"Oh," Kitty said, looking relieved. "Well, as long as it isn't an inconvenience....you're not going to be offended if I sleep on the floor are you? It's just... beds that are off the ground....it feels too weird."
Phaezeriel |
Please don't kill me Kamen, I am not that sort of fiend. I am a nice demon. ;)
@narrator: Well, it helps having had experience seeing, and to a lesser extent, experiencing it.
Phaeze smiles up at Vai, his glowing silver eyes still a bit haunted, It seems that many of us do. With a visible shake, What do you say we play some dodgeball, eh? I bet these kids have never seen a homing dodgeball.

"Then it's decided!" Michael's mother says happily. "Michael can help you move the mattress in the guest room to the floor for the night. I told you getting a guest room carved out was a good idea." She says to her husband, who holds up his hands in surrender.
Vakkler Relkav |
Will Vakkler glare at someone?...
I really need to find a thesaurus....
Vakkler makes a note on an attendance sheet. "I am the professor. Professor Vak--Relkav, teacher of Military History. I hope that you can understand the Mite-Derro Skirmish Series better than you can endear yourself to your instructers. I suppose you lack a surname?"narrator |
Khassar saunters into Professor Relkav's history class. He notices on the blackboard that the topic is a battle that he was a scout for that happened 729 years ago, but for him was only 2 years ago. Believing that things are looking up, he takes a seat at the back of the room and is rather glad that the morning exercise seems to have cured his hangover.
Okay, so I didn't say anything when I read this earlier cause I had one of those nights last night where I kept waking up in the middle of the night thinking it was time to get up so my brain is a little fried. But I realized while doing my math homework just what was bugging me about this post...I thought Khassar was from 700 years in the future...and the Empire to boot. So confused now.
Gustav Stonecutter |
Apologies, professor. I'm Jim, Jim Rivets.
@Gustav. Well, I guess I'm a golem, but I'm not like the majority. I have a rather sharp intellect and can think for myself. I'd never been in combat until just a few days ago.
Gustav goggled at the adamantine golem. "It talks!" he squawked. The teacher kobold's demand brought him out of his daze. "Uh, Gustav Stonecutter, uh, Teach...Professor. I arrived here yesterday. From the mountains. The Headmaster instructed me to take this class." Under the kobold's stare he managed to find an empty chair, still staring at the self-aware golem.
Khassar Blackadder |
Khassar was from 727 years in the past. He got trapped in the pattern buffer of a teleporter inside a pyramid and was restored a week ago (game time)(just like in the episode of Star Trek Next Generation that Scotty appeared in). It could have been old Empire tech but Khassar would not know. He found a box inside the room where he rematerialized that had his name on it. Inside was a letter dated 700 years ago telling him to come here, as well as most of his current equipment. He scouted the area he was in for two days getting his bearings and it was a three day trip here.
narrator |
Okay....that wasn't what I understood during character creation, but whatevs....doesn't change the fact that he's from the Empire though. He can't have taken part in a skirmish in Agartha when he's only been in Agartha for a week. Because he's a half black dragon, he can't be from Agartha. 727 years isn't far enough back for that to have been true. I know we went over that during character creation.
Khassar Blackadder |
How about this then. The only reason that he he thinks it is 727 is because of the note. It could be that the note is an item that only exists in a time loop. Khassar finds it to bring it to the school so that it can be taken back in time so that Khassar can find it and bring it to the school so that it can be brought back in time so that Khassar can find it and bring it to the school...ad infinitum. Remember to him its only been a week.

The time loop is not the issue. Whether he's from 700 years in the future or the past is no big deal. I've always treated it as Ephebe delivered the note to whichever (probably a different version of Ephebe, the current one is traumatized by time travel and avoids if at all possible)and there you have it. Works as well for the future as the past and it makes no difference to me. What I was saying is that you cannot be native to Agartha. You came to Agartha a week ago from the dragon empire. That was the condition of being half chromatic dragon. You have to be coming in from the outside. Your portal, wherever it came from, had a time instability in it, which makes sense because there shouldn't be any portals into Agartha so when something weird happens and one opens then it usually does so with some sort of malfunction. But you can't have taken part in a skirmish in Agartha no matter when it occurred because you've only been there a week.

After dinner, Michael helps Kitty move the mattress and kisses her goodnight. He goes to his room after telling everyone else goodnight, and finds himself slightly uncomfortable. It was his room, yes, but it didn't feel like it. He eventually gets his grandfather's ring and goes up to the roof to sleep on a branch.
The morning comes with a sound that seems really loud after the general silence of the school's room. The sound of the forest waking up.
Michael comes back in from the roof and changes into a fresh set of clothes before breakfast.
Kitty Tanaka |
Kitty was awakened at dawn by a hungry familiar. She quickly changed for the day and tiptoed down to the kitchen, not wanting to disturb anyone if they were still sleeping.
Imperial Chronicler |
Kitty was awakened at dawn by a hungry familiar.
Hopefully THIS was not how Saffire woke Kitty up.
And pray he never learns..... ;D
Michael Dacamara |
Michael is in the kitchen making breakfast, and if it wasn't for Saffire's hunger growls he wouldn't even know Kitty was there.
"Morning. How did you two sleep?" He asks, glancing over his shoulder as he flips the hot cakes. He doesn't seem to have noticed the twig stuck in his hair. "I hope I didn't wake you. I can't be as quiet as you if I tired."
Kitty Tanaka |
"Oh, not to worry. You didn't wake me. Saffire did. He decided to use my toes as chew toys when I put my pillow over my head to try to ignore his 'singing'."
She reached out and plucked the twig out of his hair. "I'm pretty sure this isn't a hair ornament," she said, laughing.
lol, that is hilarious...and I love the bewildered look on the guy's face as he's trying to figure out what happened. :D

Likewise, edited.:)
"I like them. It's very different from my family. Quieter, which is to be expected since there's less of them. It's different living in a house rather than a compound. Your parents are surprisingly calm. Anthony-kun seems lonely though."
Michael Dacamara |
"I know. There isn't much I can do about that though. We were pretty close before I got sent to Avalon. As for my parents... yeah, they do seem pretty calm through all this. It's weird. They haven't acted nearly as embarrassing as I thought they would." He holds a plate out to Kitty. "Wanna hotcake? Unless they've had to change their sleeping schedule too, my family won't be up for a while."
Kitty Tanaka |
"Ummm...." Kitty eyed the plate, trying to figure out how to politely refuse. She'd tried these round things once at Avalon, and she didn't think there was any way she could manage something so sweet first thing in the morning. "I....was going to be polite and try to eat it, but honestly it sounds totally gross to me. I'm sure it's cooked alright. But 'pancakes'? Not my thing. If...if I have to eat this style of breakfast I usually choose unsweetened porridge," she said, blushing furiously, but determined to continue the experiment in not being invisible.
Kitty Tanaka |
"That's okay. I like it plain," she said, smiling with relief as she picks up her bowl. "You were testing me?"
Kitty Tanaka |
"Ah. I'm still not sure I know the difference. Thank you for making breakfast."
She sat down at the table with him and ate in silence for a few minutes.
"So...the twig in your hair? Does that mean you slept outside last night? Only, weren't you cold? I wouldn't like it if you made yourself sick," she said, concerned.
Kitty Tanaka |
"Because you haven't been there in a long time? Or is it more than that?"
Kitty Tanaka |
"Well, to be fair, your ability manifested just before you started being able to see me, so technically you don't really have anything to compare to with me."
Michael Dacamara |
Michael laughs.
"Like anything could." He says. "Kitty, I've done things I never would have thought of before, like jumping in the lake yesterday. Or getting so close to that metal thing at the concert. We could have gotten hurt jumping out of the tree and the chances of that thing killing me... but I had never felt like that before, so charged. I'm starting to think my ability could have some side effects I don't know about."

The simple way to resolve it is that the name of the place where the skirmish he was in and the one he saw listed on the blackboard were just two places with the exact same name, but no other connection whatsoever. That has happened often enough in the real world.
Kitty Tanaka |
She tilted her head and looked thoughtful. "I've never really thought about it before. My obaa-sama always said that life wasn't worth living if you weren't frequently reminded of how quickly it could stop. Just don't get too crazy, okay? I'd like you to be around for a good long time." She listened carefully to make sure no one else was around before getting up out of her chair and sitting on Michael's lap. "Different kind of risk," she said, grinning. "Hopefully nobody walks in just now," she added and kissed him.

So I just checked and other than Advanced PE and Anatomy and Meta Anatomy, I have no idea what classes Enre is in.
Don't worry about it. We're doing a lot of in-class stuff right now because we've got so many new folks who really wanted to play out their first encounters with stuff, but we usually handwave this stuff. I dunno...he should probably take heavy blades and maybe light blades too if he wants.
