This is a reason he's loved so much by geeks. Its because his weak, yet still wins, Ice, he's the very opposite of the American comic book and other "might is right" "Fix it all with a fight" heroes of greek history. The Doctor is the weak kid on the block who has to use his brains to think his way out. It's like making lex Luther or Asimandaos from watchmen the hero. He's conflicted, he's argent, he's old, he's fun and a big kid.
If you want WWF superfights then Marvel and DC are for you, in fact envy testosterone driven chest pounding thumper. Thor, hulk, batman superman, tickman.
All the doctor has is a few tricks and smarts and with that he dos the most amazing and astounding stuff. Just great story telling with a great lead hero who very much loved for being the under dog in the hero games.

Hes limited with an epic god level GM overseen artifact that shuts him before he ever gets to that point.
He's at the school to lose that ability as he sees it as a shameful problem, that's responsible for him being kicked out of his clan.
In no way powerful as it sounds as he's nurphed to hell.

Yes, it's fine for Mel to arrive in the infirmary now. Carl's ship left well before the shuttle that was undergoing repairs and I'm pretty sure timeline wise everyone else is caught up now.
