The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Something some friends of mine and I made for our senior project. Caution: This should probably be considered to have the "Mature Audiences Only" label.

It's in three parts.

EDIT: I'm the guy in a hat and jacket.

I will have to take a look at this. Somehow missed it before the weekend. :)

I did have to laugh at the amazing trebuchet that doesn't work. :D
I only watched the first part though.

Do I need to make any changes to Tom?

If you want I can play more than one person.

Hey now! It did work!

Just not to normal siege weapon standards that are set by professionals....

I think you can try to play Tom as is and then retcon as need be.

And whether you play more than one person is up to you. You're more than welcome to. Several of us do. But it's certainly not required.

lol. I would imagine that building a trebuchet is one of those things that isn't as easy aw it looks...and it doesn't look that easy. :)

Shadow Lodge

Yes, well, lack of instructions we didn't make ourselves certainly didn't help construction.

Plus we didn't have a mentor like we were supposed too...

But it worked! The only thing we couldn't fire was that blue ball, and only then because it was too big to fit in the poorly made basket!

By the way I can be on here a lot so if I post to much just tell me and i will slow it down.

Shadow Lodge

Don't worry about posting too much. Just make sure they aren't filler.

I'm usually the object of that complaint (posting too much). Honestly, other than on weekends when we really slow things down, I doubt you're gonna be going too fast for this game. We're a little nuts like that. :)

Ninja dragon...scary. ;P

I guess this is the place to post my character concept problem. I have read a little bit so far so let me know if their is already someone like this.

My character concept was going to be a bit on the magic tech heavy side. But I dont know if he will end up being overpowered or to vague to work game wise. Going to give you the short version so bear with me. The concept is a "guy" (for the lack of a better term) that was born with natural ties to wizardry, a regular genius with rune, glyph, symbol, and crafting magics. He favored constructs above all and could make golem and clockworks with ease. Cutting out the back story he ended up a unique construct himself but not in the traditional sense. His mind/soul is with in countless constructs so small that they cant be seen with the naked eye (think nanobots) and he takes over or builds himself a body in order to interact with the world. These tiny constucts can also reproduce by taking materials and building more of themselves, as long as even one exist they can recover. These little buggers can also build things or modify themselves at will for a number of purposes.

Any help on this or letting me know its too much on the broken side would be great.

Sorry for the delay, OmniChaos - I guess I'll swoop in as the surrogate mediator here :)

The idea is definitely interesting - it reminds me of the construct swarm in the Seven Swords of Sin module Paizo published a few years ago, as well as the Replicants from the Stargate universe.

I think if the backstory supports the overarching game idea of being in school to master new abilities, you should be fine. Maybe one (or a few) aspects of his new form have not been discovered yet, or can't be used reliably at the moment - that kind of thing.

Was his transformation into this construct form intentional and planned, or was it a classic 'accident' that he wasn't expecting when it occurred?

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I agree that it's an interesting concept. In order to keep it from being too powerful, I would suggest that you make sure to have building new components take time. (for example, turning an arm into a laser cannon should take you a round, anything more complex should take longer, also, rebuilding body parts also takes time...that can be mitigated by adding new nanites)And I agree that storywise it makes sense if perhaps he's still working at mastering the art of transformation.
Nanite tech is not new at Avalon. It's regularly used for healing applications among other things. Aananda has been working with nanite since the original Agartha thread. (Including some oops moments.) So there is at least a basic understanding of what he is.
As a sort of offshoot of the question the Dalesman asked about his transformation being planned or accidental...is he happy this way? Or does he want his old body back?

It was intentional as he was trying to make himself as unkillable and capturable as he could. I would lean it towards the replicators from Stargate somewhat but in terms of how they look it would be closer to Gaara or Shino's abilities from Naruto as they can only be seen when they "swarm" for a purpose.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Just as an aside, while it's okay for the character to discorporate occasionally, it is important that he have a recognizable body most of the time for purposes of character interaction.

Gotcha.

So was there a being or organization that was threatening him (or someone he cares for) that made him desire to be 'as unkillable and capturable as he could'?

His true body is countless tiny constructs, but this is not very useful when interacting with the world. He cant "swarm" into a humanoid body (at least not yet) this is why he takes over bodies, normally said body are freshly dead so all he has to do is get in. He revives the body making it alive but only in a biological sense as the soul has already moved on. He never takes over a body with a soul/mind still in it. So when he shows up it will be in a body, unless the body is destroyed beyond repair which is no easy feat he would have few reasons to change or leave it.

As his whole reason for turning himself into what he currently is, is mostly due to the fact that dispite being a wizard himself he was often the product of their desire to obtain greater knowledge or power. A child being able to school an archmage over five times his age on how to make a better golem does not go unnoticed for long. He was taken from one spellcaster by another time and again. Normally thru force and any refusal on his part was answered by threats. So he turned himself into what he is to solve that problem.

Also he is not alone, his soul/mind can only be spread so thin. Their are more of his constucts then he can posses so they have a hive mind of their own that is bound to him. While they do anything he wants they do have the ability to act on their own and think.

>.< Hope its not too confusing, I dont like to make simple guys.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I have some concerns with the swarm. Okay, more than some. I think that either the bots have to be part of his divided mind or the hive mind independent part should be no more than might be used to make up a familiar. The familiar doesn't have to be weak (see H'Tor), I just want there to be clear limits before things run amok.
Also...would you be adverse to a mechanical body?
And lastly, the last wizard in Agartha known to experiment with the kind of tech you're talking about has been gone for over a century. This doesn't necessarily pose a difficulty to the concept. He can either come from the Empire or he could have somehow gone dormant for a long period of time whichever you think would work best.

This is why I asked if he was averse to a mechanical body. :)

Well, that and Aananda would be beside herself with happiness at the chance to build a whole body.

Male Kobold (Adult Black dragon) Gestalt Sorceror/Oracle Necromancer; Champion of Death

Naw they wouldn't actually fight over em. Krays looks at unused corpses as tools anyways. As long as he has better use for one, who cares :)

The hive mind is not smart if thats what your worried about. They normally dont even appeaer unless to protect him or at his command. Also he can stop them before they can do anything more then swarm/appear so if they get trigger happy at any threat it wont be a problem.

As for the body, he prefers "living" bodies because they make it easier to hide and go unnoticed. Also they have the nimble fingers needed for crafting that most constucts lack. He is practical on the subject, why build a body when you can just find one that serves the purpose. He prefers arcane spellcaster bodies over others but will take anything if forced to. He does not "jump" bodies once he has found one that serves his purpose.

If you want to make things interesting you could say that the last wizard who had access to that tech was the last one to "own" him before his transformation. As a construct he would not be tied down to time in the same sense as others would. Being underground and avoiding people for fear of exposure and capture would explain how so many years would go by without to much of his notice. The body I currently have in mind may explain why he would be underground too. hint hint ^.^

Okay, well, that sounds like we're on the same page about the hive mind then.

As for the nimble fingers, 'most' is definitely the operative word. Take a look at the headmaster's left arm sometime. :)

Anyways, that background sounds good. Actually it works quite well. Aananda got started with nanites because of a piece of abandoned tech that she found in a junkyard that belonged to that crazed wizard. (He was trying to build cyborgs/mechas.) And adapted it to her purpose. So in a way she's been building on his previous research this whole time. Which I think is pretty cool. :)

So I think you've answered my concerns and ironed out the difficulties that such a character might provide. Time to make the character and bring him in when you like. :)

Well you said you needed some stats and stuff so when I build him is there a starting level or anything. I am pretty sure on how I am going to apply the abilities and template, also already have the body in mind too.

Power level is in the mid to upper teens. Loosely pathfinder based. You'll need to know your ability scores (assign them how you like), attack bonus (and how much damage your attacks/spells do), AC, saves, a few key skills if you like.

Other than that we pretty much just wing it. If your abilities don't work exactly the same as something established just find an appropriate equivalent to see where they should be power-wise and model them on that.

I am thinking a Metal Elementalist 17, good timing with UM coming out. That should fit pretty good with his concept and the powers can be connected to his swarm for fluff. Seems the template will take me the longest to figure out.

Well, take as long as you need and jump in when you're ready. And don't sweat the rules too much, this is a rules light game. :)

My left arm is flesh, blood, and bone. It is my right arm I feared you would use a skimmer to replace.

Lasers are to easy to reflect, seen to many mirror related counter attacks :D

Would not worry about Aananda as I think she would be more interested in Solivala and what he knows then trying to best someone who turned themself into a swarm of tiny constructs in that field. Oh man he may have to hide from her >.<

O.O

What seems like a dark cloud gathers around Solivala enveloping him, then dissipates leaving a small note. It reads "Gone crafting, beware and have a nice day."

Edited last post, just in case it makes no sense (^.^)

But really I dont think he would be the type to care about who makes better stuff, more about facts then anything. But that could get him in all types of trouble.

lol. Awesome post. And no, I don't think it's likely to become competitive. Scary, yes, competitive, no. :D

Does this setting have any unique languages, had my guy max linguistics and with his high Int he learned all the languages from the core book with some left over. So anymore languages would be great, for some reason having +3 after listing the others bugs me. -.-

Btw tempted to jump into the fight going on but that would be out of character for Solivala. So good luck and do you get attacked everytime you leave the school? ;)

I think there was one, some kind of code or other than Lysander speaks in. Other than that, no I'm not aware of any other unique languages here.

And it's not every time......okay, so it's every time.....but sometimes we don't even have to leave first. ;P
