Penska shrugs

"I haven't, but amny have had recently. Up until this past cycle they've mostly stayed clear of the Hive. Lately, they've been puoring into the Marble District. Soe of the tavern and brothel owners like having them around, they keep the cutpurses, cully bashers and knights of the post away. They even took over an old warehouse and started a chapterhouse. Now they are patrolling the area."

Penska frowns, his long antennae quivering with indignation

"Nowt good can come from more of the Hardheads about."

“Yeah, you don’t need Hardheads in the Hive – that’s not balance,” agrees Alyse. “Well, hopefully the chant you’ve given us might help stop Rykos from getting scragged … if we can figure out how to use it. Say, how would we know Four Fingers if we saw him? Apart from having four fingers I suppose?”

"Sure. He's a tall humanish cutter, but old and stooped now. Grey long beard, blue eyes. He does have his pinkie missing on his left hand. He likes to wear this filthy sailor's pea coat"

Tsun stretches and knuckles his back. "Who's up for a hot meal? Let's find a good tavern and get some bread and stew." He looks over at Congruence. "Or... something else you would like. Iron shavings? Hot oil? I haven't actually seen you eat anything."

"We are unaware of a requirement to regularly eat. We are capable of eating a moderately hot meal. We have never tried hot oil or iron shavings. But Travel Friend Sara helped us eat delicious fish!"

Congruence pauses briefly, remembering that meal. With memories that so far are measured in mere days, the modron touches on their first feeling of nostalgia.

Sara Moyna wrote:

"A hot meal would be great. I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." She looks at congruence. "Not literally, its a figure of speach Congruence."

"Also, was that 'snow' we saw? Can I touch it?"

Congruence starts to reply, but Sara's clarification stops the modron, who looks at the caravan's animals quizzically.

The mention of snow grabs Congruence's attention, however. Confusion crosses the modron's face.

"We... know about snow... somehow... but never experienced it."

Congruence looks at Travel Friends Sara and Tsun, hoping for approval for them to examine this strange substance.

After a moment of collecting herself she approached and said, "I needed to inform you that Zadkiel will not be returning meow." She pulled out the broach she found where he disappeared, [b}"I was going around with him as he worked on something, I don't know what, he always used a tongue I didn't know. Congruence starts to drop the snow from their hand but suddenly freezes at Travel Friend Sara's question. The modron examines the snow more closely, and realizing that it does not seem to currently be a threat, Congruence lets the handful drop to the ground, watching it's impact closely - preparing themself for it to crash down.

Watching the splat of the snow, Congruence's eyes widen.

"This water apparently froze in numerous tiny individual fragments. Unlike larger ice blocks, these fragments have little weight."

Congruence then scoops up an armful of snow and walks towards Sara, raising it above their heads...

The town of Ironridge clings to the side of Dwarven Mountain like it was about to fall off. The winding streets are steep, and most of the houses are half-dug into the mountainside. The street traffic is mostly dwarves, off all shapes and sizes. A large building with an enormous smokestack squats on the side of one street. Inside the booming clang of hammer on anvil can be heard. Framed within a 4-meter-tall door frame is a giant with flame-red hair and coal-black skin working a billet of red-hot steel on an anvil. He is stripped to the waist, and his broad torso gleams with well-defined musculature.

A gooch!

As the trio play with the snow they hear a wailing sound. A young human female runs along the narrow, cobbled, street crying out

"Fern! Where are you Fern!"

Alyse nods at Tollard's comment. "Let's head to the Doxy's Delight then."

The two head out onto the street again, having got a set of directions from Penska. The Doxy's Delight is in the Marble District's red-light district. Not quite a bordello, not quite a dance-palace, it was more of a cheap bar with pretensions. Behind it there was a large open muddy lot, festooned with garbage. Interspersed with the trash were a dozen small squats, most roofed with rotted canvas, like fossilized tents. A cookfire of razorvine smoked fitfully in the light drizzle, a rusty cauldron above it on a rickety tripod. Penska had indicated the Four Finger liked to crash in the vicinity when he could.

Then the modron looks at the various buildings and structures within view to determine potential hiding places, exciting sights that might attract the attention of a child, as well as possible directions a child could be kidnapped and dragged off without being seen. The girls chattered about the things young girls do: boys, clothing, the local bards and which ones were the most skilled and handsome.

Myriana keeps an ear on the conversation, but her eye is suddenly attracted to a scene occurring in the shade of one of the many crooked alleyways nearby.

A small figure with very long ears and white fur is lying on the ground surrounded by several larger beings. These beings look to be the run-of-the-mill bazaar toughs, still unaffiliated with a faction, but running in their own independent gang. They are kicking the prone figure and Myriana can hear the creature making a shrill cry of pain

There is a small community in this open lot behind the Doxy's Delight. The small shacks' canvas roofs drip with the ever-present drizzle. A sad-looking goat bleats by one squat, and a few chickens peck at the muddly dirt. The squats' walls look to have been cobbled together from equal parts trash, packing crates, razorvine and construction debris. Several figures huddle around the cookfire, eagerly watching one of their number as they stirred the contents with a spoon. As Alyse and Tollard approach they look up warily, their faces set in scowls

Myriana was slightly bored with the conversation the girls were having and it was that boredom that let her catch sight of what was happening in the alley. She turned her gaze that way and said to the girls, "Get a guard, now, there is someone being attacked in that alley. I'm going to try and help them." With that she slipped towards the alley and hid just outside of it to get a view inside while looking for a way to slow them down when they came for her, because they would come for her.

Myrianna approaches the alleyway, the tall buildings on either side cutting off what little light Sigil's sky affords. Fortunately she sees quite well in the dark.

The huddled form looks like an anthropomorphic rabbit. They seem to be in shock, curled into a shivering fetal ball on the filthy cobbles. The toughs look up at Myriana as she approaches, then a familiar voice sounds from farther down the alley

"Well well well. Look what dragged herself in"

A tall slender form materializes out of the gloom. It's The gang leader Zim, his lean athletic form clad in leather and various bits of bone and fur. His platinum blonde hair rears above his skull in an elaborate coxcomb, dyed several colors on its fringe. His blue eyes narrow as he sizes her up

"What bring you here miss kitty?"

Congruence points towards some of the nearest holes, "It would appear something has dug out several holes. Perhaps we should investigate them, unfortunately we are oversized."

Myriana heard Zim's voice and hissed at him as cat's are want to do when angry. "You know what bring me here Zim, let the bunny go." She had already set her water jug down and was ready to fight, she knew this wasn't going to be a good one, and she was probably going to lose, but she would fight it anyway. what he was doing wasn't right. "The guard will be on their way about now, I had the girls go get them before I came down here. Leave now, all of you, and I won't tell them which way you went when they get here."

Zim spits, and then grins, his gleaming white teeth flashing in the dim alley

"You think the Hardheads are going to run right over and help you? You're a bigger berk than I thought."

The gang has stopped hitting the small rabbit person and are now glaring at Myriana. She sees them reach for short knobby clubs stuck in their ragged pants

Myriana smirked and said, "We'll know when it happens huh?" She stepped back and turned as she looked over her shoulder. Her hand smacked her own rear and she blew Zim a kiss as she said, "Come and get me, if you think you can." With that she made a rude gesture and darted into the crowd while making sure that they left the rabbit alone.
