Have fun Leinathan! Hopefully, I will have it all complete soon.

Don't forget the imp barbarian!

Tar'jub - 12 Barbarian (Titan Mauler), Imp Consular, NE, Guardian/Trickster

Have fun on your trip!

Chapter 9 now up

Even if I am not selected. I hope people are at least enjoying the story...

Due to time constraints, I will be bowing out. Best of luck to everyone.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd love to get in on t his game. It looks really cool.

I'd submit a mystic theurge of some kind.

Elven mystic theurge. Conjurer 3 / Clr 1(something with trickery), MT for the rest.

I'll most Likely take some crafting feats and have some unique toys. This will vary greatly depending on level and toys. Effectively this character will be a multitool for party and plot progression.

I'm not really going to able to post a build until Tuesday as I'm on holiday and away from my comp. however I'll try to come up with at least a basic backstory idea. posting from my phone now.

I know I'm late, so if I missed th boat (get it?) so be it.

to be honest i am enjoying making the story, getting chosen is secondary.

I would be continuing the story regardless.

but thanks for the vote of confidence there.

Lessah here - swinging by to show that I'm still around : )

Name, avatar, crunch and backstory is done - physical description and cohort remains. The former shouldn't be a factor in picking characters (I hope :P) and I prefer to build the later to fit the party (if chosen : ) ). There is also some gold laying around that will be spent on consumables (and a bow, I just realized I forgot that ...) but I'll wait with that :)

As always, C&C are welcome !

Also - good luck everyone - especially Leinathan whom are going to have to pick trough all the excellent suggestions ^^

Still interested. Have fun leinathan. Crunch is almost done. Working on backstory.

This is Tiny Coffee Golem.

Since I can't actually post a real character until Tuesday I thought if post this. Sparel is a MT I made for a high level game that didn't last very long. I'd like to play a version of him, but with a slightly different modus operandi. I'll keep this avatar, but redo the crunch.

Clearly I have to rework the crunch, but this'll give you an idea of my build style. Also I may use some of the same tricks.

Basic backstory will have I do with having a disagreement with some of the elven council and taking up an "alternate" lifestyle. My life of piracy is partially to spite them, but mostly for wealth and knowledge.

Hopefully this is sufficient for a consideration until I can get a fully realized build on Tuesday. This looks like an fun game concept and i'd be excited to be considered.

Edit: Oh! I almost forgot. This character actually had a flying ship also! Lol. Clearly he'll lose that, but I thought the synergy was amusing.

I decided to redo a good portion of my character as I didn't like the disjointedness. Hopefully I get him put together in time.
Carry on.

I believe that I am going to withdraw, good luck.

Backstory:

His Oni father was stricken with great lust for his human mother after watching her dance. He could not let anything get in the way of what he wanted, so he killed her husband and took his form in order to make love to her.

When Shauldrek was born, his mother took pity on him. That is until the bullying of the other children drove him to give in to his trickster heritage and fool the leader of the entertainers' guild into a scandal which got him arrested, leaving the guild to fend for themselves.

It was clear to Shauldrek and his mother and older sister that his leaving was the best thing for all of them. On his quest to discover his place, his father sought him out to destroy him, seeing him as a lesser being. Shauldrek was nearly killed, but a cult worshipping the devil dragon Draghignazzo saved him from his father and killed the Atamahuta.

The church then took him in, and he felt at home there in the monster church, no longer feeling the need to alter his garish appearance. He even attempted to train as a cleric, but when the clergy learnt of his parentage, they saw a better purpose for him: to seek out and destroy those who--like the Oni--would undermine Draghignazzo's dominion over monstrous beings, as an inquisitor.

His career as an inquisitor for Draghignazzo has been lengthy and full of toil, but the work has been…fulfilling. It’s taken him many places and he’s felled many a would-be master of monsters. It hasn’t however, paid very well. Tired of being sent on mission after mission to no appraise or reward from the church of beasts, he’s taken a detour from his current mission to fly with the pirates and finally get paid for the use of his Greataxe.

Feats/Traits:

-----------
Feats
-----------

Fleet x2 (1st and Human Bonus Feat) While you are wearing light or no armor, your base speed increases by 5 feet. You lose the benefits of this feat if you carry a medium or heavy load.

Mage's Tattoo [Necromancy] (Bonus) Select a school of magic (other than divination) in which you have Spell Focus—you cast spells from this school at +1 caster level. Additionally, you gain a single spell-like ability usable up to three times per day. Touch of Fatigue

Storm-Lashed (3rd) You can ignore many of the effects of severe weather. In rainy conditions, your visibility is only reduced by one-quarter (not by half ) and you only take a –2 penalty on Perception checks. You are treated as if you were one size category larger for the purpose of wind effects, and halve any penalty to Perception caused by high winds. Finally, you gain a +2 bonus on all saving throws against electrical effects.

Craft Wondrous Item (5th) You can create a wide variety of magic wondrous items. Crafting a wondrous item takes 1 day for each 1,000 gp in its price. To create a wondrous item, you must use up raw materials costing half of its base price.
You can also mend a broken wondrous item if it is one that you could make. Doing so costs half the raw materials and half the time it would take to craft that item.

Improved Familiar (7th) When choosing a familiar, the creatures listed here are also available to you. You may choose a familiar with an alignment up to one step away on each alignment axis (lawful through chaotic, good through evil).
Improved familiars otherwise use the rules for regular familiars, with two exceptions: if the creature's type is something other than animal, its type does not change; and improved familiars do not gain the ability to speak with other creatures of their kind (although many of them already have the ability to communicate).

Expanded Arcana (9th) Add one spell from your class’s spell list to your list of spells known. This is in addition to the number of spells normally gained at each new level in your class. You may instead add two spells from your class’s spell list to your list of spells known, but both of these spells must be at least one level lower than the highest level spell you can cast in that class. Once made, these choices cannot be changed. Shadow Evocation

Hasty Rebirth You rejuvenate in just one day.

------------
Traits
------------
Magical Knack (MAGIC) = Pick a class when you gain this trait—your caster level in that class gains a +2 trait bonus as long as this bonus doesn't raise your caster level above your current Hit Dice. Sorcerer

Paragon of Speed (REGIONAL) You are quicker than normal members of your race, and gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.

Fear Aura (Su) Creatures of less than 5 HD in a 60-foot radius that look at her must succeed on a Will save (DC = 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha mod)or become frightened. Creatures with 5 HD or more must succeed at a Will save (DC = 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha mod) or be shaken for 12 rounds. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by her fear aura for 24 hours. This is a mind-affecting fear effect.

Paralyzing Touch (Su) Any living creature she hits with her touch attack must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC = 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha mod) or be permanently paralyzed. Remove paralysis or any spell that can remove a curse can free the victim (see the bestow curse spell description, DC = 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha mod). The effect cannot be dispelled. Anyone paralyzed by her seems dead, though a DC 20 Perception check or a DC 15 Heal check reveals that the victim is still alive.

Rejuvenation (Su) When a lich is destroyed, its phylactery (which is generally hidden by the lich in a safe place far from where it chooses to dwell) immediately begins to rebuild the undead spellcaster's body nearby. This process takes 1d10 days—if the body is destroyed before that time passes, the phylactery merely starts the process anew. After this time passes, the lich wakens fully healed (albeit without any gear it left behind on its old body), usually with a burning need for revenge against those who previously destroyed it.

Hey! Just popping in to say that nobody's late yet, but I want to put out a deadline by now.

This coming Thursday, I think I want to close the recruitment. I may extend it for a day or two, depending on what happens tomorrow in my tabletop game, but the end of this week is definitely the deadline for completed characters.

I'll then eliminate a couple of characters and ask the remaining ones a series of questions. I want to have selections by this next Sunday.

Yay! The dragon's finally done. I was wondering how you'd justify the mythic Many Forms ability, and I like it.

I'm just kinda putting in right here that silver dragons are immune to acid, and wondering if it's viable for Lucrecia to have defeated one without her breath weapon.

Also! About her name: Lucrecia Henderthane is her human name, yes? What is her dragon name? Does she go by it with anyone?
Also, who were you considering for a cohort? If you have Leadership, please uhm...justify having one :D

Hey! I like the concept, but the backstory feels a little bit sparse. I don't mind less writing, as long as it's clear, though, so I just want, basically, one thing.

Care to describe the encounter between yourself and your oni father, and how the cult got involved in that? Where was it? How did your oni father find you? Why did the cult save you?

So many questions! WHATEVER SHALL WE DO?

How does your character have a nightmare for a mount?

Also, who were you considering for a cohort? If you have Leadership, please uhm...justify having one :D

Lucrecia was aware of her own smaller size and physical inferiority, so she evened the odds by making sure the fight took place in/around water. Silver dragons lack both Water Breathing and a Swim speed, so she had the upper hand there. Water Breathing specifically states that one can use ones Breath Weapon under water so I merely assumed the Silver dragon couldn't (since they don't have Water Breathing : )), so his immunity to Acid was a moot point since neither could use their Breath Weapons.

In the end the fight was hard fought and Lucrecia probably only emerged victorious thanks to her first Mythic ranks. Not that she would admit that !

Lucrecia is her birthname, ie 'dragon name'. I toyed with having a long and hard to pronounce proper dragon name but decided against it since it would almost never come in to play and mostly only complicate things.

Henderthane is her adopter/acquired/purchased surname from her time in Cheliax. She goes by the combination of both now (ie Lucrecia Henderthane), but used aliases during her time in Restov.

For a cohort I was thinking of having a handmaiden/butler/servant from Egorian following her around. Perhaps a halfling slip taken from a defeated rival or something - but the more I think about it, the less likely it feels that a servant is level 12 :P (follower maybe ...)

I'm also slightly hesitant to build a cohort without knowing the other party members - it would feel awkward if I brought along a Mystic Theuge cohort if I were picked together with Sparel or if I had an imp and I ended up together with Tar'jub.

Honestly I might start the game with only a select few followers and perhaps pick one up along the road instead, if that is okay : ) But fear not, whomever the cohort ends up being, he/she/it will have an entrenched and fitting backstory.

Did this clear up your questions =)?

Edit: I realized that Death From Above had a mythic version so I switched around a little bit. Lucrecia is now a Trickster only, using Path Dabbling to pick up Many Forms. As a bonus, she lost Enduring Armour and bought a breastplate so her AC should now be more consistent across her forms : )

Part 1: The life of a listener:

„Be quick, or be dead“.
These are the words Maraash remembers vividly to this day. They are the words told to him by his former master, a dangerous and cunning man, whose name is left forgotten somewhere in the gutter from which he came from, long ago.

Maraash grew up as an orphan child on the dangerous streets of the mega-city Absalom. Fortunately enough, his early youth was a relatively peaceful and joyous period of innocence, thanks to the efforts of the caretaker of his orphanage, an old lady by the name of Mirthe. She was a kind and generous old lady, established enough in society that she was able to take care of the dozens of orphans she found on the streets.
He was a silent kid, often times drawn into his mind, listening and observing his surroundings. Sometimes the other children would pick on him for looking different: his skin was pale, and distinctive blue markings could be seen on his body and face; as he would later find out - the markings of his race.

As the days and years passed, Mirthe was becoming more and more ill, and the weight of the years burdened her with each passing moment. She passed away eventually, leaving Maraash and dozens of other orphans alone and without care. As they would find out in the following years, the old lady Mirthe was one of the rare people in the city with a good heart...

Forced out into the streets, they were left to their own fates. Other, more savage and starved children who crawled and scavenged whatever they could find, did not appreciate more competition for the already sparce resources they could find, often times attacking them and generally making their lives miserable. On top of that, slavers, bandits and all kinds of slum-dwellers ( often time monstrous ) were always a threat of ending up as a slave, killed or eaten alive. Needless to say, not the best environment for an 8-year old kid.
But Maraash was not like the other children: he was not human. His senses were more accute, as he could see in the dark. His form was small and agile, and he could avoid threats with ease. Not only that, he was also in tune with his surroundings at a different level. He could listen to the streets, hear their whispers and the events that transipired within them, by focusing on the winds and air currents. All of these things enabled him to sometimes predict things before they happened, and to find food and shelter. But his life was never easy: often he found himself in life threatening dangers, narrowly avoiding death at times, and keeping to himself and to the winds, his only friends.

For several years he lived in this survivalist state, until one day he was caught trying to steal some bread crumbs from the local market. As the furious salesman was about to punish Maraash with his fat arms, he was abruptly stopped by a mysterius man in a black cloak. The expression on the man's face when he looked at the cloaked figure was enough for Maraash to know that this was no ordinary man, his dark eyes watching him, peering into his very soul.

„You're quite the interesting little bug, aren't you...? I've been watching you... And I know your secret, little bug... You will be useful to me. Your life is mine from this day...“

Question!(Yay!) what of my crunch is incomplete?

Malevor has a cohort. His name is Coros. :P

Checking in to see if Tar'jub's application is in good order or not.

@Malevor, checking in, I suppose it's all there. It's just in a funky minimalist format. How did your character pick up the cohort?

@Tar'jub, everything's in fine order, yes.

I'm just waiting on the completion of the few applications that aren't done yet.

leinathan wrote:

Hey, no peeking. I'm still messing with stuff.

I was playing with the idea of using a monster race mount. I used an HD conversion (using the monster race HD to replace an equal amount of animal companion HD) to keep things more balanced, making my effective druid level 1 (instead of 9) for the purposes of the nightmare. What do you think?
I really just needed a black flying horse for the concept, I'm sure you understand.

Yea. Basically it was a high level game where we effectively had all the money we could ever need. Funny thing is the game never came into play more than a means of temporary transport.

I may have missed it but is there a certain point or location we should have our back stories put the character?

Redoing some things on my character.
New HP Roll: 12d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 1, 3, 4, 6, 4, 6, 1, 3, 4) = 42

Nope! In the post-selection I'll have you guys discuss with the current players where they end up picking you up in their sky-ship.

@Spidre - the thing is, there's no in-game way for a cavalier to gain a flying mount, so I'm hesitant to grant it to you. Especially since a nightmare has so many abilities over and beyond that of a regular horse.

There is : )

It's a new feat (chain) from Inner Sea Combat. It doesn't list Nightmares but it has Griffons. Just a fair warning, it has a pretty silly restriction on actually flying with said griffon :P

Either that or just Leadership for a Monstrous Cohort.

You can also give these to an ordinary horse.

PS - There is no harm in me holding off my cohort I hope ?

leinathan wrote:

When I attained my notoriety as a bandit lord, Coros was one of my followers. After I destroyed Westcrown, Coros had the most human heads on his belt and became my new second in command. After a while we grew to trust each other.

The crappy format is due to the fact that the profile wouldn't let me use spoilers :/

No real harm, no.

I see. I guess I hadn't considered the abilities to be all that significant, especially considering I'd be missing out on the Druid abilities (evasion, two ability score increases, devotion, multiattack, str/dex bonus +3, natural armor bonus +6, and choosing feats). The nightmare admittedly has better Int and Cha (though I don't know why I care), fire hooves (cool, but not awesome), plane shift (again, why do I care), and smoke breath (okay, that's pretty significant, but I can't very well be spamming obscuring mist and expect to keep any friends). The main thing (as I see it) is the flight, for which I'm trading the natural armor, multiattack, physical stat bonuses, evasion, etc.

I wasn't aware that cavaliers not having flying mounts was sort of a thing, but this is my first stab at a cavalier, so what do I know? It just seemed like the Order and the archetype fit well, and the mount, well, y'know.
I'd also considered a demon-possessed pegasus, for whatever that's worth.

Sorry 'bout that, here we go:

Shauldrek and His Father:

Shauldrek's atamahuta oni father fled from the Eastern Continent and made a home for himself in the World's Edge mountain range. It was from here that he occasionally walked among the Taldans of Yanamass under the visage of a human: a practice which eventually resulted in Shauldrek's birth.

When Shauldrek "chose" to live a life apart, it was a natural-feeling course for him to retreat to the mountains--they were in his blood after all.

It wasn't long before his and his birth-father's hunting paths crossed, but as a child, Shauldrek was no match for the atamahuta's rage at the thought of this abomination. Luckily for Shauldrek, a Carrion Golem and his Tiefling master along with a Peryton, and what seemed to be a quasi-intelligent pile of small rocks stepped in to defeat the Oni.

As it happens, in the years the atamahuta had been there he had, like all atamahuta do, been attempting to amass himself a slave ring of lesser monsters. His unfamiliarity with the region and it's beasts made this a much more difficult undertaking than he'd originally planned, and he was forced to kill many of the beasts in the area. This garnered the very specific attention of the Cult of Draghignazzo the Lord of Monsters.

Since Shauldrek had been knocked unconscious and was therefore in his true form, the Tiefling leader of the troupe decided to take him in, seeing that he could be a great asset to their cause.

Redoing some things on my character.

[dice=New HP Roll]12d6

1st one is maxed, so 4 more.

You're shorting yourself hp also. 12*11=132 not 120. ;)

one change on Lord Gregor, Belt of Strength +4 instead of +6 and using the 20,000 on a luck stone. That will give me a +29 to all knowleges that I take a few seconds to think about. So not good for ID'ing monsters, but works well for everythign else.

Back from vacation and will have access to my computer tonight. I'll have the build built ASAP.

Is there a concise list somewhere of the build rules for this game or did I just miss it?

Hang on, here come character creation guidelines!

Level! 14th level, or a total CR of 13.

Race! All Core races are allowed, obviously, but also the following: Aasimar, Dhampir, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Kobold, Orc, Strix, Sylph, Tiefling

Class! Core and Base classes are all allowed, as are the ACG classes (as long as you keep up with updates when the book actually gets released). No Ninjas or Samurai, though, and be careful about having a Cavalier, because a mount in the sky would be silly. Flying mounts, though...fun!

Alignment! Any non-good, with a strong emphasis on CN and CE (as y'all are scallywags).

Ability Scores! Ability scores are generated by 20pt buy! Simple enough.

Traits! Any two traits, please.

Extras! In addition to everything else about your character...you'll get MYTHIC TIERS.

You'll start off with three mythic tiers. Choose a path for your character and gain all of the benefits that you would normally have. Praetorius is a Champion and Belor is a Trickster.

...

Obviously, I'd like some backstory that matches all of this. You definitely need some expanded explanation of why you're 14th level and why you're mythic. You don't have to have anything specific for the mythic power other than having some epic encounter with a higher power involved.

I'd also like some standard backstory explaining who your character is. If you're a templated character, there needs to be explanation of how that happened.

I THINK that's it. Hopefully that's clear. Any questions?

Is this what you're looking for? Crunch is better formatted now :)

1) What's starting gold?
2) What's the rule on self crafting and gold?

185,000gp, as per starting wealth for a 14th-level character.

You're allowed to craft things yourself for a reduced price, but you have to be able to meet all of the prerequisites for items you craft all by yourself. (for example, if a golem calls for geas/quest to craft it, and you can't cast that spell, you either pay for a scroll of geas/quest or you aren't crafting that golem pre-game.)

Got it. TY.

Hey guys sorry I haven't responded till now I've been busy with work/class /stuff plus I was at the same event as Leinathan. I can't post up a build yet as we havent actually finished the campaign yet, but my character and Praetorius' character are definitely not optimized. My general playstyle is throwing lots of daggers, stabbing, and going invisible, but I do often prefer more sneaky ways around challenges than just stabbing my way through them. My characters motivations have primarily been attaining wealth and power.
Belor joined the campaign after my last character died, by being hired by another PC. He then stuck with the group due to all the amazing loot and money he kept getting. As far as major events go, there was all the major plot points of the carrion crown, plus when Praetorius and I bought a gyrocopter and I hired an ex-military gunslinger (my Cohort). I also wasn't originally the party face and I am still only kind of the party face. I picked up the role when our previous face, a cleric of Desna, died.

Kios I enjoyed reading your backstory. I like your character and I know Praetorius really liked it.
