Shadow over Golden Fields Farms

Game Master doc the grey

The Golden Fields Farms are a placid and beautiful place, rolling fields of wheat, corn, and other crops for as far as the eyes can see. Your life has been this for as long as you can remember and though the rest of the frontier might be a harsh and unforgiving land this small patch of it has always been kind to you and yours. Now, deep into the colder months of February you are weathering the chill with the hard work of the fields and the exotic crops your family/employer is testing to increase his yield this year even during the February chill. All in all it's an ordinary day, just like all the rest...

Welcome to the discussion page for the Shadow over Golden Fields Farms one shot. Here you can feel free to ask me out of game questions, check some game resources, vocab and formatting stuff, etc. I'm going to start by listing some reference material and formatting below.

This is the farmstead that the Aurelian's live in. Might also be the same house other non family members live in further off the property.

The barn on the property.

This links to other images to help you get the idea of the size and space of the various buildings and sites you'll be romping around in.

If you are writing in a language that isn't common make sure to put it behind a spoiler tag with a spoiler that indicates what one might need to read it.

i.e.

In halfling:
I really want some coffee

or
Orc gibberish:
WAAAAGGGHHHH!!

The environment of the surrounding area is akin to the American great plains in terms of environment and the american southwest. So think rolling open plains alongside rough badlands. Any more info would be obtainable through the use of Knowledge (geography) in game if you are interested.

Make sure to check out the world wiki starting Here. After that punch in the frontier tag in the search bar on obsidian portal and it should help fill in a lot of gaps.

The Imperium: the massive nation that the frontiersmen owe fealty to. They have a base south of here where one of their legions operates. They maintain the roads and defend the farming villages around the town of Lowerborough. Think NCR from Fallout New Vegas

Frontiersmen: The rough and tumble farmsteaders of the region, Frontiersmen are the descendants of Imperials (often of the Octavian, Calvan, and Anastasian lands) who migrated here once the land was opened to settling by the Imperium. Though descended from Imperial citizens they have developed into their own unique culture and both see each other as separate people now.

Nomads: The native people of this land the Nomads have lived here since time immemorial. They roam the lands on foot and horseback surviving off the lands as few others can. Their relationship with the Imperials and Frontiersmen is often tense as these new groups move into their traditional lands and set up shop forcing them to relocate. That being said they do have a level of respect for each other as many Nomad clans fought side by side with Imperial Legions during the Orc wars over 2 centuries ago. Though nomads include humans it also encompasses other races like feralfolk, orcs, nomad born half-orcs, halflings, hobgoblins, goblins, and Ironborn.

New languages:

Slivic: the language of the nomads. Sounds like Navajo or Apache.

Saradaga: Known as The Sun Language Saradaga is the language of the people of the city of Jaddah Yafif. It has roots in Draconic, Igan, and their own primitive proto-language. It sounds arabic.

How detailed do you want the backgrounds?

As detailed as you would like. Just make sure to let me see what you've got so I can get an idea of what you're wanting to do and okay it.

Man these boards are quiet in Saturday.

I'm just wondering if anyone is building a character that can heal?

The best way to do that barring going adept is to take heal ranks and use treat deadly wounds. Now you can try heal checks without ranks but a lot of the important stuff has a DC of 15 or higher so it might not be the easiest for most characters.

Now I will say that Crec Aurelian can do healing as well so if you can find her around the farm you can get healing as well though she might be less likely to amble off into stuff with you than a PC.

I have a character that can heal, an oracle of Gozreh, a retired townie come out to find the 'good life' and be at peace with nature and the animals. A retired school teacher, with a way of helping people and their livestock through the difficult times. He himself was bitten bya wolf in the past, on an expedition into the country to watch the wilds of nature, his leg has never fully recovered and hindered his movement ever since, but somehow the experience has bought him closer to an understanding of nature and its power, even the ability to speak with wolves and dogs. (OK not quite in rules, but kinda fits the background). You expedition kills animal, finds orphaned young and looks after it.

Dr Grantchester:

The details may change, as I decide what really fits, but it gives you an idea of how I'm putting characters together and if I've understood your build rules correctly.

That's pretty slick dude but remember it is NPC classes only for this one. So commoner, warrior, adept, expert, and maybe the aristocrat. Now that being said accept will probably give you what you're looking for right now. Also as mentioned above this is a home brew setting and has its own religions. Now that being said there should be a few choices up your alley.

Some religions that could work are Oberon, Great Hunter, Painted Bluffs, and Jeremiah are all good choices for someone wanting to be more connected to nature. There are more options on the provided wiki which I will repost below. On my cell so copy pasting is a bit of a pain.

Shadow Lodge

This link is to some of the basic religions in the world of Oki and some relevant information on how they work as compared to the regular faiths of our world and other campaign settings.

This link goes to the specific religions that are often followed in the frontier. If your man is from this land as a frontiersmen these are a lot of the gods he is most likely exposed to or likely to worship.

This link goes to the pantheon of the native nomadic people of the region.

All of these pages are updated pretty regularly so if you have any questions or are looking for something in particular let me know and I should be able to answer it or add an answer on site quickly.

OK... I can redo the oracle to an adept ... if you like.

Got number 2,'Big Hand' Brucce the woodcutter, likes a drink and a fair fisty cuffs fight after a couple of ales. Big strong with a liking for the women, though not so many really like him, cleanliness is next to godliness and Brucce is nowhere near to god. Swings his axe with ease, whilst singing badly with each strike, has a prize possession of his grandfather's battleaxe. Lived here on the frontier with his family, since his grandfather (BBH's hero) settled down.

looks good man save that I think you are over pointed for skills (you have an 8 Int which should put you at 2 points total after your bonus point for being human comes into play). Also you might want to spend some more of your starting gold (you get 260 to start).

Shadow Lodge

Male Midwesterner (We're like gnomes but surlier) Investigator/4

Alright people if I were to start this tomorrow, Thursday would everyone be ready?

The extra skill point came from favoured class ...

1 skill point from class
1 skill point from human
1 skill point from favored class

That's how I worked it out.

Ahh okay man. Sounds good then. Just as I said before you might want to spend a bit more of your gp since I don't know when you would get a chance to spend it later.

Ahh okay. If you have problems checking in don't worry about it. Thanks again for the advanced notice.

Hey there, Doc, TSP here! Sorry about the delay. My character should have everything ready to go for the campaign! As I said, all I had to do was copy past it from the word doc I made and BAM! Well, except the backstory. Had to think that up as I typed!

Cool. Unfortunately it still isn't showing any of your stats in this character's profile.
