Radagast the Brown |
@Irisus: I hate to break it to you, but you don't simply need an energy attack, it needs to be an area of effect attack - so fire bolt or acid dart, for example, have no effect on swarms, but Burning Hands does.
Radagast looks at Irisus in irritation.
"I believe I just implied that I would not be able to sway them..."
Swarms are not animals or magical beasts, so you can't use Wild Empathy on them ;-)
He then winks.
"Let's not admit defeat just yet; the alchemist's fire and oil might work..."
He then throws a vial at the *other* swarm.
Alchemist's Fire: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20, for 1d6 ⇒ 2*1.5 = 3 Fire damage.
@Tariq: Don't forget that area of effect damage is multiplied by 1.5 against swarms, so you just did 6 damage to one swarm.
Beorin Boulderstep |
Beorin watches warily, knowing that his spells would be needed after this fight.
GM Baerlie |
Irisus knows that the ant swarm is immune against weapon damage and mind-affecting effects. It's bites are poisonous and nauseate the bitten person. more questions?
Radagast and Tariq throw bottles of alchemist's fire at the swarm, but only Radagast hits. Tariq's bottle ignates Irisus oil. I marked the burning floor orange. Is there rules for that? If not I'll handle it like a automatic hit and damage like alchemist's fire if the swarm crosses the fire.
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Cathryn tries to keep the ants away from the group while Irisus recalls information about the foe and draws another bottle of oil.
One of the swarms gets closer and most of the vermin run into the fire. The swarm's individual ants burn to crisp.

combat over
The following gear lies in the undergrowth near the body: a rapier, a masterwork composite longbow, two potions, two oils of magic weapon, two sleep arrows, and two flasks of alchemist’s fire.
The bites marring Jace’s swollen face make it nearly impossible to identify the body.
GM Baerlie |
The floor of the ravine slopes downward slightly and the foliage overhead gradually thins. The ravine is wider here, and numerous boulders scattered throughout the area attest to steady erosion. Some of the boulders bear strange carvings and are even hewn into rough pillars, but they jut at odd angles out from the landscape and don’t seem to be a part of any surviving structure. Nestled in the shadow of two such pillars is a shallow pit scraped out of the earth by some massive creature’s claws. The nest contains several branches, the half-eaten body of a leather-clad humanoid, several broken shells, and several large, intact eggs. In the trampled foliage near the nest lies the corpse of a massive, bipedal dinosaur, its tooth-lined maw agape and its hide pierced with dozens of crude javelins.
Several hundred feet before you reach this area, the ravine’s north wall is heavily eroded and creates a relatively shallow slope that local creatures sometimes use to descend into the gorge.
The nest contains five eggs. The lizardfolk have already broken and consumed the contents of one egg. Dozens of lizardfolk descended on the nest, luring away the mother, and hurling countless spears at the father until it finally succumbed to its wounds. There are empty spots in the nest, some eggs have been taken away. You see two lizardfolk which are busy eating the egg's content.

"Tariq could you stealthly take an egg? Lizardfolk are not evil. I don't like killing sentient being. I could give you something to distract them"

Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18.
When the party reaches the ravine, Radagast nods authoritatively.
"I would say that a massive, three-toed saurian ascended this slope only a few hours ago..."
Following the discussion between Irisus and Beorin, Radagast butts in.
"Agreed, we should rescue all of the eggs from the lizardfolk - much better that they be raised as valued pets and allies of the village, then end up lunch..."
Irisus Versicolor |
"Radagast, before we act and i knock out those with a spell, are you sure we should take those eggs? The mother could be still alive.
I know that they are at risk of being eat now, but shouldn't be better to take out the lizards, protect the eggs and then explain to the mother what happen and invite her to be the guardian of the grippli? . oh by the way, irisus has learn additionnals spells after the swarm attack.

I'll take the 2 alchemist's fires to replace the 2 I used if that's ok. Also a healing potion, just in case.

Tariq sneaks up to the nest and takes the remaining eggs and places them in his pack. Stealth T10 + 7 = 17

Radagast the Brown |
Radagast shakes his head sadly.
"I am afraid that I can't literally talk to animals; I can only try to influence their attitude towards me. If the mother is still alive, she is unlikely to be in any mood to be friendly towards someone found in the vicinity of her nest... especially with so many broken egg-shells. I honestly believe our best course of action is to eliminate (one way or another) the lizardfolk, and claim the eggs, like we were asked to."
Beorin Boulderstep |
"I for one do not wish to speak to angry mothers that can easily have us for a snack....." Beorin grumbles.
Beorin Boulderstep |
Beorin raises an eyebrow at Cathryn's words.
"Begging your pardon but it's not as if War is our preferred choice. If I remembered right, the lizardmen eats anyone they can get their claws on. I do not know about you but by Torag's blessed hammer, that is not something to look forward too. If every creature is peace loving and the like, we suren wouldn't have had to take up arms here....."
He turns his full gaze towards her, his own solemn.
"If Tariq goes up to parley and they attack him, I ask you now......" he pauses.
"Ye going to leave them be?" he asks and waits for her answer.
Beorin Boulderstep |
"Then Lassie, I'll be honored to accompany you as we see what you should be and maybe clear or find more misunderstandings along the way." Berin replies with a twinkle in his eye.
