"I also speak Draconic," Cathryn says in Draconic. "And Goblin, and having two people who can speak such languages in a party greatly improves the odds of communication while guarding against mischance or mistranslation. And thank you, good dwarf." she retorts in Common.

Then she smiles and bows.

"My time alone in the woods and my F . . . experiences in life, have taught me that battle is not to be entered into lightly and should be done so only in an emergency. Especially with tribal creatures. I believe kobolds qualify."

As you may or may not have noticed, Cathryn is unlike any other barbarian you've probably ever met before.

FF 1-02

The Praetor seems impressed with the group's array of linguistic abilities and persuasive arguments. Visibly frustrated, Valacosti appeals one last time to Praetor Sylien. “Praetor. I implore you, send these Pathfinders back from where they came from. This is neither the place nor the time for their presence. For the sake of the people of Fort Bandu, do not let them worsen this situation.”

With reluctance, the praetor acknowledges the Pathfinders with a slow nod. Then, after a brief glance to Valacosti, the praetor gives a reserved sigh and says, “As the Pathfinders are responsible for getting us into this mess, I see it fitting that we give them the chance to remedy the situation. I’m putting my faith in you, and the lives of the people in Fort Bandu. I pray that you don’t betray that trust, for the consequences could be quite dire for all who call this home.”

“Most unfortunate,” Valacosti observes with disappointment that gives way to menacing resolve. “I believe you are making a grave mistake by placing any faith in these glorified tomb robbers, praetor. Once they fail, remember that the Aspis Consortium has extended a generous offer of aid in this troubling time. One can only hope that this Pathfinder experiment does not exacerbate the situation further and necessitate our renegotiating the terms.”

Valacosti dismisses himself from the room without so much as a goodbye. Praetor Sylien sighs once more and quickly explains Sharrowsmith's last known location, a Gold Crown mining operation approximately 20 miles away, as well as a rough estimate of the dwarf's travel route. "It's not so safe out there in the Hills. Take this potion as a token of my faith in you. You have convinced me that you can succeed... and so I am willing to invest some of my resources into that success."

The Praetor gifts the party with a potion of endure elements. "If there is anything else you need, let me know. Otherwise, I suggest you be on your way. The people of Fort Bandu are not fond of Pathfinders at the moment. You'd best go about proving them wrong."

There are a variety of magical auras on the men, of faint and moderate strength, but Valacosti leaves before Irisus is able to pinpoint anything in particular.

The Exchange

Just one potion between the lot of us? Stingy! XD

"Thank you, Praetor, we will not disappoint you. And do not be so quick to think that Venture-Captain Sharrowsmith is responsible for the kobold troubles. If anything, it is most likely that he has gone missing in the process of trying to help them with the true problem. We will uncover the truth and report back to you speedily."

With that proclamation, Eskell gratefully takes the potion from the Praetor's hands and gets ready to leave.

(Just making sure that one of us takes it. I don't necessarily need to be the one to drink it. Who's got the lowest fort save?)

Irisus takes a deep breath.
Now that this thing is done, I will tell how the quest for the sky finished. Even if the dwarves were originally in highest level of the underdark, it would takes three hundred years before reaching the surface. The orcs were one of the reasons but it was also the dwarves themselves.

Scheming is not the exclusivity of the humans. Many dwarves and clans during the quest used this opportunity to raise themselves in the social order. This was causing chaos and in the end, the quest has been forgotten.

That, until the first true king appeared. He was wise enough to ressemble a lot of allies, but also sly enough to intimidate his enemies into following him.

When the dwarves cames on all over the crust of what we call Golarion, they were so happy. The quest for the sky was finished.

A few days after, they understood the price for finishing their quest. The orcs were been pushed into the sky. They had multiply, threatening the locals.

Silver Crusade

F Half-Orc Barbarian 1, Druid 1

Listening to the story, Cathryn muses but does not say anything.

I wonder how those dwarves would have reacted to my people. They were half-orcs who shunned war in favor of adoring nature. They fled to find a home for themselves, with no wish to infringe on the lives of others. Yet they were found and butchered anyway. All for . . . something. I don't know. Only that a few yet live, in captivity. I'll find you all, and save you all. If I can learn what you all knew but didn't teach me because of my youth, first.
I know little of the ways of anyone outside my people, and not even fully them, either. I pray we can find a peaceful solution with these poor kobolds. Mother Nature, may they be willing to listen, and to accept my offers of help if an opportunity may come.

Once you are ready and Beorin touched everybody with his wand you leave Fort Bandu. The temperature increases up to 110° by mid-day. The 20-mile journey to the Gold Crown mining operation in the Bandu Hills takes you across mostly level terrein following a well-worn trail into arid and rocky hills. The mining camp is located in an isolated gorge in the shadow of sheer basalt cliffs.

Perception DC15:
At the entrance to the gorge you note the scent of decay clinging in the air.

Hexagonal basalt columns scarred by mining tools line the walls of the gorge. The floor of the gorge is a patchwork of scrub grass and leafless vegetation flattened by frequent traffic. Wooden scaffolding, mining equipment, and trampled tents lie abandoned across the camp. Corpses of laborers rent limb from limb lay amidst the camp’s wreckage, and dried blood darkens the rocks. Several banners depicting a golden crown adorn the scaffolding.
