Scattered throughout the camp you find journals and logbooks. These logbooks also indicate that the Gold Crown Company had discovered an abundant silver vein in this gorge and have worked tirelessly to keep it a secret from their competitors.
The fifteen-mile journey from the Gold Crown mining camp takes you on a long and treacherous route through the wilds of the Bandu Hills. It’s now dark and cool enough that there is no further danger from heat.

Cathryn watches the treating of the wounds, and smiles.
"Back home, medical arts, and healing with wonders, were highly prized, but I was too young to learn them."
She tries to learn something of the healer's art here by watching the men, but is unable to actually pick up on anything yet.
"I would respectfully suggest, however, that from now on anyone who wishes to rush ahead of the rest of us would allow me to go before them as armed escort. If I fall you have lost nothing, but if one of you should fall, it is a more serious loss.
"It is a very serious thing that kobold raiders would come and kidnap ten people. And why ten? Do they want bargaining chips or slave labor? And, of course, as much as I am grateful that those men were saved and can return, I wonder if they will not speak irresponsibly and start a panic, or an angry mob, in the fort."
Cathryn reads the log books, but shakes her head with disgust when she is finished.
"Mining, and even worse, greed and competition! I often wonder if the civilized world is really civilized at all. Cooperation and common cause were what kept . . . What I was raised to believe in. The blessings for one should be shared with the rest. And the sacredness of the land was never to be violated in search of meaningless metals unless something was given back to the earth. Come Zondra. Nicholas, my dear friend, sniff and find!"
She greatly hopes her dog, Nicholas, will be able to pick up a useful scent.

You march through the jungle and even in the darkness Beorin is able to find a good way through the overgrowth. Nicholas is not able to smell any Kobolds in the area although the dog's hair on the back stands high.
As you move on you notice something. A big cat-like animal stalks you.

"So is the cat hungry?"

Cathryn will attempt to help Radagast by the use of handling animals. She is impressed by his skills, and cracks a smile.
Those were arts Father and several others practiced. Could he be someone like them? I must watch him further to be sure, but if he is, maybe he's the teacher I've been searching for.

The cat bares its teeth, water drips from its mouth. You can see its tail moving from one side to the other while the cat ducks and attempts to jump. But hearing Radagast's and Cathryn's words it decides not to attack but to calm down and run away.
You continue your journey until you reach a valley. This ancient valley nestled in the Bandu Hills is well hidden, being almost impossible to spot from more than a mile away. Ancient megalithic stones — most of which are toppled and partly buried — ring the border of this deep valley. These stones, long since weathered by time and encrusted with vegetation, serve as the only indication that humanoids may have at one time settled this region. The thick forest canopy of the valley below hides any sign of civilization — ancient or otherwise — from outside observers.
From the edge of the valley you have to descend 300 ft into the dense jungle below.

Radagast waves farewell to the cat as it flees.
"Goodbye kitty!"

"Ooo! That is a nice view."

He then ambles off down the trail.

Assuming that the writing was dwarven.
"I can read these engravings. They say call this place the Valley of Broken Blood and the city within as Ashkurhall. Perhaps this was what made him risked himself here."

![]() |

Sorry, yes, the writing is dwarven.
Radagast and Beorin guide you down into the valley safely. You find yourself beneath a dense canopy of tall jungle trees. Due to the limited sunlight that comes through the canopy, the jungle floor is largely devoid of undergrowth, save for extremely small and sparse vegetation. The majority of the jungle floor is made of massive root structures from the ancient trees and moss-covered rocks.
You can easily follow the trail of the kobolds and miners, who did not work to conceal their tracks once they got this far. The tracks lead you through the jungle to a flowered clearing 2 miles from the ridge.
The dense forestation of the valley jungle thins here, opening up enough to reveal the sky through the canopy. Beneath this opening, an ancient ruin consumed by the jungle is barely visible. Vines and leafy foliage encrust toppled blocks of quarried stone, tall grass grows up between derelict paving stones, and squat statues depicting dwarves in heavy armor stand crooked or fractured entirely from the infiltration of twisting roots. Among the more notable features here are the exotic flowers — tall, pitcher-shaped, golden blooms with seven petals, the interior of each a deep red. The soothing fragrance of the flowers fills the valley, and motes of pollen drift lazily in the air.
You notice skeletal humanoid remains tucked away within the vegetation throughout the ruins. A closer examination reveals the bodies of at least fifty humanoids of varying races.

Cathryn doesn't notice anything else, because her attention is immediately directed to the plants.
"Cover your mouths and keep away from those plants, boys! They eat dead things, and their pollen puts anyone who breathes it to sleep. I presume that means the plants will try to eat them. Father and the o . . . Father called them a natural defense system, and tried to use them as one. Mother called them xtabay."

Great! now everybody know that you talk Taldan!, say with anger Irisus.
Still... this place is dangerous. Let use some ranged weapon against this plant and let's continue.
Irrius takes a rock on the ground and draw his sling.

"Simmer down, Mister Irisus. I don't care what languages you speak. But I do think I should go first, or rather, that Nicholas should, then me. Would you like me to cut down these plants as I proceed? Personally I would rather not as it would be a great insult to the earth, but if you feel your safety comes first, I will acquiesce. "
Cathryn prepares her scythe and her dog, but lets her mount go in the back of the group, and slowly, carefully proceeds ahead, taking direction from any of the men if they have good suggestions.
"Let me know if you pick up anything, including panthers, Nikky boy."

Among the skeletal corpses scattered through the clearing, some are outfitted with serviceable adventuring gear. You discover a suit of +1 studded leather armor, a masterwork scimitar, and two potions. In addition, several of the plants growing here are key components in expensive medicines, and the PCs can harvest sundry alchemical and medicinal reagents.

While the others tend to the wounded miner, Tariq inventories the found gear. "This armor would be well suited for me," he comments. "And this scimitar is of quite a fine quality. Not as good as you could find in the streets of Katheer, but still quite serviceable to be laying around in the jungle."
I'll take the armor if there are no objections. The scimitar can maybe get put to good use by someone else? Healing is pretty well covered I believe, but extra potions are always good (assuming they are CLW). If someone wants to try and id them and we can split them smartly.
