If you use any consumables from gear that was looted mid-session, the value of those consumables is deducted from your credit gain.
Really? Good to know! I don't think I've ever seen a society GM subtract consumables before. Could be because we usually forget about them, though...
Compucast |
That must be an SFS change. Things like healing potions in PFS have never been deducted so far as I am aware.
If you use the credits that you find to buy stuff and then use it, yeap, that would vanish.
Looking at the guide, it is a little ambiguous:
Expendables: Any wealth spent or resources expended during the course of an adventure must be tracked and recorded on either the Chronicle sheet or the PC’s personal inventory tracking (such as the Inventory Tracking Sheet) as applicable.
I have always assumed that was just from the PCs personal wealth, but it doesn't actually say that. The quote above is pretty close to the PFS one.
GM Cellion |
Actually, it looks like I've just misunderstood the rules up until now! I did a bit of a survey of forum posts regarding consumables looted during the scenario in SFS and it looks like you can use any consumables you loot without having to pay for them afterward. That's sweet!
Wow, and I could have been using tons of sweet consumables all this time playing PFS and SFS :/
Breq Torren |
An understandable confusion! The ruling is probably to avoid extra accounting, honestly.
Hesperrio |
Yes: consumables that you find during the adventure in Organized Play can be used without it affecting your end loot.
Aside from the book-keeping nightmare that it would be, it encourages use of consumables during play so that people aren't being stingy in order to get maximum credits. "No, you can't use that Healing Serum! I'm saving up for Power Armor!"
The player mantra should be: use the consumables you find before those you bring.
Mustachio Marino |
Since you can't keep weapons and armor, and since they only sell at 10% of their value, can I assume that society games are balanced to give you more credits than what you would normally find in an adventure path?
Otherwise, it would take forever to save up any amount of money. In Pathfinder most of the money comes from selling your expensive unwanted gear (at 50%).
Storyn |
Is this all in the same day? So, no overnighting to replace SP/RP?
Hesperrio |
I haven't read the scenario, but every time I've played it, it's all the same day (as opposed to Quest series).
Mustacio: SFS/PFS monetary rewards on the Chronicle are balanced to keep characters in the expected Wealth-by-Level range.
So the "total credits" given out changes, but each character's earnings are always the same (unless you spend your money during the scenario).
E.g. Tier 1-2 gold in PFS is ~516 gp per session. If 4 players play, the Society gave out 2064 gp. If 6 players play, it gave out 3100 gp. If 3 players and 1 GM-PC to make the table legal play, it gave out 1548 gp. But each character only ever got 516 gp.
This also allows you, when writing a scenario, not need to worry as much about bookkeeping to make sure you give out enough loot (and can have an entire scenario take place in a social setting with no loot) or too much loot.
GM Cellion |
The series of missions are implied to all be happening in one day, but nothing in the write-up is explicitly stopping you all from resting to replenish SP/RP if you get in a pinch. Looks like you guys are mostly OK right now though!
Hesperrio's statement regarding RP and stabilizing in gameplay is also correct. At this level it only takes you 1 RP to stabilize.
Breq Torren |
So you'd need to take an action to get them back out afterward, and then could take a single attack.
Ah, yes I got mixed up! Thanks for fixing those action errors.
Compucast |
I was looking through my information and realized I'd got my faction wrong, it is actually the Second Seekers.
GM Cellion |
Just want to mention for those of you who aren't aware: Our friendly Venture Captain Hmm for the Online Forum community has announced a Play by Post convention that will start in the beginning of March.
From what I see right now, there are plenty of spots still available for players of both PFS and SFS to sign up. If you haven't signed up for some games, you might want to do so earlier rather than later!
@Compucast: No problem!

I'm going to sign up for the Fugitive on the Red Planet. I am assuming we will be done with this adventure by then... We will be level 2 at the end?
If anyone wants to continue their adventures with your least favorite actor in the galaxy, join this table! Line 92 on the sign up spreadsheet. Still 4 spots left.
Compucast |
I've already played it unfortunately.
You have to finish three scenarios to move up to level 2.
Compucast |
I'm signed up to play Live Exploration Extreme (albeit with a different character) - but a quick check shows that table is full.
Compucast is free after this, but there are not many scenarios that I have free to play in 1-4. Come March there will be The Half Alive Streets, which Compucast would be happy to tackle with Mustachio.
GM Cellion |
Since you asked about knowledge checks Mustachio:
What Starfinder did was combine a lot of skills from Pathfinder together, and all the knowledge checks got bundled like this. The skills that can be used as 'knowledge checks' include Culture, Life Science, Mysticism, Physical Science and Profession.
You can see more details here

What a perfect time for a nat 20!
Mustachio Marino |
What's the general rule of thumb about playing in multiple PbP at once? There is an open slot in one that I am interested in, and this one is nearing an end. Is it acceptable practice to start the other? (And think it comes after this one chronologically?)
Thanks!
Hesperrio |
Start? No, not acceptable (EDIT for clarity: with the same character).
Sign up if the start is going to be far enough in the future that you can be confident that your current one will be done and then remove yourself if your estimate was wrong, sure.
Also, this one isn't really that close to done.
Breq Torren |
Ya, unless their start date is like two weeks out, don't sign up with this character.
I always keep an extra character who isn't in a game. That way, if I sign up for a game and my current one runs long I can sub in the extra.
Compucast |
I'm going to be away for a couple of days. Impromptu camping trip organised by the family. Please bot as required.
Mustachio Marino |
Just enough time for Mustachio to get some confidence back.
It's like 10 F here in Michigan so it is hard to imagine going camping...
GM Cellion |
No problem Compucast, thanks for letting me know.
Mustachio Marino |
Hi peeps,
I've been thinking about starting my own pathfinder campaign since I'm enjoying these PbP's so much. You all have been so helpful so far, and I am not finding the right information on the messageboards. How do I start my own campaign (like this one, with the recruitment, discussion, gameplay tabs)?
Breq Torren |
Cellion, this was such a fun game! I loved it! Thanks for running.
GM Cellion |
Glad you guys enjoyed the game! I'd like to thank everyone for keeping the posting pace high, even though we had the holidays in the middle. It was a pleasure to run things for you. Chronicles can be found here. If you see any errors, let me know and I can update it for you.
A few notes:
- As far as I could see, everyone picked up the implant and everyone other than Rynner picked up a copy of the Strawberry Machine Cake album. Let me know if this isn't correct.
- The normal credit reward for this scenario has been noted by Paizo to be incorrect, so I've made the correction to the sheets. If you need more info, details are in this thread.
- I've noted the deduction of 50 credits for the cost of the album on the sheet, so keep that in mind if you already subtracted 50 credits from your own money totals.
- The sheets will be shared in this folder for quite a long time, but I can't guarantee they'll always be available. Make sure to save a copy for yourself.
And for Rynner, if you check in here eventually, I've also included a sheet that covers the parts you were here for. Let me know if you have any questions.
Breq Torren |
Thank you! My sheet looks great. Also, thanks for fixing the credits. I had forgotten that change.
Breq Torren |
Celion, would you please mark this campaign as Inactive? (Trying to clean up my campaign page.)
Again, thanks for the great game!
