Rhea Stardust |
You do not see the structure itself you. Just other structures. You surmise this was once a City of some type. And this awful mist.
Bayani Nishou |
"You sound like you know your history, Jask. Mayonia? Were they humans or elves?"
Knowledge(history): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Bayani has his bow ready and an arrow nocked as they walk. His daggers, chakrams, and rapier are razor sharp.
Sharpening a blade for 15 mins with a whetstone gives a +1 to damage on the first successful attack. I'll make sure to keep track of which specific dagger or chakram Bayani is using in order to make sure we keep this straight.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
morning
Ivar washes in the warm sea water and then dons gambeson, breastplate and helm. He adds the grappling hook, rope and a shovel to his pack, placing in on and then equipping his shield and ax.
it never hurts to be prepared.
Ivar stays near the front of the column, not leading but close
are just the PC and Jask going? And is Jask in his skivvies or did he acquire gear?
As Jask and Bayani talk Ivar keeps a keen eye out
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 7 or not
Rhea's NPC |
Humans, master Bayani. Not a civilization worth knowing much about. But they did build structures like the one we saw from the bluff, mostly dedicated to charting the stars. Supersticious people, I imagine. Every once in a while some Pathfinder finds gold in an old Mayonian tomb. You know.

I did not know that, so if I sharpen both blades can I strike with one, flip the ax and strike with the other blade and get +1 for both sides?
Rhea Stardust |
The other NPCs prefered to stay on the beach so as not to steal PC thunder! and Jask is wearing whatever you saw fit to give him. In fact, according to the AP the clothes/armor in the chest with the spike trap that pricked Tusara's finger is Jasks.

Only once per weapon, according to the rules, so not unless that's an orc double axe. Unless Rhea decides otherwise of course.
"Fascinating! I cannot wait to see what we may find in these ruins!"
Bayani beams brightly at Jask.

Strange some stuff so simple should be protected:a masterwork dagger,
a suit of leather armor,
two potions of cure light wounds,
a holy symbol
of Nethys,
and a spell component pouch.
no one explicitly said they picked it up, do you mind if we assume they threw everything from the captains cabin in the chest and carried it out?
@bayani, its a dwarven double waraxe, but it was worth asking :)
Merelinda Falvian |
Merelinda looks at Jask appraisingly as he offers his knowledge. She nods at the info, not really sure what to make of it. The chances of finding anything that could get them off the island seemed rather slim...but while they were here, they might as well explore and entertain themselves. Sitting around all day would likely cause boredom and aggressiveness.
She faces Tusara for a moment, nodding her agreement. She proceeds to follow the more powerful males forward, keeping her crossbow at the ready.
Rhea Stardust |
As you continue, a Mist starts to roll in from the surrounding forest, settling like a shroud over the crumbling ruins. You begin to feel a growing sense of unease - one that has you convinced you are no longer alone...
Merelinda Falvian |
Merelinda concentrates, calling upon a minute portion of her deity's power to light the bolt loaded in her crossbow. There being really not much else to be done, she turns to Tusara, whispering a few words as she touches the woman's shoulder, gently brushing the woman's breast as she drops her hand. "May Calistria's touch focus your mind." She smirks at her own choice of words, then will cast the same spell upon herself.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Cast 'light' on the bolt, then 'guidance' on myself and Tusara (in the order stated above. I'll be happy to cast upon anyone else...it only lasts for 1 minute.
Bayani Nishou |
It does NOT make sense for the sorceress to be in the front.
"Please, let us go first," Bayani murmurs to Tusara, as he peers through the fog.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Rhea Stardust |
Are you 20ft from a building? You don't know. Don't make me put blue squares OF MIST all over the map fir you IVAR! hahaha
Rhea Stardust |
Taking it slow just for fun.
Bayani Perception Check 19:
Suddenly Bayani hears a clatter of stones.
Bayani, you spin around but catch nothing save a sutble ripple in the curtain on mist, disturbed by someone passing.
Rhea Stardust |
They do now. You all hear another clink of stone followed by a hooting cry. Answering calls suddenly rise up all around you, fast becoming a din of wailing screams and chattering noise!
From out of the haze a set of stone stairs swims into view, leading up the face of an immense ziggurat of black rock. Small figures are clamoring over them, hooting and jabbering to each other. Monkeys. Hundreds of them. The majority are small, almost like squirrels with large round eyes and red whiskers. Others are large, with white bodies and coal-black faces...
Rhea Stardust |
Okay, NOW the map is accurate Ivar. Julian, why is my Sasha pog on your character stat portraits face?
Captain Albrecht |
Are they official pathfinder Large with ten foot space or just larger than normal monkeys? And are the big ones the ones shown?
Great more monkeys, here vee go big guy.
Albrecht begins mumbling and waving his hands at Ivar.
Casting enlarge person on Ivar as soon as I can, it takes 1 round.
Bayani Nishou |
Bayani raises his bow, sighting down the arrow at the nearest monkey. Arrow drawn on map. He makes it absolutely clear what he is doing, as he wants to see how the creature reacts.
"Shall I? If nothing else, roast monkey for dinner?"
"Don't think I won't kill you, monkey. It would be my pleasure."
Merelinda Falvian |
Remembering the baboon creature from the prior day, and the animal tendencies of this group, Merelinda doesn't hold out much hope for a peaceful resolution. She pulls her crossbow up, ready to fire.
Should we go ahead and get initiative posted?
Merelinda Falvian |
The priestess's cheeks light up at Tusara's admonition, but she keeps quiet, preferring to let Bayani take full credit for the sorceress's statement. Under her breath, she mutters to those nearby, "I don't suppose anyone has an ample supply of bananas?"
Rhea Stardust |
sorry Albrecht I don't understand your question. The map is accurate. The monkeys are considered a swarm.
As bayani pulls his bow back a heavy silence descends - almost as unsettling as the earlier din -as the monkeys glare at you, their bright eyes keen with intelligence. Suddenly one of the black-faced monkeys bares it's teeth, hissing. Another beats it's fists against the ground, hopping and leapin in an agitated dance. A second later it's anxiety has spread to the rest of the group who quickly resort to screeching and hollering, deafening you once again with their angry savage noise. From somewhere above a stone comes whipping throug hthe air, catching Ivar on the cheek and drawing blood flavor text only. A final warning perhapse.
Do you make the decision to fight you way to the summit? If so, it's time to fight: THE SQUIRREL MONKEY SWARM!
Can't remember if I made corrections to my init table from your comments last time. Sorry

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
just woke up, getting caught up on my reading, trivia question for the night: how do you make the guy with AC 23 cry? Answer: send in a swarm. Actually my question is: is it one swarm of squirrel monkeys or is it eight swarms of squirrel monkeys? Also, Albrect, if you can save your enlarge you may as well, it will be no help against 1-8 swarms.
Ivar glares at the monkeys, looking for the one who threw the rock.
Rhea Stardust |
Consider EACH monkey on the map a swarm. Don't worry, the encounter is balanced. If your magic users and improvised splash weapons and smash-with-rocks ideas are on top of their game:)
Tusara Khione |
O.k, couple of things here. Firstly, I'm going to assume by "intelligence" the swarm is NOT immune to Mind Affecting spells in which case I'm going to Color Spray the heck out of them. If its NOT an intelligent swarm and thus immune to Color Spray, we don't have a chance at hell at beating this encounter. Remember that Sorcerer spell selection is locked which means that its not like we can retreat and combe back with Burning Hands or something :/
Smash with rocks doesn't work, Swarms are immune to weapon damage, ergo rocks which are treated as improvised weapons shouldn't have an effect. Splash weapons are the exception though.
Captain Albrecht |
That answers my question.
If the swarm is made of tiny creatures than it can still take weapon damage. Not sure what our character knowledge on this would be but it seems intuitive.
Merelinda Falvian |
Yes, fine and diminutive are immune to weapon damage...tiny takes 1/2 from slashing and piercing. With this being monkeys, I'm assuming they're tiny.
After the rock hits Ivar, Merelinda shrugs, moves to where she has a clear shot, and fires at a cluster of the monkeys.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19 +1 from Guidance
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Firing at one of the clusters to our right.
Rhea Stardust |
Yes, monkeys are N Tiny, so they take weapon damage. And a Monkey swarm have an int of 2, which means they are NOT immune to mind affecting stuff. But would your characters know that?
Bayani Nishou |
Knowlege(Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Uh, I dunno, would he?
bow attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Aiming at the same swarm that Merelinda just hit.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
... so they take weapon damage...
wahoo
Ivar, believing he has spied the monkey who threw the rock, moves to attack it and its friends
how many would I need to kill to make a coat, 101 maybe
waraxe attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 for damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
at least tell me he got the little jerk who threw the rock
Rhea Stardust |
MAP UPDATED WITH LETTERS ON SWARMS. you know, for clarity.
Merelinda and Bayani rain arrows and bolts into swarm F. Three monkeys are skewered by Merri and 2 by Bayani. The rest disperse into the forest screeching! (Swarm F is “dead”)
Ivar takes a mighty swing at G but the quick little mokeys are able to dodge his axe.
that’s when Tusara color sprays a bunch of monkeys. Tusara, can you specify which swarms your spell hits please?
Round 1
Merelinda - bolt at F. F-monkeys disperse

Bayani - arrow at F. F-monkeys disperse

Mobutu - acid splash on swarm A, but the deft little monkey bastards dodge most of it! (miss touch)
Bayani - arrow at F. F-monkeys disperse

Ivar - axe swing. Monkeys dodge.
Tusara - color spray. All the monkeys in swarm C and D simply flop over unconcious.
Albrecht - casts ENLARGE PERSON on Ivar

Almost squirrel monkey turn. Are you afraid?? haha!
Rhea Stardust |
If one gets killed by a squirrel monkey swarm, is it fair to say one has been "squirrel monkeyed?"
Julian "Knives" Veartoll |
Julian draws one of his Alchemist's Fire flasks from his bandolier.
"I had been hoping to save these..."
He takes a few steps toward Ivar. "Matey, less you want less hair I'd be steppin' back soon!" he calls to him.
Draw flask as standard, move toward Ivar as move. Next turn will target one of the remaining swarms and light them up.
Rhea Stardust |
G and H swarm Ivar! G: 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage; H: 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage. D swarms Tusara! D: 1d4 ⇒ 3 damage. A swarms Mobutu! A: 1d4 ⇒ 1 damage. As the monkeys jump upon you clawing and screeching they are distracting. As your mind races with "get off, get off me!" thoughts you struggle to keep your cool. Ivar, Ivar, Tusara, Mobutu, DC12 will save or be Nauseated. MAP UPDATED. leaving Tusara's colorspray on there for a bit cause I'm so proud of it. Someone can delete it if they want. Monkeys under it are passed out.
