Tusara Khione |
Tusara allows the contact, closing her eyes before leaning back slowly but firmly, blushing scarlet "I've not ummm, had experience...with....that before"
Temporarily saved from going into greater detail, Tusara sits up as she hears a scream "That sounds like someone in trouble!"
Bayani Nishou |
Bayani jumps up when he hears this, hurriedly taking up his bow and arrows, daggers and chakrams.
Is there a moon? If there is moonlight, elves (and others with low-light vision) can see as if it were daylight. I think starlight would count as dim light.
"Come, friend, that sounds like severe distress!" He begins running barefoot across the beach sands, his path to the next cove taking him towards where Tusara and Merelinda are sitting.
"Ladies, I fear someone is in distress, let us hurry!"
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
getting ready to sleep, kilt, ax, torch AC 14
Ivar, who had been resting across the camp pulls a torch out of his pack, standing, quickly lighting it in the fire, he begins to run toward the screaming.
Julian, too arms, those who can let us hurry, we may have an opportunity to avenge our crew.
edit: I listed kilt as his armor, not his only clothing, he is still wearing everything but back pack and breastplate. No shield though because he is carrying the torch
Merelinda Falvian |
Merelinda smiles deeply at the woman's reaction, pearly teeth glinting in the moonlight. This was showing some promise already...
And then the scream. Merelinda's brow furrows in irritation before it truly registers with her that this is a major cause for concern. She hops to her feet, still in her studded leather, drawing her dagger as she starts to follow Bayani, knowing the elf will be able to see obstacles she can not.
Tusara Khione |
Tusara runs through the darkness, before tripping over and falling in the sand. Uttering a muffled curse she snaps her fingers, light flaring from her ring which she uses to light the way as she flicks her hands again, clearing the sand out of her wet hair.
Captain Albrecht |
Albrecht looks up from where he is assessing the damage of a water logged book. He leaps astride Bartimaeus, dropping the book in the sand.
Bartimaeus, follow!
Rhea Stardust |
MAP UPDATED. Up ahead in the moonlight you (lowlight characters first of course) see a man-cage dashed on the beach and broken open. Wooden debris is scattered on the water. A fine looking red haired man fends off 3 savage baboons! But he's not doing very well: his hands and feet are bound together in mantacles that only allow him to take half steps and raise his arms to half height. Back you beasts! he yells bravely. But without help, this will be a short battle for him!
Albrecht: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Merelinda: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Julian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Tusara: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Bayani: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Mobutu: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Mobutu Sese Seko |
Squinting in the low light, Seko sees the outline of a few beasts surrounding a man. He hops up and follows Bayani, sprinting ahead of the ladies, one of whom seems more annoyed than concerned at first glance. He shakes his head and runs harder.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Rhea Stardust |
When you are withing 30ft of the baboons:
Rhea Stardust |
Hang on! I gotta get the round report ready...
Bayani Nishou |
Bayani continues running until he is within 30 feet of of the nearest baboon, and with a sharp, trilling battlecry, sends a chakram whirling through the night at the primate.
attack with Chakram, point-blank shot, precise shot eliminates melee penalty: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 = 22
damage if that hits: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
Sorry, thought I could go since I was first in initiative. By the way I drew an arrow showing which baboon Bayani is attacking.
Rhea Stardust |
More init figuring:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
And some perception figuring:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Rhea Stardust |
The baboons shriek and back flip as they see Bayani appear out of the darkness! They are excited as all gettup...But you've caught them by surprise.
Round 1
Bayani - axe hits A for 6 with a sickening THUD!
Mobutu
Merelinda
Ivar
Julian
Albrecht
Tusara - ray of cold misses!
Monsters
Bayani Nishou |
Is the image accurate? Is he a red-headed elf?
Also, the weapons Banani is using are these. Imagine him as a male Xena. ;)
Captain Albrecht |
Charge!
Bartimaeus dashes at the nearest baboon for an attack, while Albrecht weaves magic from atop his back.
I'm not certain of how this works out, can I cast a spell in the middle of my mounts charge with a violent motion concentration check? Or do i cast the spell at the end of the charge? Or unable to do this at all?
bite : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
damage : 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Violent motion concentration check DC 15 : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Defensive concentration check DC 15 : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25If necessary
Casting Daze DC 15 Will on C.
And a ride check to do all these things I think, DC I'm not sure. Penalty for no saddle. Ride : 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (14) - 3 = 11
Merelinda Falvian |
Merelinda moves up next to the gnome and his panther, offering another tempting target for the baboon...things. At the end of her movement she concentrates for a moment, and now there are two priestesses where there were once one!
Move forward, activate Copycat ability.
Tusara Khione |
I THINK I have my spacing right, The correct cone shape is either where I am standing, or one square West. I'm trying to hit 2 of the baboons with Color Spray, again not casting if someone gets caught in the cone but I think I am currently ok.
Gritting her teeth, Tusara unleashes a burst of light from her fingers, slamming into the baboons. Color Spray, DC 16 Will Save to avoid
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
do we recognize the screamer from the ship?
Ivar charches the nearest baboon, dropping the torch and attacking with his axe two handed, silent as the night
charging C, AC 12
Battle axe attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24 for damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Edit: as a side note, the baboons were excited, doesn't say angry or hungrily or aggressively, are were sure we are attacking the correct side? :)
Mobutu Sese Seko |
Going to bed, so posting round 2 action as to not hold things up
Seko moves next to Ivar and tries to figure out what kind of ape would wear such a mask, only to come up short. He then launches into an elaborate display of twirls and juggling with his quarterstaff. "Allow me to help!" he says confidently before bringing it down onto the ape's head.
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Attack(Quarterstaff): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rhea Stardust |
Albrecht, Is Bartimeus "combat trained"? I have to assume he is, haha! He's a Gnomish Panzer! If so, you do not need a ride check. Also, since you only moved his MOVE speed, you do not need a concentration check. But... YOU can only take a standard action unless you have Mounted Skirmisher feat. And Bartemeus can only take his move action, can't attack. That's basically how it all works. I think. Other players wanna check CRB and weigh in?
So C Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Round 1

I am going to bot Julian just for fun, to see if we can rock in to round 2 tonight. Sorry Duke!
Julian runs forward, double move, between C and D...trying to get between Tusara and Baboon danger. I've no doubt the princess can handle her self. Nevertheless, a rouge belongs where a rouge belongs...between his friends and danger...She will learn that I more than just a potato peeler! MAP UPDATED
Sahsa runs forward, next to Bayani. Here she says, Throw this for me, elf! She hands him a dagger. Bayani takes it, spins it around in his hand. It's a half gram heavy on the back end, but it's a nice blade. Mabe he will consider tossing it next round (it's a +1 dagger engraved with the symbol of a preying mantis. Nice knife.)
A bites the red headed elf in mantacles: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 HIT!
B bites the Julian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
C bites the Ivar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
A does a flip maneuver and ends up right next to Merelinda. He speaks! Who will come to your rescue, humaaan female?
Round 2

Captain Albrecht |
I'm not sure how if animal companions count as combat trained or not, Bartimaeus does know all of the combat training tricks plus the "attack" trick twice so he will attack anything. I looked at the PRD (found a mounted combat section, I thought everything about that was just on the Ride page). So after reading the Combat, Magic, Ride, and Handle Animal pages:
Fight with a Combat-Trained Mount: If you direct your war-trained mount to attack in battle, you can still make your own attack or attacks normally. This usage is a free action.
From Ride, the above is listed as DC 10. Also Bartimaeus was charging and I am unsure how that relates to a concentration check because the page only talks about moving the mounts speed, double speed, or quadruple. On top of that the range of the spell was too short to cast before moving so I think I had to make the concentration check. Dang this is complicated, sorry.
Tusara Khione |
You can cast a spell normally if your mount moves up to a normal move (its speed) either before or after you cast. If you have your mount move both before and after you cast a spell, then you’re casting the spell while the mount is moving, and you have to make a Concentration check due to the vigorous motion (DC 10 + spell level) or lose the spell. If the mount is running (quadruple speed), you can cast a spell when your mount has moved up to twice its speed, but your Concentration check is more difficult due to the violent motion (DC 15 + spell level).
I think this is how it works:
Panther can move and attack, as an animal companion can. Handle Animal check still needs to be made, and IIRC its a DC 10 Ride check to ride a combat trained mount.
Captain Albrecht can take a standard action to cast a spell, which requires a concentration check due to movement. Its currently a charge action, so its a concentration check DC 15 + Spell Level. He cannot take a full attack action unless he has Mounted Skirmisher.
If Julian wants to walk between me and my spell, then Tusara will just pass her turn, I cannot do anything with a party member in my way.
Can i Just one ONE color spray off :(
Merelinda Falvian |
Startled that the creature spoke to her, Merelinda attempts to slash at it with her dagger.
Dagger: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
She then backs up a step, beside the gnome and his mount, creating another double of herself.
Activate Copycat again.
Bayani Nishou |
A does a flip maneuver and ends up right next to Merelinda. He speaks! Who will come to your rescue, humaaan female?
Having a dagger already in hand, Bayani throws it, aiming at Merelinda's attacker.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26 Ooh, critical threat!
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22 Hot damn!
damage including strengthx2, enhancementx2, pbsx2: 2d4 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 16
Sasha's dagger strikes home in a vital organ. Bayani swings his bow from his back and knocks an arrow in a smooth motion, preparing to fire if the dagger wasn't enough. "That would be me, ape," he says fiercely.
Captain Albrecht |
Bartimaeus attacks weird talking monkey C.
bite : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
damage : 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
claw 1 : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage : 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
claw 2 : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
damage : 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I think this takes no ride check because Albrecht is doing nothing and can hang on with both hands.
Rhea Stardust |
No, Julian moves after the color spray init is fuzzy in pbp. But Julian would not block your attack. He would just hold action until after it cleared.
baboon B will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Fails!
baboon C will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Saves!
Rhea Stardust |
MAP UPDATED.
Rhea Stardust |
On mounts, I was going by this as to why the cat couldn't attack:
Your mount acts on your initiative count as you direct it. You move at its speed, but the mount uses its action to move.
And when you charge, YOU take the attack at the end of the charge, not the mount:
If your mount charges, you also take the AC penalty associated with a charge. If you make an attack at the end of the charge, you receive the bonus gained from the charge. When charging on horseback, you deal double damage with a lance (see Charge).
Yeah, I admit, this is murkey.
Rhea Stardust |
Haha, Bayani, you made the Calistrian Priestess fan herself. Nice, I'm jealous!
Rhea Stardust |
Okay I figured it all out I think. Let's look at the combat again, let me know if I made any mistakes:)
Round 1
Bayani - axe hits A for 6 with a sickening THUD!
Mobutu - double moves
Merelinda - activates copy cat
Ivar - askes a super good OOC question, then cuts C in half.
Julian
Albrecht - albrect charges the dead baboon C casts Daze! C does not save because it is dead. AND dazed, now.
Tusara - ray of cold misses!
Monsters - A bites red haired elf for 6, then flips down to Merelinda to threaten her. B bites at Julian, misses!
Round 2
Bayani - just after Merelinda steps away Bayani throws Shash’s dagger right in the face and it dies...
Mobutu
Merelinda - knifes the baboon as it approaches her, the 5-foot steps away
Ivar - reminds GM he already split C in half.
Julian - botted, moves between Tusara and baboons.
Albrech - VALIANTLY ATTACKS DEAD BABOON C AGAIN, HAHA!
Tusara - Baboon B failes Tusara’s color spray save and falls unconcious. C does NOT save because it is truly honestly dead. Due to Ivar.
Monsters - none left alive or concious.
So: A died. B is asleep from Color Spray. C is cut in half and dead.
END COMBAT
Bayani Nishou |
Bayani lowers his bow, and steps beside Merelinda. "Are you alright, priestess?"
He then squats down and pulls Sasha's blade from the throat of the baboon who was threatening the Calistrian. Handing it back to its owner, he comments, "A fine blade indeed. Almost as deadly as you, no doubt."
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
hmm, the man appears to be from the cage and the baboons from here, if we could get the manacles off of the man and put them on the baboon we can question the beast about the islands flora and fauna at our leasure
Ivar nods to Bayani, and says
well thrown
and then to the sorceress
your decision to render the beast unconscious is brilliant and impressively done
Ivar retrieves his torch and using it as an extension to his hand points at the man and then the beast.
Julian, since we do not seem to have the keys, do you think you might be able to pick the locks on those manacles so we can put them on the baboon? I would like to questions the beast and I think chaining it up may be the easiest way to get it’s attention.
can you give us a physical description of the red headed man?
Mobutu Sese Seko |
Seko flings the blood from his staff and bends down to look at the Ape's mask. "Curiouser and curiouser." he says, more to the general state of being attacked by intelligent apes."At least this damn dirty ape did not put his hands on me."
With that he turns to move around to look at the others, making sure there are no injuries. Arriving at Bayani, he puts a firm hand on the elf's shoulder and says "O gbejako daradara, ore."
You fought well, friend.
Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
Mobutu says with a nod to the classics, oh and Rhea, or was that officially Bayani, nice reference to a certain knife scene from a more modern, soon to be classic.
What a great idea for a TV show, "Motutu and Bayani" two elves speaking Polyglot sitting in a theatre giving us thumbs up or thumbs down on action movies, maybe not on a main network but a cable channel would pick it up.
Rhea Stardust |
Julian, since we do not seem to have the keys,
Are you sure you don't have the keys?
Rhea Stardust |
To second Ivan, do we recognize the man?
You recognize the man. He had been locked in the brig since Jenivere set out. You have no idea why he was imprisoned by the Captain. Tall and fair skinned, this red headed elf introduces himself...
Merelinda Falvian |
"Of course you are! You wouldn't mind telling us what those charges were, would you?" Merelinda crosses her arms, right foot forward, eyebrow arched in what is clearly a pessimistic view of the man and his condition.
Mobutu Sese Seko |
Seko takes note of Merelinda's tone and steps forward himself, stopping once he's at her side. He draws up to his full height and eyes the man. "Indeed. And after you explain that to us you should tell us why the masked apes were trying to steal you away."
He stabs his stick into the ground and crosses his arms as well, even arching his own eyebrow in an awkward attempt to imitate Merelinda's tone.
He's only slightly intimidating
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
