From Reign of Winter:

It has been a century since the immortal witch Baba Yaga last visited the world, and the hour draws nigh for her return. But when she fails to appear in the frozen realm of Irrisen to usher in its newest ruler, pockets of winter begin to grow throughout the Inner Sea region. After 1,400 years of perpetual winter, the icy curse of Irrisen is spreading! What links do these strange blizzards and swaths of wintry landscapes have with Irrisen, and is there any truth to the growing rumors that the Witch Queen Elvanna has taken full control of the realm? Can her plans for the Inner Sea be thwarted, or will the Reign of Winter engulf the world?

In response to this thread.

As I said over there, I'll commit to running the first book, at least. Once that's completed, we'll re-evaluate, see if people are up for doing the next one too.

Character creation:
-There's a player's guide here.
-2 traits, one of which is a campaign trait from the above.
-Roll a set of stats with 4d6, best 3 dice. If you dislike the results, you may take a 20 point buy.
-All characters get point blank shot, deadly aim, power attack, weapon finesse & combat expertise for free.
-Average starting gold for your class.
-All characters get 1 extra skill point per level. We're not using background skills.
-Unchained classes at your discretion.
-Standard experience track.
-No third party material.
-4 players total. 16bitcoin is guaranteed a spot, and is considering either an eldritch archer magus or an inquisitor, probably also an archer.

Rolls from the other thread still stand, for people who've already rolled.

Dotting in. Still considering an eldritch archer magus or witch hunter inquisitor (probably an archer as well). So consider the archer role filled up! Haha.

Edit: Just noticed your link links back to this thread! Haha.

Also dotting in, will be posting submission shortly.

I love hero lab...

This is DM Silvertongue's submission. A rogue gunmarshal from the city of Alkenstar turned vigilante witch hunter in pursuit of his own idea of justice following personal tragedy.

Crunch is available in profile. More complete backstory will follow shortly.

Looks good. Can't guarantee you'll get in though - if 16BC runs an archer, a gunslinger could be hard to make room for, what with the need for someone on the team to bring the magic, after all.

Fixed. I had an undeclared url tag, apparently those link back to the thread.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 1) = 16 gives 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 3) = 14 gives 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 1) = 7 gives 6
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 6) = 15 gives 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 3) = 12 gives 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 2) = 11 gives 9

That 6 is just too low, but I like the challenge of working with stats as rolled. What I will do is use point buy, but force myself to use most stats as rolled. I will raise the 6 to a 14, and raise the 11 to 12. Thus, my stats are (15, 14, 14, 12, 12, 9).

It's too bad I didn't roll like yesterday, where I rolled about a 30 point buy in another thread!

I think I'll make a wizard. A fire based blaster wizard sounds like a lot of fun in a cold based area, and by being a blaster, I will be a little less powerful, and so less likely to throw off game balance.

Yes, I have to agree that your character concept is very similar to the concept I had in mind for the inquisitor. Nothing is set in stone though!

I'm potentially interested - I actually already have a possible character (this one), who would just need to be rebuilt. She's a gnome pack lord druid, on her way to Heldren with her pack, the wolves Doreah and Tavi, to explore the causes of the weird weather there for her mentor. Further background and description are in her profile - as I said, the mechhanics would need to be redone slightly.

I am very interested in playing in a reign of winter game. I have some questions though. I see you're new to the boards, do you plan on using maps for combat? How will you be running combat? What kind of posting frequency are you looking for? Thanks.

Ehh. Maps for combat. As I said in the other thread, casual post rate, something like 2-4 times a week.

As for combat; I roll reactive checks for you, Initiative is handled on a group basis, 1d20+(total pc initiative bonus/4) vs 1d20+(total enemy initiative/number of enemies).

From there on out, things happen in whatever order they're posted in.

On the bright side, your companion gets the same bonus feats as everyone else. A relatively moot point though, it didn't have +1 BAB at first level, which was when it gained the feat, so it can't take power attack at first level.

It does get it for free, so like I said, moot point.

I'll be honest that the posting rate does concern me a bit. 2-4 times per week is a fairly large variance. If I think about a game with four players and a GM posting twice a week, I am picturing a very slow game. Would you say that ideally you would lean more towards the 4 posts/week side of the spectrum?

The thought of finally getting to play in RoW certainly has me jumping in with both feet, so I am trying to maintain a level head in all of this and ensure that this is the right fit for all parties involved.

That being said, I really enjoy both the fire blaster wizard and the pack lord gnome druid concept. Very cool stuff.

Edit: Currently, I am leaning towards the archer inquisitor concept, but I am fighting to find a way to not dump Int, since the witch hunter archetype benefits from a high spellcraft check.

Thinking about an older drunken skald

12int with the Theoretical Magician trait is probably fine, no?

As for the post rate thing, ideally it'd be closer to 4 on average than 2, but I'd rather set out on a pace I know I can sustain in the long term and have any overage be a happy accident, than burn myself out after a few days or weeks or what have you. A lot of the games I've followed on here has vastly higher post rates, and that's good, but I wouldn't be able to sustain something like that.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 5) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 6) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 2) = 17 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 1) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 4) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 3) = 10 9

Nice! Consider this a dot for interest; now to kick around potential character ideas.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 1) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 4) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 6) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 5) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 6) = 18 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 5) = 13 12

Dotting for interest

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 1) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 1) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 2) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 4) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 6) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 5) = 14 13

... Yep, 20 point buy.

I submit this character (Penti) I should only need to add your bonus feats and skill point. Will do so once/if selected.

Dotting for interest

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 3) = 17 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 6) = 17 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 5) = 22 =17
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 6) = 23 =18
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 2) = 13=11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 2) = 16=14

Nice.

Ack, I always forget that +1 BaB requirement. But as you said, moot point, and I need to do some rebuilding anyway.

Some background notes for those who may be interested.

Character background:
For my character I am pulling inspiration from a number of the campaign traits, but ultimately I plan on selecting Warded Against Witchery. The short version is that my ulfen family led a caravan which traveled throughout varisia. Due to our roots, we are selected for a risky trip up north to the Kodar Mountains. During camp, my character wanders off to stumble upon powerful thing/place/witch which results in the slaughter of the caravan and his miraculous survival. He eventually makes his way south to Riddleport and from there boards a ship to Oppara and from there to Heldren after hearing about the mysterious weather. Obviously, a huge amount of detail will be added, but that's the bare bones of it.

Any restrictions on the archetypes and alignments?

4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 5) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 6) = 20
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 6) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 4) = 16

Rolling the stats.

The Archlich wrote:

Not really. I'm weary of evil characters, but it can work out.

No real restrictions on races either, except stay away from the more powerful stuff.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 4) = 15=12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 5) = 21=16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1) = 8=7
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 3) = 13=11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 5) = 13=11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 6) = 23=18

Haha, yep I can build with that.

Are you allowing drawbacks? I like Foul Brand (Hand) as it works well with my character's encounter with the artifact in relation to the Warded Against Witchery campaign trait.

GM, yesterday I rolled a much better set of stats on another thread on this forum. I decided to drop out of that recruitment. If I ask really nicely, could I use those? It was the standard 4d6 drop the lowest. I of course will also post the thread so you can verify the rolls.

Are you using the standard Taldan start or is the start moved to elsewhere?

Asking because I have an idea that relies on a Taldan start.

@NotY, those are really nice.

@16BC, one drawback is allowed. I dislike them a little bit, but I'll deal. Try not to take the smallest possible drawbacks in exchange for the best availible traits? Like, if someone takes a flaw that doesn't really do anything, and then comes up with a campaign trait, Fate's Favored and Reactionary, that feels cheesy as hell. If someone took a drawback in exchange for making something a class skill, or getting a +2 to a skill, I could deal with that.

@GM Redelia, I'd rather you not, sorry. No.

@Cuan, I'm running this by the book, as much as I can stand. We're starting in Taldor, as the player's guide implies/describes. Also, a lot of you have probably played parts of it before, I'm thinking. Hard to avoid in this particular forum.

Archlich here! Submitting Kaloora Plimp, Goblin Unchained Rogue :)

Alright, great. I honestly have no idea what traits I'm going to take for this character (hopefully something that'll help him kill witches better), I just thought the drawback went well with my story. The brand will be on his drawing hand, so every time he goes to loose an arrow, it'll be clearly visible.

a bit more randomness
male, odd female,even: 1d100 ⇒ 34 female
ethnicity: 1d11 ⇒ 2 garundi

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 4) = 14 (13)
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 3) = 15 (12)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 3) = 13 (11)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 3) = 11 (10)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 6) = 14 (13)
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 5) = 13 (12)

Hmmm... take the 11 point buy or remake on a 20 point buy... I'll have to think on it, I really am a fan of working with what you've got. Any idea how long recruitment will run? If you've said I can not find it for the life of me.

I haven't decided yet. Once I feel I have a good collection of finished or nearly finished applications, I'll give a 2-days window of opportunity for everyone to finish up.

Okay, here's my (I believe) completed submission: Soliana of the Rose, a Chosen One paladin of Shelyn and her familiar Janus. I believe everything should be complete for both profiles but please let me know if I've missed anything or if there are any questions! I may tweak her background a little more, but if I make any major changes I'll be sure to note them here.

Here is the avatar I will be using for my archer inquisitor.

And a pretty sweet reference photo (minus the buzzard).

Edit: Requesting approval of the Spellkiller inquisition (seems quite fitting).

4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 4) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 2) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 5) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 1) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 2) = 17

9,13,12,16,15,15

Heh. 20 pb it is. I have some writing to get done this weekend. I'll turn my attention to character creation as soon as I have time.

Whoops, I see I goofed and shorted myself on one of my stat rolls! Will fix it on the character sheet tomorrow.

Here is the crunch of my submission.

Logi Nomansson

I will work on the background and other fluff soon.

And here is mourge40k's submission.

Here is SCKnightHero1's submission. This'll be a fun game!

I'll have to fix her stats a bit but everything is good.

stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 1) = 12
stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 4) = 16
stat: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 6) = 13
stat: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 4) = 15
stat: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 1) = 10
stat: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 5) = 17

Kandar's profile has been updated with a HL statblock. A few things are still hugely in flux, but I wanted to publish the general layout so that those curious can see what type of character he is shaping up to be.

CN is my least favorite alignment, that may very well change depending on the final party makeup.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 2) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 4) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 5) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 3) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 1) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 2) = 14 12

i can work with this. Changeling shaman that has an interesting secret I'll share with you when I wake up, GM!

Ooooooh, dotting for incredulous amounts of interest. Let's see if the dice favor me.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 4) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 5) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 1) = 6
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 3) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 5) = 8

Oof. Wow. 20 point buy it is, apparently. That would be an 11, 13, 11, 5, 15, and a 7. That's like... 3 point buy, hah!

I think I'm going to go ahead and step out on this one - I've had a couple more games come up, and I don't want to over-commit. Good luck!
