The main issue I'm running into with my character is more a matter (somewhat) of concept. As a character defined by Law primarily, I wanted him to use nonlethal tactics a lot of the time.
I'm just wondering if that's worthwhile, at all. I have Enforcer and the Cudgeler Style Feats, but I don't know if they're at all worth it if the trials are going to be more of a straight dungeon crawl. I know nonlethal isn't ALWAYS worth it, but if it's useless more than 50% of the time except as a way to coup de grace people later, no need to waste 4 Feats on it.
Well, this is a game where feats aren't nearly as constrained a resource. 16 feats + whatever you get from race and class + a boatload of bonus feats.
ok, here is my guy Zendicar. would love some feed back if anyone is willing.
How did you get DR 36/lethal, 18/—. I see the invulnerable rage, and I see the added when you are raging, but there's still some missing.

using improved stalwart adds +10 to my DR when fighting defensively. the -4 is why my to hit is kinda low.
the DR 8 is from invulnerable rager
~DR breakdown~
Start at 8 for DR=.5 level
fighting defensively with stalwart gives +2 DR
having 3 ranks in acrobatics raises this to +3
cautious fighter increases this by +2 for the max of +5
improved stalwart doubles the stalwart effect to +10
Tada! DR 18/-
side effect of invulnerable rager doubles the DR Vs non-lethal damage
Tada! DR 36/Lethal

I'll have to remember that when I am building my own Invulnerable DR Tank.
Invulnerable rager for a base of 8
Imp DR Rage Power (x3) for +3 DR
Go Dragon Totem for an additional +6. This also gives you Energy Resist equal to double your DR.
Then add Imp Stalwart for an additional +10 (as above)
Aaaaannnnndddddd...
You have DR 27/-
DR 54/lethal
Fire Resist 57

Unfortunately, they FAQ'd/errata'd Invulnerable Rager not to work with Increased Damage Reduction.
Something about how their "Invulnerability" ability wasn't called "Damage Reduction"....
EDIT: speaking of which, Jarred, you can't increase your DR with Improved Damage Reduction.
But still, good idea. Not so sure how it'd deal with non-physical damage besides fire, though.

Really? Which is odd, considering Stalwart specifically says its "damage reduction stacks with DR you gain from class features, such as the barbarian's, but not with DR from any other source." (DR not stacking is the norm)
Eh :P
Also, this is taking one defensive stat to the extreme, theres still plenty left for whatever else you would want to build (but it is a massive feat/power investment to take it that far)
Ah, while we are on a rules question, I found something quite powerful that is not very obvious so I want to run it by you first.
Mythic Archmage can gain a path ability called Mythic Bloodline/School that boosts your class level by 4 for Bloodline/School abilities.
When determining the effects of your bloodline powers, you're considered 4 levels higher. This increases the effects of powers you have access to, but doesn't grant you powers at a lower level than normal. If you have a sorcerer bloodline power that can be used multiple times per day, such as metamagic adept, you gain a number of extra uses of that power equal to half your tier (minimum 1). You must have the bloodline class feature to select this ability.
Where this gets interesting is in some of the Wizard School powers.
For instance, a Transmuter Wizard would have his abilities he normally has access to enhanced.
Which would mean his Physical Enhancement Ability would go up to 20 (16+4=20) which unlocks its next level of power, affecting 2 attributes.
This could be fairly potent with very specific combinations, such as a Conjurer getting a permanent summon.
As for me, Im thinking of going either Evocation or Transmutation as my School. The first would grant me greater penetration of spell resistance, while the second would increase my enchancement bonuses (which overlap with ABP :P).
My reasoning for choosing either Evocation or Transmutation as my school, the first cuz im a fire elemental :P The second, cuz thats how I became a fire elemental :P
Edit: 90% sure Im going Transmutation.

Well, yes, but using Feats on something worthless is still a waste. Just LESS of a waste.

I get some of the same feels when My wizard gets scribe scroll and a bonded object while my alchemist gets craft potion.
I am generally fine with that small amount of redundancy/obsolescence.
Oh. Just thought of something...
I am assuming that the spell costs of learning new spells is to be taken out of our initial 5k? They are probably going to cost a lot...

To the person who said you couldn't get STR and a half on a full flurry with unarmed last page, may I present for your consideration Dragon Ferocity? x2 on the first hit, x1.5 on subsequent hits, and some really nice stuff for charging through difficult terrain in its parent feat, Dragon Style. And at this level, a Master of Many Styles/Brawler/whatever could do some nutso things with, say, Dragon/Pummeling/Janni styles mixed together.
Sure you have a little redundance with Brawler and Monk, but Brawler gets you the good BAB and Monk fills out all your saves, leaving you free for whatever wisdom caster catches your fancy. Empyreal Sorcerer, maybe, since you can't wear armor anyway and sorcs get all kinds of fun goodies that a monk would like. Mage armor, shield, all that joyous stuff. Maybe Prestige into Pathfinder Savant and grab some good stuff like the Summoner's level 2 Haste and the Paladin Litanies.
I'd use the build myself but I feel like making my stabby psychic.
Actually, now that I think on it, maybe I'll make a punchy psychic instead.

Booo... i found the errata. guess i will pounce after all.
EDIT: cam , Dragon totem was also errata'd to not increase DR, only the energy resistance.
Jarred Henninger |
i can agree that dragon totem was a kinda much. but this errata annoys me for contradicting the improved dr one.

So, I think Hammer of Justice is largely done. Anyone want to look it over and tell me how they think it looks?
I haven't picked spells and Extracts yet, but basically they're going to be used for buffs and utility. Overland Flight, Heroism, problem solver spells, etc.
Edit: Replaced Cudgeler Style with Dazzling Display, Shatter Defenses, and Violent Display.

It's a bit late, but I've posted some slots in the Discussion Thread. I'm not sure anyone is 100% complete anyway.
I'll be looking over what people have done tonight and polishing the first Test.

Could we have a bit more clarification on how to build cohorts?
They get 1/2 their level of ABP, but do they get a feat each level?
30-point buy?
Wealth?
I'm going to go with 25 Point Buy and feats every level for cohorts, with 200gp/level for wealth.
For followers who are not cohorts, 15pt buy/elite array and 100gp/level, normal feat progress (make them the "normal" of the campaign setting.)

I wasn't liking my first idea as much so I'm changing it completely. He is now a minor noble trained in the high art of swordsmanship, magic and politics(manipulation as well as the more direct bloody sort). He'll be a magus(blackblade, kensai)/swashbuckler(inspired)/inquisitor(infiltrator). Back with more in a day or so.
