All the drow’s prisoners, including the characters, wear iron slave collars along with manacles connected to iron belts by a short length of chain. This leaves the prisoners restrained, but doesn’t affect their movement or speed.

In addition to being manacled, spellcasters don’t have any spell components or focuses, initially limiting their spellcasting ability.

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

How good quality are my manacles? I mean on average and also compared to the others.
Couldn't figure out how to use the dice roller for a second.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

I know we have lost or equipment, armor, weapons, etc. but are we truly stripped bare and shackled or in common clothes or tatters?

Are the pens closed to each other like a stereotypical dungeon (stone walled rooms with an iron gate where we can hear but probably not see anything not in front of the gate), like an old times jail (where the walls are iron bars and we can interact with each other and see everyone), or something else entirely?

Right now I've been role playing naked with movement unrestricted only being able to see out the door of my cell/pen. I can easily be restricted to sitting/lying, but I'm mostly curious what I can see since nothing restricts my hearing.

Lantern Lodge

The manacles are of excellent quality. It is difficult but not impossible to break/slip them.

You are in the remaining tatters of your undergarments.

Stone walled rooms with an iron gate. You know you are in a cavern and you hear running water.

Calendar of Harptos lesson:

This takes place in Forgottern Realms, as so there is no week. The time is measured in a tenday. There are three tendays per month, 12 months a year with five holiday days inbetween that don't count in a month.

There are no days, rather it is referred to as the beginning of the ride and the end of the ride per tenday.

Because there are so many NPC's after the escape I was thinking that I would allow you guys to control them, with the caveat that I overrule any actions that I see fit.

Would you guys be up to this challenge, if so I would like you to post your top three NPCs that you would like to control. Assuming they escape successfully with you.

Male Half-Elf Sorcerer (Draconic) 3 - HP 23/23 - AC 15 - Perception 13 - SP 3/3

I would be up for that.

1. Prince Derendil
2. Sarith Kzekarit
3. Shuusar the Awakened

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

Fun!
1. Stool
2. Topsy
3. Turvy

Stool is quickly becoming my favorite character.

Lantern Lodge

Jimjar is becoming one of mine.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

1. Eldeth
2. Ront
3. Shuushar

Could be interesting...

Lantern Lodge

Feel free to try and make a strength check to break the manacles or sleight of hand check to slip free of the manacles when ever you wish. Please note that you are allowed only one per long rest.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Hey! Not too shabby!

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

Can you attempt a strength check to break someone else's manacles? I probably couldn't do it myself, but someone else could maybe.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Can I assist Kingsley?

Lantern Lodge

Male

You can help them giving them advantage but you still can only roll once a long rest.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Just to be clear, I stopped briefly when I saw demons but I'm still trucking for the tower.

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

Well, hopefully this will kill one (or three).

Male Half-Elf Sorcerer (Draconic) 3 - HP 23/23 - AC 15 - Perception 13 - SP 3/3

If we all die I am sorry!

Lantern Lodge

Male

Well there is always the escape route of jumping from the tower without the equipment. You'll be alive, but naked in the underdark.

Oh, and because this is DnD on hard mode I am accounting for food/starvation and encumberence.

Male Half-Elf Sorcerer (Draconic) 3 - HP 23/23 - AC 15 - Perception 13 - SP 3/3

I now have a picture in my mind of us playing this same game months later. We're still level 1, still naked, still stuggling to survive in the underdark. We eat strange mushrooms and grubs and know the patterns of the large monsters to avoid them. We've all gone mad of course.

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

That could be fun!
Question: do the drow look badly injured, dead, or just slightly injured.
Depending on the answer, I might just jump.

Lantern Lodge

Male

Well, I made no allusions that this was going to be easy.

By the time you leave the cavern you should be between 130 and 454. Depending mainly on this encounter if/how many of the NPC prisoners survive.

Drow 1 and 3 look gravely injured, Drow 2 looks like he took a deep gash.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

If I can just dump equipment out the window long enough maybe we can do both.

Vothe is secretly hoping the the armory holds his stuff, including his mother's lute.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Since I am past the guard, can I shut and bolt the armory closed? I can then drive some spikes into the ground behind the door to seal it and then dump equipment out a window to the spider web below. I just want to make sure all this is possible from what I see before I start doing it.

If there are wrinkles to this then I'll adjust but that is my plan right now.

EDIT

Here's what I need to know:
1) are there windows?
2) do the portals for the ladders have shutters or doors?
3) is there another ladder leading up from the armory?
4) if there is a ladder leading up to the next level is it bolted to the wall?
5) if there are no doors, is there furniture that can be pushed over the opening?

It might make the most sense if someone joins me upstairs and we work together to get equipment into the webs below while the rest take the dive and we rally to them down below.

It might not be such a good idea to have people downstairs when you start raining weapons and armor on them. Just sayin'

Lantern Lodge

1 yes
2 no
3 no
4 n/a
5 weapon racks, armor racks

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Can I pull the ladder up into the armory from the room below?

EDIT

Of course that's the roll I get a 20 on.

Lantern Lodge

Male

Yes you can but your a little preoccupied at the moment.

Male Human | Wizard 3 | 2/4 1st lvl, 2/2 2nd lvl | Spell DC 13 | Arcane Ward 2/9 | HP 23/23 | AC 15 | Saves S, D, C, I, W, Ch | Pass Perc | Status: Normal | Insp: None

If the demon lands in the tower, I can hold it off for a round if we want to escape. Assuming it fails its saving throw.

Male Half-Elf Sorcerer (Draconic) 3 - HP 23/23 - AC 15 - Perception 13 - SP 3/3

In this second round of combat we could hopefully take care of the two drow. The vrock is heavily injured so we might be able to take it out too, but it might be our best bet to just jump after taking out the drow.

Atendarius

Lenthus

Vothe, Ril and Kingsley I still need your top 3 picks for any NPCs that you would like to control.

Ront, Prince Derendil, and eldeth, although I personally do not like controlling npcs.

That demon is a single monster TPK waiting to happen... I am hoping the bard has the sense to run. If not I am hoping it is over for him quickly enough that he feels little pain and before Bryn and I get engaged.

my plan is to grab armor and weapons and then jump.

No sense diving into the underdark without either, unless you're a monk.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

Yeah my plan is to gather as much as I can, hope people do the same, and then draw the demon to the dead bodies. Hopefully it is injured and wants to eat them instead of chasing down still living prey.

Lantern Lodge

Male

So here's the deal, you have earned enough XP with this fight to level up to 2nd, but I'm not gonna let you until you take a long rest.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3; AC 14, HP 0/0*, perception 10, spells: 1st - 2/3

That just makes sense.

Ya, in 4th edition I found it made the most sense not to let people level until they rested.

Sweet! Hopefully we can find us some shelter and food soon so we can take the rest.

If we make a backup character, what are the starting equipment guidelines?
I thought it would be a) Normal starting wealth and equipment. b) Nothing. Or c) The value of the wealth that the other players have.
If it is b, could a wizard backup start with a spellbook?
