GM Hmm |
Yeah, Stali missed...
Bite, AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
...but so did Alizna!
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-14), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
Everyone but Stali is up!
Sarano Snowfeather |
Sarano moves up into the room, fuming that this stupid spider creature made fun of her!
"Hmph, fine have two missiles!"
Sarano fires off a magic missile, her feathers ruffling from the magics.
Magic Missile CL3: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5
K'Kei Hikaru |
Hikaru slashes at the monstrous spidery-woman thing...
"You'll be dead before you can snack on anyone, monster!"
to hit: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
dmg if hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
GM Hmm |
Pew-pew! Sarano fires two missiles, doing another five points of damage.
Hikaru, I'll let you keep that roll later, but I think you'll have to double move before you can get to Alizna. (It is safe to peek at the map now.)
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-14), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, and Gallako are up!
Chak Yuen Chen |
Chak works to free himself from the webs with some muffled sounds.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
If Chak frees himself he will study Alizna with a move action and then step closer.
GM Hmm |
Chak bursts the web, with sticky strands flying everywhere!
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-14), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
Andrietta, Vralk and Gallako are up!
K'Kei Hikaru |
Hikaru charges Alizna, moving easily through the channel between sarano and Chak.
I'll take the +2 for charge instead of flanking - I was looking at the old map and was already next to her with a flank buddy on that one... but that was the original pig fight i think
GM Hmm |
It's on SLIDE FIVE. Do you need someone to double move you? There is no charge possible as there is no straight line between you and her.
K'Kei Hikaru |
I had already moved myself... and i found a straight line between sarano and chak.. it was a diagonal line, but it was a straight diagonal line. if not, he does have a move rate of 40 when wielding a sword... I didn't check the distance, just figured it was a double move, but if he was 40' away, he could do it in a single move. Otherwise, he'd move within a single move from her and then close next round.
GM Hmm |
Can someone draw the path for me, because I see no straight line that doesn't go through a wall... I'm sorry Hikaru if I am being dense. Are we looking at the same slide? Slide five?
Chak Yuen Chen |
If Hikaru's position on the map is his correct starting position, it would take 55 feet of movement to get into melee with Alizna and there is definitely a wall in the way. Might be 60 if going through that last door on a diagonal is not allowed.
K'Kei Hikaru |
I don't see a wall... it's all just open white space on my slide 5 - never mind... i was looking at wrong slide #12 actually... let me refigure movement... hang on.... done now... just moved..
GM Hmm |
Thank you all. I have also now labeled slide twelve for what it is. It's my "mini" box, where I hang on to avatars that I am not currently using.
__
Hikaru double moves, readying for an awesome attack on his next turn!
Andrietta Ebonfeather |
The grandmother comes clanking along, muttering a bit about old age and bones even as Alizna offers her seemingly witty riposte.
"No, dear. I was hoping, just hoping there was some bit of good in you."
Failing to find her quarterstaff, she draws her cold iron katana as she moves with a bit of a slump to her shoulders.
Double Move again. Not stepping in anything stupid to get there, hopefully.
GM Hmm |
I totally missed Gallako's post! So, we can move forward!
Alizna eyes you all, balefully. "So... It is like that, is it?"
Casting Defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Mirror Images: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
She moves her limbs back and forth, muttering, and suddenly there are four of her!
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-14, 3i), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
The whole party is up! When rolling to see if you hit the real Alizna, roll for the images. A roll of one will always hit Alizna.
Chak Yuen Chen |
Chak steps into flank and tries to shred anything that looks like an Alizna.
Claw: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 10
Damage: 1d3 + 3 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 + 4 + (1) = 11
Claw: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 9
Damage: 1d3 + 3 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 + 4 + (5) = 14
Bite: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 16
Damage: 1d3 + 3 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 + 4 + (3) = 14
Remember that a miss by 5 or less always destroys an image. That's something a lot of people forget when running mirror image. (Of course with those rolls it seems like it doesn't really matter.)
3 images: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Stali One-Penny |
Stali tries to guess which is the real one and strikes!
Image: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Aldori Dueling Sword, flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Sneak Attack damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
Andrietta Ebonfeather |
The grandmother slumps a little bit before straightening up, stepping forward to slash at the multi-limbed caster...
"You're the one insisting on this, dear. I'm sorry. You could do so much good in the world with your skills."
MWK Cold Iron Katana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Image hit?: 1d3 ⇒ 1 Guessing at three because it looked like Stali might have hit
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
K'Kei Hikaru |
Hikaru steps forward and strikes at Alizna.
use previous roll?...
to hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
dmg if hits: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
hit what?: 1d3 ⇒ 1
GM Hmm |
Chak misses twice but his third hit comes close enough to hit an image!
With one image already gone, re-rolling whether Stali might have hit an image or the real thing...
Hit the Real Alizna?: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Stali takes out another image!
Andrietta just barely misses Alizna, taking out another image!
With all three images gone (and using Hikaru's prior roll) the Swashbuckler hits the real Alizna for seven points of damage.
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-21), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
Vralk, Sarano, and Gallako are all up!
Stali One-Penny |

Kill? Evidently he hasn't been a part of some of the briefings I have.
Stali glances over at Gallako and mentions "I know there is some confusion on this point, but that last part isn't actually part of the Pathfinder code."
Murderhobos unite!
Sarano Snowfeather |

Frowning at how much a beating this stupid spider is taking, Sarano will create another powerful magic missile, forgoing her wand and instead channeling her inner celestial power to attack the creature.
magic missile cl3: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
"Your illusions won't work against my magic!"
GM Hmm |
Vralk cowers. Gallako inspires courage and raises the flag. Sarano shoots off another set of beautiful bird shaped force missiles!
Alizna chooses her next target from the tasty snacks all around her. Of these, Chak and Andrietta look the most formidable to her.
Coinflip, Chak is 1, Andrietta 2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Want to give me a fort save vs poison, Chak?
Strength Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
ORDER: Chak, Andrietta, Vralk, Sarano, Alizna (-29), Stali, Hikaru, Gallako
The whole party is up!
Stali One-Penny |
As Alizna turns to strike at Chak, Stali lines up his own attack. He tries to time his strike so it hits just as she is drawing back from the bite.
Aldori Dueling Sword, flanking, flag: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 26
Damage, flag, sneak attack: 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 + (1, 4) = 14
GM Hmm |
And... Stali brings her down with a very precise attack at the hump on her back that housed her real brain. Alizna falls, bleeding.
-- COMBAT OVER --
As she does, her body melts back into the form of a horrific and very dead looking spider.
Stali One-Penny |
Confused, Stali asks "So she was really a spider pretending to be a human?"
He carefully wipes the gore off his sword as he asks this.
GM Hmm |
Good question! There is a Knowledge Arcana spoiler way back in Gameplay if anyone wants to know what she was. Now that combat is over, I'm willing to let you look at it. However, you can only act on the knowledge within if you were able to roll for the spoiler.
Perception, Andrietta: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Perception, Chak: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13

Perception, Hikaru: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Perception, Sarano: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Perception, Stali: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Perception, Vralk: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Where do you go next?
Stali One-Penny |
Sarano Snowfeather |
Motioning to her companions, a bit out of breath, "Phew, all that magic was exhausting me. . huff. Look over there an alchemists lab, and look the creature labeled everything, how convenient,"
Andrietta Ebonfeather |
Andrietta will carefully sheathe her blade as she steps away from any of the bad stuff and makes sure that she hasn't gotten any gunk on her.
"I hope you have a better go of it next time around, dear."
Do not have Arcana, Nature or Dungeoneering to identify her.
"Did we miss anything running back here? Maybe we can check to be sure?"
The grandmother will start heading back to the other rooms the party ran through, taking a keen eye to them to make sure nothing was missed in the rush.
Chak Yuen Chen |
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Chak starts to feel a wee bit woozy.
I'll throw some additional saves here until I make one. I don't know if anyone here has the heal skill to try to help.
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
GM Hmm |
Chak, darling, did you quaff an anti-toxin at any point? There were tons of them floating around in this adventure.
Chak Yuen Chen |
I guess I missed that there were, so apparently not.
Stali One-Penny |
In reply to Andrietta, Stali gestures towards the next room and says "That mound with the mushrooms seemed to move. Be careful around it!"
Pointing to the stairways in this room, he asks "Shall I quickly check below, or would everyone prefer I wait until we have regrouped?"
Andrietta Ebonfeather |
"Let's get regrouped and is everyone feeling okay? I can take a few moments to help you recover if you need it?"
The grandmother pulls out her wand of Lesser Restoration and offers it helpfully.
Gallako Tenkarlyion |
Gallako would cast guidance multiple times and then try and figure things out

"Watch out for that mass of vegetation. Its a Slime Mold!!!!. And Vralk, you can come back now. The nasty thing is quite dead"
GM Hmm |
And I'm back. Yay! Gallako... Psst. Slimes are Knowledge Dungeoneering. You don't know what it is.
The mass of vegetation covered in mushrooms heaves a few times, but is oddly quiescent as you walk around it. It is definitely alive, but somehow inert?
Meanwhile, Chak makes a second save against the poison, managing to end with only one strength down. Andrietta waves her stick of lesser restoration meaningfully at Chak, as if threatening to Gibbs-slap him with it.
So... am I hearing that you all are headed to the basement next? Also please note all the survival gear that Gallako, Sarano and Vralk found. I am assuming they show you the potions, allowing you to click the spoiler.
GM Hmm |
Stali leads the way down the stairs, to the basement!
The walls of this low-ceilinged basement are decorated by curtains made out of a mix of thick sheets of webs adorned with countless dead insects. Most of these are flies and mosquitoes, some of which are quite large. At the far end of the room sits a low wooden table on which a hideous shape crouches—a human-sized statue of an insectile monster made from corn husks, dry branches, rags, and bones. The floor of the room is an uneven layer of moist soil and earth, and three shovels, their blades caked with earth, lean against the side of the stairs.
Perception, Andrietta: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Perception, Chak: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Perception, Gallako: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Perception, Stali: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Perception, Vralk: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Underneath the table lie a dozen unused cultists robes and masks, tumbled together in a box.
You detect a faint stink of rot and decay, a stink that's stronger near the dirt floor below you.

"Do I want to know what they have buried down here?" Stali asks, seeing the shovels. He is very careful about where he steps as he moves about through the room.
Which is better for detecting signs of recent digging, Survival or Perception?
GM Hmm |
Either will work. Give me your best roll.
GM Hmm |
Gallako Tenkarlyion |
And I'm back. Yay! Gallako... Psst. Slimes are Knowledge Dungeoneering. You don't know what it is.
Oops. Sorry, I must have gotten confused.
Yes, would have shown them the stuff
"Do we want to know? Probabky not. Do we NEED to know? Almost certainly yes. Lets start digging :-("
Stali One-Penny |
"Smells like something is rotting." Stali says as he grabs one of the shovels.
Pointing up at the ceiling with the blade of the shovel, he adds "Looks like there is a trap door above to dump people from the room above down here."
With that, Stali carefully starts digging in one of the locations where it looks (and smells) like something has been buried.
GM Hmm |
The team starts digging and finds eight bodies, some with clothing styles that look nothing like what if commonly found in Ravenmoor. Many of them are nothing more than skeletons now, but a few are much fresher. The freshest still bears a full head of red hair and wears a suit of ruined nobleman's clothes.
Stali One-Penny |
Grimacing, Stali says "It appears we have our answer. I wonder how many in the village will be surprised by this." At least we can give him a proper burial now. Or maybe not...
After a moment, Stali shakes his head sadly and notes "Somehow I doubt this village has consecrated ground. I think we will be need to build a pyre tomorrow. At least those who didn't know what was going on here will have evidence we can show them."
K'Kei Hikaru |
"This is all distressing... These people are insane, I think. Sacrificing people to a moth-god? and doing this to their bodies? They need to be stopped. I wonder if the whole town knows and is in on it, or just a deranged few."
