GM Hmm |
Chak, Andrietta, Stali and Hikaru all offer Sarano a growing pile of armor, fancy clothes and other gear. Gallako is able to step back with relief, without volunteering. The villagers cheer noisily as the feathered newcomers approach the muddy enclosure, elbowing each other with excitement.
"A walking stick?! Preposter..." Mayor looks like he might object to the walking stick, but then changes his mind as Arthur and Owen rush up to offer to help the elderly grandmother Tengu go over the fence, and other villagers turn to glare at him. "...possibly the finest idea I've heard in some time. Of course, dear lady. Of course!" He determinedly beams at all of you, then turns to Sarano. "And you wish to bless them, child? Of course, of course! Do so in the name of the Dreamer whom we all worship!"
Perception, Andrietta: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Perception, Chak: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Perception, Hikaru: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Perception, Stali: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
You all enter the muddy enclosure. The mud makes plopping and slurping noises as you walk through. The small squealing pig runs back and forth, almost tottering in its confusion. Sarano casts bless on all of you, and you begin!
I was going to roll initiative, but this is PbP, and the pig only runs and squeals right now, tottering back and forth in porcine distress. You all get to do a move, and a grapple check. The enclosure is small enough that you can always move towards the pig. Go to it, pig wrestlers!
Round 1
Andrietta, Chak, Hikaru and Stali are all up!

The grandmother nods thankfully to the two gentlemen who help her over the fence.
"Thank you dears. These old bones don't quite move around like they used to, that's a fact. Winter's really rough on 'em, even." Her eyes crinkle a bit playfully at the Mayor's change of heart. "Thank you, wouldn't do for me to get stuck in the mud."
While everyone else is probably going to go straight at the justifiably panicked piggy, Andrietta is going to take a measured approach, carefully watching it's path, letting the others take their cracks at it first while trying to see what the best route for it to escape is, and attempting to subtly encourage it in that direction before... swooping in for the grab (if no one else has managed it).
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Grapple(Untrained): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Andrietta will take her shot at the piggy after everyone else has a chance, and won't attempt to wrassle it away from someone else if they've got a better grip. If one were to use American football terms, she's being the 'strong safety'.
GM Hmm |
Andrietta takes a measured, non-threatening approach, trying to herd the pig in a specific direction but waiting for the others to act before completing her grapple attempt.
Round 1
Chak, Hikaru and Stali are up!
Stali One-Penny |
Knowledge: Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
That is odd! Why would anyone do that?
Stali moves towards the pig and attempts to grab it.

GM Hmm |
Stali dashes forward, but the pig lurches in the opposite direction, leaving him spattered in mud!
Round 1
Chak and Hikaru are up!

Chak enters the pen, but does not immediately set off chasing the pig.
"First, a haiku to a greased pig."
To chase a greased pig
how sweet would victory be?
Tasty like bacon.
Chak spends this time carefully observing the movements of the pig.
Move: Studied Target - pig
"Hold up a minute! I thought, believed and surmised this was a greased pig contest, not a drunk greased pig contest! This pig looks off, unwell and out of sorts!
Move: Keep up with pig
Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
K'Kei Hikaru |
Hikaru watches the pig for a moment, observing how it moves and which directions it tends to move in... then approaches it slowly, only pouncing at the end, when he is close.
cmb to grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
GM Hmm |
Chak produces a stirring haiku, and a number of villagers cheer this unexpected bit of artistry. Hikaru approaches slowly, trying to gage his options, but still winds up with mud in his face when he pounces and the squealing pig gets away.
Andrietta successfully grapples the pig. The pig attempts to get away...
Greasy Pig Wiggling Escape Artist Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
...and slips out of her hands!
Stali One-Penny |
Stali looks towards the pair of villagers who brought the pig as he announces "It is almost like the pig was poisoned!"
Sense motive, pig handlers: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Chak Yuen Chen |
With the pig having slipped free, Chack will resume the chase and try to stop it, hopefully before it gets hurt.
Grapple: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17
Andrietta Ebonfeather |
The grandmother laughs as the pig wiggles away. Or... did she *let* it get away?
Nah, it was the grease, sure enough.
"If it was meant to be easy, it wouldn't be worth the reward, would it, right? GET. THE. PIG!"
"Poisoned?"
Andrietta pulls up at Stali's comment and looks searchingly around, taking a glance behind her for hidden crossbow wielders, or other ne'er do-wells trying to take advantage of the wrestling.
Perception(looking for things out of place in the crowd): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Sarano Snowfeather |
Sarano will lift her feathered hands high, flicking her hands in magical gestures before blessing everyone in attendance, looking to the mayor, "Be blessed in Desna's name,"
A little late now but everyone is blessed
GM Hmm |
With the benefit of his study of the pig, the increased grit on the pig and Sarano's blessing, Chak grapples the greasy pig this round!
Meanwhile, the crowd looks confused and perturbed at Stali's comment. "Poisoned?! What the... Who'd do somethin' like that?" The pig handlers look shocked at the idea.
The whole crowd turns to stare as the pig suddenly starts snorting and frothing at the mouth. Its eyes turn red, its tiny tusks start to grow, and weird plant growths sprout off its body as it turns, snorts and snarls in Chak's grasp.
[See Slide 6 for a picture of the cute little piggie now...]
As this happens, there is a gasp from the crowd. Owen cries out, "Oh no, not again! Git out, that pig's gone bad!"
Andrietta Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Chak Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Hikaru Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Stali Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
All four of the pig wrestlers feel a slight wave of nausea wash over them at the sight of the transformed pig, but as experienced Pathfinders they all shake it off and turn to face the new squealing monstrosity in their midst!

With a sigh, Stali says "Well, I thought it was poison. Might be a drug?"
Someone has got some explaining to do...and I do not want any bacon from this pig!
Drawing a dagger as he moves, he gets into a flanking position with Andrietta. He then stabs at the pig.

I wasn't sure if this counted as the same creature for studied target so I didn't apply it. Add +1 to attack and damage if it does apply. Chak's AC without armor is 12.

Studied target no longer applies. It is no longer the terrified little piggy Chak studied. However, Sarano's Bless spell is still in effect, so I'm adding it in!
Chak, already having an excellent grip on the piggy, tears into it! He hits each time, but not all of his damage goes through. Still, the piggy is looking much worse for wear!
Chak's Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
The piggy tastes like tainted bacon, but Chak has had much worse. He swallows it down without an issue.
Hikaru, who had both a bless and a flank when he closes with the pig, hits! Unfortunately, none of his damage goes through.
Chak and everyone else on the team hears a cold voice in their heads that sounds high-pitched and squealy. Bite me, will you? You won't like it when I return the favor, bird. I think that it's time for me to eat crow.
Then with a ferocious high-pitched squeal, the piggy attacks Chak!
Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Chak's Fort Save (Again): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Chak may have been eating too much. He was starting to feel unwell.
GM Hmm |
Stali uses his cold iron dagger, striking a lethal blow where all the damage goes through, knocking the piggy out! Then Hikaru slices cleanly through the downed creature. Then Chak shreds the creature with one claw, and then another.
Not only is that a dead pig, there's barely anything left to bite...
Int Check, Chak (bite the pig anyway?): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Okay, then!
Chak bites down again and finds himself infested by growing plant tendrils that shoot out everywhere and entangle him. Chak, do you want to rip them out (with another fort save?) A heal check can aid his fort save here if anyone wants to give a go at helping him rip out plant tendrils.
Meanwhile the Mayor turns to Hikaru. "What on earth were you DOING, bringing a sword into a pig wrestling contest?!"
K'Kei Hikaru |
"I wasn't planning on using it against the pig... it is, well, like my arm... I never really considered leaving it behind or bringing it along, it just was there... when I needed it, as it turned out, so I have no shame in wearing it."
GM Hmm |
Diplomacy roll, sir?

Stali One-Penny |
Seeing the plant tendrils infest Chak, Stali quickly uses his cold iron dagger to scrape away the worst concentrations. It seemed to react to the cold iron, so I don't have to apply more than normal pressure!
He also makes sure that Sarano has room to work.
Untrained Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Does using the cold iron dagger give a circumstance bonus?

K'Kei Hikaru |
diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Although Hikaru's statement is quite reasonable, it comes off as slightly too haughty. The Mayor frowns. "No wonder the pig went berserk! Think of the stress you brought to it, waving that sword around!"

Gallako Tenkarlyion |
Blaming us for this? Strange
sense motive on mayor: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
"Please forgive Vralks outburst, he can get a little excited when he sees somebody insulting his friends. But blaming us because your pig turned into some sort of monster is hardly just. Surely you'd like to reconsider that?"
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
"And what, EXACTLY, was meant by "not again"? Has this happened before?"
Stali One-Penny |
Even if Gallako gets an answer to that question, I'll have to ask Owen about it in a less public setting.
Having finished making sure all the tendrils were destroyed, Stali gets up and faces the mayor. "We should really stop calling it a pig." he announces.
"Those tendrils may look like plants, but there was NOTHING natural about it. I'm familiar with various plants, animals, fungi, and even many fey creatures. This thing" gesturing towards the remains "is not any of those!"
Looking towards Gallako, he then asks "Any idea what it might be? Sorry there is so little of it left to look at, but I can tell you that cold iron had full effect on it." At this point, he wipes off his dagger and sheaths it. "I know that many fey are vulnerable to such weapons, but I believe there are other sorts of creatures that also are."
"Once you are done examining it, I would suggest we burn the area just to be certain there is no remaining taint."
Gallako Tenkarlyion |
If you allow (definitely in a rules grey area), now that we have some more quiet time, Gallako would like to both throw heightened awareness and guidance on himself and then try to again identify the pig monster.
know planes (if allowed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
GM Hmm |
I'll allow it, post fight, as you look over the various body parts. Or what Chak left of them. I will even allow Vralk to attempt to aid your roll, since he also has Knowledge Planes. Go ahead and look under the spoilers.
Everyone in the crowd, is startled by normally quiet little Sarano's outburst. However it shakes a number of people out of silence. Arthur speaks up. "S'nobody's fault. We all seen this afore. Sometimes pigs and other critters just go bad, and nothin' you can do 'bout it."
Others in the crowd nod. Viorec jumps over the fence into the muddy enclosure. "Good thing the bonfire's nice and hot. Small fires won't burn the parts. It has to be REALLY hot once one of these go bad."
Some villagers, including Alizna a very stooped old woman who is known far and wide as the town's main weaver, gather near the Mayor is support. Alizna speaks up, voice quavering as she smiles to Andrietta. "Our Mayor's young. Day's been stressful. Maybe we've all been a bit hasty to judge here?" She pats the Mayor's arm and gives him a pointed look.
Mayor Kriegler holds up a placating hand. "You're right. I might have been hasty. The stress of seeing something like that spring up in a little contest is just getting to me. I owe you all a little apology." He holds out a hand to Hikaru. "I'm sorry for snapping like that. Everyone, let's go to the Feast and treat these talented newcomers like the heroes that they are!"
There's a cheer as everyone gets ready for the Feast! As sundown approaches, the villagers light the bonfires lining the perimeter of the festival grounds, illuminating the area as the various preparations are drawn to the central tables, outspread quilts, and scattered benches. The feast itself begins without fanfare, as steaming-hot platters of the day's labors are distributed among the families. The group of Tengu are seated with Alizna, Arthur and Owen, and Harv, the farmer who trained Greediguts, at the Mayor's own table. As promised, Vralk and Greediguts sit right next to the mayor.
Alizna turns to Andrietta, showing off her handiwork -- the elegant woven tablecloth on the Mayor's table and the sturdy cloth that Arthur and Owen are wearing. "I'm a weaver, dear. I've clothed most of this town. What work do you do?"

The grandmother wasn't expecting that to happen to the pig.
OH GRANDMOTHER!That's just not RIGHT!.
The shock of whatever it was despite being a Pathfinder agent of some experience kind of rocked her, especially when Chak decides to KEEP EATING THE THING! He gets a gentle whap to the back of the head with her quarterstaff of the non-damaging sort.
The weaver-woman gets a bit of a nod as the situation calms down a bit.
Aid Diplomacy(Belated) to calm the waters: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
"Maybe we can help your town deal with this sort of thing, Mayor Kriegler, while we're in the area? After all, a little bit of cleaning up does wonders for anything. And no, this ain't related to the other issue what brings us out here, this is the kinda thing what neighbors and friends do for each other, and good guests, even."
He had such an issue with me bringing in my quarterstaff and only backed off when folks started raising a fuss. Did he know something like this was going to happen? Better warn the kids when we get a quiet moment.
At the feast, Andrietta is cleaned up and the armor a bit brighter and shinier as she goes through the effort to do it right. She's definitely not adverse to sitting next to the weaver-woman, and her eyes crinkle and twinkle a bit as Alizna shows off her handiwork.
"I'll be, dear. That's finer embroidery than half the things I've seen in Magnimar, even. How long did it take you to do that? Labor of love right there, for sure!"
The paladin's keen eye goes over the outfits with a bit of a knowing nod.
"Not saying I know a person, but there might be folks what're looking for durable clothes like that in the city. If you don't mind, I could let them know about your work?"
"As far as me, though? Heh. Bein' a grandparent means you get to do a lot of small things over the years, don't you reckon? Hard work and good people is what keeps this world moving along, an' avoidin' puttin' on too much of the airs, even. Been too busy running around keepin' the flock in one piece t' actually consider settling down and doin' money-making, even."
That's sensible and reasonable, given that folks said that things can 'go bad'.
She holds off, however, on looking at the Mayor because to do that would stir the community into an uproar again, hoping to get a few moments later in private to do so.
Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
GM Hmm |
Andrietta, there's a Spell Manifestation off spell-like abilities like Detect Evil. Do you wish to still detect evil on the food?

Yes. It'll be in that 'moment' where some folks would say 'Grace' or whatnot, and she'll be focused on the food and the area immediately around it, not on any person. Here's a manifestation description at no additional charge!
The paladin will concentrate and intone something reverently in a foreign language... that most of the party should understand. She makes a bit of a production of it, placing her right hand in front of her, palm facing leftwards, fingers upward and thumb pointing to herself.
Stali One-Penny |
Stali takes a seat for the feast near Arthur and Owen. While others are busy with their own conversations, he softly asks Owen "What did you mean by not again? Has something like this happened often?"
