I say, Professor Radsworth, are you having a bit of trouble deciding what class to advance for your 15th character level and 6th mythic tier? Or did you forget, sir? I daresay you blokes are gaining in power rather rapidly, but I suppose that's for the best, what with things going so poorly and at such a pace for the Earth and mankind....

By the way I have been paying attention this entire time, would everyone say that we have slowed down the appropriate amount of time?
Also.. Remy for Mayor... never.. ever..
I have noticed that.. when I reply there is more forward movement so I decided that I would respond less and let some of the story auto develop via MJ... and THEN once people caught their breath BLITZKRIEG it
Rynjin |
I'm ready to move forward a bit. I was hoping somebody would play off of my "Should we take our chances now, or try to get stronger and make it a sure thing?" bit for a while (i.e. in character "What's our gameplan?") but nobody nibbled.

I too have been hovering around without commenting. I was waiting to see what played out with thr Kaiju and Cthulhu. Plus I can't teleport, so I assumed someone would have dragged the fierce ones into something.
Remy would be the worst mayor ever. Which is why I want to see it happen...
"Zis proposal is no good for Jacques Remy! 'E demands a statue in 'is 'onour, not some silly water purification system!"

Yes, the unwritten assumption is that Grimm has been lounging around the base catering to Kate's pregnancy needs, and would stay at 6th level.... But obviously, we can't have a 6th lvl no mythic running around with the FOs, so we have to assume that Grimm has been doing the same kind of amazing deeds that the FOs have been doing, but with other personnel from the base--Jewels, Lakra, Prue, et al....
Or, if he plays a completely different character, we can assume that character has been performing heroic deeds and overcoming mythic trials elsewhere on Earth up to this point....
Derrik Stonesmith |
The new character would sadly make the most sense.. because canonically Grim hasnt been adventuring.. and I cant see him stopping because taking char of responsibilities seems more in his char.
Michael Johnson 66 |
What do you really want to play, VonKlinen?
Grimm or a new character?
It does kind of make sense that Grimm would be vested in hanging around Pandora's Box with Kate as a 6th level character, which would necessitate your creating an entirely new character who has been doing a lot of adventuring in the post-Apocthulhu world and has attained 15th level and 6 mythic tiers....
That said, if you are really attached to Grimm and want to keep playing him, I will make it work one way or another....
Michael Johnson 66 |
We could have Professor Dirge hypnotize Grimm, guide him to his past life regressions as medieval alchemist Nicolas Flamel, and Victorian alchemist Dr Jekyll, and infuse him with a drug while he is hypnotized that allows him to recall and use his past lives and experiences, effectively making Grimm a 15th level/ 6th mythic tier badass when he wakes up....
Rynjin |
To be clear, are we making up our own past lives here or are you cooking up something fun for each of us we don't know about yet?
I'm fine either way, but it'd be cool to see what you come up with besides Beowulf and Vlad for Sieg, and really anything for Marcus...I've been unable to think of anything really good for him at all (besides maybe Freud).

Alright, so, putting out an open call to a few games I'm in for a game I'm running (have been running for a bit now). One of the players is working on a project and doesn't have a ton of free time right now, so we're a bit stalled ATM. And they've been down a man for a while so I figure it's a good time to introduce a couple of new players.
So, short details, it's basically a "guided sandbox" Thieves' Guild type campaign. It takes place in essentially unaltered Golarion, except the game itself is in a completely made up city (Myrial, city-state TECHNICALLY ruled by Cheliax but in reality left pretty much unchecked).
Generally how it goes is I provide a number of jobs to choose from and you can pick all, some, or none of them (no job is mandatory). In addition, you pretty much have free reign over what you want to do in the city. Want to steal from a rich merchant? You're welcome to try. Take down that rival party that's been a pain in your ass? Go for it (though you'll have to wait until another one is ballsy enough to try right now...).
Current "story arc" is that after the party's more recent exploits, a mercenary peacekeeping company (the Obsidian Guard) is cracking down, hard.
Obviously, the campaign's subject matter (for those familiar with the Elder Scrolls series, particularly oblivion and Skyrim, the initial concept was a combo of the Thieves Guild from Skyrim, and the Dark Brotherhood from both) implies that Good aligned characters will probably not fit well. Neutral is fine, and so is Evil, though the current party make-up somewhat discourages Chaotic Evil characters (the group is mostly Neutral with Evil tendencies rather than straight up evil, but they ARE focused on profit), but a well written one could fit just fine.
A couple of caveats that may or may not turn people off:
1.) I am not an especially experienced DM. I've run a few games, but all have been Adventure Paths besides this one. I'm pretty much flying by the seat of my pants right now, making things up as I go along. This is both good and bad. It lets me react to what you're doing on the fly, but it also makes it somewhat hard to keep track of which potential plot threads people have picked up and which have been left un-nibbled. If I were more experienced this would be less of an issue, but I'm not. So far hasn't hampered anything too badly, I just need a nudge from the players every once in a while to remind me of something I mentioned a while back that they want to pick up, but it's a consideration.
2.) This game was partially born as a testing ground for "Freeform Class Selection". I basically broke down every class ability in the game into a point buy (barring Prestige Classes, and with more of a guideline for archetypes since there's so many), including BaB, Saves, Skills Per Level, and Proficiencies. You would be using this system, so it would require you to basically forget a lot of things you know about charop in order to use it. It has some flaws, it doesn't work perfectly, but most people who've fiddled with it has said they like how it works. Allows for a lot of flexibility, sometimes in a broken sense, but I'm posting in these particular games because I trust people to keep it reasonable and at least ask before jumping on anything majorly broken.
All that said, if you want to check it out, the game is here.
Character creation guidelines are as follows:
-25 Point buy
-Character level 5th
-Wealth by level for level 5*
-Utilizes Freeform Class Selection
*Pertinent houserule to the above, the Big 4 items (Cloaks of Resistance, Stat Boosting belts/headbands, Rings or Protection, and Amulets of Natural Armor are NOT ALLOWED.
n exchange, players will receive +2 to any stat of their choice, with a further +1 to any two DIFFERENT stats of their choice every 4 levels. They will also receive a +2 untyped bonus to AC at 1st level, +1 every 3rd level thereafter, and +2 at 20th (culminating in a total of +10 AC), and a +1 bonus to saves at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter (culminating in a +5 bonus to saves at 20th level).
Reasoning: These items/bonuses are expected by the game, but usually lead to bland/boring "loadouts" for characters. I want to encouraging picking items because they're INTERESTING and give people new OPTIONS, not just on the merit that if you don't have X, Y, and Z, you're likely to get stomped.
Think I've rambled on long enough. PM me or post here if you're interested.

Ruladin! You'll have to look at it. It looks unbalanced to me. It is good to be back. I wasn't sure how to make Grimm catch up with the others. As always, MJ had a really good idea. I wanted to stick with him, because I can probably role play him the best. My other concept was a sentient ooze spawned of Cthulhu, but disenfranchised and rebellious. Hopefully Grimm works out. Apologies for my absence. It was long, but necessary.

Of course, it's one thing to play a PC up from 1st level to 15th, getting a feel for his/her capabilities at each level along the way, and another thing to have to stat up a 15th level PC and start playing him/her with no prior experience running said character at mid-levels.... I know it'll probably be a bit more of a challenge for Grimm to start playing a high level mythic PC with no warm-up.... But we'll help ya out if u have questions or want suggestions, etc....
Derrik Stonesmith |
Heck, I believe as he reads through the logs, even though Derrik has gone from 1-15, that most people here would call him the most OP...He didnt grow through leaps and bounds, he steadily became more and more scary and with little finniking or doing anything too special.. he Just has both Offensive and Defensive capabilities that make him a force to be reckoned with. And that was WITHOUT picking specific Items, his choices are pretty non-standard. His kit is just very strong and fits his overall theme.
But yes we will help him if he needs any, Higher level play is no joke and bad things can happen on both sides with little mercy.

My next campaign idea:
Same world--magic/mythic Earth--but circa 1400....
An ancient red dragon like old Morbenlok from the Arena of Death flies from Mercury to Earth, burns the countryside just enough to scare but not destroy the peasantry and nobility alike, and establishes a lair in Mt Vesuvius....
From whence he sends out demands for tribute from the kings of Europe in the form of gold and maidens in exchange for not melting everything....
Michael Johnson 66 |
The PCs would begin as opportunistic 1st level adventurerers in the city of Nuremberg, ruled under the name of King Rupert of the Holy Roman Empire....
Early adventures would involve clearing gremlins out of Cathedrals, killing goblins in the foothills of the Alps, etc....
Mid-level stuff could involve dungeon crawls in the Catacombs under Paris and Rome, rooting out devil cults embedded therein....
High end fights against demons and devils in and around the labrynthine caverns under Brocken Peak in the Harz Mountains....
And when the PCs are tough enough, a final showdown in Mt Vesuvius against the ancient red dragon....

Definitely getting ahead of things, but it could apply to players in this campaign as well since both are set on Earth. How would you imagine handing the Inner Sea Gods prestige classes as they are god specific? Could we whip up new boons, or maybe just reflavor existing god's boons to fit a deity of earth mythology?
