By the time the minute is over her wolf has vanished again.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Gray Son finds that the wound inflicted by the poisoned dagger is superficial after all, and the Pathfinders exit the burning house through the secret tunnel. After descending the winding stone staircase, the tunnel opens into a rough passage about fifteen feet wide with a ropy stone floor that was likely once formed by lava flow. Torches burn fitfully in sconces that line the walls, staggered every thirty feet or so. There are no side passages and after following the lava tube as it snakes its way through a good part of the island, the group winds up in a sand-floored cave of dark igneous rock. Natural stone columns support a ceiling that rises fifteen feet above, and the naturally carved walls bulge outward in places, creating irregular small alcoves. Another passage exits the cavern a short distance ahead, sloping upward. The smell of seawater, a hint of a fresh breeze and natural light glimpsed beyond suggests that the tunnel leads to a cave that opens out into the sea.

More torches, these burning more strongly than those in the passage behind them, are set into stands that jut from the rough stone stairs that lead down into the natural cave. A human Tien stands over the body of Iko Tsueno, and the Pathfinders see Amara and her two servants crumpled on the floor nearby. The armored man is enormous, roughly the size of an ogre, and is gloating over the fallen samurai with an exotic sword clutched in hand. As the Pathfinders enter the cave, he smiles menacingly and raises his sword to do battle. Though there are several other soldiers of the Golden League present in the cave, all but one lay dead or dying on the cavern floor. The survivor can be seen lurking near one of the stone pillars, a small object clutched in one hand. Though despite his efforts to hide, everyone easily spots him.

Red moves through the smoke into the cavern, aiming his bow at the armored samurai and sends an arrow streaking toward him, the shaft sinking into the warrior’s arm.

The samurai steps forward, his words booming forth as he shouts in anger. ”Your foolish attempt to interfere with my day of triumph will see you all dead by my blade!” The giant soldier swings the enormous sword at Red, and though the monk is unable to avoid the blow, at the very least he is able to keep his head attached to his body as he raises one arm to partially deflect the blade, which cuts a nasty wound along his left side.

Lovissa takes a step back and casts a hand out at the samurai's armour and sword. A magical frost begins to creep over his gear. (Casting chill metal on him. His weapons and armour get uncomfortably cold unless he passes a DC 15 Will save to negate the spell).

Then she grips her sword, ready to wade into battle with the samurai. "I am Lovissa of the line of Halenbane! Remember it! For mine will be the last name you hear!"

Chill Metal Rules:
Unattended, non-magical metal gets no saving throw. Magical metal is allowed a saving throw against the spell. An item in a creature’s possession (not an “unattended”) uses the creature’s saving throw bonus unless its own is higher. (Will DC 15 negates).

A creature takes cold damage if its equipment is chilled. It takes full damage if its armor, shield, or weapon is affected. The creature takes minimum damage (1 point or 2 points; see the table) if it’s not wearing or wielding such an item. On the first round of the spell, the metal becomes chilly and uncomfortable to touch but deals no damage. The same effect also occurs on the last round of the spell’s duration. During the second (and also the next-to-last) round, icy coldness causes pain and damage. In the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, the metal is freezing cold, and causes more damage, as shown on the table below. Any heat intense enough to damage the creature negates cold damage from the spell (and vice versa) on a point-for-point basis.

Round 1: Cool, None; Round 2: Cold, 1d4 cold damage; Round 3-5: Freezing, 2d4 cold damage; Round 6: cold, 1d4 cold damage; Round 7: Cool, No damage.

Fog Cloud

Remember folks, those casting spells (or using other abilities) that require sight to target cannot see the samurai if you are standing further than 5' away from the edge. So Lovissa and Arin need to move forward 10' and 15' respectively in order to see the target of your spell. That puts you well within his reach. Styfis, you need to see the square into which you are placing your spiritual warrior, so you can move forward 5' and put the spiritual ally in the square in front of you, if you'd like, but it's a spell-like ability and would draw an AoO. You could also just put the warrior in front of your square you are standing in, but it won't move until next round, if I'm reading the spell correctly.

Styfis summons a spirit warrior, but the heavy smoke doesn't allow him to send him any farther into the room. Lovissa moves up to attack, but she fails to connect as the thick smoke confounds her senses. Arin moves forward to cast his spell, and the samurai swings at the gnome as he is forced to lower his defenses while casting. The blow is a powerful one, and though badly wounded, at least Arin wasn't decapitated by the samurai's sword as he ducks just in time to avoid that grisly fate. Still, he loses the spell he'd intended to cast.

Gray nimbly dives past the samurai into the cavern, but his attack clangs harmlessly off his opponent's heavy armor. With his liege standing so close to the cavern entrance, the Tien soldier draws a dagger instead of another bomb and moves in behind Red, stabbing at the archer and inflicting only a minor scratch.

Player's Map - Slide #1

Southern Red is up! The rest of you can post as well, but keep in mind the samurai acts before anyone other than Red. Arin, in order to see the target you had to move up to the edge of the Fog Cloud, as in your previous spot you could only see into that last 5' square of smoke and nothing beyond (per the spell description.) Even in the spot you moved your token into, you were still within reach and would have suffered an AoO - and I didn't see any mention of casting defensively. Lovissa avoided an AoO because she moved from a square with total concealment into a square with normal concealment, so the samurai couldn't take his AoO against her.

Arin made a guarded step, so shouldn't be an AoO there. Unless I'm missing something else I think the action I pre-posted above can apply.

The spirit warrior goes behind the samourai and tries to hit this one having the flank with Lovissa. The samourai can do an AoO but he can't touch him anyway.

Spirit warrior: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 2 = 14

Then the archer casts a burning hands, having the long way in front of him and like this none of his teammates in the range.

Burning hands: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 1, 3) = 12 DC 16 for half

If you consider that it's impossible to cast a burning hands, I cast a shield.

Styfis, I can easily see a path for a 15' cone without harming your allies, so no problems there. Arin, you look good as well, for though you are technically within the bad guy's reach, the Fog Cloud works against your enemies this time, giving you total concealment and so no AoO is possible as you cast your spell. Looks like I just need Lovissa and Gray Son to post their actions.

Lovissa takes a careful five foot step out of the irritating cloud and lunges at the samurai with her sword! Using 1 divination focus and a swift action to use 'sudden insight' and gain and extra +2 on her attack roll.

Well, it would have also been prevented due to 5' *guarded* step (not regular movement). An attack was possible apart from the fog, but not AoO.

Apologies Arin, what is a 'guarded' step? I'm familiar with that in Starfinder (since that game doesn't have the 5' step), but I'm not familiar with the Pathfinder version. My earlier comment about drawing an AoO had nothing to do with your movement, as a realize that a 5' step does not draw an AoO. But casting a spell while within reach of the samurai (you have determined he has a 10' reach, and you are currently standing in a square within his reach) would draw an AoO, unless you cast defensively. Or am I missing something? Just want to make sure, as it's moot at the moment, but in case it becomes relevant later I want to make sure I understand what you're saying.

"Guarded" is just another name for that step, but I incorrectly presumed that's what you were referring to for the AoO. What you said before makes sense now.

Styfis sends the spectral warrior forward to engage the hulking samurai, but the ghost blade fails to connect. The elf calls upon his magic and sends a sheet of flame against the foe as Lovissa steps forward and gets in a good strike as well. Arin backs away from the combat, further into the smoke, and pauses to heal himself when he can no longer see the enemy - hoping that the reverse is true as well. Gray Son strikes as well, delivering a nasty blow as the samurai's attention is turned.

Combat Details:

Samurai’s Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 vs DC 16 = Success! (6 fire damage)

Soldier's Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 vs Red's AC (Flanking) = Hit!

Red takes a step and then fires another two arrows at point blank range, using his training to avoid lowering his defenses as he does so. The first arrow flies astray, but the second pierces the protective spell surrounding the samurai and lodges into his neck! The warrior's eyes bulge and he drops his sword, grabbing at the arrow shaft in vain as he collapses to the ground, unmoving.

The remaining soldier shouts in consternation then staggers away and hurls another bomb at Red, which splashes onto Lovissa and himself as well, though he is only singed as he nimbly twists to avoid the worst of it.

Combat Details:

Red's Miss Chance (01-20): 1d100 ⇒ 25 = Hit!

Soldier's Bomb Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 vs Red's Touch AC = Hit!
Bomb Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6 fire vs Red, + 4 'splash' damage to Lovissa and Soldier. Please roll Reflex saves for half-damage and for Red to avoid Catching Fire for 1d6 additional damage next round.
Soldier's Reflex Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 = Success!

The archer advance suddenly and fires an electric ray energy against the soldier. I use i point of mental focus

Ray energy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Damage (fire): 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) + 2 = 12

Then he moves the spirit warrior and this one tries to hit the soldier.

Spirit warrior: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Well you have to finish him.

Hearing the booming thud, presumably of a particular large body, Arin runs out of the fog cloud to get his bearings. Seeing the position of the remaining soldier, he runs in the opposite direction putting his teammates in between them.
