Hiko

Hiko attacks the assassin next to her again this time she aims his solar-plexis.
Stunning blow attempt.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
| GM.Silbeg |
Hiko misses with her stunning blow, while Balon heals his faction lead and Hyrgan tries to cut her way out of the devilfish.
The flying woman casts another spell. A burst of glitter catches Hiko, Eolowyn, Guaril, and the remaining assassin.
Will: Eolowyn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Will: Hiko: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Will: Guaril: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Will: Assassin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Eolowyn and the Guaril are blinded, and all four are all "glittery" (can be seen while invisible, severe penalty on stealth)
A cloud of golden particles covers everyone and everything in the area, causing creatures to become blinded and visibly outlining invisible things for the duration of the spell. All within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades. Each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect.
Any creature covered by the dust takes a –40 penalty on Stealth checks.
Even though he is blinded, Guaril still attacks the assassin.
Guaril dagger: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 14 + 2 = 29 miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Guaril dagger: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 = 31 miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 89 Guaril crit confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29 critical damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
The assassin falls, bleeding to death.
The Devilfish holding Hyrgan attempts to maintain the grapple.
grapple: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 5 = 37 tentacles damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5, 3) + 4 = 18 bite: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 2 = 15
It maintains the grapple. Hyrgan falls unconscious, and the devilfish drops him.
The other devilfish attacks whiskers.
tentacles: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 tentacles damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) + 4 = 15
grab: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30 bite: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 - 2 = 12
The "cat" is grabbed by the tentacles, and squeezed. The creature tries to bite him, but fails.

Ignoring Concealment: Concealment isn't always effective. An area of dim lighting or darkness doesn't provide any concealment against an opponent with darkvision. Characters with low-light vision can see clearly for a greater distance than other characters with the same light source. Although invisibility provides total concealment, sighted opponents may still make Perception checks to notice the location of an invisible character. An invisible character gains a +20 bonus on Stealth checks if moving, or a +40 bonus on Stealth checks when not moving (even though opponents can't see you, they might be able to figure out where you are from other visual or auditory clues).
I typically rule that this works much like an invisible character. You can may an active perception check, taking a round.

After four rounds, Balon awakens. "I... well, it seems that we did not ALL die. That's very good... I am not ready to make my way to the Pallid Princess's arms quite yet. However, our leader is deceased. We should definitely return his body to the lodge to get him raised."

"Yes, we must take care of Gauril. He was my faction leader at one time, and I feel I owe him that much at the least. "
Hiko
|
"This seems like a good idea... Do we have any idea why he was here in the first place? It seems like an odd place to be... One last question though, should we stow the rowboat and sail this boat back into town or do we leave the large boat and take the rowboat instead?"
With this question left for everyone to ponder, Hiko starts to clean up some of the blood and spilled buckets of chum. Even if they were to leave to boat it would be polite to leave it clean...

The team cleans up, and solemnly makes their way back to Aaqir al'Hakam.
The faction leader shakes his head when he sees them dragging the corpse of the Sczarni leader back.
"Every investment is a gamble, and it looks like 'Uncle Guaril's' didn't pay off the dividends that he expected. He wanted to let his enemies see him in a moment of weakness, allow them to strike and taste blood, then lure them toward a trap while they think they’re winning. It appears that he let them taste too much blood on this night. It was good that his heavily armed friends, " al'Hakam nods to you five, " were there in time to avenge his death, and bring his body back to me."
"Speaking of deals and mutual backscratching, you should know that Guaril and I have nearly finished one to help us perform the other. he got a little too ambitious in Varisia and made a few enemies we didn't intend to unleash, and that’s made staying in business as we are… less than wise. Fortunately, I was looking for talent like his, and he was not really in a position to say no.
"That’s not to say we are breaking up the family business—hardly the case. This is just a mutually beneficial marriage of two honest enterprises in which everyone gets a juicy cut—so long as we play nice with our proverbial in-laws. Be prepared to be even more upstanding than usual, but be ready to do things the old fashioned way. This is the start of something big."
Unfortunately Guaril's death means that The Exchange did not succeed at its secondary condition, so Balon does not get the 2nd PP

The adventure concludes on the final day of festivities, when the First Lady of Laws announces Grint Basatrel as the new member of the Grand Council. After the new councilor takes the stage to thank Diobel and the High Council for their trust, the crowd gradually disperses to fit in a bit more city-funded celebration. Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng, ever looking the part of a blind beggar, sidles up alongside the PCs to chat.
“And so ends an election and begins a political career. I’m pleased that the High Council chose Grint, as he’s amenable to working with the Society. It also sounds as though he’s not the only one with friends in high places; I hear several of our close allies owe you their thanks, and they’ve already begun paying off that debt with a fewer presents delivered to the Grand Lodge with your names on them. Well done. The Society’s strength is not measured by the enemies it defeats but by the friends it keeps.”
With a concealed wave goodbye, Dreng stumbles off into the crowd once more, his alms bowl held high as he listens for more rumors of note.

Eolowyn sighs heavily "I just hope that the Society will now finally send me into the wilds again. These city assignments are not what pleases me. Although it pleased me to work with you. May Desna light your paths and that we may meet again"
Thanks a lot for running this one GM, hard earned victories are the best!

"I am sorry that I could not keep Master Karela alive, but I take heart in knowing that the society has the resources to bring him back to the realm of the living."
Well done, Silbeg, it was a lot of fun!
