Hiko attacks the assassin next to her again this time she aims his solar-plexis.

Stunning blow attempt.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

Hiko misses with her stunning blow, while Balon heals his faction lead and Hyrgan tries to cut her way out of the devilfish.

The flying woman casts another spell. A burst of glitter catches Hiko, Eolowyn, Guaril, and the remaining assassin.

Will: Eolowyn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Will: Hiko: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Will: Guaril: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Will: Assassin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Eolowyn and the Guaril are blinded, and all four are all "glittery" (can be seen while invisible, severe penalty on stealth)

Glitterdust:

Glitterdust from PRD wrote:

A cloud of golden particles covers everyone and everything in the area, causing creatures to become blinded and visibly outlining invisible things for the duration of the spell. All within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades. Each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect.

Any creature covered by the dust takes a –40 penalty on Stealth checks.

Even though he is blinded, Guaril still attacks the assassin.

The assassin falls, bleeding to death.

The Devilfish holding Hyrgan attempts to maintain the grapple.

It maintains the grapple. Hyrgan falls unconscious, and the devilfish drops him.

The other devilfish attacks whiskers.
tentacles: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 tentacles damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) + 4 = 15

The "cat" is grabbed by the tentacles, and squeezed. The creature tries to bite him, but fails.

Concealment rules

Ignoring Concealment (from PRD) wrote:

Ignoring Concealment: Concealment isn't always effective. An area of dim lighting or darkness doesn't provide any concealment against an opponent with darkvision. Characters with low-light vision can see clearly for a greater distance than other characters with the same light source. Although invisibility provides total concealment, sighted opponents may still make Perception checks to notice the location of an invisible character. An invisible character gains a +20 bonus on Stealth checks if moving, or a +40 bonus on Stealth checks when not moving (even though opponents can't see you, they might be able to figure out where you are from other visual or auditory clues).

I typically rule that this works much like an invisible character. You can may an active perception check, taking a round.

I figured eagles were good with flying foes and water foes. I thought I had only rolled one, but must have lost it in the post.

The eagle will fly over to the other squid to attack (probably dying in an AOO). If it does, Wembly will summon another flight of eagles.

"Hygryn - can you get to Balon? Be careful. We are coming to help"

Hiko, I don't think rebuke death actually affects Balon, unfortunately, because he's treated as an undead creature for effects based on positive energy. But, this doesn't specifically say it uses positive energy. I think it might have to be a GM call. Silbeg, any thoughts?

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

I have to agree. The text says "living creature" on the spell-like ability, which does provoke. I will let Hiko change her action, since she will know that. Also, Hiko, are you expecting to tumble to get to him? The devilfish have shown themselves to have very good reach.

Wembly, if the birds are moving, they can only attack once. If you use your SLA again, you'd get two new birds, that can attack each 3 times. Which did you do?

GM Fiat to keep this moving. Modifying Hiko's action because it doesn't work, and she would know this by now.

Hiko starts casting Infernal Healing to give to the Dhampir cleric.

Just checking, but is this the last combat of the scenario? I would like to use Balon this weekend at a convention if we can finish up here. I just got a custom mini in the mail for him that I am itching to use. The one on the right, if you can see it

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

We are just about done, yes. I will try and get the chronicles out as soon as we are done.

Also, I misread that you hadn't added the flank bonus in for the eagles, Wembly, so they got two more hits, for 10 damage. This doesn't finish the beast, yet, but...

Eagle 1 claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Eagle 1 claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 24 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Eagle 1 bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 = 17 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Goes unconscious, eagle 2 continues to attack
Eagle 2 claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Eagle 2 claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 = 11 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Eagle 2 bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Eagle 1 hover: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Eagle 2 hover: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

The eagles manage to finish off the second devilfish. Hiko then touches Balon with her Infernal Healing (saving him).

Checking out the boat, you notice several buckets laying around, containing the remnants of chum. It looks like Uncle Guaril was trying to attract sharks (or something), and got something worse, to his demise.

What do you do now?

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

In the discussion thread, please give me your name, PFS#, faction, and day job roll, please. I will be making the boon rolls there as well. I will report the game, and send chronicles, as soon as I have this information on everyone! We'll be wrapping this up pretty soon.

After looking around the ship a little more, (Taking 10 for a 20) Hyrgan says "Let's get Guaril loaded up into one of the rowboats and take him back to see if he can be raised from the dead."

Male Human (Minnesotan) GM 5 Gallows of Madness |Midnight Marauder

Nothing of any particular interest is on the ship. There is some gear, including some potions of CMW, but you are just finishing up. Balon can heal himself up, and others can heal by means of the potions, etc. No more charges needed.

When the group decides on their plan, we'll move on.

"This seems like a good idea... Do we have any idea why he was here in the first place? It seems like an odd place to be... One last question though, should we stow the rowboat and sail this boat back into town or do we leave the large boat and take the rowboat instead?"

With this question left for everyone to ponder, Hiko starts to clean up some of the blood and spilled buckets of chum. Even if they were to leave to boat it would be polite to leave it clean...

The team cleans up, and solemnly makes their way back to Aaqir al'Hakam.

The faction leader shakes his head when he sees them dragging the corpse of the Sczarni leader back.

"Every investment is a gamble, and it looks like 'Uncle Guaril's' didn't pay off the dividends that he expected. He wanted to let his enemies see him in a moment of weakness, allow them to strike and taste blood, then lure them toward a trap while they think they’re winning. It appears that he let them taste too much blood on this night. It was good that his heavily armed friends, " al'Hakam nods to you five, " were there in time to avenge his death, and bring his body back to me."

"Speaking of deals and mutual backscratching, you should know that Guaril and I have nearly finished one to help us perform the other. he got a little too ambitious in Varisia and made a few enemies we didn't intend to unleash, and that’s made staying in business as we are… less than wise. Fortunately, I was looking for talent like his, and he was not really in a position to say no.

"That’s not to say we are breaking up the family business—hardly the case. This is just a mutually beneficial marriage of two honest enterprises in which everyone gets a juicy cut—so long as we play nice with our proverbial in-laws. Be prepared to be even more upstanding than usual, but be ready to do things the old fashioned way. This is the start of something big."

Unfortunately Guaril's death means that The Exchange did not succeed at its secondary condition, so Balon does not get the 2nd PP

The adventure concludes on the final day of festivities, when the First Lady of Laws announces Grint Basatrel as the new member of the Grand Council. After the new councilor takes the stage to thank Diobel and the High Council for their trust, the crowd gradually disperses to fit in a bit more city-funded celebration. Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng, ever looking the part of a blind beggar, sidles up alongside the PCs to chat.

“And so ends an election and begins a political career. I’m pleased that the High Council chose Grint, as he’s amenable to working with the Society. It also sounds as though he’s not the only one with friends in high places; I hear several of our close allies owe you their thanks, and they’ve already begun paying off that debt with a fewer presents delivered to the Grand Lodge with your names on them. Well done. The Society’s strength is not measured by the enemies it defeats but by the friends it keeps.”

With a concealed wave goodbye, Dreng stumbles off into the crowd once more, his alms bowl held high as he listens for more rumors of note.
